"That's not how it works. Loyalty means staying with the people who once chose you when nobody else would!" Angry tears spring to her eyes and roll over her cheeks before she can hide them.

His features are twisted when he steps closer and his voice is cutting, but lacking the usual coldness.

"Loyalty means choosing the same person over and over again. What you're describing is obligation."

Right when she thinks she's managed to drag him down to the lowest point with her, he mocks her efforts with a lopsided stretch of his lips. A demonstration of her lack of control - the core element of her sense of safety.

Even now he smiles, displaying his perfect teeth in a seemingly charming way. But she knows, the only thing he is happy about is her deteriorating grasp on her once iron principles.
