Someone abandoned a Trubbish at my poke-mart the other day and seems scared of everyone except me. How do I go about checking to make sure it's okay? I haven't dealt with a Trubbish in a long time.

I’d pick up some gloves first, because poison types that like Trubbish sometimes carry disease or toxins in their skin/sludge that can be harmful if it comes into contact with your skin. Ask the Pokè-Mart employees if it has a trainer, and if it’s wild, try throwing some treats towards it! If you can get close enough to trap or catch it, do so. It might take a few days to earn Trubbish’s trust before it allows you to touch it, though.

If you successfully capture it, bring it immediately to a Pokè Center. Ask them to check their database for any reports of a missing Trubbish, just to make sure it doesn’t have a trainer. Once Trubbish has been examined by Pokè Center staff and confirmed to be wild, it’s up to you! You can take it in if you’d like, or take it to a reputable shelter. I hope all goes well, and I’m sending you lots of luck and love!

She evolved while she was fighting a weird Pokémon. It was black and red, and it was creating illusions. After she defeated it, it followed me home! Should I keep it, and if so, do you know what it is?

It sounds like she fought either a Zorua or Zoroark. Regardless, these mischievous little cuties make wonderful companions if you’re able to earn their respect. Which, because it followed you home, it seems like you did! If you have the means to keep it, please do! It sounds like this Zorua/Zoroark sees you as a strong trainer and wants to battle by your side. If you can’t take it in right now, explain to the Pokèmon that you’re not in a place to be able to take it in, and offer to take it back to where you found it or to a reputable shelter.

Hi! So, my roommate has a Goomy, Smudge, and he recently evolved into a Sliggoo! The only problem is- he can't seem to see now! He bumps into a lot of things around the house, and he waves his feelers around a lot. His slime- mucus- whatever it is- seems to have gotten a lot more caustic too; I got what looks like a burn from picking him up! Do you have any tips for making life easier for us and our little buddy?

I’m sorry to hear that he can’t see super well after his evolution. I have good news, though! Evolution is tough on the Pokèmon, and often involves very drastic changes to their body. Pokèmon like Sliggoo, who are covered in mucus, often have a hard time adjusting when they evolve. But there’s hope!

It’s not uncommon for Pokèmon to have a rocky adjustment period to their new bodies. I remember when Sugar, my Swoobat, evolved, she wouldn’t go outside for a week because her eyes were much bigger and no longer covered by fur. She was newly sensitive to light and it made it hard for her to see during the day. However, it only lasted a week. Her body needed time to adjust, and now she’s totally fine being outside on bright days. It sounds like Smudge just needs some time to get used to the new placement of his eyes on his face. Give it time, and give Smudge lots of love while he transitions! He’ll get used to it and thrive.

As far as the burns, ouch! Those are no joke! Again, with time, Smudge’s slime should neutralize and you should be able to pet him again soon enough. In the mean time I’d go pick up some thick gloves! I go through gloves like crazy here at the Daycare, and I pick them up for, like, 50 Pokèdollars at my local Pokè Mart. You should be able to pet/touch Smudge with those on until he neutralizes in a few days. I hope this helped!

Hi! I've been training at my local battle facility so I can get strong enough to battle in the Battle Subway! But lately, I've noticed a Lucario without a Trainer sparring there too! He (I think it's a he) doesn't seem to be in any sort of trouble, and when I asked the manager, they said the Lucario trains here all the time and they've never seen it with a Trainer! Is this normal? Should I ask it to spar with me? Or maybe call my local Pokémon Center?

It’s up to you! With higher intelligence Pokèmon like Lucario, they often can learn to take care of themselves. Of course, it’s beneficial for them to have a trainer to take care of them, so if you want to get to know this Lucario you should try! It might not be open to having a trainer, though, so prepare yourself for that outcome if you try to get it to join your team. I hope it works out well!

Hello! I’ve heard nothing but good things about your daycare. I’m a huge Pokémon lover, and have always wanted to look after a creature of my own. However, my job as a business consultant means that I’m often away from home, usually for two or three days at a time. To make matters worse, I live in a house by myself. I also live in Paldea, which doesn’t have a daycare. Pokésitters aren’t cheap, and the last thing I want is to leave my Pokémon starved of food and attention when I’m at a meeting in Sinnoh. As much as I hate to say it, I don’t feel like I can own a Pokémon responsibly in my current situation.

So I asked around. A breeder suggested that I get a Tandemaus. They’re apparently tidy, capable of keeping their own company, and able to take care of themselves if one of them gets sick. I’ve also considered owning a more solitary Grass-type that is capable of photosynthesizing for food. But I’m no expert in the matter. And if anything, your account has made me more wary about breeders’ advice…

Do you know of any Pokémon that could live a healthy, happy life, even if I’m not always going to be there to take care of them? I just really want something to keep me company when I get home after a busy day at work.

Sounds like you need a Pokèmon that’s intelligent, capable of being alone for extended periods of time, and will provide companionship for when you are home in Paldea.

I certainly think a Tandemaus could be a great fit, but, I want to bring your attention to some other possible fits. Firstly, have you ever met a Reuniclus?

They’re native to Unova, and are very intelligent creatures. They don’t make much noise, other than beeping and static-esque chirps. They have sweet, cute, little squishy faces, and they are so easy to care for! They don’t need much exercise, because their constant hovering is often enough for them day to day. I would make sure to stock your home with difficult, durable puzzle toys, because those arms are no joke, and neither is its brain. A bored Pokèmon is a destructive Pokèmon, so keeping it from being too bored is a must. This can be done pretty easily though, because its intelligence enables Reuniclus to be able to watch TV, surf the internet, and even cook! Reuniclus can photosynthesize, so feeding isn’t necessary (though it is often appreciated). They bond very deeply and closely with their partners.

If you’re looking for something fluffier, try a Slakoth! Or two! Or three! Slakoth is an incredibly easy partner to care for. It sleeps 20 hours a day, and only eats about three or four leaves every day. A Slakoth would have no problem at all being left alone for extended periods of time. Even if you were there, it would probably be sleeping. The only thing with Slakoth is that they live in large groups in the wild, so it’s recommended to get at least two Slakoth. Ideally three or four, depending on how much space you have. They’ll all cuddle together for days on end, and it’s absolutely adorable! Slakoth also have an oil in their fur that induces drowsiness, so be careful to wash your hands after you pet them so you don’t fall asleep.

I hope that you find the right partner for you! Also, have you considered a small partner so you can bring it with you to your business meetings?

My personal headcanon for Ash Ketchum has always been that regardless of if his dream ever came true he'd never truly stop traveling and learning. Because despite "becoming a pokemon master" being his goal if you actually sit down and watch like Any episode of Pokemon the thing that always holds true is his curiosity and desire to learn everything he possibly can related to pokemon. And he'll try anything to! He did contests and the battle frontier. He'd do those silly little shows with Serena if they'd let him.

So I like to imagine him continuing on in life as this nomad who people don't automatically recognize as anyone important ya know? Just this goofy guy going from place to place always lending a helping hand and hes got a cute lil pikachu on him. And hes often lost somewhere with a friend just exploring the woods to see if he'll find anything cool. Ya know, as hes always been, but older now. And its only once hes drifted once more do you maybe stumble into an article on the pokeweb about him and are like... that guy??
