i found out that miguelito died a while ago. he had been adopted by our neighbors after my relatives refused to keep him indoors or take full responsibility for him even though he spent years hanging out at our house, which honestly was a good thing because they took much better care of him than we could have, he was so much happier and healthier in their catproofed house than when he was allowed outside and would often disappear for days and come back filthy and injured and starving. i would always walk past his new house when walking my dogs and id often see him hanging out in their front yard with their other cat, until i didnt see him anymore. turns out my grandma goes to the same gym as one of said neighbors so she asked him about the cat and well. little guy died. they're not sure why but the vets think he might have eaten a poisoned mouse. and at least i know he was well taken care of and the neighbors gave him a better life than we could have but damn i loved that cat so much. he spent years sneaking into our house and never letting anyone touch him, i was the first person he ever let pet him one night when i went to give him wet food and he just started rubbing against my leg, scared the shit out of me because i thought he was going to bite or slap me but he didn't lol. after that he even started sleeping in my bed sometimes. i never really got to interact with him after he got adopted and i never got to see him for a last time because i was too embarrassed to talk to the neighbors, i spent so long working up the audacity to talk to them and waiting for the perfect opportunity to ask about the cat, but i never did and now i never will 😭 i dont know how old he was when we met since he was already an adult but thank you for seven years of haunting and vexing this neighborhood my little friend
