I need everyone to understand that if you or a loved one is depressed, please seek help or talk to someone. The mistake that people make is leaving someone who is depressed alone thinking that they just need some time apart from others. When people are very depressed, they often (not always) don’t have the energy to carry out a plan to hurt themselves. However, if they start feeling a little better or get a sense of clarity, that point in time increases their risk for self harm because they still feel pretty bad but now have more energy and wherewithal to carry out a plan. When these situations are also coupled with something like addiction, everything goes dark quickly. Addiction is a soul-destroying monster. If you robe it in depression, it becomes a rampaging, devouring beast. It takes away your joy, your judgment, and your impulse control. It whispers to you that it will take away your pain while it quietly and relentlessly adds to it. It takes over everything and casts illusions of comfort while dragging you into the pit.

These people are suffering greatly and, unfortunately, they often think that by removing themselves, they remove the burden and can ease the pain of those around them. However, what I believe they fail to realize is the fact that by taking their own life they take something from those that love them and there is a higher risk of their loved ones falling into a dark place and becoming depressed themselves.

Please, please, help the people around you who are suffering in this way, don’t leave them alone, and if you are hurting, please seek someone to talk to or just someone to be with in your lowest times.
