Shinjuku Boys (1995). Tatsu, a transgender man, jokes with his barber about his changing appearance, and his newly masculine features.
TRANSCRIPT:
BARBER: So you go regularly to the hospital for your hormone injection?
TATSU: [nods]
BARBER: Does it hurt?
TATSU: Not at all.
BARBER: You have more facial hair. It must be the hormones. You’ll get a moustache soon.
TATSU: I’ll look distinguished! They’ve made quite the difference. I never thought I’d change so much. Most customers say I’m like a man.
BARBER: Really?
TATSU: [laughing] They say, “You look like a man. You’re not cute.”
BARBER: [laughs]
Even through its faults it’s still very much worth checking out ( hiatuses and slow current arc due to the creators health) if you don’t mind monthly chapter and breaks it’s worth it
It’s got
-Good and fun characters, there’s someone here for everyone, this such a fun and diverse cast from know it alls, fight junkies, carefree characters, etc just a lot of characters who fit into different tropes
-Great fights and choreography
- fleshed out but not too complex power system, which leads to well throughout fights with plenty of strategy plus they look cool
-nice character development
- realistic character development and skill progression
pretty much Osamu (the MC) goes through development in a much more realistic way, where he’s making improvements and getting better but isn’t beating people who’ve been fighting for years without a great deal of effort and smarts,
From what I’ve seen some people don’t like his character and this kinda of character development in general but I do and the good news is if you don’t, you have Kuga (white haired small dud)
Who has more of a typical shonen development very quick skill development to point its bs just learning thing unnatural well plus already has some good skilled
Overall I really enjoyed this series
It was fun a light read, that was really well rounded it’s just a shame about the mangakas health
