sweet, insecure, covers up his embarrassment with fake anger, youngest baby sibling, heir to the sect, tries his hardest and is truly powerful and smart but doesnt look like it next to his beloved shixiong who is a genius and can do anything with barely any effort

desperate for his fathers approval, is aggressively mothered, pretends his shixiong is embarrassing and he wants nothing to do with him but is constantly letting himself get dragged into shenanigans

loses his entire sect and both his parents in one night, sacrifices himself in a potentially SI way to save his shixiong, becomes chronically disabled (for a cultivator), loses said brother he sacrificed himself for. gets plunged into a war as a teenager while trying to build up his sect from essentially nothing using his dead mother's weapon of choice.

goes through the sunshot campaign, wwx's demonic cultivation and defection, all while building up his sect again. loses yanli to the jin, loses wwx to the dafan wen. loses them both permanently. has no family remaining in the world, alone and vulnerable, except for infant jin ling.

3zun have essentially tied 3 of the 4 great sects together, leaving ymj out. vulnerable. so jiang cheng channels his mother and protects them by cultivating - successfully! - the reputation of the feared sandu shengshou who nobody wants to cross. forces himself to become angry and bitter to hide any remaining vulnerabilities, fragility, emotion.

threatens to break jin ling's legs but jin ling knows he is loved and is never scared of being physically harmed. raises the ymj out of the ashes to the point they can afford to lose 400 spirit nets without even worrying about it

jiang cheng is so broken and fragile and when he needs support, when he has lost everything and everyone, he has nothing. so he is forced to put himself back together, to harden his edges, to ensure that nobody will ever hurt him again. he is untouchable. he is respected. he is feared. he is powerful.

and despite all this, he still kept chenqing in pristine condition for over 10 years. he still trusts in wwx to do the right thing despite all the wrongs he has done. he cries, he rages, he threatens.

but in the end, jiang wanyin is the only one to come out of guanyin temple better than they went in. he wins. and he does it all by his fucking self.

even if all he wants now is jin ling to be safe and for wei wuxian to come home.

I love thinking about how a Shen Yuan reveal would go from Luo Binghe's perspective, maybe even especially in cases where Binghe doesn't actually get to see Shen Yuan's world or understand it very well.

Imagine finding out that your husband is some kind of interdimensional alien spirit/angel who saw your fate and got so upset about it that he died. Then he came to your world, even though he didn't know that was possible, but since it was he immediately set about making your life less shitty and trying to change your fate. Except he couldn't change all of your fate because some kind of godlike being, the same one that brought him here, didn't want to let him. He's haunted by the fact that he couldn't figure out better ways to help you. He never expected any of his regard to be reciprocated, either, in fact he assumed you'd hate him. You never had to convince him to love you or respect you. He has always loved and respected you. There's basically nothing you can do to lose that love and respect either, because the first version of you that he even knew about was your edgelord comphet idiot mirror universe counterpart.

The fluffy parts of this reveal are obviously good, but I also think Luo Binghe deserves to know just how fully terrible his husband's judgment is. Also that Shizun has been dying for him since before they even met.

I think it'd be fun how often that would probably keep him awake at night, quietly trying not to have a crisis over the fact that his husband has made an honest to god habit of dying for him.

Shockingly I never thought too in depth about Moshang/Bingqiu kids, I love the idea that they'd have some and I adore fics with them.

I think both couples would be good parents but definitely struggling in the beginning like REALLY STRUGGLE I can only imagine Qingqiu freaking out over a baby, yes he helps the disciples but a WHOLE BABY?! He would be screaming. Shang Qinghua would also be freaking out, they're both trying there hardest as new parents.

If I ever did a full au I think I'd want Moshang with three kids and Bingqiu with two, but since they're all immortal, then they'd probably have a LOT more 😭

can't stop thinking about how feng xin did not at all have the knowledge the reader did that xie lian only pushed him away in book 4 due to abandonment fears. from fx's perspective, their friendship was already deteriorating in bk 4, then xl finally told him to stop following and slammed the door in his face. he must have really thought xl wanted him to leave, wanted him gone. he didn't know xl actually wanted him to stay. he must have thought his best friend and prince, the person who fx spent so many years orbiting around like xl was his whole world, didn't want him around anymore.

(and ofc it's so much worse in the revised version with the line "i don't need you anymore" but i don't want to think about that rn)

he tried so hard to care for both jian lan and xie lian, loved both of them so much, but in the end both of them pushed him away & assumed he wouldn't stay, when he would have...

… we know where Xie Lian came from. We know where Mu Qing came from. We even know a bit about where Hong’er came from. The only person from the Xianle quarter whose backstory we have NO IDEA about is Feng Xin.

Unlike Mu Qing, we never hear about him having a family. We never hear about him wanting to visit family, or worrying about family when it comes to the war and the plague. Which makes me believe that either his family is inextricably tied to the palace and the royal family (generations of guards, perhaps) and he lost them all in the fall of Xianle… or by the time we meet him he doesn’t have any family at all.

But it makes it very clear that Xie Lian and Mu Qing are all he has, once Xianle falls, and even before it. He has Xie Lian and the king and queen and Mu Qing and this is all he has left. All he has to hold on to.

And then Xie Lian orders him to leave.

I see so much bingqiu fanart with sqq seeming to barely tolerate lbh I fear new fans will get the wrong idea. so if you're thinking of reading the book, but that dynamic doesn't work for you, let me tell you: they're not like that

1) sqq is obsessed with lbh, there's not a moment he isn't thinking about lbh, the whole book is an ode to how wonderful, beautiful, cool, and perfect lbh is

2) on that note, lbh is sqq's most special little baby. He once compared him to a little sheep following him around and going baaaa baaaa. With those words.

3) besides calling lbh a little sheep, sqq also coined up the terms white lotus and black lotus for lbh, not us. He is also the one who talks about lbh's maiden heart, not us. The fandom didn't come up with any of that

4) if you see fanart of lbh crying and whining, that's not his actual personality, that's a manipulation tactic. Sqq knows this, it also works on him, he likes it. He expects lbh to act like this, because he's too embarrassed to be affectionate without a reason, and so lbh gives him the reason of "calming him" or "consoling him"

5) in fact, sqq thinks lbh's most toxic traits are cool.

6) lbh does behave like sqq's wife and has been doing it since he was 15. He enjoys housework, he enjoys showing love through acts of service

7) sqq did think lbh wanted to kill him (and with good reason) and that's the misunderstanding that soured their relationship for a while, if it weren't for that most of the plot wouldn't have happened.

Anyways, there's more, but remember that sqq LOVES lbh. He's loved him since the beginning, loves him so much he'd forgive anything lbh does. Also, he's the funniest and MOST unreliable narrator in existence.
