The Mentalist Themed Rewatch 2017/2018
Ok, people, it’s happening. The Twitter conversations have come to fruition and we are happy to announce that we’ve come up with “The Mentalist Themed Rewatch”. Here is the program:
The rewatch will start with The Pilot on September 23rd, the day of its 9th Anniversary.
From there, we go through 11 themes, running weekly over the course of a month. The last episode of each theme will be tied (in one way or another) to the first episode of the following theme.
The first theme following The Pilot will be “Revenge”, which was originally the fundamental theme of the show, and the final theme will be “Life and Love” which ended up becoming the other fundamental theme of the show.
Here are the themes and respective months:
23rd September: Pilot
October: Revenge
November/December: Villains and Con Artists
January: Psychics
February: Directed by Simon Baker
March: Liaisons
April: Undercover
May: Family
June: Jane’s past
July: Written by Bruno Heller
August: Team
September: Life and Love
(not coincidentaly, the rewatch will end around a week before the 10th anniversary of The Pilot)
As for the day and time, we thought it was most practical to keep the schedule of the previous rewatch: Tuesdays, 5:00pm EST USA.

It's a good thing Jane's plan was found out by Lisbon which was the needed catalyst to enable her angry words to him and got him thinking on the path to canonville. However, I wonder what his original plan was, was he going to try a seduce her over a meal? Glad they became canon, not sorry that he used what he's good at, setting up things, he was only doing what he thought was his last chance to keep Lisbon in Austin. It still was all her own choice, she chose Jane after all.
I agree with everything you said, Anon. And I have also asked myself what his original plan really was or rather where he wanted it to lead… he did what he thought to be the right thing to convince Lisbon to stay in a showy way, the nice car, the beach, the beautiful location, the dresses - all in the name of showing her without having to surrender. He actually put together a scenario that combined many crucial moments in their relationship: the Cadillac as a tribute to the time he borrowed Mashburn’s car and took her out for a nice dinner; the beach for that beach sunset scene in which - even if he left her afterwards - he was as close to honest about his feelings as he could be at the time; the dresses in remembrance of their undercover time as a couple, the letter and forged code to show her the great team they make;then the dinner as a continuation of the one they shared in Il Tavolo Bianco. The question is: Was he trying to seduce her? Would he’ve made a romantic declaration at some point? Or was he just wanting to give her “plantonic” reasons to stay? We’ll probably never know…
That scheme, it was Jane through and through. But the plane scene was also Jane through and through and it’s been so nice to see out in the open what we’ve always known was underneath all his masks: a very vulnerable, scared, insecure, beautiful, and precious human being with a big but damaged heart.
And it was great that the plane scene gave both characters the chance to decide. He didn’t pressure her at all. He made the most selfless confession possible. And he gave her all the information she needed to make a well-informed decision. He’s shown her with every word that he’s ready for a true relationship. And this could only lead to one decision from her - to get off that plane and be happy and make someone else happy too.
(and P will understand. It won’t be worse to get over than his favorite sports team losing a match anyway…)

2 things about Blue Bird
shocking moment #1: Lisbon throwing the glass of water at Jane was a real deal and not part of a ruse (although Abbott’s face at that exact moment was priceless. Did you see that face? hahaha)
shocking moment #2: Cho wasn’t a jisbon shipper after all.. And not only that; but he didn’t even have a clue! (although Abbott trying to make him see -with no luck- was so funny..)
