i just want to mention this really fast, bcs i've been getting a lot of fic requests recently (i assume because i've been a lot more consistently active the past few weeks than i have been in about a year or two, tho i'm still a bit confused because my bio does still say that im on indefinite hiatus and u have to click past that to send me an ask😭 idk) but i still really have no significant plans to start writing fic again, possibly ever !? it's something that brought me a lot of joy, and i do love to write (i actually spent my senior year writing a whole entire play, that i then directed a performance of for a play festival in my country, as well as a bunch of other stuff including a piece for a magazine in my city😁 so ive been busy lol), but to be honest i had been getting really burned out for a long time, and then a bunch of things happened in my life and i just really didn't have time, and by the time i did have time anymore the inspiration for it was just gone😭. i'm still very proud of a lot of things that i wrote, and i actually went through my Ao3 profile like six or so months ago and took about 20 or so works out of the anonymous collection so that my name would be attached to those as well, so pretty much everything i wrote from 2020-2022 is still very much available and i have 0 intention of changing that. im soooooo forever grateful to all the people that were so lovely to me while i was building my skill during that time. i know fanfic is kinda silly as a concept but like. all that writing stuff IRL that i was just talking about ?? i NEVER would have had the confidence to do that without all the feedback i spent the years leading up to it receiving. love u all, and deepest apologies to the sweet people who are still trusting me with requests for the stories they want to read, but i really don't think i'm coming back to it anytime soon<3

i hate, hate, hate mac's characterization after MFHP

mac being in denial of his sexuality meant that rcg had to show the audience he was gay through his subconcious (hell, concious) actions. but since mac came out, all they do is talk about mac being gay. he effectively stops displaying any gay behavior.

for better or for worse, iasip has always been a show that is unafraid to joke about sensitive material. and i don't know if rcg knows this, but gay people can be assholes too. gay and nice are not synonymous. and the queer community has many toxic norms that can and should be satirized. and mac definitely still has misconceived notions on what it means to be gay that he needs to unlearn and can be made fun of as he starts to engage with his community.

I understand it is difficult to write marginalized characters when you are not a part of the marginalized group yourself as you have a limited understanding of the experiences they face. and done incorrectly, you run the risk of spreading harmful stereotypes. but rcg have the opportunity to write a fully-fleshed gay character, one with faults. it's simply a matter of making sure you are punching up, not down. so for the love of god, get some queer writers in the room and start giving out mac some actually gay storylines.

also tho, why did they make mac so goddamn whiny? like he just stands there taking shit from everyone. especially dennis.

i don't think it's out of character for mac to stick around while dennis increasingly berates him, but i do think it's out of character for him not to react. where is the mac who splashes water in dennis' face in a public restaurant? or who yells at dennis when he makes a scripted joke about mac's lack of orgasms? mac is a sucker for dennis but he is not without pride.

in the gay mac dissertation, the author talks about how mac's obsession with acting badass is rooted in his internalized homophobia. mac overcompensated because was he feared that anything less would allude to his sexuality. now that mac is out, he no longer needs to uphold this shield of masculinity.

while i wholeheartedly agree with this analysis, I also think it's because mac genuinely enjoys acting badness. He likes thinking that he could protect his friends from danger. He likes practicing karate, and doing fake stunts to impress people.

there is a way keep mac the same absurd and delusional character that he was before coming out, I just don't rcg has found it yet. but for the mac's sake, i hope they do
