The startup has completed over 200 projects in Hyderabad and over 400 projects are in progress in Hyderabad and Chennai. The company says it has completed 1 million sq. ft. of built-up area as of now. According to the founder, the Wehouse platform witnesses a footfall of over 75,000 monthly visitors. In August 2022, Wehouse expanded to Chennai with the aim of accruing a built-up area of five lakh sq ft by March 2023. The startup says it has around 120 projects in the city.
Revenue Model
Construction project management contributes 50% to Wehouse’s revenue, while materials management accounts for 30% and interior design projects contribute 20%.
The startup charges Rs 1,599 per sq ft in Hyderabad and Rs 1,900 per sq ft in Chennai, depending on labour costs, material costs, and land prices. Whenever a customer selects materials via Wehouse, the startup gets a commission from the construction material company. Wehouse says it witnessed a revenue growth of 295% in FY 2019–20, 482% in FY 2020–21, and 363% in FY 2021–22. It projects a revenue of Rs 120 crore by the end of this year, at a growth of 620%.

According to GlobalData, the Indian construction market was valued at $609.6 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach an average annual growth rate of more than 6% during 2023–2026. The home construction service sector has many players such as RHUMBIX, Livspace, and HomeLane.

“Technology is pervasive today -- every company is a digital company, digital workplace.The way we deliver our work has significantly evolved that is agile and co-creation,” he said, emphasizing making life-long learning the new mantra. “Embrace change, foster skill-based organization and continue to evolve,” he added.
The digital workplace, he said, is continuing to reboot at a faster pace and change is the only constant now. President of Indian Volleyball Federation and Kandhamal MP, Dr. Achyuta Samanta has said that the future of volleyball looks promising in India. Attending the 38th Congress of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in Arnhem, Netherlands, Dr. Samanta discussed about a roadmap for substantial growth and progress of volleyball in India and especially in Odisha, and suggested some futuristic proposals for the growth of the popular game.
The FIVB Congress, the apex meet of the volleyball federations and associations in the world, was attended by representatives and volleyball federations from 222 member nations. It will continue till September 25 and have extensive deliberations on the development of volleyball across the globe. On this occasion the noted educationist proposed to create a National Volleyball Academy in collaboration of FIVB at KIIT and KISS University. He also proposed a National Nodal Centre for “Volleyball for School Programme’’ at KISS.
Dr. Samanta also requested FIVB to organise its next World Congress in Bhubaneswar and demanded to start a Regional Development Centre in Bhubaneswar in order to have refresher courses for volleyball coaches and technical officers for development of volleyball. During his stay Samanta had courtesy calls on Ary Graca, FIVB President and Director General FIVB Fabio Azevedo and the presidents of various associations and federations of 222 member nations of FIVB.

Deevyanshu Malu of KiiT International School (KIIT-IS) has made his alma mater proud by becoming the Odisha topper in the JEE Advance with All India Rank 11, the results of which were declared today. He also achieved Gold Medal in International Physics Olympiad.

Odisha’s KISS Wins Prestigious UNESCO Literacy Prize 2022
The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar has won the prestigious UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize 2022 for its outstanding literacy programme based on the recommendations of an international jury. The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize is sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Korea and recognizes contributions to mother language-based literacy development.
KISS has received the award in the category of 'Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education programme'. The award carries an endowment of US USD 20,000, a medal and a diploma. KISS is a constituent of the KIIT Group of Institutions. The award was presented at a global award ceremony organised by UNESCO in Cote d'Ivoire on 8 and 9 September 2022 to celebrate International Literacy Day.
The programme aims to tackle the challenges of poor retention of indigenous students in elementary schools due to classroom language barriers and teachers' incapacity to deal with multilingual and multicultural classrooms effectively. Every year, the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes focus on a specific theme. This year, the spotlight was on Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces. KISS is the fifth institute from India and the first from Odisha to receive this international prize. It is also the third among the non-profit NGOs and first indigenous based organisation to be conferred with this award.

KIMS Doctor Develops Easy-to-Use ‘Sanjivani’ Gadget To Save Cardiac Arrest Victims

Doctors at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) have developed a cost-effective technology that can provide prompt assistance and save a person at home suffering from cardiac arrest. The ‘Sanjivani’ hand-held gadget, as the name suggests, is a critical life-saving device. Its development assumes significance as various reports and studies have reflected a significant increase in heart attack-related deaths in recent years.
Today, approximately 85 percent of sudden cardiac arrests are being reported at home or outside the hospital, with the survival rate being less than 10 percent. The human brain suffers irreversible damage after 6 minutes of cardiac arrest in the absence of high-quality chest compressions, which means pressing the middle part of the chest at a rate of 100 per minute, and a depth of at least 5 centimeters while allowing complete chest recoil between two successive compressions.
The key to saving a person who has suffered a cardiac arrest is by applying the Cardio-Pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedure. If initiated early on, it can triple the survival rate. Poor emergency medical service, traffic congestion and the large population in India, though, pose a challenge. It’s the family members, friends or bystanders who have to initiate the call for help and provide high-quality chest compression till the arrival of emergency medical help. This is where the Sanjivani device comes as a game-changer and extremely advantageous, said Dr Ashok Kumar Badamali, Associate Professor of Cardiac Anaesthesia at KIMS.
Sanjivani is India’s first manual Cardio-Pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Assisted device and provides audio-visual instructions in regional languages about the rate, depth, and adequacy of chest recoil.
The device comes in quick aid to revive the patient by the immediate respondent without wasting precious time while waiting for ambulances. The beneficiaries will be victims of cardiac arrest of any origins like heart attack, electrocution, lightning injury, drowning, collapse due to choking/food allergy, suffocation due to fire mishap, etc, Dr Badamali said. “Human hand has more than 20 small bones in palm area making quality chest compression a difficult job for the rescuer due to 90-degree position of palm and forearm in manual chest compressions. A first responder can perform high-quality CPR till the arrival of the emergency medical team for a victim of cardiac arrest with the hand-held gadget Sanjivani, where the palm and forearm bones are in a longitudinal position,” he explained.
The innovation of the device, he said, has come in response to the suggestions received from some women during a training program in 2019 at the KIMS Hospital lobby. “You are here to guide us about the rate, depth and recoil adequacy of chest compression. Who will guide us at the time of actual exigency at our home? Can there be something, some device which will guide us like you? This unmet need of community, suggested by the ladies was perceived and led to the invention of the device,” Dr Badamali underlined.
The working prototype was made with the assistance of the NIDHI PRAYAS Grant, a program by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) that supports aspiring innovators through KIIT-TBI. The simulation testing was carried out at KIMS, a constituent of KIIT Deemed-to-be-University, Bhubaneswar. Now the department of Biotechnology has sanctioned its highest flagship Grant known as the “Biotechnology Ignition Grant” of 50 Lakh to Dr Badamali for developing the Sanjivani Ecosystem to connect event sites with hospitals, and ambulance seamlessly. This product will automate the hospital Code blue response too without creating chaos. A team of experts from various IIT, IIM, and established business consultants approved the project after multiple scrutinies.
The innovation has been appreciated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during the inauguration of the start-up building O-Hub in Bhubaneswar. The gadget was also appreciated by the head of medical innovation, WHO, Geneva Mrs Louise Agarsnap on World Health Day on April 7 during the inauguration of the first global WHO Medical Innovation Collaboration Centre at Visakhapatnam.
Dr Badamali was also felicitated early this month as one of the 12 finalists from among 6,700 participants of the TATA-IIM Kolkata Social Innovation Challenge 2021-22 at IIM Kolkata.

NABET Rankings: KIIT Polytechnic Adjudged Odisha’s Best
KIIT Polytechnic has been ranked as the best polytechnic in Odisha among all the state and private-run polytechnics by National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), a constituent Board of Quality Council of India (QCI). The results were declared today.
This is the first time that the rankings of the polytechnics in Odisha were carried out. The exercise came against the backdrop of the State Government’s enhanced focus on improving quality of technical institutes and identifying the best ones that adhere to quality teaching. The rankings were carried out by NABET-QCI and State Council for Vocational Education and Training.
The announcement was met with jubilation by the students, teachers and staff of KIIT Polytechnic. KIIT Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta lauded the efforts of KIIT Polytechnic Principal, Dr Tanmay Mohanty, the teachers and staff, saying, the ranking was a big achievement as the institute was adjudged best among all government and private Polytechnics. He especially extended his greeting to the students for the success.
KIIT Polytechnic was established in 1995 and is widely acknowledged for its high-quality technical education. This year, about 40 recruiters visited KIIT Polytechnic and offered 260 placements to the final year students at salaries ranging from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh per annum.

World Lung Cancer Day-2022 New-Age Research To Bring New Hope In Lung Cancer, Says Director KIMS Cancer Centre
New developments in lung cancer research with genetic testing, stereotactic body radiotherapy, linking targeted cancer drug delivery mechanism and immunotherapy could lead to more survival and recovery for the patients suffering from lung cancer, says renowned oncologist and Director at newly-inaugurated KIMS Cancer Center, Prof. Bidhu Kalyan Mohanti.
Speaking on the disease progression, detection and the trend on the occasion of World Lung Cancer Day, 2022, Prof Mohanti, who is heading the ultra-modern centre for cancer care under city-based Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), said ``Overall lung cancer now ranks within the top five cancers in Odisha as it comes in the rank of five followed by stomach, mouth, breast and cervical cancers. However, in males, while stomach and mouth come in the top two ranks, lungs cancer comes the close third.’’
The renowned oncologist, who has long years of experience in the cancer management while serving at AIIMS Delhi and top Indian oncology centres and had also served as an expert for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, Austria and European Commission’s Health-Cancer area activities, Brussels, Belgium however, said ``there is no population-based cancer registry in Odisha to know exactly how many are suffering from what type of cancers in the state. However, now the Government of Odisha has started the move to make it happen so that we can get a correct picture of the cancer burden and cancer types in near future.’’ Prof. Mohanti, who is also a founding member of Indian Association of Palliative Care, said the lung cancer mainly affects persons with an age of 50 years plus (in 80 percent cases).
Lung cancer is mainly caused by smoking activity, tobacco chewing and occupational hazards like chemicals, environmental pollution and genetic factors which combine fly influence the disease progression. He,however, added that ``all these combined take several years to develop the disease the reason for which it is commonly diagnosed at 50 years or higher in a person.’’
However, in the Western population, as per Prof. Mohanti, the lung cancer cases are rising in non-smokers and non- tobacco users and it has become a concern which could, perhaps, be linked to pollution,genetic and other lifestyle external factors. On the survival of the lung cancer patients, he however, informed that relating to other cancer patients like mouth, breast and cervix the survival rate is very less and 50 percent of the lung cancer patients die within the first year of their diagnosis. Providing the reason for it, the expert said ``our 70 to 80 percent lung cancer patients are detected very late and the diagnosis is done either at advanced Stage-III or Stage-IV. However, if someone is diagnosed very early then survival rate might be within 60 to 70 percent.’’
Specifying the Stages in lung cancer, he, however, added that if a detection is done in Stage-III the survival could be 30 percent and during Stage-IV could be of 5 percent or even less. As per the treatment modality while in early stage the treatment process would involve surgery and radio therapy, during a later phase it could be of chemotherapy and radio therapy. However, in some advanced stage despite the chemo and radio therapy if there is no substantial improvement or the patient needs support for a daily living, then palliative care (scientific pain and symptom management) becomes the choice of medical care.
Regarding some general symptoms of the lung cancer the expert said breathing difficulties, weight loss, fever and pain in chest for a quite longer time of few weeks or months might give some doubt and the person concerned must go for the tests so that an early detection of lung cancer might help in a healthy survival. However, these patients need to have consultations with adequately trained chest physicians and cancer experts for special care and attention.
