I donāt even care if itās macaroni, ramen or those little bowls you stick in the microwave. Please, I need reassurance that most of the population on tumblr WOULDNāT STARVE TO DEATH if their parents couldnāt fix them food or they couldnāt go out to eat.Ā

āJames Wouldnāt Have Stopped Us. But Lily Wouldāve.ā
Sirius & Remus Missing Moment in Order of Phoenix
āI donāt reckon my dad wouldāve wanted his best friends to become killers.ā
ā¦
āJames wouldnāt have stopped us,ā muttered Sirius sullenly to Remus one day in Grimmauld Place.
Every day he was there in hiding, he bitterly regretted the moment of weakness where they had listened to Harryās plea. He resented where it had gotten him.
āJames wouldāve understood,ā Sirius continued. āHe wouldāve let us kill Pettigrew. He wouldnāt have wanted to spare him. Not after his betrayal.ā
He looked at defiantly at Remus, expecting his old friend to challenge himā¦ But he didnāt.
āI think youāre right Sirius,ā said Remus quietly. āIn my heart of hearts, I donāt think the James I knew wouldāve done what Harry did. James wouldnāt have stopped us.ā
Remus paused thoughtfully for a moment. He couldnāt hold back a small smile.
āBut Lily wouldāve. Sirius, thereās no doubt in my mindā¦ Harry is as much of his mother on the inside as he is his father on the outside.ā
Sirius suddenly felt a lump in his throat. He felt as though something had struck him. He nodded curtly, at a loss for words. He wasnāt expecting that.
Sirius thought of Lilyās fierce green eyes. The ruthless kindness and the unrelenting mercy. The absolute commitment to always do what was right. Heād never met anyone else with that kind of goodness inside of themā¦ until he met her son.
He knew it was the truth, whether he liked it or not. He knew they had done the right thing that day, as much as he suffered now.
āDamn it Evans,ā Sirius whispered.

Saw a post on Reddit, and now I have feelings. Allow me to stand on this here soap box for a minute.
JKR has stated that Fred and George figured out the passphrase for the Maurader's Map by being coached through it by the map itself. This makes me all the more irritated with the line "Never trust anything if you can't tell where it keeps its brain" and I absolutely hate that she made Arthur Weasley say it. It's a moment completely out of character for him, a man who offers soft comfort and encouragement to his children every day. A man who only ever raised his voice once in 7 books when his sons took a prank too far and intentionally caused harm. There's no way he would berate his daughter, who is clearly torn up about what happened, for getting manipulated, especially not as the first words he speaks to her after she was minutes away from death.
Inconsistent world building leads to inconsistent characters. It's literally never addressed that the map is sentient, just like the fucking diary. Nope, we're just told talking diary = evil, and dumb Ginny should have known better; meanwhile, talking map = funny and brilliant piece of magic.
Fred and George fucked around with a parchment that coached them how to reveal enchantments on it and nothing happened to them. How the hell was an 11yo girl supposed to assume her talking diary was nefarious??? She lives in a literal world of magic where letters scream at you and mirrors offer encouragement and grooming tips. Why the fuck *wouldn't* a magical diary offer sympathy and soothing words, friendship and camaraderie??
I have to step off this soap box, I could ramble on forever, so I'll part with these words - JKR did Ginny dirty

Canon facts about James Potter:
ā¢ He was confident and did not care what others thought of him. The only exception was Sirius.
ā¢ When Vernon Dursley boasted about his wealth, James bragged about his sizeable networth in return.
ā¢ His father was in Gryffindor. His motherās house is unknown, but it was presumably Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff (if she attended Hogwarts at all).
ā¢ James and Sirius met on the train.
ā¢ His parents were old when they had him, and it took multiple tries. They doted on him and adored him.
ā¢ Heās the only known Headboy who wasnāt a prefect.
ā¢ He has a grandfather called Henry. Possibly, Harry was named after him.
ā¢ James did not inherit the invisibility cloak during his time at Hogwarts.
ā¢ His parents saw him marry Lily Evans, but died before the birth of Harry.
ā¢ He financially supported Remus after they graduated from Hogwarts.
ā¢ James referred to Remusā lycanthropy as his āfurry little problemā, leading people to believe he was in ownership of a violent rabbit.
ā¢ He has hazel eyes.

Harry with Hermione ALONE without Ron: Harry liked Hermione very much, but she just wasnāt the same as Ron. There was much less laughter and a lot more hanging around in the library when Hermione was your best friend
Ron and Hermione ALONE without Harry: Ron and Hermione had just turned up in the common room, pink-faced from the cold wind and looking as though theyād had the time of their lives.
..................................................................................
Harry when Hermione is crying: Harry felt dazed. He stooped, picked up the Horcrux, and placed it around his own neck. He dragged blankets off Ronās bunk and threw them over Hermione. Then he climbed onto his own bed and stared up at the dark canvas roof, listening to the pounding of the rain.
Ron when Hermione is crying: Ron, he saw, was now holding Hermione and stroking her hair while she sobbed into his shoulder, tears dripping from the end of his own long nose
..................................................................................
Hermione when Harry is angry: āI mean, it was really great of you and everything,ā said Hermione quickly, looking positively petrified at the look on Harryās face,
Hermione when Ron is angry: āTake off the locket, Ron,ā Hermione said, her voice unusually high. āPlease take it off. You wouldnāt be talking like this if you hadnāt been wearing it all day.ā

Sirius black: has the most traumatic night of his life, loses his family and sees 13 people killed in front of his eyes, by a man he personally loved and protected for years, who's safety he himself made sure of, then goes to the torture prison of hell for over a decade until he starves himself enough to escape his cell and then swims in his starved form through the North Sea, and finds not one, but two places that are unplottable by magic (Harry's place and hogwarts), and only barely gets away with his life even after a werewolf took bites out of him and his old prison wards tried to eat his soul, just because some kids had a time turner and compassion, then spends one year doing nothing but being on the run and giving emotional support to Harry, then gets locked up again in the mausoleum of his abusive childhood and gets mocked by everyone, only to end up dying in a freak accident
Ppl in this fandom: ew sirius sucks, nobody has ever suffered more than regulus, sirius was just some drama queen, Snape was a better dad to Harry than sirius, sirius needs his werewolf daddy to teach him compassion and accountability he's so stupid and vapid, he should get a grip frfr

The thing is,
You can see HBP from Ginny's pov as the emotionally excruciating process of dealing with coming to terms with still having feelings for Harry, feelings that are now reciprocated after years of pining, mixed with an intense sense of guilt over poor Dean's unfortunate position in the whole mess...
OR
(and this is a lot more fun)
You can see it as Ginny being in the middle of one of those classic teenage tv series love triangles. On one side there's the good guy, the reasonable choice, the one no fan if not a couple of delusional ones is rooting for because he is kind of boring. And on the other side, you have the fan favourite, the dark brooding guy with light eyes who would let the world burn to save the girl. Rationally he is kind of a terrible choice but the girl is obviously in love with him and, let's face it: there wasn't really any competition to begin with.

Tears ricochet
It occurs to her all at once, her nose buried in his chest, his arms tight around her shoulders.Ā
āYouāre alright,ā he whispers. āYouāre alright.ā
When she looks up to him, sees his eyes shut and his pained lips, she immediately knows he is not trying to reassure her. He is reassuring himself.
Heād found her in the Common Room, not long after heād disappeared with Professor McGonagall behind the doors of the hospital wing. Heād walked straight to her as soon as heād seen her, ignoring Ron and Hermioneās worried looks, and heād held like he had not seen her since before heād left the school with Dumbledore. Heād clung to her like heād only just realised that they had been apart during a battle, that heād been too far away to protect her, that he cannot be in two places at once. And it pains him, she can tell, it takes his breath away.
This must be it, she thinks - she knows. She clenches her fists, pressing her body onto his only for him to feel that sheās alive, sheās safe, sheās real. She wonāt leave him, not until heāll ask her to.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Stupid and noble.
.
No, she understands. Really, she does. It mustāve been somewhere hidden in theĀ fine print on dating the Chosen One. Right under He will set off to top-secret missions with old wizards that end up dying, itād say: Heāll push you away to keep you safe, and then: Heāll leave you behind, whatever that means. And finally: You must let him.
After all, her feelings are irrelevant in the bigger picture. Thereās a war raging out there, for Merlinās sake. Why would she even waste time fantasising about a boy she fancies when Dumbledore has died and her brother has been maimed? Itās only selfish to even fathom those silly feelings in a time like this, right? Right?
She forces her head back under the hot stream of the shower, lets the water flood her face and blur her vision, trying harder than herself to shut down that one intrusive thought she knows has now started creeping in the back of her mind. But she canāt. She canāt because she already knows, not so deep down, that heās not just some boy she fancies, that her feelings arenāt silly, that what they share is there and itās real, whatever it is.
Her mouth tastes bitter now. Ironic how Tom has ruined this for them, too.Ā
.
She tells Hermione the following morning, when the boys have run off to find some lunch for them to eat under a tree. Sheās not sure what she expects to get out of her, but she says it anyway.
āHeās going to leave me.ā
Hermione opens her mouth but nothing comes out, her eyes sombre. Ginny realises she has been holding her breath.
āYou all are.ā
Still, the warm July sun bathes the castle grounds as if summer does not care, as if it is all some cruel joke.
.
When it finally happens, at least she is not caught off guard. She manages to hold back her tears, just as she promised herself on countless occasions, because he does not deserve any more pain. He does not deserve any of it.Ā
Funny how she is the one who is getting her heart broken, but she is still more concerned about his well being than anything else. Maybe this is what love is, she finally realises. It must be.Ā
She reckons this is not the best time to tell him. Wonders if sheāll ever get the chance to.
.
On the train ride back home, sheās finally alone and free to let out all those tears sheās so stubbornly managed to hold back until now. Sheās only human, after all.Ā
She feels it all so distinctly now, the pain, the grief, the hurt, the hopelessness. But there is something almost peaceful about the deep-rooted, ever-present, plain old sense of acceptance that sits right on top of her stomach.Ā
She knows it too well that the time has come for the Chosen One to prevail over Harry. The Chosen One has things to do, riddles to solve (Really, Ginny?, she thinks, half-smiling despite herself), and Harry has to oblige, head down, feelings buried, a wasted adolescence. It must be hard to love the Chosen One, that self-sacrificing, reckless, stubborn, noble git. But loving Harry, the real Harry, is the easiest thing in the world.Ā
As for her - well, she knows she deeply cares for them both. Hell with that, she knows she loves them both. And, yes, she understands them both. She knows all too well what her role is, in all this mess. She really does know that the Chosen One really had no choice but to break up with her before doing whatever he is set to do. She also knows that Harry never would have.Ā
This is the only thought that will keep her going even months from now, when she will be fighting her own resistance battle.
.
As soon as she sets foot into her home, the all-too-familiar smells flooding her senses, she just knows she wonāt be able to sit through an entire dinner without giving away too much. Sheās too tired to lie and pretend.
āIām going to bed,ā she mutters to nobody in particular. āIām not hungry,ā and: āYes, Iām fine, Iām just knackered.ā
Her mother stiffens, ready to let out a protest, but she turns on her heels towards the stairs before anyone manages to say anything. She can feel Ronās eyes on the back of her neck, just as sheās felt his silent and constant gaze since theyāve gotten off the train not so long ago. And when she feels his heavy steps behind her, following hers, sheās not even surprised.
They stop on the first floor landing, just in front of her bedroom door.
āIām fine, Ron,ā she quickly tells him, suddenly worrying that heāll jump right into one of those how dare my best friend hurt my sister kind of rants. āDonāt worry about it.ā
But instead, when she looks at him she realises that heās not going to do any of that. His expression is miserable, sure, but it doesnāt take long for her to learn that he understands, too.
āIām so sorry, Ginny,ā he blurts out, no need to add more.
And thatās when it hits her, again, but much stronger this time. Maybe itās because itās someone else who is putting it in front of her, making it more real, or maybe itās because sheās back home and the void left by Harry's absence is slowly starting to burn her gut. Maybe both, or maybe neither. It doesnāt even matter, that's for sure.
āIām sorry, too.ā
He must have felt that something has changed, her voice has shifted and her eyes have filled with tears. She can read it all over his face - the distress, the panic, the what do I do now. She reckons she hasnāt cried in front of him since that train ride on her way to school in her second year. Must be new for him, must feel weird.
But even if his expression doesnāt seem to have a clue, his body certainly does - he stretches out his arm towards her and she grabs right away, as if they have never really gotten rid of the long forgone habit of holding each other. He engulfs her in a warm hug, the Big Brother Hug, crumbling the last piece of guard she had managed to hold up until now. And then she just cries - she cries ugly, sobs and snot and all that. She feels like sheās twelve all over again.
.
Later, in her childhood bedroom, she sinks deep into her bed, ready to doze off into what she hopes will be dreamless oblivion. In that dark, quiet stillness, she canāt stop her mind from wandering to a time (or a fantasy, she isnāt quite sure) when this will all be over. He will slip into the very same tiny bed, squeezed right next to her, his hands gripped on her waist, lips pressed onto hers, then on her jaw, her neck, her shoulder. Or maybe - no, maybe she will rest her head on his chest, listening to the sound of him breathing, and he will gently stroke her hair as if heād never really stopped. Or maybe (and here she canāt help but feel a soft blush tickling her cheeks), maybe their bodies and souls will find each other, bare, warm, breathless.Ā
āI canāt believe I got this lucky,ā heāll tell her, you know, after. āI canāt believe I get to live this life.ā
āBeen dreaming of getting in my bed for long, now, have you,ā sheāll tease, her sardonic tone merely hiding her immense relief.
Heāll let out a small smile - small, yes, but finally light, free, and easy, so, so easy.
āAll those Veelas didnāt quite hitā, heāll draw some imaginary quotation marks in the air and throw her a knowing look. āThe spot, you know.ā
Sheāll snort a laughter in disbelief, and sheāll be so fucking glad, because as though everything will have changed, so much will have just stayed the same.

i'm a firm believer in the idea that draco and astoria raised scorpius like a pureblood but without the blood supremacy ideals and bigotry. he's fluent in 4 different languages, has been taking piano and etiquette lessons ever since he was 3, knows multiple genres of ballroom dance and ballet, is proficient in horseback riding and fencing, et cetera. but to make it funny i like to imagine that despite all of this he has no practical life skills whatsoever. like he can play rachmaninoff pieces or translate ancient latin scripts with ease, but ask him to do something basic like boil an egg and he'd probably manage to burn the house down.
