When salt is poured onto fresh frog legs, the muscles begin to twitch, giving them the appearance of still being alive. The reason this occurs is because the cells inside the legs are still intact. The sodium ion present in the salt acts as a signal from the brain, causing the muscle to contract and relax.

The Murder of Jaclyn Dowaliby
On September 10, 1988, seven-year-old Jaclyn Dowaliby was abducted from her home in Illinois during the night. The next morning her mother, Cynthia called the police to report her daughter missing. A broken window was found and the back door was left open. Police unfortunately failed to preserve the crime scene, which proved to be detrimental to the solving of the case.
Four days later, Jaclyn’s body was discovered 6 miles from her home. She had been manually strangled and had been dead since the day of her disappearance. Due to decomposition, it is unsure whether she was sexually assaulted or not.
Suspicions fell on her mother and stepfather, David and they went to trial in 1990. Her mother was let go, but a witness stated they had seen David in the area Jaclyn had been found and he was convicted of her murder. This conviction was overturned the next year under the defense that there wasn’t enough evidence to support David’s guilt. Jaclyn’s killer has never been identified or apprehended, though her uncle is considered a suspect by some due to his knowledge of Jaclyn’s bedroom set-up despite never having seen it.
If you have any information regarding Jaclyn’s murder, call the Midlothian Police Department at 1-708-385-2534.
