Australia is Not Okay Right Now!

This photo is from Mallacoota- a town where 4000 are currently trapped on the beachfront by fires. This photo is an hour and a half old. The news article linked is two hours old.

Australia is currently fucked. Near every state is reporting record-breaking temperatures- one state alone has lost over 3,000,000 hectares- California’s fires was 1.3 million, for comparison. We don’t know how many homes are lost, because breaking through some of these fire fronts now is a work in progress; to get to the people still stuck inside them. We have several dead and several more missing, four of those who’ve died were volunteer firefighters. 

These fires aren’t just affecting smaller, regional towns; Sydney and Adelaide have been under threat for over a month. The fire that trapped people above? It started overnight. There was no threat in that area prior; people weren’t told to evacuate from there. 

Many of these fires are now creating their own weather systems, so conditions are not getting better.

My friends have told me internationally they’re hearing nothing on this, so please, talk about this with those around you. Australia is in trouble. This is barely the start of our summer period. We are already breaking 100-year-old maximum temperature records. So much of the country is still in drought, and so much more is stuck in dry conditions that essentially leave people living in a tinderbox.

Australia is not okay! The world should be talking about it!

when people ask where you see yourself in 10 years

you do not get to be pissed at the mcelroy’s for not making indruck canon

there are so many things about the amnesty campaign you can wish were different. the big set up for indrid’s importance to the finale arc and then the let down when he was barely a part of it is one of them. the duck/minerva student/mentor relationship turning romantic is another. there’s stuff that the mcelroys themselves have said they could have done different in regards to storytelling and set up of lore. etc. there are actual elements of this arc that you can be frustrated with, but indrid and duck not being romantic is not one of them.

there was never a set up for indrid and duck ending up together. this is coming from someone who ships it and regularly reads fic for it. not once did they have a conversation that could’ve tied into an end game romance. not once did griffin or justin or anyone even remotely hint to this possibility. everything we as a fandom have accepted about indruck is headcanon created by us. we don’t get to be angry at griffin for not using our headcanons in his campaign, no matter how aggressively we push them.

and you certainly don’t get to act like any of the mcelroys have betrayed their gay fans and that we “should have never trusted four white cishet men” to deliver representation when two our of the three canon couples of this season were gay. theres always been a blatant ignorance of danbrey despite being the main romance of the campaign. we got the cryptid/government official romance of our dreams with sternclay. you don’t get to insinuate that we were misled or queerbaited because what you wanted to happen didn’t end up happening. the mcelroys have constantly given us the representation we deserve. use that misplaced energy on pieces of media that don’t do what taz does.
