Darling Hook fanfic: A window standing open by Unusualpairings
“What is this?” Wendy whispered softly, feeling bold as she let her forefinger come to rest on the warm skin of Hook’s upper arm. Below her finger lay a large and familiar tattoo of a crest she knew of well.
“Why, my uncle went to school there!” Wendy said in outright shock, her eyes searching the Captain’s, and her hand still upon his muscled arm. “You were a student of Eton College?”
Hook’s face blanched at this and he pulled back from her, covering his arm the best he could, pulling on his shirt quickly, making sure his eyes did not trail to where she sat. Wendy watched as the pale blue eyes of her captor went into a frenzy of panic before clouding in doubt. It was right then; Wendy knew that there was a past to James Hook, a past that he desperately wanted hidden.
“I don’t exactly remember.” Hook said almost dazed, “it comes and goes.”
“Don’t lie.” Wendy urged, her eyes twinkling in curiosity. “Please, tell me the truth.”
The two of them looked to one another, their eyes locked as they both stood their ground. They were both flushed, and Wendy’s lips were reddened and swelling from the kisses Hook had taken from her moments beforehand.
“Yes,” Hook finally relented firmly. “I attended Eton. It was the finest school in all of London, and my parents were insistent that I graduate from there, just as my father had, and his father before that. It was tradition for the men in my family, and they do bear the same crest upon their shoulder.”
“Go on,” said Wendy encouragingly, almost in awe at the fact that she was uncovering the secret to Hook’s past. It was as if he was transforming right before her, turning into a real flesh and blood man instead of the childhood nemesis she told stories of.
“I graduated with highest honors, and was offered many teaching positions. But I didn’t wish to end up as some aged old professor that my peers and I had before taken great joy in mocking. I could not,” at this Hook’s eyes searched Wendy’s. “You see, I did not wish to grow up for good.”

Sea Dreams
Captain James Hook x female reader
summary: The reader finds herself aboard a pirate ship, while searching for the children she cares for.
a/n: So at some point I was really into Jason Isaac’s Captain Hook and I started this fic series, even though I lost interest, I think I had a good start. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
You backed away as the pirates started closing in on you. You found yourself completely surrounded in just a matter of moments. Your back hit the mast of the ship as a dark haired man dressed in red attire emerged from the captain’s quarters. With just his presence on the deck, a silence fell over the entire ship.
The mighty fuss his men had been making had drawn him out, he was no longer able to ignore the commotion and focus on his plans.
He held his hands behind his back as he gracefully strode across the quarter deck and down the steps.
The crew of the ship immediately stepped aside, granting him a clear passage directly towards you, the cause of all the ruckus. His blue eyes gleamed with intrigue as he gaze fell upon you.
“What do we have here, Mr.Smee?” He drawled, his eyes unwavering as they studied your face.
The shorter man beside him answered, “Appears to be a stowaway, Captain.”
“Ah,” the man removed his hat, handing it to Mr. Smee, his dark long curls framed his face, making his pale skin more striking and the sharp angles of his features more prominent.
He leaned forward, his face just mere inches from yours. The Captain took his time admiring you, already bewitched by your radiance and falling under your spell just by the sight of you.
You shifted on your bare feet and your arms wrapped around your chest. The thin material of your nightdress didn’t provide much warmth, not that you were expecting to find yourself on a ship in the middle of the night.
“She’s far too lovely to be just a stowaway, wouldn’t you agree Mr. Smee?” He mused.
Mr. Smee paused, before eagerly agreeing with the Captain, “Yes, sir, a real beauty she is.”
You inhaled sharply as the Captain raised his right arm, revealing that his right hand was gone and had been replaced with a hook. With unexpected delicacy, he traced the curve of your exposed shoulder and gradually moved the hook along your skin towards the middle of your neck.
You pressed against the mast further, trying to put some space between you and the hook as it explored.
“Do you have a name?” He asked, subtly raising his brow.
You held your breath as his hook grazed against your throat, before he used the tip to tilt your chin up to get a better look at you.
Your eyes met his, “Well?” he questioned.
“Y/n,” you whispered so quietly that even he barely heard you.
“Y/n,” he repeated, annunciating every syllable as though he was savoring the feel of it as your name left his lips, then smiled. “A pleasure.”
Finally, he stepped back. “Allow me to introduce myself, I am Captain James Hook,” He bowed with a flourish. “Welcome aboard the Jolly Roger.”
You swallowed, eyeing him suspiciously, before you took a cautious step away from the mast. “Captain,” you began, voice slightly trembling. “Have you seen any children pass through here recently?”
“Children?” The smile on his face quickly faded into a sneer.
You clasped your hands together and nodded, you had to find them, Wendy, John and Michael. “Someone has taken the children I care for,” you answered, tears welling in the corner of your eyes.
“The only children I’m aware of are those damned lost boys and Peter Pan,” Hook spat, not bothering to hide his disdain as a look of utter disgust crossed his features. Even the rest of the crew reacted at the name, Peter Pan, scowling, muttering, even spitting.
Tears slid down your face, you were unable to hold back any longer. Everything was so confusing, like something right out of a dream, but you couldn’t wake up.
Pirates, fairies, flying it was all madness.
That night, when you had heard the children talking and playing in the middle of night, you didn’t have the heart to scold them and ruin their harmless fun, especially not after the recent argument between Mr. Darling and Wendy.
So instead, you listened closely from your room as they talked about some rubbish of fairy dust and flying, but when the room went quiet you knew immediately something wasn’t right. Right away you barged in, strange clouds of golden dust lingered in the air but there was no sign of the children.
You rushed to the open window and almost fainted at the sight of Micheal, John, Wendy and some other boy in the sky, floating away like untethered balloons.
You shook your head, pinched yourself, screamed, tried just about everything to snap yourself out of it, but you were wide awake.
“Fairy dust,” you whispered, noticing the golden dust settling on your skin. “And Happy thoughts,” That’s what they said, to fly you just need fairy dust and happy thoughts.
….
You were jerked out of your thoughts, startled when the Captain gently wiped away your tears with a handkerchief. “There, there,” he murmured. “There’s no need for all that.”
Hook offered you his right arm, which you hesitantly accepted, gently resting your hand on his forearm above the hook. He led you up the steps towards his cabin, leaving his bewildered crew behind.
Mr. Smee, after gathering his bearings, speedily raced after the two of you. “Captain?” He asked out of breath, causing Hook to sigh heavily.
“What is it, Smee?”
“The lady, where is she going to stay?”
“In my quarters, of course,” Hook answered evenly.
“Is that really appropriate, sir?” Smee pressed, but stumbled back as the Captain spun around on his heels.
“Well where do you recommend we put her, hm?” Hook snapped, heated that Smee had the nerve to question him.  “How about down in the cargo hold? Or perhaps with the crew? Or wait, better yet, we’ll just lock her up in the brig?” Hook practically snarled, driving the point home as he jabbed Smee with his hook.
Smee gulped, shrinking back as the Captain inched towards him. “O-Of course not, Captain,” he said, shakily.
“The only place on this ship even remotely suitable for a lady are the Captain’s quarters.”
“But then where will you be staying?”
Hook’s face fell, and he gave Smee an incredulous look, “You’re a bloody fool.”
Your hand flew to your mouth as you stifled a giggle, pirates, who knew they could be so ridiculous.
Hook turned to face you, a smirk forming on his lips at the sight of you smiling behind your fingers. He chuckled lightly, “Come, my dear, we’ll get you settled in.”
Your mouth fell open in awe upon entering the Captain’s private quarters, you weren't expecting such a lavish room, all the furnishings appeared quite expensive and ornate.  Although perhaps you shouldn’t be so surprised given the ensemble Captain Hook was wearing.
A magnificent piano sat in the middle of the room, you had never seen one like it before, it was made of mahogany and covered with gold embellishments, on the lid was a painting of a landscape.
In front of the large windows in the back, was a massive desk paired with a lovely red velvet chair. On further inspection, you noticed the scratches on the smooth top, some were fine and the rest were deep creating dips and grooves in the wood. The Captain most likely spent a lot of his time seated there for it to be riddled with so many marks.
In the corner was a large four poster bed covered with an assortment of plush pillows. Your face began to warm up as reality settled in, that you would be sharing this space with him.
“Smee!” Hook shouted. “Move that, over there,” he commanded, gesturing to the folding screen with his hook.
At once, Smee shuffled over. The dividing screen was approximately a whole foot taller than the old pirate, and was made of solid wood like the rest of the furniture.
“Would you like help?” You offered.
Smee started to nod but immediately switched to rapidly shaking his head side to side the moment he caught Hook glaring at him, the look screamed ‘don’t you dare.’
“Kind of you to offer, ma’am,” Smee breathed, struggling as he began to drag the screen to the other side of the room. “But… I… can handle it.”
Hook sighed, unable to ignore how you fretted silently over Smee. He grabbed part of the screen as best as he could, considering one of his hands was a hook, and helped Smee move the damned thing along.
The two of them placed it on the side of the cabin near the bed, dividing that section of the room from the rest.
Satisfied, Hook walked towards you, placing his hand and hook on your shoulders as he guided you over. “Consider this side of the cabin yours, my dear. As a gentleman I’ll be utterly respectful of your privacy,” he whispered in your ear.
You placed a hand over your heart, touched by his generosity. He had given you the part of the room with the bed, you had wanted to object, tell him that you could sleep on the chaise lounge or the sofa, but you already knew there was no convincing Hook to change his mind. So, instead, you accepted his generosity graciously.
“Thank you,” you smiled at him and he smiled back.
“Get some rest,” he murmured, lightly caressing your arm with his fingertips before leaving you.
Pulling back the thick comforter, you climbed into the bed, practically moaning as you laid down and relaxed. It was like sleeping on a cloud or a marshmallow, ridiculously soft and absolutely perfect. The gentle waves rocking the ship helped lull you to sleep, it only took a few brief seconds, before you were swept away to dreamland.
Several hours later you stirred from your sleep. You sat up slightly, it took you a moment to recall that you were on a pirate ship in place called Neverland.
The candles and lanterns in the cabin had been blown out and the only light was coming from the moons through the windows, illuminating the room in a subtle blue light.
Wrapping a sheet around your shoulders, you slipped out of the bed. The soft pitter-patter of your feet against the hardwood floors and water crashing against the bow were the only sounds to be heard.
You found the Captain slouched over his desk, topless, his arms and hair sprawled out on the top. He was snoring lightly.
Without thinking, you placed your sheet over his shoulders, then pushed back strands of his hair away from his face before kissing his temple.
As you pulled back, you frowned, unsure as to why you were compelled to tuck him in and kiss him goodnight. Have you done this before? Not with him, but with a child… children. What were their names?
“Michael, John, and Wendy,” you whispered. Why was that so hard to remember? You had been their nanny ever since Wendy was small. You tried to remember her when she was just a toddler, but you couldn’t picture her face.
Tearing off a small piece of parchment and taking a quill from the desk, you wrote down their names. You folded the paper and held it tightly in your hand. They needed you, you were here to find them and bring them home, you mustn’t forget that.
