All my lovely super-talented colleagues from Big Hero 6 are sharing their sexy paintings and glamorous linework, so I thought I’d leap on the bandwagon like a socially awkward Quasimodo and wave my hair diagrams around.  These were done for most of the main characters so their hair could be built in 3D in a way that would behave realistically when put through the simulation process. Each clump of hair needed to be placed and plotted so the layers built up in a way that reflected Shiyoon’s designs. It was a challenge but kinda fun for all that … I won’t get to see how it turned out until January, when the film comes out in the UK, but I hear people like it, so that’s good.

And now the men’s catalogue – further crowd library work for Big Hero 6.  Men don’t get to do as much fun stuff with their hair as women do, but they have two canvases. I’m particularly pleased with my modular beard idea.

"Bieber" was on the list I got; I balanced it by slipping in a "Captain Aubry."

One of my other jobs on BH6 was to stock the library of hairstyles for crowd people.  Here’s a sampling of ladies’ styles, dropped on the generic head.

I got some Derwent inktense blocks recently. This is my first time using them. I think I like them! I'm thinking about putting a lake in that big empty area and playing with the sunset more. In theory I can add more layers tomorrow once it's all dry. I bet these would be really fun with haunted mansion art.

While watching World War Z, I wondered what (enough Ws, sorry)… I drew some zombies. She was bitten and dislocated her shoulder and lost her arm whilst trying to escape.

I figured they’d be pretty emaciated, although since their clothes still fit, they were apparently thin to begin with. I am still not fully comfortable with fabric behavior so fitted clothes were necessary. I didn’t have any source images on these two. The fellow in the middle is the CIA guy from the jail cell. It doesn’t really look like him, but I nailed sad/worried, I think. Men are still unfamiliar territory to my pencil.

I've been drawing lately.

The hulk drawing is a set. I started with Bruce and replaced him with the hulk. Hulk has no hands because that's where the letters for guessing go. Why draw hands if nobody will see them? I like animating my drawings. It’s fun :)

Life has been such a whirlwind lately. Not too much time for drawing... Luckily draw something is really quick! Fingerpainting on a tiny screen is a fun challenge.

Latest drawing. Hopefully it won't join the stack of unfinished pieces. It's coming along nicely but still needs a lot of work. The best part is that this one isn't a reproduction! It's completely original. Now to make that giant orange ball look like a harvest moon instead of a sun...

I drew Gus awhile back… Here’s Skyler. Not sure if it convincingly looks like her but it’s something. She looks so damn young.

Got bored waiting for my driver’s orientation class so I speed-doodled the soldier sitting across the room. I was a wee bit generous with his hair.

The whole drawing took about 15 minutes.

Today I drew something terrifying.

My first attempt (bottom left) just wasn’t quite right. Gus actually looks kinda sad instead of frighteningly murderous, as he usually does. Since we can’t have that I decided to try again, this time with better results. This is the first time that I’ve drawn a real person and the end product looked like my model. I think this is a good step for me! I’ve been drawing the exact same style (mostly) for half my life. I didn’t think I was capable of anything different. I can’t tell if the shading came through on the picture, but it’s there. Please excuse me while I burst with pride for a brief moment. Yay!

Have you seen Dead Alive (also known as Braindead)? This is Uncle Les, a super-creepy rockabilly guy. He kinda looks like Unknown Hinson up there to the right… I don’t draw men too often so this was way outside my comfort zone.

Lol. Post a message thanking followers for following; lose one. Oh well. I suspect that the haunted mansion fans got bored and took off. I still have more mansion art to draw, I just can't really do it with a broken desk.

This took me several hours and the light changed as I worked on it. I’m not used to lighting being important. 3-D object number two, my fancy pink love seat. (We call it the porn couch.)
