Tips for a Bridal booking: On the day

This little checklist really helped me deal with my first bridal booking and I hope it helps you too! Please note that while this information may be useful for in salon makeup artists, it is mostly written for roaming/mobile artists 1. Make face charts for bridesmaids, bride, mother of bride etc and write down the products you are using on them. Before you pack up your makeup case for the night make sure you have each and every item you have used on the face chart. Too often we forget the simplest things which can have disastrous results on the big day. 2. Don't make excuses! Pack your case as soon as possible. Don't leave it to the last minute when you will be too sleepy, confused, frazzled to make sure you have everything. If you pack your case the afternoon before the wedding and you wake up in the middle of the night reembering you didn't put that tube of mascara in, atleast you have the time to sort this out. Our brains have a delayed recall system when we are stressed so don't rely on last minute memory or you will be remembering items when you are halfway to the venue. 3. Baby wipes....lots of them. You have no idea how many you're going to go through. Better safe than sorry. Same goes for cotton balls, cotton pads, q tips, tissue. 4. Pack extra eyelashes glue. 5. Throw in a few safety pins and a mini sewing kit into the case. You never know, you might be the one who saves the day when your bride pops a button or rips a hem. 6. Mints! Keep your breath fresh if youre going to be in peoples faces all morning. 7. Take some hand santizer. Trust me on this one. 8. If you get nervous easy and don't want to fumble through your makeup case for items its perfectly ok to place items in ziploc bags and label them. You can even make bags for each person for example but all the brides makeup in one zip loc bag and staple the face chart to the bag. 9. Pill containers, the kind that old folks use to monitor their daily dose of pills are perfect little containers to pop some of the essentials like touch up foundation and lipstick for the wedding party to take with them to the wedding for touch ups. Be sure to label each one with the persons name so they aren't using the wrong shade of foundation on themselves 10. Give yourself that extra hour and a half start in the morning or evening to account for everything that could go wrong on the day. Better early than late to an appointment. 11. Remember to wash and sanitise EVERYTHING you will be using like capes, brushes, hair brushes and combs, styling tools. You WILL be scrutinised for this if not to your face then after you have left the room. They are paying you to be professional. 12. Do get enough sleep and be chipper on the day. It's someone's big day and yes emotions are going to be running high. Being grumpy because you didn't sleep well the night before is not professional.
