Welcome to Engl3346. For some of you, this will be your first tumblr post. For others, it will be a comfortable environment. For your first post, I’d like you to consider how your relationship to your writing environment impacts your writing, particularly as it intersects with the course strands and dimensions of learning found on our course web page. Remember to include an image or aural supplement to your alphabetic writing; these supplements should expand on the things you are writing about.
The image above is representative of my own history and interests with digital environments, and offers one perspective on our class as a whole. Here, we will think about the different ways in which people have interacted with digital writing environments, including ourselves, which may require a fair degree of excavation.

Man I hate it when people use the pronoun “you” as a singular pronoun in an informal setting. “You” is plural, unless thou dost speak to an unfamiliar person. The correct singular second person pronoun is “thou” in most cases. Grammar never changes. Pronouns must always stay one way until the end of time. Learn thy proper English. *sigh* Kids these days.

You should all post your current favorite music.
a. Finals are coming. We all need jams if we’re going to survive.
b. I’m old enough to remember the emergence of the Walkman. Yes, the Walkman, the thing that happened before iPods.* Which means I’m old enough to remember the emergence of hip hop, the transition from disco to pop, late punk, ETC. I KNOW. I always need new music, save me. Make me look with fondness on you and your final projects.
*I mean, I remember The Walkmen (the band), too, but we can all agree they’re significantly less important.
Not related to Rhetoric or Composition, but I must share
So in a few days, on April 28th to be exact, Gorillaz will be releasing their first album, Humanz, after having been on hiatus for 6 years.
Gorillaz have to be my all time favorite band. I grew up listening to their music and always admired their unique concept. The beauty of their music is that their style is always changing and you never get the same thing twice. They’ve done everything from alternative rock to Britpop, trip hop to hip hop, electronica to indie, reggae to pop, and th list goes on. There’s a little something for everybody.
For those of you that don’t know who Gorillaz are (odds are you’ve heard their music at some point or another, but have never identified the name): Gorillaz are a virtual band consisting of Murdoc Niccals on bass, 2D on lead vocals, Noodle as guitarist and 2nd vocals, and Russel on drums and percussion. They were created by Damon Albarn, frontman of the band Blur, and artist Jamie Hewlett who shared a flat. The two created the band after having watched MTV and realizing the lack of substance the music being promoted there had.

This thread on identifying and self-identifying as a disabled person reminded me of our conversation in class last week on talking about and over other groups of people, even - or especially - when we’re trying to get things right.
(Etiquette note: if y’all want to pick this up and talk about it, please keep it here rather than pinging the author of the thread directly; they’ve already done a lot of work educating the public recently).

Trust me when I say 90%+ of my students haven’t used tumblr before and mostly dislike it at first. It gets easier, and most students ultimately find it useful. I’m reblogging so everyone sees this. :) Don’t panic. Just do the steps.

All of the readings are in the Google folder for the course named “Readings.” The email with the link to the readings folder went out through Blackboard to the entire class, so make sure you are checking your school email address. If you are still having trouble, you can email me directly.
I’m lost, can someone help me. My understanding is that we need to post blogs once a week based off the reading. Though I’m new to google docs I can’t seem to figure out how to connect with class or at least with the professor. I’m in need of library exploration sheet.

I thought it’d only be fair if I did a quick introduction this term as well. As I said in class, you can call me Tekla or Dr. Hawkins or Professor or Dr. Tekla or any combination thereof.
This is my second year at UTRGV. I did my PhD at UT-Austin with a concentration in digital rhetoric & literacies, my BA and my MA are in English with a literature concentration. I started teaching at Austin in 2007, during my masters program.
I make almost all of my classes use tumblr, and I just noticed I have 158 followers. Hi everyone. *waves* This term I’m teaching 6328, a graduate level Digital Rhetoric survey, 4343 composition theory & pedagogy, and 1302-99, an online second-semester research and writing course. That’s a 3/4 time teaching gig for those of you playing along and the rest of my work time is spent on research and writing.
My user icon up there is “Baitogogo,” by Henrique Oliveira. Most of my user icons & webspace backgrounds, especially for scholarship, tend to focus on the way we define boundaries and what happens when we push on them. That & that cat gif up there sum up my entire approach to scholarship.
