Jouno: “… Former Mafia executive, Osamu Dazai. On 138 charges of aiding and abetting in m*rders, 312 threat cases, and 625 instances of fraud and other crimes, I hereby place you under arrest.”

Dazai stood there shocked, completely blown away at having his lifetime of crimes thrown back in his face, when suddenly an irritatingly familiar voice piped up behind him…

Chuuya: “Oi, are ya blind and deaf?”

Jouno: “Excuse me current Mafia executive, Nakahara Chuuya, these are private matters–“

Chuuya: “Where’s his destruction of private property charge?!”

Jouno: “… It’s in with the aforementioned ‘other charges’ category–“

Chuuya: “Oh, so this bandages-for-brains’ crime of blowin’ up my car when he left the Port Mafia isn’t important enough to mention?”

Jouno: “Why is that your conclusion–“

Chuuya: “How would you like it if I blew up your car, hm? Would you enjoy losin’ such a precious and, mind you, expensive asset?”

Jouno: “… I’m blind and can’t legally drive even if I wanted to, but–“

Chuuya: “But nothin’! You let this lanky b*stard get away with everything! No one ever wants to defend poor Chuuya!”

Jouno: “… I’m actively arresting him–“

Chuuya: “Forget it, enjoy your time in prison Dazai! Just know your list of crimes should be a bit more thorough than what this guy is suggestin’!”

Where a rare peaceful morning at the Armed Detective Agency has been interrupted by the members’ normal antics…

Dazai: *sobbing* “ATSUSHI! I-IT’S TERRIBLE! It’s so so so terrible!”

Atsushi: “W-w-what? Uh, what’s going on?! Did something happen?!”

Dazai: “The worst thing imaginable has happened! I can’t believe the day has finally come!”

Kunikida: “Quit your whining! It was quiet in here for once before your loud mouth arrived! What, did another innocent woman reject your horrific proposition?”

Dazai: “It’s worse! I’ve– I’ve been out-goofied!”

Silence permeated the room as Atsushi and Kunikida stared at a crying Dazai. Finally, the non-sobbing pair spoke…

Atsushi and Kunikida: “… What.”

Dazai: “Exactly! What, how, who?!”

Atsushi: “Why does it matter–“

Dazai: “He had such a goofy attitude! His facial expressions were so exaggerated, his voice was fluctuating perfectly, h-he was even wearing a clown costume! He was in uniform!”

Atsushi: “Um, Dazai, don’t you think you’re overreacting?”

Dazai’s tear-filled eyes stared at Atsushi in shock, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing…

Dazai: “So not only was I out-goofied, but now you guys thing I’m being too goofy when I try to regain my title! Oh the agony!”

Atsushi spent the rest of the day half-heartedly comforting Dazai, mainly because he missed the peace and quiet too, while Kunikida wore sound-proof headphones and resisted giving Dazai a real reason to cry…

*The clown in question may or may not have had white hair with a braid, a fancy hat, a white suit, stripped pants, and a card over one of his eyes…

Ranpo is the most selfless character in BSD

By his own admission, he’s “always known all along: ordinary people can’t defeat Gifted,” but he continues to put on a confident, no-worries front for the sake of his friends

He believes his friends (he calls them coworkers, but we know) think he’s invincible and he doesn’t want to disrupt that belief, even against all odds

My question is, I wonder if he knows his friends know he’s not Gifted– that they have confidence in his genuinely genius self, not his supposed ability

Ranpo is the weirdest character in BSD

He’s arguably the smartest character in BSD (tied with Fyodor), has detective skills he’s put little to no effort in training himself to have (he’s just built different), and can calculate scenarios down to the exact second(s)…

While all of this seems quite normal in a world with supernatural abilities, HE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE AN ABILITY. HE IS A PURE, HONEST GENIUS IN A WORLD OF SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL HELP OF ANY KIND.

Sure, Atsushi can turn into tiger, but can he accurately estimate the exact amount of seconds it would take for a person to arrive at an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere???

HE’S WEIRD. RANPO IS (LOVABLY) WEIRD.

How old is Fyodor?

❗️This post contains spoilers for BSD s4 ep. 3❗️

Fyodor’s age has always been an enigma to the BSD fandom ever since he was first introduced, but his surprise appearance at the end of the third episode of season 4 was quite bizarre

For the few seconds we saw him, he didn’t look significantly if at all younger than his current self (he’s the same height, with the same hair, heck, even wearing the same outfit)

My original assumption was he’s in his 30s, but considering he looked the same 13 years ago from the present day plot, is he actually much older?

To theorize a bit, is there a slim chance he actually doesn’t age and that’s why he looks the same? Is he from the Book, just like Sigma? Is that why he considers himself a worthy judge of humanity to be able to decide to erase all ability users, because he isn’t actually human?

Fyodor’s past is a complete mystery, but even for someone like him to look the exact same for 13 years is weird, and I have to wonder if there’s some connection between him maybe being from the Book and thus him not aging

Alternatively, he might just age really well lol

Where Kunikida is (unsurprisingly) very particular about seasonal celebrations…

Atsushi: “Um, Dazai?”

Dazai: “Good morning, Atsushi~! What’s up?”

Atsushi: “Did you– uh, did you do something to upset Kunikida already?”

Dazai: “Hm, yesterday I told him he should only use crayons from now on because the fumes from pen ink and pencil lead is slowly k!lling him and he was very mad when I told him that was a lie. I also moved everything on his desk inch to the left and he couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Oh! I also–“

Atsushi: “I-I mean, did you do anything today?”

Dazai: “Not yet, why?”

Atsushi: “He’s practically vibrating with rage as his desk, but I need to ask him a question…”

Dazai: “Well let’s go see!”

Dazai happily walked over to Kunikida’s desk as Atsushi cautiously followed, knowing how the two usually are when they interact…

Dazai: “Kunikida~! You’re frightening Atsushi with that scary look on your face! What’s wrong?”

Atsushi: “D-Dazai?!”

Kunikida: *mumbling* “… It’s not Decemeber anymore… but they still have…”

Dazai: “What was that? You’re being awfully quiet~”

Kunikida: *mumbling* “… It’s already the middle of January… what are they thinking…”

Dazai: “I. Can’t. Hear. You~!”

Kunikida: “Why do… WHY DO THESE FOOLS STILL HAVE THEIR C-WORD DECORATIONS UP IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY?!”

Dazai: “Ah, so that’s what this is all about. It’s nothing any of us could’ve stopped, Atsushi. He’s upset people still haven’t taken their Christmas decorations down.”

Kunikida: “ARE THEY BLIND?! DO THEY NOT KNOW WHAT MONTH IT IS?! Half of the first week of January, sure, you might be busy still, BUT IT’S BEEN THREE WEEKS SINCE C-WORD!”

Dazai: “We better just leave him alone. Come on, Atsushi, let’s go walk around Yokohama and look at the Christmas decorations they set up months ago.”

Kunikida: “AGHHHHH!”

Ranpo takes a moment to ponder his answer. Digging deep into his past all those years ago when he was only 14 years old…

Ranpo: “He likes cats.”

Atsushi: “Uh, that’s cool, but how is that–“

Ranpo: “So I simply acted like a clingy cat he felt compelled to adopt! I was far too cute, interesting, and smart for him to dare consider leaving me behind!”

Every season of BSD thus far starts out with exploring the origins of power duos in the series

Season 1 showed how Atsushi and Akutagawa met (although they weren’t a power duo until later seasons)

Season 2 showed how Dazai and Odasaku met (although they were more of an emotional power duo and shared a close bond)

Season 3 showed how Dazai and Chuuya met (and how well they fought as a pair)

Season 4 is showing how Ranpo and Fukuzawa met (the pillars of the Armed Detective Agency)

How do BSD characters know the “names” of their abilities?

These self-proclaimed titles are somewhat enforced in the world of abilities as other characters refer to said abilities by their name, but how do BSD characters know the name?

Is it something they decide themself or does it come to them in a fever dream the moment they acknowledge their ability?

Dazai: “I don’t know, ask Akutagawa– he wrote it.”

Chuuya: *yelling across the room* “Oi Akutagawa! What did you write– hey wait a minute, why did you even write his report?!”

Akutagawa: “Dazai blessed me by having enough faith in my writing skills to give me the important task of writing his report.”

Chuuya: “That’s your logic?! Oi Dazai, don’t you try to run off on me– Get back here!”

I’d like to imagine Atsushi’s cat-like tendencies during Christmas time are invisible to everyone else, but an internal struggle for him

He spends the entire time decorating the tree resisting the urge to swat at the bulbs, chase the tinsel, and most importantly, crawl up the tree

The Secret Santa Gift Exchange

Chuuya and Kunikida collectively came up with the idea to do Secret Santa amongst a small group of their peers and this is how it went…

Atsushi Nakajima

Everything is nerve-wracking for Atsushi and pulling Akutagawa’s name was not an exception as he was terrified to be his Secret Santa

For this year’s Secret Santa, Atsushi gifted Akutagawa a large assortment of flavors from his favorite tea brand– one of the few things Chuuya could tell him Akutagawa liked when he asked about his interests

Dazai Osamu

Dazai considers himself a master gift-giver, but was admittedly stumped when he pulled Kunikida’s name… How can you be a Secret Santa for the guy who’s bought everything he’s prepared to want?

For this year’s Secret Santa, Dazai bought him all-new fishing gear. Although he knew Kunikida already had plenty of spares, he’d figure he’d add to his collection and Kunikida was quite grateful for the new additions.

Kunikida Doppo

Kunikida was absolutely joyous he pulled his close friend Chuuya to buy presents for– being his Secret Santa just felt right

For this year’s Secret Santa, Kunikida gifted Chuuya a basket of some of the finest wine you could find in Yokohama… and bought him a Christmas-themed hat similar to his normal one

Akutagawa Ryunosuke

The mix of dread and excitement when Akutagawa pulled Dazai’s name was intense– he wanted to impress Dazai, but he was terrified he would let him down… Being his Secret Santa was both smile-inducing and stress-inducing

For this year’s Secret Santa, Akutagawa gifted Dazai a library’s-worth amount of books based on that because he knows how much he adores constantly rereading that book

Chuuya Nakahara

Chuuya, or Mr. Chuuya according to Atsushi, knew the kid hadn’t had enough happy Christmases throughout his life and was more than excited to be his Secret Santa

For this year’s Secret Santa, Chuuya went all out and gifted Atsushi a basket of sweets, some fluffy blankets, new winter clothes, and a ~fancy~ assortment of holiday-themed ties he could wear throughout the year for each holiday. Finally, Chuuya gave Atsushi homemade chazuke, which accidentally caused Atsushi to start crying out of gratefulness.

Some of these headcanons are based off of previous series/posts of mine (ex. I made Chuuya and Kunikida bond over a dislike of Dazai during my summer series Bungou Stray Dog Days and have regularly made Atsushi refer to Chuuya as “Mr. Chuuya” in my other posts)
