Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

essay incoming be warned
i dont really have advice on whats good to do tbh, but i do have advice on what NOT to do. you absolutely cannot give them orders or just tell them to throw things out. especially if its a bunch of hoarders in one house.. i grew up with 1 hoarder and 1 borderline hoarder as parents and trust me if someone told me when i was young to just throw things away i absolutely would not have listened even though i was tired of living in a mess. i was raised as a hoarder and i never went over other ppls houses much. it was all i knew. i was aware other people didnt live like that but nothing changed for years. the only reason i escaped my own hoarding (around age 13-15 i think) was because one day i decided i was fucking sick of living in a mess, having all this junk i dont need and toys i dont play with and clothes i cant wear anymore and crappy furniture and dust and dirt everywhere. it took me an entire week of working every day but i cleaned out my entire room, donated so much shit and threw out so much more. i did throw out some things that i was sad to part with but i knew they had no value anymore. bottom line i saved whatever i wanted and had NO ONE help me because i knew it would only stress me out and they would try making decisions for me or mess up my flow etc etc. it was entirely my choice and my work that saved me. years of my parents telling me to clean my room (very hypocritical) never did anything. after my cleaning mega project, my room only ever got to normal teen levels of messy.
i was never able to fix my parents hoarding. they were old and set in their ways. occasionally we would all work together to clean one area of the house or another (usually by necessity aka someone lost their keys again or the repair man physically cannot get to the thing that needs repairing) but it would always fill up again. but, if the people youre talking about have good parents, chances are if the kids clean up their act then the parents might be more inspired to the same.
try to appeal to the younger members of the family ig. dont tell them "its not normal" or "just get rid of stuff you dont need" because it wont work. each person is obvs gonna be different but it might be good to appeal to them in ways such as making money off selling things, having more room to work/exercise/put new furniture/whatever, or let them/help them/show them research on how deep cleaning a room can improve your mindset and literally improve ur mental health. if they have shame about hoarding try to use that as leverage in a roundabout way (you could have more friends and people over if ur room was clean!). offer to help if you want but dont mother them about it. if theyre open to the idea of cleaning but dont wanna take action, personally i find that picking a section and going ham on that one part helped. also, WEARING GLOVES. especially if u know they have solid filth under the all the piles. it took me a few years to realize this but even when im trying to clean things that arent very dirty, i never wanted to do it because i was subconsciously thinking about getting dirty myself. until one day i put on a pair of gloves and tied my hair completely up for one thing i was cleaning and said wow this went so much easier and quicker than normal?? because i wasnt delicately picking my way through everything. also having a designated prep day and then a designated cleaning day helps in my current non hoarding (but still messy tbh) life. the day before im gonna clean i get all the trash bags, cleaning products, wipes paper towels sponges whatever, dustpan and broom, face mask(for anti dust allergy), find and put all that shit together in one spot so i dont have to go hunting for things in the middle of cleaning the next day and break the flow. because then im like damn im just gonna sit for a minute after that and then i never get up. maybe thats just my adhd talking but im sure a lot of messy ppl go through that.
i honestly dont know where i was going w all this anymore i feel like it was weird to drop 3 full paragraphs about this. hope u find some help in there somewhere idk 😭 good luck
genuine question, what do you do to help hoarders??? How do you help them to clean out their space and get it under control esp when they have struggled financially AND when it's a family of like six or seven..... you try to help them get rid of some stuff and they're offended, and theyre like "no I need that ugh!" Then they never use it....... What do you do? If anyone has resources beyond a basic google search pls send them..

no idea if youre still looking for this you poor soul, but this is what youre talking about if you havent found it yet:
Am I crazy or was there a post circling around here a month or so ago about “how to remove a soft tube from metal pipe” and the whole thing was trying to cover up the fact that is was the guy’s weiner…
I’ve told a friend in the same way one explains a joke and if I don’t find it I’m gonna look so weird

I miss the days when, no matter how slow your internet was, if you paused any video and let it buffer long enough, you could watch it uninterrupted

I'm like super normal and not unhinged in the slightest (I spent 3 days formatting, printing, and binding a niche internet story about sci fi football into a 280 page physical book)
