A Pride Divided

Following the path of a Blood Shaman isn't for everyone. It's actually one of the more difficult roles to fill within a pride's ranks due to the stigmatic ideals and involvement with death that comes along with it. Luckily for the Outlanders though that not only do they have an Elder who is ready to pass on her knowledge, but an extremely young cub who's eager to soak it up.
Blood Shamans typically aid in the cleansing of ill spirits through blood and aiding them in their final passage into the afterlife. This is more frowned upon due to the desecration of a family member's corpse, skeleton, grave, etc. all depending on the current stage the body is undergoing within the circle of life. Most family members of lions who need aid in passing over do not wish to partake in a Blood Shaman's ceremony as it is a more unsightly event; juggling leftover blood, tissue, and sinew that still lingers within their body and chanting almost intelligible language that's been lost with time. After the ceremony has been completed and the blood cleansed, it is finally returned to the earth, usually a blood soaked area of earth within the territory that is dedicated to this process.
Thankfully, this process is practiced mostly on prey many times before it is needed within the pride, allowing the disciples of blood to be as rough and unceremonious as needed to perfect the tricky art-form; most return blood stained and terrifying, but quickly become acclimated back into the pride once they clean up.
