apparently it’s a controversial opinion but… butters’ character arc in season 20 makes sense in the context of the show and butters is not ooc (character development is a thing, guys)

i like to imagine that butters just can’t comprehend the idea that the main four can be the main five, it’s not a big deal. so he passionately tries to prove himself worthy and that, in fact, he is a much better kenny replacement that kenny mccormick himself. kenny would laugh it off at first, until he found out that cartman, kyle and stan invited butters over to play “Monopoly”. even though stan said “dude, you’re always telling us how much you hate this game” kenny was deeply offended. also he saw butters grinning which made everything even worse. ever since, there’s a silent rivalry between kenny and butters
