A stomach swirling
Manic pixies chew my brain
A longing forgot
Jailed for others’ corruption
A cell shrieking my musing
A million reaches
Dragging deeper for each seek
A lightless gully
Why demise doth seem tempting?
It evades my perception

Weather Report - Heavy Weather (Review)
Tumblr media
Heavy Weather is a very commercial sounding album, in the ways of production and instruments, with a twist: it has a few synthesizers. This actually does not stop this album from feeling like the musical equivalent of a wood and leather couch in a cheap furniture store. However, there are some moments on this album where that aforementioned sound does become sort of endearing in a way, such as the atmospheric A Remark You Made and the groovy Palladium. However, several tracks on this album have chord progressions and melodies that feel as though they have zero backbone to them, which becomes irritating at times (Teen Town, Harlequin, and Havona serve as examples). Overall it’s a decent smooth jazz record to throw on in the background if you don’t really care about the music playing a whole lot.

Herbie Hancock - Mwandishi (Review)
Tumblr media
Dark, mysterious, and yet peculiarly elegant. Herbie Hancock’s 1971 record Mwandishi has a unique sound; its first two tracks have the sounds and textures of lounge jazz. However, the melodies feel a lot more sinister and nocturnal, and the rhythms are unnatural and unfamiliar. It creates an ominous sensation, the sound of a night in which something evil is preparing itself to happen, yet still retaining a degree of elegance. The third track, twenty-one minute Wandering Spirit Song, fully leans into these atmospheric and free-jazz-esque tendencies, abandoning any accessible assets from earlier and becoming entirely alien-sounding. An enjoyable and atmospheric listen overall. 90/100
