[ffxiv] jumping on last year's bandwagon with this fun template! i tried doing it in the character creator too, but drawing him helped me keep his vibe consistent.

A goblin gloomstalker ranger / peace cleric I made for an RP group. She's an experienced dungeon delver, and crafts little enchanted items by inviting tiny spirits to live in them. If you want an enchanted item made with care, you ask Auntie Daya - just remember that they might have a little more personality than usual...

My loser girlguy of a Casketland character. She cheated death and is not using her newfound ability to live in the loophole for anything even approaching useful lmao.

I'm on FFXIV now. And you're contractually obligated to look at my funny pirate guy. Bonus under the cut: me putting him in Dawntrail where he belongs.

3, 9, 18, and an additional question you want to answer (if you want) for Leonore
Thank you for the ask :> Link to her ref for people not in the know: Leonore 3. How did you choose their name? I tend to spend ages choosing names, but it's important to me that they feel right. Leonore's full name is Leonore Osvit. There wasn't really any significance to the name Leonore other than me really wanting a name that started with L, but in retrospect I guess the leo/lion association kind of makes sense for her powerful personality. Osvit was a last name I chose solely because it would abbreviate to "Oz" which is a fun nickname for an artificer who makes enchanted machinery. 9. Are they based off of you, in some way? Insofar as every OC of mine grows out of some tiny fragment of me, yeah, but not really in any other way. On some level, I can relate to her curiosity and the need to intellectualize or logic away her feelings. I've been known to be pretty direct about criticism, too. At her core she values having control and certainty over things in her life, but I think most people can relate to that. I did make her at a time when I was working a lot, so that definitely influenced her lmao. 18. What is the most recent thing you鈥檝e discovered about your OC? In terms of what's happening in her campaign, we recently came into contact with a religious order on the space station that seems to have access to an elixir of eternal youth, so I had to come up with an explanation for why Leonore hasn't figure out a way to get in there for the sake of that sweet sweet lifespan extension she's been looking for. She's so completely not the type to join a religious order though, so me and the party it would be funny if she approached them once, but got so mad about them hoarding this elixir when there's literally a group of people defending the station that suffers from having their lifespan cut to 1/3 of its total that she got herself blacklisted from there. She's had to made her peace with having to find another solution.

1 and 18 about Isoldan if ya haven鈥檛 answered already!!
Thank you for asking about my lovely opera boy :> 1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)? The first things I decided about Isoldan were that I really wanted to play a bladesinger wizard and that he would be the polar opposite of my other current DnD character, Leonore. So, since Leonore is an intimidating engineer lady who doesn't have time for your feelings, Isoldan is very empathetic and a huge theater kid. He's really earnest and kind and sincere, but he's easy to fool and he knows it. Being burned hasn't ever stopped him from giving people the benefit of the doubt. Bonus Fun Fact: The second thing I decided was that he was formerly an opera performer, and this was entirely because I had been reading up on the history of opera for a FE3H opera AU / doppelganger fic that I never finished (though I hope I do someday).
18. What is the most recent thing you鈥檝e discovered about your OC?
After rp-ing him in our text campaign for a while, I realized that Isoldan spent much of his early life as a complete open book emotionally, but had to learn to hide it to get better at acting and dueling and interacting with the nobility who would come to the opera. He's still not very good at it unless he's consciously trying in those particular settings. He may be a good a stage actor, but that's more about amplifying/redirecting his emotions into a specific role rather than trying to suppress them. Isoldan can't ever be anyone other than himself.

2, 4, 12, & 14 Your choice of character or randomize it :o
Ooh! Thanks for the ask. Ok, random.org dealt me Emile, Tarragon, Thistle, and Sey, so I'll answer in that order. (Links to drawings of them attached.) 2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind? Yes! Emile was 100% meant to be Marzanna's opposite. She's the funny little warm-colors jester to Marzanna's monochrome cool-colors depressed knight. Emile wears soft/loose clothing, while Marzanna's decked out in cold unfeeling black armor. And then of course there's the height difference. I wanted them to look and feel like a very unlikely duo, but if you spend any time around them as people you understand that this is how it was always going to be. Unfortunately, they're in love and would die for each other, and neither of them has told the other. 4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts? Tarragon is my FFXIV WoL and I've actually started playing recently, so I've been thinking about him a lot. I'm not very far in, but I've decided he used to be a pirate simply based on the fact that I love that Limsa culture is just barely managing to pretend not to be a bunch of pirate crews glued together into a city state. Tarragon is old enough to remember when that wasn't the case yet, and the times after when there was still dissent in response to the instatement of (gasp) actual laws? He left the pirate's life behind to go travel, but I do think it's funny that this makes him an unconventional Duskwight who inexplicably loves cities and the sun. Go figure. 12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC? So I actually haven't posted about Thistle anywhere yet, but I was delighted to answer this question for them. You see, I draw a lot of people. So there's just one problem: Thistle is a gun. Thistle (or their actual name, The Sensation of Being Scratched by Thorns) is my character in a game of GUN&SLINGER, where one person plays the slinger and the other plays the sentient gun. Thistle is an eldritch fey being trapped in the form of a magic gun against their will, which they are quite mad about. Now, I can draw a gun just fine (god knows I've drawn rifles for Leonore and Songbird several times) but Thistle's form is meant to be weirdly otherworldly and organic, like plants from from inside not-bone, and I've had a lot of trouble conveying that in a way that doesn't look overdesigned. 14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? I've gotten very good at boiling Sey down to his core qualities. If I had to narrow it down to two, it would be:
angular (the build, the nose, the eye shape. the personality. the electricity theming. yep, this boy is made of triangles)
punchable (if he's not smug and full of himself and angry and all around a bastardly little guy is he even Sey? and yet despite his losing personality he is my favorite son.)
If you have those, that's Sey. If you don't, that may or may not be some other guy who looks like him.

19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?
The real question is which OC...I have a lot. I'll go with my newest dnd boy, Isoldan, because I just posted his design. Isoldan is very sentimental, so he's got a box of trinkets full of random little mementos from friends and experiences he's had. Things like old sheet music from his dad, part of a costume piece from a favorite opera production he was in, an empty makeup compact from when one of his best friends first taught him how to use it. There's also a fascinatingly critical anonymous letter he received once that he almost threw out, but ended up because upon a second reading he started wondering why the sender seems to care so much. He's yet to find out who sent it. But I know :> I actually wrote an entire mini story about the meaning behind the things he has in there, which you can find here...I'm really happy with how it turned out!
