a little hello
i thought after graduating grad school the inspiration would trickle back in. you know, with time and work returning to a normal "sometimes i have days off" level, that slowly but surely my mind would fill with writing again--ideas, images, lines, characters. that writing high that i think so many of us writers chase.
which was maybe naive, knowing what i know, which is that even when i have time i have to fIGHT for inspiration!!
post grad life has been anything but quiet. i got assigned an insane teaching load, and while i love my job i just still don't have days off.
so here i am, expecting inspiration to just waltz right back in, for the stories to just pop out on the page. but instead i am still busy and still tired, but i don't want to negotiate whether or not i write with busy and tired any more. i just want to write.
ultimately, this week has reminded me of what i already knew: inspiration comes when make myself SIT and quiet everything else and try for the bare minimum.
i've been working a little bit on this sapphic story, and i do hope to share it with you soon. i think about you all more than you know, and i've very much missed being around all of your creative, charming, lovey selves.
sending out extra care on this chilly night.

i've been working on a sapphic dungeon story. its something that kind of just burst out of nowhere a couple of days ago after so many months of being overworked and burnt out. it suprised me.
but i'm not sure if it's OCs or genderswapped BTS or what? it's something new and i want to follow it wherever it will go....

Namjoon’s phone rings. Once. He looks at your name. Twice. He turns off the television. Three times. He picks up.
“How was it?” he asks.
There’s a breath on the other end.
Your breath. For a moment he pauses. His mind swims with the possibilities of bad things that could have happened on your date.
A calm hand reaches behind his anxious and tired mind and reminds him that it could have gone well. That breath could signify wonder and happiness.
“Hello?” he asks again as your silence makes the hand move with the anxiety.
“Oh my god, Namjoon!”
“Yes?”
You release another breath.
“It was amazing!!”
This time he is the one that releases a breath, a silent one that releases the anxiety into the room and out of his body.
“She is amazing! Beautiful, funny, oh my god she’s so funny!! And intelligent! She launched into a monologue about Kim Hyesoon’s poetry that would rival one of yours!”
There’s a small pang of jealousy that surges through him at this and yet, he’s happy for you. He’s so incredibly happy for you. The joy that you are feeling is palpable over the phone and he wants nothing to be sitting with you and watching you while you describe this perfect date. After all, you did the same for him when he finally asked out Yoongi.
“Tell me more,” he says eager to hear every detail that you are willing to spare about this date.
He will listen to every word. Every beautiful glorious word of joy and happiness.
You deserve all the happiness in the world.
You tell him all about the date. The coffee you drank, the dessert she paid for, the books you looked at when she took you to her favourite used bookstore, the way she yanked the book you had been looking at out of your hand before you could slide it back onto the shelf and how she insisted she buy it for you. You tell him how you walked along the river until the sun was down and how she walked you home, buying you tteokbokki when you said you couldn’t wait to eat your leftovers, and you tell him how calm and safe you feel with her. How she makes you feel seen because she watched you when you spoke about your new poem. How she held your hand when you started to talk about the anxieties that came with your thesis but never interrupted you or told you that it was all going to be okay.
“She just listened,” you say with a sort of soft happiness in your tone.
“Good. You deserve to be seen by other people,” he says in the same tone.
“Thank you.”
“For what?” he laughs.
“For being here.”
“Of course.”
There’s a pause and he thinks you might be crying a little.
“Breakfast tomorrow? My treat?” he asks.
“Yes please!”
“I want to hear more about her.”
