it’s a tragedy that dinotopia was adapted as a weird gritty looking tv movie with bad cgi when it’s, without exaggeration, the most ghibli any book has ever been

Idea: orchard harvester saddle. More of a standing platform with a scooter handlebar for the rider where the centaur can hand things up and down. (playing Farming Simulator is making me crave more peaceful/agricultural world building; there's already so much Warlike WB around, it needs some balance)
(also, eat like a horse vs eat like a bird, horse metab is high efficiency but a lot of it just due to net size, imagine that efficiency applied to refined grains and breads. Centaur diets would be less-per-weight than humans, although not necessarily by much due to the metabolic needs of sapient brain and foretorso)
Ohhhh I absolutely love this and absolutely think it should be a thing. I've been thinking more about the inherent benefits of centaurs in an agrarian society and more and more the borders of the Merchant city has been expanding outward towards the edge of Rider territory with enormous matriarchal farm towns that feed most of the surrounding societies so this would fit right in to that kind of lifestyle! And sounds so useful! One doing the moving and loadbearing, one doing the climbing and picking.
And I agree, war shapes societies undeniably but so many worldbuilders forget that trade, craft and industry shape cultures and societies just as much! It's definitely a topic i could GO OFF about haha, I have major exports and interrelated trade agreements drawn up between ALL my current societies 😁
(also absolutely, the use of refined grains and bread was a huge part of my initial thoughts about how centaurs could survive feeding that big horse body with comparatively small/limited human teeth. The efficiency of processed grain and grass fibers would be SO necessary to their digestion and overall survival!)

CENTAUR DISCUSSION TOPIC. Horses communicate mostly through body language, and even establish dominance in a herd by forcing themselves into another horses space. All this being said, do you think centaurs would be incredibly adept at recognizing the micro expressions of their fellow centaurs, but would perhaps have a sort of…Social skill deficit when it comes to dealing with other races? Basically, I’m thinking that a twitch in the face with another centaur could easily be a sign of anger or frustration, but a centaur could read that on a human and become nervous because they don’t know what they did, when in fact, the human was just resisting the urge to scratch an itch on their back cause they didn’t want to be rude. Does this make sense at all?? It’s been rolling around in the noggin for a while now. Thoughts???
OHHH I have thought a LOT about centaur body-language, but it's hard to illustrate so it remains up in my head. But the pertinent part is that I think it would be a LOT less about facial expressions and more about personal space management like you said! Horses use personal space to communicate a lot and I think centaurs would use it similarly, but more to communicate relationship than necessarily all about dominance. So family and herd members could bump into your space and flop all over you, but big faux paus to stand in touching range of a business associate in a meeting!
But I definitely think social skill deficit would be a common problem as the more human brain overrides the inherent horse wiring to keep unknown folks out of kicking range, so it feels like it would be a regular issue even in between centaurs! Much less when interfacing with other species and humanoids, who very likely often default to treating a centaur's horse half just like a horse- leading to the centaur always being that much more conscious of how deep in the kick range their companion likes to just.. hang out!!
This isn't even addressing the number of casual butt pats the average centaur has to deal with from casual business associates on the human trade networks 😩

I misread your username as 'the art in grace' and thought it sounded cool, but then I realized it was 'the arting ace' and that just made it even cooler XD
Love your art and hope you have a good day)))
HAHA Honestly that is the BEST interpretation of my name, it's so lovely <3
I do enjoy the double meanings of the name, being a proficient art-er and ace, but misreads are common and an accepted part of the name 😁
Thank you for stopping by with a kind sentiment! 💜

Hi The Arting Gace,
I’m currently in eleventh grade, and I’m working on a paper. My topic is centaurs and their behaviour. I wanted to ask you if I could use your drawings in my paper? And do you use specific sources? If it’s not a burden, would you mind sending them to me? I could really need them.
Anyway, I absolutely adore your drawings and find them really realistic!
I hope you have a nice day!
Ahh how exciting! And absolutely, feel free to use my images for a paper! I never mind my images being used for scholarly pursuits, whatever they are! Obviously I LOVE the idea of a paper on centaurs and their behavior!!
However I don't have much to offer on sources! I have constructed almost all of my theories on centaurs have come from accumulated knowledge about horses from all over the internet and a general passion for biology in general, so I don't have any particular sources I can point you too 😥
But I'm glad you enjoy the drawings! Good luck on your paper!

Ppl: “Glaze and nightshade all your art!!”
Also ppl: * does not mention that you need to have a fucking NVIDIA GPU and running nightshade on one image takes at best 20 minutes*
Like the online version of glaze/nightshade requires an account. And last time i checked they arent accepting new accounts because of the high pressure.
Like i make my art on my ipad. My MacBook is from 2014. If i tried to download and run nightshade on my decade old macbook and go throufg 10+ years of artworks i might as well just set it on fire.

Did you ever finish that centaur compendium booklet you mentioned a while back?
Not yet unfortunately 😔 it is still technically in progress and it is a life goal at this point to finish it, but i got taken hard by the SAD this year and have been dealing with major work-related burnout so it's been an ongoing negotiation with me @ me wanting to put it together and also life being a knock down drag out recently.
Rest assured as i get back to putting things together it will be my pinned post here!

Love these fools, rereading GtN knowing what an unreliable narrator Gideon is and learning more about the other residents of Canaan house from HtN just makes it so much funnier thinking about how these two goofs manage to look like proper terrifying, super intimidating nuns of the Locked tomb but really..
neurotic necro-nerd and her fake goth jock, both CRIMINALLY unsocialized.

Aaa!! I love your centaur stuff so much!! All the talks of furniture and other stuff made for centaurs makes me nerd out because it's so interesting! :3c I think centaurs are like the coolest fantasy creature ever since there's just so much to think about with them
Ahhh thank you! It truly is never-ending with centaurs!! They've always been my favorite since I was a TINY babe, but I think what's kept them around is the puzzle they present when it comes to how they work in ANY way shape of fashion!! From how they breathe to how they build their homes, it is NOT intuitive!!
