i forgot to mention Blossom of Bone - that would also have material you might be able to use! it's pretty specifically about queer men's homoeroticism and spirituality.
i haven't read Ariana Serpentine's new(ish) book yet, so I can't say how much it is about desire, but it is definitely about queer identity and gender and spirit. there's also the anthology Rocket and I got published in, Queer Magic: Power Beyond Boundaries. our own article is available to read online but i don't know if it's on theme.
I know this is too much to sort through but good luck on your assignment 😅 and I would be interested in seeing what @flamingkorybante would add to my list here.
For a school assignment, I'm assembling an anthology around the theme of queer divinity and desire, but I'm having a hard time finding a fitting essay/article (no access to real academic catalogues :/ ), do you know of any essays around this theme?
oh that's fascinating! it needs to be an article, not a book? I have leads more than links but here are some initial thoughts.
there are several Radical Faeries who have written on those themes - you could investigate Arthur Evans's work, or check back issues of R.F.D.,
not without problems, but Raven Kaldera and Lee Harrington have both written and edited books, articles, and anthologies about the links between queer divinity and desire, especially on issues of dis/ability, the body, and kink. I think they're both primarily Heathens/Northern Tradition polytheists.
this isn't to advocate, since the ideology behind it is pretty gross imo, but you may find older Dianic Wiccan texts that discuss both queer divinity and desire. I assume you can incorporate and discuss texts whether you agree with them or not.
there's a Chinese folk deity called the Rabbit God who is himself considered to be a gay deity and who has a temple in Taiwan where gay and queer people can come make offerings and request help finding a partner. I wonder if there's writing on him that would be illuminating?
also there is TONS of erotic writing in the Hindu tradition that incorporates same-sex acts and desire, you could chase that lead if it interested you.
is any of this helpful in framing your search?

gordon ramsay at a feast of emperor elagabalus: fuck me. the food's just rocks covered in wax. fucking hell. almost broke a tooth on that one. scuse me, can i get some real fucking food over here? (the waiter is currently suffocating under a giant pile of rose petals that have been dropped down from the ceiling) dying on the job. wonderful. i'd die too if i had to eat this food (distant roar of a lion) and now he's sending in his pet lions to attack the guests. un-fucking-believable. at least someone's eating well tonight

so much of my sexual life has been defined by experiencing the feeling of being desired as a threat
that experience is shifting but it's weird and disorienting, and i can't tell yet whether the alarm is still there and just has another later on top of it or if it's abating

btw one of the key components of actually being in a healthy relationship is just asking for things that you want. i keep seeing posts on this website saying 'i really want to do/receive [X] but my partner has never done it'. just ask. 'nobody exchanges love letters anymore' ask. 'i want to have my partner's hair in a locket like the victorians' just ask. 'i want to be bought flowers regularly :((' literally just ask. your partner doesn't know they're being held to these expectations and that you're unhappy unless you tell them. it's so unfair to expect your partner to read your mind. 'it's less special if you have to ask :((' grow up and stop pretending you're the lead in a romcom. when people say communication is crucial they mean it !! just ask !!

earth month the institution of everybody remembering Oh Yeah We Live In An Environment all at once during the same one month of the whole year and making me come to their stuff and talk to them about How To Please Stop Killing Us and also Clean Energy: Good For The Economy, You Like The Economy Don't You
not the earth itself. earth loves me. i love earth. we are keeping each other alive. it is the institutionalization of giving a shit about the closed system in which we all live and all the stuff that lives in it for a short set period every year that is trying to fuckin kill me.
it Will Not Succeed!!! but it is Trying!!!
earth month is trying to kill be but It Will Not Succeed

The Shofar Breaks Your Heart
by Dane Kuttler
When you give a girl a shofar –  no, not a proper instrument of G-d, but a rough-cut horn with no real mouthpiece her aunt brings back from a trip to Jerusalem, don’t make it easy.
Put it up on the shelf in the living room where its curled promise of a shout will tempt her until she can reach it on tiptoe.
Tell her no one has ever found its voice, that she will only make it grunt, bray and sputter like the animal it came from.
Then give her a few years.
Give her an empty garage and a neighborhood Jewish enough to understand what it’s hearing so she can practice until tiny tekiot burst forth from the scrap of ram.
She will be the only one who can ever shape its sounds, can bend the call to tekiah, round off nine drops of t’ruah wailing, fling the anguished cry of a sh’varim from its mouth.
Let her brag about this.  Remember that children are not humble creatures, that the simple act of being heard is their great triumph.  Let her be heard.
Bring her to Hebrew school. Teach her the story of the rabbi who told his students that he would put the words of Torah on their hearts; that the words would only find their way in when the students’ hearts broke. Let her sit with that tale for as long as it takes for her own heart to shatter, for torah and poetry and forgiveness  find their way inside,
play her Leonard Cohen. Let him croon about the cracks in everything, that’s how the light gets in, let her begin searching for light, ask her where she thinks the cracks come from, give her Auschwitz, give her Torquemada, give her pogrom and quota and blacklist, the ashes of all her burnt bridges, give her avinu malkenu, ashamnu, ashamnu, ashamnu,
watch her break  her heart with her fist.
Give her the shofar.   Let the horn steal her breath, let her begin to understand that she’s not holding a dead piece of animal, but a living prayer.
Teach her: after every blast you can hear the echo of the still small voice.
If you listen for it, you can hear the calls for the wild cries they are; salute them with a straight back when they yank you from your amidah; and should you hear a shofar blower struggle and gasp and strain for each call, imagine yourself a trapped animal, desperate to be heard.
When it’s over, Close your eyes.
Be. Broken. Here.  Before G-d and your people. Be. Cracked.
feel the light and the words come in.

lots of experience with ancestor work over here 💐 here's how I'd start out.
designate a physical space as an ancestor altar. (if you can't do that, hmu for alternative ideas.) different traditions have different customs (Buddhism for example has very specific regional ancestor veneration customs). it sounds like you don't have a particular framework so I'll give some general advice.
a shelf or the top of a bureau makes a good spot for the ancestor altar, but wherever it is, don't put non-altar stuff on it. this is their spot for their stuff, and clutter is disrespectful. it's nice to put out a cloth (commonly white), photos of the deceased to be honored (no living people on the ancestor altar!), written-out names if you have them, a candle, a water glass, any memorabilia FROM your ancestors, and any offerings TO your ancestors. I have an old pocketwatch and a small vase that belonged to some several-greats grandparents, for example. I leave out mini bottles of gin and add a fresh flower when I can, as offerings. the dishes on my altar feel fancy but they all came from garage sales. what's important is that it feels nice, like it honors the people on it.
periodically (I go for weekly except for dusting which is monthly), tend the altar. dust it if needed, change out the water, wash the water cup if it's getting scuzzy or a bug has landed in it or whatever. maybe light the candle, burn some incense or spray a preferred fragrance, and sit at the altar for a while. you can talk with your ancestors, thank them, ask them for help, update them on your life, ask them if there are any offerings they would like from you and then quietly clear your mind to see if any answers come. share a cup of coffee or tea with them if you like (I usually leave the teacup for a day and then tidy it up).
those are the basics I would suggest for starting an ancestor work practice, if you don't have a specific tradition to work from.
any tips on setting up an altar to/or just generally honoring one’s ancestors? I don’t know what to put. I mean, they really only have the fact that I came from them and humanity (although that isn’t even true if you go far back enough) in common, right? ❤️❤️ thank you so much :-)))
Hey, Nonny! I will be so honest and say that the way I honor my ancestors is very little atm, as I'm still dipping my toes into it. I don't have much advice.
I suppose check through divination first to see if a specific ancestor is/has been aiding you? You can build a general altar to that ancestor instead of focusing on every single one of them. But you can also build a very general altar for your ancestors until you get a better feel for what things they'd like as offerings and decoration. Things such as family heirlooms, candles, incense, drawings, poetry, your favorite flowers, pictures of passed family members/loved ones, etc. It's up to you, but you can always be vague until you get a better idea of who they are and what they'd like.
If anyone has better advice, PLEASE offer it!!!!
Thank you, Nonny, and have a good day/night! 🧡
