my take on why raph isnt as explosively angry like some other versions💥 (drew this to practice a style i can animate and def not to cope with the raging jealousy i feel from how clean the rottmnt storyboards are)

[id: it is three pages of drawing of April and Leo from rottmnt. The first one is two drawings of April, in the first drawing April is smirking with her hands on her hips, her hair pulled back into a single ponytail and she is wearing her outfit of the finale. Next to that, she is drawn with her arms crossed, frowning and pursing her lips. The second one is a drawing of Leo and April, Leo has his arms around April’s shoulders while April has her arms clasped around his shell and she is lifting him up. They are both smiling really wide. The last drawing is of Leo and April from rottmnt. i also think the take that leo’s post-movie character shift long term is to distance himself and ~hold himself separate~ from his brothers and treat them a little differently and train all the time etc simply Doesn’t Track btw

doing it as a major initial overcorrection bc of guilt and having to be like intervened with, i can see happening, and overall getting better at buckling down/communicating w his team for sure yeah

but like the idea that that is a change he makes to himself forever going forward (especially if it means his brothers/april not clocking it and calling him out on that nonsense, especially especially if it involves splinter noticing it and ENCOURAGING HIM to keep holding himself apart like that’s so not rise splinter at all) just does not feel right

for me it undermines the core statements that the series and movie are going for: you are not alone, we do it together, he hasn’t seen what we can do when we work together, this isn’t about you (i think this one in particular bc what is withdrawing from your loved ones and holding yourself in a different category bc Must Be Leaderly if not making things about yourself just in a different way to how you were doing it before?)

i think it’s really important that in “man vs sewer” leo was the only one to take raph’s trigger seriously and to urge everyone to look for raph before it was too late (even though in the end ofc they were all concerned) and leo being the one who knew to use the midnight special to trigger raph back out again.

if i ever write that savage raph comic i wanna touch on that detail somehow bc the writers definitely did that on purpose, especially after knowing that leo shares a similar insecurity of not wanting to be left alone without his brothers (as seen in the episode “portal jacked” where leo explicitly tells hueso he’s nothing without his brothers, and in episodes like “minotaur maze” where he says he’s useless alone)
