He died in 1947. THINK ABOUT IT! Homeboy acts like a narcissistic piece of shit (and we love him for it) not because he actually believes he’s better than you, but because if he doesn’t, he’ll be killed. What do you think happened to gay boys in the 1940s? They were still throwing people into asylums for that shit. And being a mental patient back then was basically like being a prisoner. Asylums weren’t hospitals. They were a place to keep you away from all the ‘sane’ people. So, if Angel uses his catty attitude as a defense mechanism in Hell, he prolly used it for the same reason in life. I have a feeling Viv’s made a show that’s gonna make my inner psychologist go bananas, because whatever plagued Angel as a human is plaguing him now as a demon. And a lot of those plagues are gonna have EVERYTHING to do with being a young gay man in a post WWII world, who likely lives a life of crime because he isn’t allowed to anything else and still be himself. And does it even work? Obviously not, because he’s addicted to drugs and alcohol, which he probably uses to numb the pain of his existence. :)

Side note: Even if his narcissism is legit, it’s still a defense mechanism and it would make sense that he has it. You either force yourself to believe that you are God’s gift to mankind, you die. You might as well be dead. There is something fundamentally wrong with you, otherwise, there is no in-between.
