“Plastic Bag” Envisioning a Sustainable World”. “When making art, artist need not be complacent and should be equal participants in the investigation and vision toward a sustainable world”. Vision is the most vital step in the policy process. If we don’t know where we want to go , it makes little difference that we make great progress. Yet vision is not only missing almost entirely from policy discussions; it is missing from our whole culture. We talk about our fears, doubts and frustrations endlessly, but rarely talk about our dreams. Politicians are often accused of making these short sighted decisions, looking as far as the next election and carry a reputation of placing narrow parochial interests above the general welfare. #art #artistsoninstagram #abstractart #plasticbag #environment #seashepherd #politics #savetheearth #artintheenvironment #artist #yvonneciliaart In response to Donella Meadows; Envisioning a Sustainable World https://www.instagram.com/p/BxBfuPunyYJ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=nsd6h5r55tha

Manifesto for Beauty Therapy
1.    I will contest the need for harm to animals in any form throughout the production of cosmetics and beauty products.
2.    As a lecturer and beauty therapist I will educate about the use of palm oil sourced by unsustainable practices and the deforestation and devastation to the orangutans and their natural habitats.
3.    I will support the use of packaging that minimises impact on the environment.
4.    I will support companies that have sustainability practices and responsible social practices embedded into their ethos.
5.    I will educate and create awareness about the use of possible toxic ingredient used in beauty products to help people have an informed choice.
6.    I will oppose creating unrealistic ideals about beauty and cosmetic products in support of the young women that I teach and the social pressures around the objectification of women.
7.    I will recycle and minimise waste, water and energy use in my own practice and as a lecturer in a beauty therapy environment.
8. I will support companies that offer programs such as recycling incentives to customers and show commitment to minimising their impact on the environment.
9.  I will support a culture of using “green” technologies in the development and making of cosmetics, replacing out dated thinking.
10.  I will harness a culture of sustainability within the organization that I work, in my capacity as a lecturer.

Working on my video and finding the editing process quite a challenge to get it to flow as well as I would like it to. I have learnt a lot and have a new found appreciation for people who do this work.

Research for my Manifesto on Beauty Therapy
Cosmetic companies are also coming under the microscope for natural ingredient sourcing. The industry is one of the largest users of palm oil, a vegetable oil that is predominantly grown in Indonesia and Malaysia. Unethical sourcing of palm oil has been responsible for the destruction of tropical rainforests, threatening the habitat of endangered orang-utans. Unilever, one of the largest cosmetic companies in the world, was named as a buyer of unethical palm oil by Greenpeace in November 2009. The move led Unilever to drop its Indonesian supplier and make a commitment to only source sustainable palm oil certified by the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

Week 12 Principle
“Artists can and should unite in common causes, collectively and globally as a strong force for creating awareness around global issues”
In response to
I want to be with people who submerge in the task, who go into the fields to harvest and work in a row and pass the bags along, who are not parlor generals and field deserters but move in a common rhythm when the food must come in or the fire be put out.

Week 11 principle
“When making art, artists have the ability to contribute to a solution, both individually or as part of a group and should take responsibility in doing their share”
In response to the following passage from The Localization Reader: Adapting to the Coming Downshift.Raymond De Young and Thomas Princen
3.It is affirming.Localization affirms self-organization, self-reliance,self-limitation, and self-rule. It is not protest, not anti globalization, not anti technology, and not anti modern. It assumes everyone has the ability to contribute to a solution. While no one group is required to complete the work, neither are any groups free to avoid doing their share. It seeks appropriate technologies and well-regulated markets that build in responsibility among producers, consumers, investors, and regulators.

Manifesto for Change - Yvonne Cilia ( work in progress)
I believe in change
I want things to change, but I won’t change anything
I don’t like change but I want things to be better
I admire people who make changes
I want to participate in change
I don’t always participate in change
I fear change
I fear no change
I only change if it is forced upon me
I say I want change
I will not change
I could make a mistake if I change anything
I could make a mistake if I don’t change anything
I can choose what I change
I will change
I will not change
I realise change starts with me
I can make a change
I find change uncomfortable
I question if people really do want change?
Why can’t I change?
What can I change?
What stops me from change?
Will I change?
Will I make a change?
I will make a change

Haunting Sculpture Offers A Surreal Glimpse At The Future Of Climate Change
Venice, two giant hands reaching out from the murky, aquamarine waters below.
The disorienting vision is a sculpture called “Support” by artist Lorenzo Quinn, meant to provide a daunting premonition of the potential damage caused by climate change.
“Venice is a floating art city that has inspired cultures for centuries,” the artist said, in a statement released by Halcyon Gallery. “But to continue to do so it needs the support of our generation and future ones, because it is threatened by climate change and time decay.”

Historical image week 11
Wheatfield – a Confrontation by Agnes Denes. In 1982, the artist planted 2 acres of wheat atop the Battery Park Landfill in Manhattan. 1,000 pounds of wheat were harvested and taken around the world in “The International Art Show for the End of World Hunger.” The point of this piece was a “comment on human values and misplaced priorities.”
