I was recently invited to go to a local pub with a bunch of my mates around the time of my 20th birthday. The pub hosts these events which aren’t alcohol centred like grill nights and empanada night, the day I went they had empanadas and I was excited to try some. I got there early and was asked what table I wanted if I wanted high top stools or chaired seating, and if I wanted to eat at the bar. I told them I was too young for the bar and would prefer a regular table. The waiter told me I had to leave since they serve more alcohol than food, I again stated I was here for the food not the drink but still I had to leave. Furthermore my friends and girlfriend who are over 21 need to have someone that’s 25 in order to drink near me. The food was great but I didn’t finish it there since I had a curfew so I was home by 10 with a takeout box with my birthday dinner inside it.
Maybe this is the wrong platform to pose this question given the average tumblr user but
Is it just me or did our generation (those of is who are currently 20-30 ish) just not get the opportunity to be young in the 'standard' sense?
Like, everyone I talk to who's over 40 has all their wild stories about their teens and 20s, being young and dumb, and then I talk to my friends and coworkers and classmates, and we just... dont.

Baby penguins are Junior Ministers and I will not elaborate
monarchy sucks as a social system but i suppose it would be funny if royally-named animals got more democratic names. renaming the emperor penguin and monarch butterfly into the president penguin and the democratic butterfly
prime minister penguin has a really nice ring to it, actually. societal anarchy butterfly may need some workshopping though

The Korean War occupies a unfortunate place in the American Mythos, it sits in between the eras of World War Two and Vietnam. Due to where it sits chronologically it gets buried but I think it’s an incredibly important war, it was the fiery start to the Cold War. It also was the only war that NATO fought in all together if I remember correctly. If you ever have the chance to talk to a Korean War vet I implore to talk with them as long as they’re able. I hope you get the chance to visit the war memorial at some point, those are always fun to go to and appreciate it all.
18 August 2023
I am tentatively accepting that the leak in my kitchen is actually fixed. The water stain on the ceiling looks a bit lighter, at least. I left the fan running pointed under the sink all day, and that area is almost totally dry now. I turned the fan off to see if it gets damp overnight. Hopefully it won’t.
Work today was not great but not terrible. That’s all I ever really hope for these days. I will be working tomorrow morning, and then I am off until Thursday. I am really looking forward to some rest and plowing through my want to read list on Goodreads. Or at least finishing my current jumbo read on the Korean War.
I was planning on visiting the local Korean War memorial during my vacation, but we will be under a heat advisory and it’s quite a walk there and back, so I’ll have to play that by ear.
I do love it there, though. Not a lot of folks here know about it, I don’t think, or they don’t really think about it, but something about sitting there and thinking about those soldiers and all the people affected by that war really moves me in a way that is hard to put into words. I have been very interested in the Korean War for quite some time, and my heart swells with all sorts of emotions when I sit on a bench at the memorial or pray for the veterans of the war and all those who didn’t survive. (The local one purports to be the first monument in the country dedicated to those who served in Korea, and the original version was dedicated before the war even ended.)
It’s one of those special places to me, and I really look forward to when the summer heat abates and I’ve completed my physical therapy and can make the trek every weekend.
In other news, I finished up The Bungalow Mystery during dinner tonight, so now I’m going to start on The Mystery of Lilac Inn before I go to sleep.

I like a lot of sweatshirts and patches so I can show my travels wherever I go.
Hello my Dear Readers, I am crowdsourcing another Historical Question for y’all!
When you visit a Historic Site (house museum, reenactment site, jail, shipyard, museum, etc.) what are some things you like to purchase from the gift shop?
What are some things that really grab your attention and make you say “I need to take this home!!”
Do you prefer small trinkety things (I.e. stickers and keychains) or do you go for bigger ticket items like reproduction goods (hats, housewares, etc.)
What about books?
Pls let me know your thoughts!
