psst here's an unfinished prompt that's been sitting in the drafts for two years ☠️☠️
Catra's Stupid Ass Gets Sick
Pre-series Catra sneaks out of the compound a lot. What did she have to lose, really, by breaking the rules?
She doesn't tell Adora, exactly, but she knows. Adora always knew when Catra needed to run. If she was running because she was hurt, Adora would go after her, sure
But most times? Adora understood Catra just needed the fresh air to feel like she had control again.
Anyway, there's this one night where Catra's run out after a failed simulation on her part. This is one of those times where Adora's after her, but she's not on the roof in their spot and she's not on the junk pile through the main back door, so Adora's at a loss.
It doesn't look good out there. It never looks good, in the Fright Zone, just better than terrible, but tonight it looks like it might snow - their version of it; cold and icy and a little acidic, like everything in the FZ.
Catra sees it too. Doesn't really care. She's covered in fur, right? She's never been sick in her whole life, not like Afora. She's on the very edge of the Fright Zone, hiding out in a little cavern formed by scrap metal and still-smoking pipage. She knows she needs to get back by head-count, but oh, that snow's picking up a little. Geez.
Adora is...concerned. She knows Catra always makes it back before head-count, but this is pushing it. Oh, fuck it. Screw Force Captain. Adora was going to look for her.
So here's Adora, trudging out into the Fright Zone, thinking that Catra's ass owes her way too many ration bars, when she hears this faint mewling from a pile of scrap.
"Adora?" Catra was collapsed against a board of corrugated iron, but smiles at her friend faintly.
"Catra! What did you do? Are you hurt?"
"Nah, flu, I think. It's fine, let's get back." And in a grandiose display of fine, Catra stands up and falls on her face.

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

Where are my wlw whump lovers who absolutely cannot stand lady whump unless both whumpee and caretaker are wlw
13 notes · View notes
Anyway whumpee complaining to the point of annoying others about a minor injury they got so they throw suspicion off the major injury they’re definitely hiding
Bonus points if they like. Incite the minor injury in some way. Maybe they piss off one extra goon they really don’t have to engage with so their face is bloody and no one notices the stab wound lol

All my batfam writing is pre rebirth bc it’s very important to me that Tim doesn’t have a spleen and Idk if that’s still a thing after the reboot

We continue the batfamily series of injuries
Dick is way less angsty than his brothers, he’s just kind of a clown sometimes
Jason, Tim, and Damian all started out in environments where sharing weakness was frowned upon. Dick definitely did not; He was happy with his parents and they were pretty affectionate
And so I raise you: Dick only hides injuries in any capacity when one of his siblings is hurt more lol he’s a selfless guy and a Big Brother©️ if I’ve ever seen one
Like, him and Tim both have the flu but Tim doesn’t have a spleen so that wins out and he doesn’t tell anybody
Dick even tries to lecture him on his health- “Tim your immune system is compromised and you’re not only endangering yourself-“ he gets caught by a sudden wave of dizziness and stops for a second
Tim squints
Tim squints really hard at the flush on the cheeks Dick’s tried to cover with Steph’s concealer, and the slightly glazed eyes, and the black t-shirt he definitely only put on to hide the sweat-
“You’re sick too, asshole.”
“I’m nOT-“ But Tim stops him, because yes he fucking is, the hypocrite.
Timmy tells Alfred because if he has to suffer bed rest (not that bad; he snuck his computer into his bedroom) then so does Dick (absolutely terrible, cannot sit still, hyperactive king)
This leads to the “Check Dick Second” system in which if one of his siblings is injured one of them will check Dick for injuries right after the sibling is treated
Mostly Dick lets it happen because as long as he’s not treated before his sibling he might as well let them have some peace of mind over his well-being, or whatever

Heehee I love a lil found family
I love when a found family lives together bro.....like Marvel 2012 fanfiction where they all lived in the tower....
There really is something just so intimate about living together bc if you’ve known these people forever you get to watch their traits play out in a domestic setting and if you don’t know them that well (a recently formed team) there’s no better way to learn about a person
Like, people’s traits affect the way that they keep house and live, sometimes in contradictory ways. The chaotic jokester character has never had a clean room in their life. To everyone’s surprise, neither has the sarcastic asshole.
Characters that appear very composed only for their complete mess of the way they actually live to betray their true personality
Character A: “It’s four am are you playing league I-“
Character B, bloodshot, not turning their head: “Yes.”
The next day they go to training and Character B functions exactly as they normally do, but Character A knows they literally did not get more than two hours of sleep
“You need? To sleep? Like the rest of us?”
“No?”
It’s the little things that add context to the way we see other people bro
It’s about the avengers living in the tower I’m not a marvel fan but that fandom NAILED it they knew what was up

I really like when characters convince themselves they’re being logical by hiding their injuries. Like, “ This mission is too important to put off and it’s genuinely not relevant that my leg is broken.” My favorite characters always rationalize insane shit lmao

Jason Todd Tings™️
Hi, hey, how y’all doing, Jason Todd when he gets injured
Remember my post about how Tim doesn’t actually actively try to hide when he’s injured? That doesn’t run in the family. Jason does that shit all the fucking time.
Jason’s a really independent person, if you look at the outlaws and the people he’s worked with outside of the batfam (i.e. the ones he was with voluntarily) they’re not exactly the coddling type. Jason surrounds himself with independence. You could write a whole analysis on how his childhood™️ caused him to be like this but that’s not what I’m here to do 🤪
It’s not some angsty, “I deserve pain”, Batman shit. It’s more like Jason finds the idea of asking someone to help him with an injury kind of absurd. Jason Todd was a street rat whose formative years were stuck in an orphanage. That changes the way you think of other people and how they can help you.
Anyway, when Jason was living in the manner during his run as Robin, he got stabbed on a patrol one night. Batman was off fighting Two-Face, he wasn’t there. Jason “I read about this once in a book” Todd gives himself stitches in a dirty Gotham alley. When he took off his shirt later that night in front of Alfred, he felt his eyes on him.
“What, Alfred? Is there something wrong?”
Alfred is... terse. His first assumption is that Bruce was trying to teach him some misplaced lesson. “Who gave you those stitches?”
“Oh, haha, I did, why are you looking at me like that, is something wr-“ he notices Alfred’s face.
Alfred, gently but very, very firmly: “ Master Todd, in this manor, if you are injured beyond a scratch or bruise you let someone else know immediately. Your line of work does not allow for this kind of behavior.”
Jason....doesn’t have any idea how to respond. Why did he care? It didn’t affect the patrol. It just... didn’t matter. But he tells Alfred he would let him know, anyway.
And for the rest of Jason’s time as Robin? He does. Not to Bruce, not if it could wait until they were home, but if Alfred or, sometimes, Dick, were there, he would let them know. Jason felt safe enough for the first time in his life to let them help. He still didn’t really understand why, but he could placate the people in his life he cared about.
Jason grew up. In his time in the manor and after it, he came to understand that other people cared for each other when they were sick or hurt because they loved one another. But after the pit, it was all different. He couldn’t let anyone see him when he was sick or hurt, because God, what if nobody loved him enough to care like that? He thought somebody had, once. He was wrong.
So you’re stuck with this twenty-something kid with rudimentary knowledge of shady street medical practice and an absolutely crushing inability to ask anyone at all to help when he’s injured and you have prime whump potential™️ 😎
Jason gets shot one night in the shoulder hunting down some crime lord. He’s in a dirty Gotham alley, and he does what he did before he knew people gave a shit about him: give himself stitches. Jason sees the parallel. Doesn’t think about it for too long.
The next day, Batman calls him in for some team up with Tim and Dick against another fucking crime lord (“pack it up, Don Corleone” Jason thinks to himself”) and Jason gets hit in the shoulder by some thug.
He has a high pain tolerance but s h i t that burns and he cries out.
Dick notices. Dick knows people and he knows that hit wasn’t that hard so he’s the first one to figure out Jason was already injured in the shoulder.
Dick.... has done this before. If confronted about it, Jason would absolutely just straight up leave when the mission was done. If he left it alone, there was a small chance Jason would crash at the manor instead of his apartment that night, out of some nostalgia Dick knew he had for the place.
So he doesn’t say anything. Tim has noticed too- of course he had- and was about to say something to Jason when Dick interrupted.
“Hey, Jason, are you g-“ “-going to the dry cleaner tomorrow? There’s a suit I really need c-“ Tim stares at him like he’s gone fucking crazy, partially because he interrupted him, and partially because he insinuated Jason owned anything that needed dry cleaned
Jason stays. His bed at the manor is just bigger than the one in his apartment, he doesn’t miss it, shut up-
Dick tells Alfred. He’s the only one who could really get to Jason, anyway, so Alfred marches in and reads him the whole riot act on not hiding injuries and some choice words on his “god complex” and “complete lack of common sense”
But Jason has heard this before. “Who really cares, Alfred? Maybe when I was a kid. I died. I came back. Who cares if I get a little scraped up along the way?”
Alfred spent a lifetime dealing with emotionally repressed teenagers and emotionally repressed twenty somethings, so this does not have the effect Jason had hoped. “Impressive attempt, Master Todd. You’ve gotten very, very good at pushing people away and I applaud the word choice. You don’t need me to tell you people care. You, as an unusually bright young man, know this already. When you’re ready to admit it, come and see me and I’ll redo the stitches. They’ve gotten better, by the way.”
Jason sits there with the surprised pikachu face lmfao he thought Alfred would just leave
He doesn’t see Alfred that night, or the next morning, either. But he’s never really lost his faith in Alfred, not the way he had in Bruce. Somewhere deep down, Jason remembered that Alfred did love him. Of course he did. Did Jason love Alfred enough to let him do this for him?
By noon the next day, the answer was yes and they all lived in the manor and lived happily ever after :)
No that didn’t happen but Jason did let Alfred stitch him up and it was a little closer to home than it had been so- it was a start.
