Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (its trans)
So I've finally hit a point where I feel like I can breathe again which means its time to get back into my backlog made majorly of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games. Admittedly the moment I get into the DS era and beyond, I get overwhelmed by all the mechanics but I spent....a dumb amount of money on these games and I have to push myself to try. Between Trio of Towns and A New Beginning, I chose ANB for two reasons; 1.It might be simpler to jump into 2.You can back door hack yourself into being gay....kinda.
You see the thing is you still can only date hetrosexually BUT you can just change your character to basically look completely like a girl. Trans rights??? Except you'll get misgendered all the time...unless this is a transmasc story instead for the fuckers like me that like to be he/him'd while in full femme mode. Either way, time to romance Yuri!
So admittedly this is a little bit mixed of a guide slash person road map, I am using a Fogu guide but that doesn't necessarily make it easy. So, I'm only on spring 14 but here's what to know thus far:
The game is as handholdy as ACNL/NH and will slowly dole out mechanics over thankfully in game days. Only worry about mechanics as they come.
You will spend per usual a good part of the start will be foraging. Sell the bugs but save flowers/herbs/mushrooms. You will need moon drops for the start of the town restoration. Also save Honey Bees for the second part of it too. Blue flowers are for Emma to befriend her. Hold onto all logs and stones for when Iroha comes.
Talk to all villagers to increase friendship, show them an animal as well but be careful of preferences. Most villager friendship is required to progress to more stores/upgrades.
When you unlock crops, only buy two things of grass. You are given all you need for most of your farm already. Plant and water the grass in the barn area so you'll have fodder in time for the free cow you get a few days later.
Work on shipping tons of potatoes in spring, this will be a headstart for Town Restoration #4 where you need to ship 30 of them.
Events Process: You arrive>>You unlock crops>>Neil arrives and gives you a cow>>Iroha arrives and gives you an Axe and Hammer>> Rebecca arrives and needs house help which unlocks blueprints>> Town Restoration #1>> Town Restoration #2>> Town Restoration #3 start>> Tailor Shop Blue print should unlock if you befriended Emma enough.
Yuri also seems extremely easy to woo honestly, her special like is one of the early recipes which is also important to eat regularly. In general I just love her and its a crime she can't be romanced same sexly but its okay because again, we are transing ourselves which she and Allen will help with. Wow! What a little gay gender affirming circle that is lmao.
The goal is to get Yuri in my town by early to mid fall, the biggest road block is during restoration 2 you need to ship 10 honey which will take 6 days to make so the more hives the better from the start. Clearing out the farm during summer is imperative. Hives are made out of small lumber and honey combs which is why collecting as much as possible is important (and collecting bees for them too!).
After Yuri is unlocked, the only goals are to raise a lot of sheep for wool. hatch 10 chicks, and get one yak when the chance is given. Side goals include birthing three Cows, sheep, and Alpaca during my second year. Most of Restoration 3 and beyond involves mining and wool so I expect to spend winter doing a lot of digging while also being aware that I'll probably not complete the storyline until at least late into year 2. There's more focus on festivals in the final two restorations as well as a lot of odd gems.
Post main plot is for clothing, house decoration, and child rearing. Emma, Neil, Olivia, Sanjay, and the travel location people are important towards gift exchanges. Outfits will just unlock as I go thanks to Yuri. I might also do a split save before marrying Yuri simply because Witch Princess is always kinda cool but is so late game that having to rebuild everything to marry her might honestly kill me.
It seems partially ridiculous to be so early in the game and to be writing so much already but its one of those series where you need a huge planning stage before you even start anything. To which I find fun the preplan. Admittedly also because the current game play is so repetitive; Watering and animal care in the morning, chasing after Emma for her daily gift, and then wrapping around foraging a couple of times before the night watering. It doesn't help either that there is no quality of life improvements as you go, apparently not even power berries this time.
The path to repairing a town is kind of a fun mechanic to be real; ACNH widely disappointed me for not really being the civilization maker it promised, Hometown story is interesting for a similar was in how it runs, Pioneers of Olive Town sometimes is the perfect amount of town rebuilder, and of course the ever popular stardew valley is great for slowly building up additions to an already pretty sound townspace, and I yearn for easier access to Animal Parade for how lovely the area is even if a bit of a travelling nightmare at points. I don't expect ANB to be revolutionary necessarily but I'm excited to GET to the point where I can suddenly dish out a bunch of town support. It's kind of cool how there's barely love interests as well because of it.

Genuinely I have never been the same when it sunk in how media and spaces you love on the internet can just disappear without a trace.
Okay so I happened to thrift an Iphone 4, supper excited and happy about that. It's in box and not scratched which was crazy but now the goal is to protect it from getting scratched. No problem! There was like a million kawaii accessories made for the iphone at that time and I'd love to own one of the rilakkuma screen protector combos from around that time period. Oh crap why is google images so useless? That's okay, I'm pretty certain examples appeared in a deerstalkers video that I can use a reference to make a more specific search. Oops I'm watching the milkyfawn room tour. Oh fuck wait I kinda love that artist's work that she's friends with.....Why can't I find this person.
Anyway if anyone knows the artist Aurelia or however it's truely spelt lemme know pls.

Speaking my truth: Makoto Shinkai is mega mid
This feeling has been eating at me for a while now but all of Makoto Shinkai’s appeal is very gone. While he pioneered a new standard in the industry, that bar is now on par with him and every movie he produces makes it more evident that his works have nothing else to stand on.
From my personal experience with the guy, Garden of Words was this technical marvel of animated coloring that got a lot of good will because it was evident where the focus was in its creation. However with each bigger and even more heavily product placed iteration, it becomes increasingly annoying the very predictable plot of a black haired, sheltered, awkward but spunky girl will inexplicably fall in love with a guy that she has no chemistry with and he is given all the agency while they work together on an ecological disaster. In general you can boil down a Shinkai work to a stiff and dry relationship between a guy and a girl that is hammed up for unearned levels of drama.
I will at least give the credit that with Suzume, the strongest character element is young Suzume in a panicked ptsd forming shock from loosing her mother to the 2011 Earthquake Tsunami. None the less I feel the squick that yes, the adult turned into a chair did in fact come to fall in love with a 16 year old…..he’s a teacher in training by the way.
What grinds me the most with Shinkai pieces really is how poorly he handles female characters. With Garden of Words, the was a slight pass in the once again, Adult Woman’s relationship to one of her male students because she was meant to be judged for that behavior, she was not aspirational. She was an adult skipping her job and being childish as a reflection of the guy lead’s childishness of skipping school to live in his own world. They don’t end the story happily after that, it’s a fucked up goodbye. She is also not the lead character like how most of the girls are presented.
Maybe the most that fucked me over with this is the idea a well adjusted 40 year old woman would look at her adopted daughter going through a clearly hard point and say “You ruined my chance to get married because I was forced to parent you, get out of my life.” It’s not that no character would say this but this character had previously never shown to be someone who would say that. If anything it sounds like what a dude who grew up in a society where a woman is defined by getting married would think a single 40ish year old woman would express. “But she was possessed!” I don’t care! A halfway of that would have sufficed. She never showed targeted resentment at Suzume before, there are certainly plenty of other ways a possessed adult would have expressed “You’re ungrateful!” That would have equally hurt.
There’s always moments like this in these movies for me, the casual way your name’s guy character is completely allowed to grope the girl while in her body, the way the body swap enforces gender roles that he doesn’t express in his own body, the way the girl’s agency is cut off half way through the story, the way they decided a 24 year old woman would agree to go on a date with a 17 year old! I remember Weathering You being not much better but honestly it was so uninteresting that all I can remember is the side female character who was just one constant sexual joke and basically an inferior Misato. More so the main girl just feels like a blank slate of good will till it’s time for her to disappear dramatically. And even though I’ve already mentioned the Aunt in Suzume, it needs to be said that Suzume’s dedication to the guy feels unwarranted. She isn’t ditzy in a way I’d expect her to rush after a guy and he isn’t charming in a way that I’d believe her to chase after him for. Simply smiling a little more and being inviting would have been at least some form of belief she would do this. I would believe the first girl Suzume meets would do that for instance. For all the focus on relationships it just rings hollow.
I give his early works space because they were shorter projects and I give Garden of Words space because it is meant to be toxic even though again I now question the adult’s side of this. However Your Name montaged the build up of the couples relationship and so did Weathering With You. YN ML is frankly a creep and WWY ML is the definition of a boy and yes I’m ignoring he is young to begin with. WWY is pretty much just every character acting the least like human beings while also failing to make it comedic enough to make you forget that. I find nothing likable about their dynamic at all to even understand why they fall in love. And finally again, Suzume present two wood planks that don’t bond over anything, don’t joke with each other, or build up any understanding of each other before Suzume is catatonic and muttering his name. The aunt and the college friend genuinely had more chemistry.
And it is not a Japanese social difference. I feel like it’s been a while since I felt really connected to an anime movie but take Promare for instance. While I still feel Promare’s story is weak in a lot of ways, I believe in the care Galo develops for Lio. Lines about how Galo is noticing Lio is crying, the spark Lio tosses at Galo show some element of connection and dynamic lost in Suzume. Look at Okko’s Inn which has Okko bond with multiple ghosts from her family in that makes it hurt when they disappear from her. Uribo alone invokes that belief not only that he will mean something to Okko within his introductory scene but how his relationship to her grandmother would have been strong enough to tie him to her family. Ride your wave is another example that does the montage relationship right and it’s in part from how familiar it shows the two characters with each other. Any given moment from the first part of the movie shows you how compatible they are because they’re open to being vulnerable and a little silly. Simply enjoying each other’s company openly in a way often I feel gets ignored in Shinkai works.

I dreamt a weird dream this morning.
I failed a test spectacularly and loudly for the way I tried to interpret it, the first part was an undefined physical thing we had to do in the classroom and I remember breaking things like desks and causing friction with others , at the end I tried bringing a table so a desk that couldn’t be repaired, it was going to be awkward to sit at but it was something but before I could the teacher told me not to because I had done everything absolutely wrong, there was still a written part and I couldn’t focus from how upset I was from earlier, I had to travel several hours for a low level job interview that was at the end of my time living in an apartment, I dressed medieval with some people and a theatre troupe saw us outside and mingled with us, a younger guy from the group showed me how he was having his friend write his deadlifting records each week on his arm in pretty writing and how proud he was how his friend’s artistic ability had grown over time, I went home and went into the bathroom to grab something despite them showering in it to test the boundaries, when I went to go change a group of guy had been viewing it from my window which was now theater screen size, I tried to embarrass them back to hide my discomfort, and in the other room my FP was watching the sky from their own window and when I came in, they met me and held me in a reassuring way they never hugged me in reality. In my mind I knew the whole time I wanted to tell them that I liked them like I hadn’t done when I had the chances years ago now. It sucks sometimes to know how I don’t need them to love me back romantically but I wish they had loved me enough to hug me like they did in my dream.

The production studio at "Baby, the Stars Shine Bright" featured in an episode of Tokyo Fashion Express. Their designs typically require up to 50 sewing patterns, which is about 5 times as many as the average dress. Detailed notes on measurements and specifications are written for the sewing factory.

The sewing factory is in Ibaraki prefecture. For more than 20 years they've been sewing clothes exclusively for BTSSB. 17 people work there, most of them being veterans age 60 or over. Due to the complexity they work in teams for ironing, sewing lace and ribbons, as well as completing gathers and frills.

The manager of the factory, Sumiko Watahiki, says in an interview: "There's tons of gather, lace, and layering, which requires a lot of sewing. At first, I doubted I could do it! It was that hard. (But) I'm always impressed with the adorable designs when I see the finished products or while I work."
