We're all made from the same as the earth
And someday we'll roam it together
Particles gliding
Dancing, colliding
We'll wander, entangled forever - Order and Chaos, Lady Maisery
Please click each one for full details! I couldn’t work on this any longer, ever since experiencing that last dragon tear I knew I had to make something, a Zelda game has never struck like that before, but I’ve had such a busy, devastating month or two, I could only finish it now. The horrors of this moment sucker punched me. Then Lady Maisery came at me swinging too.

im having some post totk zelink thoughts and i need to get them out rn
- they obviously have mad separation anxiety after it all that isnt even debatable they are not to be separated under any circumstances or they’ll throw up
- link still has rauru’s arm idc argue with the wall healing his arm was LAZY
- zelda taking link to some of her favourite places that she saw as a dragon
- some of them are high in the sky so they compromise by sitting on the edge of a sky island thats close enough
- zelda experiencing using recall on a fallen piece of sky island and being both terrified and invigorated
- they cling to each other (lest he let her fall Again)
- link commisions sayge to make zelda her own paraglider and they fire themselves out of the skyview towers to get to islands they cant w recall
- zelda’s wildly laughing the whole timw
- link looks at her like she hung the stars in the sky
- he takes her to courage island to show her one of the steward constructs
- shes almost crying from how cute it is
- she asks it a million questions about how it works, what its like to run this challenge, literally anything else about it
- “hey zelda check this out”
- he’s at the top of the island. zelda’s staring in awe and horror
- link shows off with the glider set and beats the record he set before
- she’s suitably impressed, though she has to ignore the gnawing feeling in her stomach ab falling
- link’s proud grin snaps her out of it
- zelda insists link joins her in taking a picture with the steward construct
- it clinks happily and zelda nearly bursts
- they both decide to conquer their fear of falling by standing at the ledge of the island, glider sets on (link Also had a set commissioned for zelda. she isnt surprised at how much money he has), hand in hand and they leap Together this time
- zelda’s screaming and laughing and link is laughing too
- their grip on their hands is Tight
- both of their hearts are beating out of their chests but the view of hyrule is just so breathtaking that it momentarily overshadows their fear
- link pulls zelda to his chest and she holds on
- he deploys his paraglider and sets them down gently in the grass (even though the sets are impact proof, but one fear at a time)
- their hair is messed up and wild but they’re grinning and laughing and holding each other and maybe everything is okay
- they go home and link cooks hylian tomato pizza. he thinks about taking her to the great sky island tomorrow
- plus…… the lily pads are fun to jump on….

- He likes puzzle games the most
- Absolutely horrible at shooter type games
- He likes games with open worlds but would get distracted with collecting objects
- He would probably really enjoy a game like Stardew Valley

speaking as someone who's repeatedly described herself as "just a girl trying to be an encyclopedia," I really wish we got more of Mineru
(headcanon/character analysis below)
My headcanon for the Zonai is that they just kind of. declined. Something about life in the sky made there be less and less of them until they dwindled to an unsustainable population level. This may be related to how much zonaite they can access--the idea of zonaite being scarce in the sky is introduced really early on[1]. And in terms of "the Zonai and scarcity" I also want to point at the description for the hydrant device, which says that the Zonai were experiencing water shortages until they invented the hydrant, which is an absolutely batshit thing to say, by the way. But anyway: scarcity. Something unsustainable about the way they lived. That's the general vibe for me.
So we have just Mineru and Rauru, now, and I think that that solitude sat differently on each of them. I think it drove Rauru to the surface, out of curiosity but also out of this horror of loneliness. We feel that loneliness when we explore the sky islands: that beautiful, lowing horn music--the cries of the birds--the gold during sunset that eats into your eyes and makes it hard to believe that you exist. A beauty that doesn't need you there. I think Rauru needed to escape that.
Mineru, I think, didn't feel that loneliness in the same way because upon realizing how little was left she buried herself in learning everything she could about the Zonai. This is after all (most likely) the first thing we learn about her: that she knows the most about the Zonai out of anyone. We know also from the tablets in the sky that she would often bury herself in her studies to the extent that she would forget to eat or sleep. And, we know the nature of her research: building a construct that would house her spirit after her body passed. There is not a doubt in my mind that she intended to make herself into the last of the Zonai, everlasting. A preserving tomb for her heritage. When she saw that she and Rauru were the last ones left--all that there would ever be--she put aside any desire to be her own person and instead intended to contain all her people's knowledge and legacy in her spirit and in the construct she crafted for it.
(But to some extent, this necessitated holding on to her sense of self. I already had this impression from thinking about the English, but the no-subject-needed nature of Japanese sentences made it even more certain in my mind: Mineru considered draconification for herself but decided that the ego death it entailed did not serve her purposes. This is why she knows of it; this is why her more heartfelt argument against it is not merely its forbidden nature but the loss of self that comes with it. What was it like, then, to see Zelda elect this course of action that Mineru had set aside for quite literally selfish reasons?)
I've seen meta before that suspects Mineru was subject to parentification, to the need to be both sister and parent to Rauru--I think that is very likely--my opinion differs from the analysis I've seen in that I do not think that was a role she fulfilled with much warmth or attention. She does not strike me as someone with much capacity for that to begin with, and once she set herself on the frankly dehumanizing path of carrying on her people's legacy I think warmth becomes a distantly tertiary concern. She has already ceased to wholly think of herself as a person, in service to the preservation of her people; she forgets or foregoes her own physical needs; it takes a mental shift, then, to ground herself enough to be present for Rauru. I would be surprised if it occurred to her to do this anywhere near as often as Rauru needed it.
I think Rauru and Sonia coaxing her down to the surface probably helped with all of this detachment a little, but not much. She really does not seem to me like a very present person. I think that if she saw Rauru's own attempts to preserve Zonai culture (teaching the Hylians to use Zonai technology, creating the shrines to encourage Zonai-style thought), it did not supersede or lessen the urgency of her own mission.
I think about the construct and her spirit--and Rauru's shrines for that matter--being converted from their original purpose of maintaining Zonai presence and legacy in Hyrule to being locked away for millennia in order to empower the hero of the future; I think about Mineru's spirit finally passing at the end of the game, Link's arm returned to his natural one instead of Rauru's, the Zonai finally and truly laid to rest. This letting go of trying to preserve one's culture forever, is it a relief or a tragedy or both?
Also I think she suffers from chronic pain and limited mobility, that's just the vibe I get from her, and that makes another reason for her to be interested in housing her spirit in a construct beyond the limits of her body, yes I know the one tablet says she dances, how nice it is that she has some low-pain days but some days I think moving is very hard and tiring for her. My mind will not be changed.
---
[1] though we should note, we are told this in a zonaite-mining cave on the Great Sky Island, which was not only not originally in the sky, it was not originally in the depths, now was it? introducing at least one location where zonaite could once be found on the surface

One-Shots - Creepypasta x GN! Reader
Warnings: mentions of gore, death, shootings, medical settings
Movie Night
Tumblr media
Slenderman: Downton Abbey
Definitely a sucker for this show and when the movie came out how could he NOT see it with his favorite person? Literally the only show that was able to bring out his emotions. He’s an eldritch cryptid that lived through every decade and time period, and the timeframe Downton Abbey was in happened to be one of his favorites. Always talks about their lavish lifestyles and amazingly tailored clothing. Pulls the ‘back in my day’ card but it’s more like ‘back in this time period I experienced’.
Laughing Jack: Terrifier
Definitely gets a kick out of horror movie clowns. Makes him cackle and slap his knee. He'll definitely compare killing strategies to the killer clown on the screen. If gore makes you uncomfortable you might want to sit this out though he'd enjoy bonding with you over something he deems so humorous.
Jeff The Killer: DOG
Despite him hating military people and mostly loving a good, classic horror movie to give him new ideas, his favorite genre is comedy. Why not watch a movie with a dog in it? It makes you smile, makes SMILE smile, and makes him laugh. He'll constantly look over at you making sure there's a smile on your face.
Ben Drowned: The Legend Of Zelda: The Hero of Time
Now hear me out, although he gets compared to Link all the damn time he's still a sucker for his favorite game and would love more than anything to have a piece of the GOOD part of his childhood back especially with his S/O that he trusts. So as soon as he heard about the movie he was jumping at the first opportunity to steal it off any victim who had a copy or bought a service like Hulu that the movie was on.
Eyeless Jack: Brain on Fire
With Chloë Grace Moretz as your favorite actress and him loving serious movies involving a medical mystery this was a perfect pairing. Really any medical mystery suits him but why not make it something you both can enjoy? Definitely points out medical inaccuracies not only in this movie but in EVERY show or movie you both watch. Boosts his ego and helps him remember he knows what he’s doing and what his job is.
Bloody Painter: The Joy Of Painting.
Unless you completely despised documentaries and hours of quite literally watching paint dry he'd have no problem sitting you down to watch some Bob Ross related movies. Barely talks, which is surprising. Gets loads of inspiration (somehow) and lets out a few ‘hums’ and nods as his eyes are glued to the screen and he’s a little too into it. Comments on how he should use a touch more red in his paintings.
Puppeteer: US
He would find it very interesting and would have suspected the plot twist but still didn't expect how it ended. Prime cuddle time while it's one of the rare times he's not up and moving and is finally quiet and concentrated and in the same spot.
~Proxies/Marble Hornets~
Ticci Toby: any Horror Comedy
Just like Jeff he loves comedy movies, but prefers comedy mixed with horror. Like the Scary Movie series, The Babysitter, killer couch, etc. His laughter always makes him lighten up but unfortunately triggers a lot of tics, though this seems to be one of the only times he doesn't mind. He doesn't prefer cuddling at this time like the rest might as he doesn't want to hurt you, but does indulge in resting a shaky hand on your thigh or holding your hand.
Masky: The Fifth Wave
Would definitely love the concept and plot twists. Only watches it because you begged him too, and after all of the films he’d made you watch (most likely made on Brian’s recorder and is a bunch of gore) you insisted it was your turn to ‘pick’. Gets jealous of how Cassie/Evan makes you blush and cuddles the fuck out of you after he notices your little infatuation. Keeps teasing you about how he'd have to patch you up if you got shot like Cassie.
Hoodie: The Pogkeepsie Tapes
Surprisingly Hoodie likes the goriest movies of them all, like even Jeff doesn’t watch some of the shit he gets his hands on. From the dark web to something Ben has to fish around to get from old tapes they'd found in victims’ houses he just cannot get enough. It's hard to tell if the screams are real or fake. The scariest part is how utterly calm they make him. He always lays back and insists you snuggle next to him, but understands if you can't 'handle the content'.
Tumblr media
A/N: First Creepypasta one-shot. I wrote this a long time ago and decided to upload it here with some edits made as I’m not on Wattpad much anymore. Hope you enjoyed! <3

FSR Rambles magic 8 ball-
Here we go again, I feel the chemicals kicking in-
Tumblr media
Ah, we've arrived at a scene I literally wanted since I read the manga so I might have some stuff to say. X'D Shadow introducing Vio to Vaati. Like I stated on the posts of these updates, it's heavily implied (And even outright stated in the German translation, thx AK for that info ^w^) Vio met with Vaati directly.
Also his "I can't believe I didn't notice..." line when fake Zelda turns out to be Vaati ALSO leads me to think he knew what Vaati looked like/has met him before....?
In English it's vague as hell but the Viz Translation has a few genuine flubs imo compared to what I've seen of other translations. (The German one seems super accurate from what I've heard? but that makes sense because it was directly translated from Japanese to German apparently. English gives off "interpretation not 1 to 1" vibes.)
Suffice to say: I've REALLY wanted to know how their interactions went down. X'D
Shadow feels he has some leverage with Vaati since TECHICALLY him and Vaati are equals? Even though Vaati bosses him around oof.
Because Creatures of darkness can sense fear, despite Vio putting on a blank face Shadow knows Vio's nervous and kinda tries to subdue it. (He cares aww)
He's really excited to get this out of the way so they can officially work together.
I figure he technically doesn't NEED Vaati's permission but is still getting it anyway: Because he doesn't wanna upset daddy lmfao.
Also the lines about Vaati being "Lazy" and using people: It comes up later
Tumblr media
Vaati's entrance here was so fun to think of. Bro was napping or smth lmfao. Loved the idea of his weight being so huge it shoves giant gusts of wind as he rises.
The other 3 in FS seem surprised, I think it's supposed to be Green who shouts "SO THAT'S VAATI!?" during the fight. Already mentioned Vio's "I can't believe I didn't notice" rather than HORROR at the Eldridge monster they're about to take on??? X'D
Figured he got the terror out of the way when he MET Vaati. Because Vio is ya know, not experienced fighting DEMONS and virtually ALONE right now he is obviously shitting bricks at the sight of this huge floating eyeball demon lmao.
He also holds Shadow's hand cause it's cute and Shadow Link is the only person who could MAYBE protect him against Vaati.
I can't with eye contact so maybe I'm just a wuss but Vaati's design is so unnerving to me. X'D Also again: If you know my previous fandom work you know I love creepy/scary scenes. You'll notice I virtually always avoid making characters look AT YOU because I literally hate that so much in manga.
Especially in romance scenes I cannot stand eye contact, don't look at me look at your lover lmfao. So if a character in my comics is looking AT the audience: It's because it's meant to be uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
Vio tries to dampen his own fears and Shadow not so casually tries to keep things smooth between them and Vaati. Talking about how great this is.
Vaati can see right through that shit though.
Vio tries to pass off his fear as just being nervous to meet someone so amazing lmfao. Stroke that ego Vio, Vaati's a sucker for that kind of thing.
Tumblr media
Vaati wants a moment alone with the hero. X'D Shadow again is very adamant on Vio being on their side because he really thinks they are.
He in THEORY has just as much of a say as Vaati and has MORE of a say considering Vio's fate is up to him because Gannon put him in charge of that.
Which is hysterical considering he's like 14 to 15 here at minimum considering Link's old enough to drink in FSR and Link deals with the curse for 7 years tho their ages are really whatever in the flashbacks. Like the idea of Vaati and a 14 year old having the same amount of say on their evil plans is so damn funny to me lmao. Gannon thinks Vaati is as competent and useful as a literal child and that's HILARIOUS.
Vio is quick to realize Shadow's wording here and that SOMEONE is a bigger player. He assumes Gannon because that's the only name he has to go off of.
Something I noticed in the manga: Despite being Shadow's partner Shadow doesn't EXPLAIN a LOT to Vio. Vio has to ask him things lmao. I genuinely wonder if it's a trust issue thing or if it's a "he didn't ask so I didn't tell" thing. I had to be smart about this scene because Vio and Shadow don't bring up Gannon until like...WAY LATER in the timeline of them hanging out. I really try to take into consideration the timeline of the actual manga while writing in-between scenes. I'd love to do an entire rewrite of FS but I do not have the time or patience for that. X'D
Honestly the most annoying thing about writing in between scenes is just how WEIRD it is from like: a regular ass person perspective.
Like it's not natural to be like "Yeah lol Gannon, I'll wait to bring that up like a week after it was first relevant"
This is done a LOT in media. Lmao literally just experianced a scene like that in JJK volume 0. It's like for the audiences sake, always awkward and ALWAYS done for exposition, and it's ALWAYS weird from like: an actual person conversation side of things? Idk if I'm articulating this well lmao.
So Shadow was told to leave the room because Vio brings up Gannon to gain Vaati's trust and I needed a reason for Shadow and Vio not to bring up Gannon here because they do later in the manga.
But I thought it'd be clever if Vio brought up Ganon because: He's already gambling might as well use the fact he THINKS the bigger player is Ganon to his advantage.
Anyways: Shadow's still a bro and gives Vio some advice on dealing with Vaati.
The panel of Vaati's eyeball/body taking up the entire background behind Vio while he steels his mind miiiiiight have a very special place in my heart. UwU It's just so ominous.
Tumblr media
I wanted to get across just how much of a threat Vaati is. Mans is TERRIFYING. He's also HUGE.
Vio's rightfully terrified of this thing. I really wanted to show the struggle Vio went through with this plan because it was A HUGE RISK. I feel kinda snuffed we didn't get to see Vio's struggles with this plan in the manga save a few panels of him looking guilty.
We were robbed by page restraints and I'll never forgive whoever only gave Akira 2 volumes for FSA for that, they did SO GOOD for what they had to work with though so don't think I'm dunking on them for this.
I also get the liberty of giving thought bubbles. Smth I noticed is the severe LACK of thought bubbles in FSA?
Also 1 on 1 convos but that's a whole other thing. Again, time and page restraints would be my assumed reason. Pacing in FSA was rushed so I can't really say "For pacing reasons" imo.
So we get to see inside Vio's head as he goes through this, he uses Shadow's assumptions about him here: "Admitting" he always had second thoughts and admired the darkness.
Vaati is obviously skeptical of this nonsense considering who Vio is.
Tumblr media
Vio really hams it up.
Bringing up Gannon which surprises Vaati considering NONE of the heroes should even know about Gannon. He is purely there to distract them while Gannon gains power after all lmao.
The fact one of them KNOWS is not only surprising but kinda scary!
Vio continues to show his "faithfulness" by bowing and declaring his loyalty.
His words hit different for somebody who's been through the same shit as Vio's describing, as Vaati's eyes widen and his wings droop as Vio continues to describe how he would have been despised. If you don't know: Minish Cap manga explains Vaati worshipped the darkness and was a bit of an outcast.
Vio's mind is on one person only at this moment: Princess Zelda! :D
Vio cares about Zelda deeply as we'll continue to see through FSR.
I don't like to see it as romantic (Just because I think Vio is gay but that's a whole other thing), but he is DRAWN to her and wants to protect her no matter what, because well a LOT of reasons.
1. He's apart of Link. And this version of Link and Zelda are childhood friends and deeply care about each other. So just on a personal level he wants her to be alright
2. He's apart of the chosen hero destined forced to save hyryle.
3. I kind of like to think Zelda Gannon and Link have the Triforce in FSR at least, and it's drawn to itself. Side note: Would love for the Triforce to appear on Link/the four's hands at some point. Because I love that design motif on Links.
Tumblr media
The moment of truth...Did his plan work? Everything is FUCKED if it didn't...
Vaati just silently stares at him as Vio dares to raise his head to meet Vaati's eye.
But Vio can't even tell if Vaati's looking at him in this moment with that thousand yard stare.
Rightfully: Vio is still shitting bricks.
Tumblr media
Lol so that blurred word bubble is Vio stating "Lord Vaati?" but Vaati can't hear him lmao.
He's too busy wrapped up in remembering the time he grave robbed-
Jokes aside: You might have noticed smth a tad ODD about being able to see what Vaati was thinking in this moment. But this point is SO FAR from being relevant I'll just leave you to think about it.
If ya noticed it: You noticed. I'll bring it up when it's actually relevant. Which is a LONG time away.
Anyways also if you don't know: Master Elzo gives Link the hat Vaati used to be magical boy at the end of Minish Cap's manga. So Vaati's just stealing it back lmfao.
He is still a demon with magic regardless of the hat, the hat is just a symbol of his bad boy-ness.
Also the idea he "returned" to Minish Cap Link after the dude died was an idea I just could not leg go of.
I maybe have an idea for Minish Cap Link in FSR but I dunno if I'll end up going with it or WHERE. Stuff has changed in the script before so who knows.
Tumblr media
Stealing some of Zelda's light force forever fucked Vaati's mind and body up.
You can kinda assume what went down but the general idea is Master Elzo is fucking dead and Vaati's on a downward spiral. Link is dead because the door between the Picori and the Hylians only opens every 100 years. Also the "Using people" line: Vaati often doesn't use his own striength but uses others to achieve his goals. Ya know like a coward. X'D
Tumblr media
Nobody ever fully trusted or accepted Vaati after what he did in the events of the Minish Cap manga. Sooooo.
Bro turns back to the dark side.
That's the only thing I could think of after seeing he was "Good" at the end of Minish cap manga I was like "????????" after reading FSA first. X'D
Like did he just wake up one day and decide to be evil again lmfao.
The Zelda manga's reference themselves so I'm under the impression they're all SOMEWHAT connected. SO like- WHAT'S VAATI'S DEAL???
Presumably after this he went on to do the events in the story told at the start of the FS Manga: where he fights the first incarnation of the four hero.
Which holy shit I'd also like to dive into buuuuut mmghhh- It's wild to me OUR Link from FS manga is the SECOND bitch to do this. Like MMHH So interesting to me...
Insanity aside this is my explanation for "Good" Vaati. He just reverted. Like a lot of people would under that scenario.
Tumblr media
Lol looking at the same face he did years ago. That must be weird.
Vaati kinda felt a kin-ship with the purple hero cause...YOU KNOW. EVERYTHING I STATED BEFORE THIS. XD
He's a Link-
He's caught off guard by all this so is just kinda like "Oh...Yeah sure you're a part of the team yeah... Yeah...Whatever" Vio broke Vaati by appealing to his trauma lmao.
Shadow spying on if Vio's okay is very funny to me. Dude's worried about his new friend.
Tumblr media
Shadow nervously walking up to Vaati after being caught spying is very funny to me. Bro was just keeping an eye on his new Boyfriend. UwU
Vaati asks for Vio's unput well: Because he was on the Four Hero team at one point lol. If he IS evil getting his opinion is a good route to take.
Which he doesn't fully believe considering he's still sus of Vio but doesn't feel like arguing with Shadow, who is the equivalent to his boss's entitled bratty kid.
Vio of course gets leverage to go to Death Mountain, because he's holding onto the idea he MIGHT be able to regroup.
Vaati's still distracted as fuck from the state of his expression. X'D Like he's kinda just, repeating himself/out of it.
Shadow's just like "Yeah yeah shut up we're great yeah yeah It's fine it's fine"
Tumblr media
Shadow takes a moment to just walk ever so casually away from Vaati getting enough distance before showing how happy/excited he is.
I just like drawing Shadow trying to touch Vio in some way he's so starved for attention and positive interaction. Not having a bad word to breathe about Vio before the betrayal was always funny to me from the manga. He just admires this boy so much.
Like, I like showing off that "He's not really EVIL" side of Shadow link half the fandom seems to DESPISE.
Cry harder we sympathize with Shadow Link in this house. UwU
Vio's cracking under the welcoming nature a little by making a jokes, and even thinks "Man I used to be scared of this dude"
Tumblr media
Shadow is just a little guy in love and I like that about him moving on-
Vio laughs at his dumb joke and Shadow's like "Finally you're not a tense weirdo" X'D
Tumblr media
Vio's coping hard lmao.
He's still just a kid during these events so it's HARD to deal with what's going on. I wanted to write him getting his cracking through because how normal he acts in the events of the manga leads me to think he steeled himself overtime.
Laughing his ass off before going into a state of pure raw emotion of "Holy shit I could have just died" comes off as jarring and unnerving.
Shadow can tell SOMETHING's wrong but guesses the cause wrong.
Tumblr media
Shadow assumes Vio's having a difficulty with the heat.
This goes off of TOTK/BOTW logic where sapphires ward off heat because I think that's awesome.
If I were rewrighting FSA I'd have him give Vio a different outfit or smth like that.
I DO love the sapphire specifically though because um: Anyone remember what the Zora Sapphire was in OOT?
Lmao an engagement ring- X'DDDD
From that one frame of Blue yanking out his hammer from his hat we know they store shit in there. Freakin' Link From the LOZ cartoon has a magic bag that shrinks his shit and I find that hysterical. I like to think Link's hat works similarly.
Vio's blushing and not unsubtle heart skipping is so funny to me.
If the fact Vio kissed Shadow first didn't already get ya:
Vio's in love with Shadow Link too lmao.

So for the evil!Rauru idea, am I correct in thinking the premise is/would be that he got corrupted by the Malice/Gloom in the thousands of centuries he was sealing Ganondorf? note for future: sucking the evil energy out of someone probably not good for health
same anon as the 'did the gloom corrupt Rauru' post, scrolled down and immediately found the post which tells me I'm wrong. (that said, is Gloom a seperate thing from Ganondorf or was he simply corrupted by his own power?)
I swear I'm gonna make a TOTK AU with Evil Rauru now.
To answer your question: I think Rauru is already somewhat sinister and manipulative without the influence of magic substances, but he absolutely could get worse from the Gloom!
But before we talk about him and our dear Ganondorf, let's talk about the nature of Malice and Gloom.
(WARNING: This is going to be long. Read at your own risk.)
Here's what Breath of the Wild tells us about Malice:
"MALICE: Poisonous bogs formed by water that was sullied during the Great Calamity. Coming into contact with one will hurt you."
Meanwhile, Gloom in Tears of the Kingdom appears to be more along the lines of toxic chemical/magical waste deposits deep underground.
You might wonder why Gloom Spawn (or Gloom Hands) exist then, if Gloom refers to deposits and are not sentient. I personally like the idea that Link does get affected from exposure to Gloom, and it messes with his mind, giving him paranoia about his own arm turning on him (hence the Gloom Hands). In other words, Gloom has the power to amplify your strongest emotion or dominant thought, and I think thematically that would be nice for Link, to understand that courage is not the absence of fear, but the presence of fear and being able to keeping standing in spite of it.
But I digress. To be completely truthful, I feel like both substances are poorly named, Malice and Gloom, and would switch them.
Why?
If you notice, Rauru has the Hylians constantly mine for Zonaite. But the Depths are abundant with Gloom. He was actively putting the Hylian society in danger to gain something out of it, and was threatening other societies (in a very kind and benevolent way of course) so they would not interfere. It's kind of a compelling villain arc, that at the end of the day, he's looking out for his people, the Zonai, and subjugating the "less civilized" Hylians to help him meet his ends.
Isn't that much more... malicious?
(I wonder how Sonia would have felt about it.)
So Gloom = Malice. Good so far?
Now, let's reverse it: Malice = Gloom.
The Malice we see in Breath of the Wild, I would still attribute to Ganondorf's doing. The Calamity is a manifestation of his sorrow and grief at the fact that despite what Zelda and he had done, the kingdoms fell under the banner of Hyrule. Rauru won. Even if it Rauru didn't get to see it himself, it still happened. It was like all Ganondorf and Zelda had worked for was nothing. And knowing that Zelda was up there, flying for a purpose that seems to be fruitless, pains Ganondorf. His Calamity is what he is experiencing. And it spills out to the rest of Hyrule (because I love when powers flare from emotions). What he doesn't realize is that he's hurting his Zelda, who watches the Calamity emerge in horror.
But anyways, nomenclature is not the hugest issue, so whenever I'm gonna refer to Gloom or Malice don't switch them, Gloom is Gloom and Malice is Malice. I just wanted to talk a little bit about the two and why their names seem to complement each other rather than themselves.
Now, onto the corruption!
I like to think that given that Ganondorf had just as much arrogance as Rauru. When he meant to seal Rauru underground, he thought he could withstand the Gloom, as it came from the world he was born into, while the Zonai came from the sky, so it would be uncharted territory to them. But in reality, it ate away at Ganondorf, and messed with his mind just like it did Link's. The secret stone on his forehead was meant to keep the corruption at bay. Unfortunately, it could only slow down the process. And so he feels trapped in his mind, and acts out because of it, misleading Link to think he is the King of Darkness.
Meanwhile, Rauru is dead, but his arm still exists (as it's on Link), so I can imagine the Gloom amplifying his lust for conquest and a "new" Hyrule (since the old one has been decimated by the Calamity). He thinks he can do this by persuading Link to save Zelda and earn "Light of Blessings" -- which is actually just short for acquiring enough of Rauru's "light" essence for Rauru to take over.
Which reasons out my post regarding how Rauru controls Link's hand!

When director Hidemaro Fujibayashi said that Zelda in TOTK is “going through growth, experiencing things, and ultimately figuring out what kind of a person she’s going to be,” how would you say that is reflected in the game? What kind of person do you think she realizes she wants to be? What scene(s) reflect her overall growth?
Great question.
MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THE END OF TOTK AND THE DRAGON’S TEARS QUEST
I’d say that Zelda’s growth in TOTK is one from a stagnant character to an active one. In the beginning of the game, she’s recovered from the terrible events of the Calamity: Link saved her, Hyrule is free, and she can pursue her research and rebuild Hyrule to her heart’s content.
But by the end of TOTK, she doesn’t expect to be rescued. In fact, she gives up on ever seeing Link again. In BOTW, she was buying time for Link to heal, holding Calamity Ganon at bay but needing help. She’s not a leader in BOTW, she’s someone who needs the player’s help, a symbol of the fallen kingdom.
In TOTK, Zelda isn’t trying to avenge the past, but rather trying desperately to save her friends, her people. She sacrifices everything in order to save Hyrule—the people who she has grown to care about. Sonia and Rauru inspired her. They risked and sacrificed everything for the safety and prosperity of their people, for hope.
At the beginning of the game, Zelda was terrified to confront Ganondorf, but near the end, she faced him with the other Ancient Sages and King Rauru, and fought until the bitter end. Seeing the horror that Ganondorf unleashed upon the land, and Rauru’s later sacrifice to stop it, changed Zelda. She realized that the only way to prevent the deaths of everyone she loved was to aid Link, no matter the cost. And when Fi brought herself to Zelda, the Princess—nay, the new Queen of Hyrule—realized what she must do in order to save the realm she loved and all people within it. Zelda wasn’t seeking a connection with a goddess in TOTK, but rather learning how to live up to her ancestors, who built all she loves and holds dear. This game is Zelda transforming from Princess to Queen, from damsel to a hero in her own right, who sacrificed herself for the future, for the hope that one day, evil might be vanquished. She’s not just a researcher anymore. She’s not just a princess abandoned by the grace of Hylia. She’s a level-headed commander, the leader of the Sages, a strategist. Someone who hopes and plans and follows through no matter the cost to herself, because she’s realized that the alternative—her friends getting hurt—is something she can never go through again. She has denied death itself, defied fate, and she’s fought so hard to keep the tiniest spark of hope alive.
And she won.

"Why does this fandom have to create so much angst all the time? The games were fun, right? Let the boys be happy!"
While I generally, wholeheartedly agree with and love the, "maybe it was an adventure" viewpoint, I've been thinking recently about why, for example, so much of what I write is angst. The short answer is projection, but I wanted to dive deeper. Why these boys, specifically? Why not some other characters from some other fandom? Why would I take such happy bois from such happy games and angst them into oblivion?
It's fun to push buttons. To swing an imaginary sword. Play fighting against invisible foes is fun, because there's no real mortal danger involved. At the end of the day, The Legend of Zelda is a video game series. A video game series that wants to be fun, that wants to sell the joy of adventure, the accomplishment of saving the day and being the hero. And those are valid! I definitely think those are key aspects of their journeys and should be included in fanworks, featured even!
But... That's not the whole story. Pushing buttons from the comfort of your sofa is one thing. Actually, physically being there, experiencing the exertion and adrenaline and injuries of combat, the pressure of actual time relentlessly ticking by (no pausing, no saving and quitting the game, no infinite tries against difficult enemies) as the world slowly inches towards its doom... Those would be very real for the boys, who, in a sense, live in those worlds.
Remember Dead Hand? Redeads? Guardians? Some other boss or monster that gives you all the nightmares? Think about how terrifying they are when your life isn't on the line. When you can pause the game, turn off the console, get up and go do something else. Simulated fear and actual, life-threatening terror are very different. Your body and brain make darned sure to remember when your life is on the line and make very very sure that you don't ever want to try that again.
But the Links do.
They try, they fight, they soldier on. They don't give up and they don't give in. How many of us would do the same, were our lives actually on the line like theirs would be? How exhausted would we be? How many of us would end up breaking down, literally unable to continue the journey ahead of us? How much worse, more vivid and debilitating, would those nightmares be?
And yet, there is joy.
They smile, they laugh, they wonder at their surroundings. They offer a helping hand to those around them, kick back and relax with mini-games, and take time to explore their beautiful world. Their trials, though horrific, do not break them. Because that is what it means to have a Hero's Spirit in this world of LoZ: no matter what happens, no matter what or how much they suffer, they will. Not. Ever. Break.
They won't become jaded. They'll still see the joy in life. They won't ever give up, won't ever have to. They will always defeat evil in the end because they will always overcome whatever is thrown at them. Up to and including death itself.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could say the same?
I can't speak for everyone, but I angst these fine young men primarily because I want to explore how an unbreakable soul would handle my horrors, my problems, my struggles and inner turmoil, and still come out okay on the other end. How do they manage it? If an "unbreakable spirit" is the rule, how does that look? How does that work?
What can I learn about myself by putting these guys through hell?
The light is made brighter to our eyes after suffering in darkness. Anguish and pain carve out the depths of the soul required to feel exquisite joy. These young men, these little boys, these heroes aren't happy in spite of the horrors they've suffered.
They're able to experience that joy precisely because they've suffered.
So yes, let the boys be happy. Let them laugh. Let them have fun. But always remember: There is no true joy without the experience of pain.

Your post botw zelink fic is EXACTLY the kind of shit I’ve been CRAVING in terms of Zelda’s character exploration
I have lamented and bemoaned the horrors she must’ve experienced and the trauma and conflicting feelings she MUST have post botw and how while I appreciate how we explore that Link had a fucked time, she did too and I feel like that is SO overlooked by so many people
Anyway just wanted to say thank you i owe you my life finally some good fucking food etc etc
Wow! This is such a kind ask and compliment! Thank you so much!!
I’ve always been fascinated by post-botw “canon”. it seems like the start of a game, not the end of one, which is why I’ve always had a desire to explore it more. I’m really happy you’re enjoying it. Also, I love a good dive into PTSD and trauma and healing themes.
But yeah these poor kids are obviously not okay, and i really love them and i really love hurt/comfort (I PROMISE THE COMFORT IS COMING EVENTUALLY)

I was tagged twice! So I'm legally obligated to do this!
Tag game: tag 9 people you’d like to get to know better
Tagged by: @snowrassa and @queer-ragnelle
Last song: Ireland's 2024 Eurovision entry which (plot twist!?!?!) genuinely fucks so hard
Currently watching: My cat grooming herself in the window hammock
Three ships: Ummmm... if we go by ships that took up the greatest proportion of brainspace over the course of my life, it's probably Hector/Andromache, Phoenix/Edgeworth, and whatever Arthuriana flavored loyalty kink/wretched betrayal!!! scenario those girls have going on in Dreamcatcher's Deja Vu video.
Favorite color: Genuinely gray or silver. Occupation hazard of designing maps for work. I find ESRI's black and gray basemaps very visually soothing even when I'm uploading point data it and it automatically gives them these weird orange-red dots that are pretty ugly
Currently consuming: The coffee I just drank is converting to energy I guess?
First Ship: I think it was Zelda/Link in Ocarina of Time. My middle school self was just dumfounded by the epilogue where it pauses on them meeting for the first time again. Just totally flabbergasted and heartbroken that omg OG Zelda essentially annihilated herself by resetting time. Meanwhile Link is back in a happier past where he's the ONLY ONE who experienced all that horror. Even past Zelda is shut out of all that! I wanted the Zelda and Link who'd been through all that to find their way to each other again. And maybe kiss about it.
Relationship status: Single and ready to mingle /Karan Johar voice
Last movie: I think it was genuinely Sword in the Stone for the group watch. Really epic of that movie to just like... stop. Woops, if I waited until the evening to do this I could have said Past Lives!. ETA: HOW DID I FORGET I WATCHED NIGHT OF THE HUNTER YESTERDAY????
Currently working on: Two megamix projects. One is of the idol songs that spent the most time at number one in Korea in 2023. The other is a gidle megamix but I've been waiting to see the key signatures for the new songs at the end of January
Tagging: @lilyavara @onetrueharem @ladytaetae @amarguerite @ponydeathisland @targaryeirene @bookslifeandeverythingelse @aethelflaedel @bonos-grindcore-sideproject

insecurities are like lizard people
Summary: Zelda comforts you after a nightmare. Well, she tries, anyway. It’s the thought that counts.
Warnings: Nightmares. Mentions of insomnia. Self-esteem issues, I guess. It gets a little fluffy. And dumb, because I wrote it. Gender-neutral reader. SFW.
Word count: 836
Notes: Not the first fic I’ve written, but this is my first time posting to Tumblr, and also my first time writing anything x reader. And currently I’m just ajkskjdskdkskdjfskdjkj Zelda. No thoughts, head empty, Zelda.
Tumblr media
You jolted awake, breathlessly panting into the darkened room. You could feel the frantic pounding of your heart against your ribcage, the sweat down your back, on your palms, on your face. Your nearly choking breaths were painfully loud in contrast to Zelda's quiet snores beside you.
Careful to avoid disturbing her sleep, you moved the duvet aside and climbed out of bed. The cold floor bit at the soles of your feet as you blindly entered the adjacent bathroom and closed the door.
You turned on one of the smaller lamps, not wanting to completely blind yourself before your eyes could adjust to the light. Head bent over the sink, you ran the tap and left your clammy hands underneath the cold stream of water for a few seconds. Splashing the water over your face had an instant calming effect. You felt your skin temperature reach something far more bearable than it had been just moments prior.
Turning off the tap, you leaned forward against the basin, unattentive eyes trained on the small tarnishes in the polished silver metal on the taps and the drain. You weren’t usually the type to get any kind of nightmares at all. Your sleep was typically pretty calm and uninterrupted — possibly the only few hours of peace and quiet you ever got — so nightmares often caught you completely off-guard whenever they decided to appear.
And usually they’d been pretty regular in nature too, like falling from a high building or being attacked by some monster you’d seen from a horror film, but never had you experienced one containing nothing but rejection before.
But it wasn’t like that nightmare had been uncalled for. When you compared yourself to your partner, it was enough to make you question whether anything between you two was genuine, or deserved to be so.
With your head still in a semi-confused space, like you were still partially dreaming, you turned the light back off, eyesight immediately adjusting to the pitch blackness, and climbed back into bed. The space you’d vacated hadn’t lost its warmth, and the small dent in the pillow from your head was still there.
“Did something happen?”
The sleepy murmur that came from beside you nearly frightened you out of your skin. Zelda had raised her head only slightly, eyes barely open, with her weight propped up against her elbows.
You tiredly shook your head and settled back into bed, attempting to resume your previous sleeping position. “Nothing. You can go back to sleep.”
She nodded, evidently not needing to be told twice, and rolled away from you to lay on her side. Her auburn hair was splayed across her pillow, yet somehow it never seemed to look tangled in the slightest, no matter how much she tossed and turned.
You shifted around so that you were laying on your back. Your eyes followed the simple random swirling patterns in the white ceiling above you.
“Zee?” you said quietly.
Zelda made a noise of acknowledgement, but only silence followed. You weren’t even sure how to begin to phrase or explain your feelings or your question. No words you could think of could summarise it in a way that would make sense, that would make your own thoughts and fears seem rational.
Bemused, Zelda turned back over. “What is it?”
You opened your mouth to answer, but found yourself struggling. Your eyes already felt heavy, but you had the feeling there wasn’t much more sleep to be had that night.
“Am I . . .” You hesitated, side-glancing at the powerful witch beside you, “am I even good enough for you? At all?”
Zelda sighed. “Are you really having a crisis of self now?”
“No, it’s fine.” You shook your head resignedly, pulling the sheets closer to yourself. “I’ll save it for tomorrow.”
There was another sigh, this one slightly deeper, as she turned over to face you, an arm draped over your waist. In fairness, with your half-lidded gaze still fixed on the ceiling, all she could see was half of your face.
“Worrying about things like that,” she began, her tone still sleepy and more relaxed than it usually was, “is like worrying that all of your loved ones are lizard people waiting to devour you any moment now. It’s just not true.”
You faintly smiled. “Lizard people?”
“Zip it, it’s 2 in the morning,” she retorted. She sleepily kissed your cheek as she settled back and closed her eyes. “Just sleep. Or don’t. Whatever you want, dear . . .”
“Thanks,” you whispered.
Behind the small humour in your tone, you were sincere. It was rather impossible to look at her and not wonder what kind of crazy magic had led you to someone like her in the first place. Not that you were complaining. It was hard to complain about that.
“‘Night, Zelda.” You curled up beside her and made a weak attempt at restraining a yawn. “Love you.”
The only response you received was a soft grunt as her arm tightened around your waist.

You know, the advice to “Never argue with an idiot” would be useful. Except if the idiot is a hotheaded menace that doesn’t know how to just accept no as an answer. It didn’t matter if he was monotone, inoffensive, and clear cut with his words, Blue would still try to pick a fight. At least with Vio, anyways. It’s as if he hates him specifically.
Absolutely ludicrous, what a jerk.
Perhaps he isn’t exactly being the most fair.
Vio’s brain feels as though it is filled with the harsh buzzing of a lightning rod. His thoughts spread far too thin between trying to solve the issues Zelda had been facing, (they all elected him to help Zelda with legalities and speeches because he was “super good with books and stuff”), to actually worry about what is happening in the moment.
His pounding headache only compounds the issue. And Blue’s grating voice doesn’t actually help. So if he very lightly snaps at him to shut up and quit acting like a child, he has to admit maybe a small part of him enjoys seeing Blue’s jaw snap shut with his ears turning red as he storms off.
Okay, perhaps he is being a tiny bit of a jerk, but Blue shouldn’t have dished out what he couldn’t take back.
The mess between aid programs, defense, and Hytopia is messy and horrible. Zelda isn’t the ruler of the kingdom, at least yet, but rather more of a public figure. She was in charge of ceremony, speeches, spiritual sanctions, complaints to the crown, and even had a role in high court cases. Her wisdom has always been renowned and she has a skill for the people. A true princess.
Of course she isn’t just the princess. She’s also his friend. And he knew she’d been through hell.
The horrors she saw and experienced herself? The destruction of her home and kingdom? The admittance of Vaati’s comments? The physical pain from the dark magic trying to use her as she tried so many methods she had never truly studied to escape? The lack of knowledge of what would happen? Finally, being so utterly needed by her people without a moment for anyone to truly care about her?
He knows the others share his deep resentment and inner infuriation. It wasn’t fair. They all put in whatever they could to lessen the load and listen and be there for her. Of course… It’s still rather awkward, for a lack of a better term. Zel had only really gotten so much mismatched information from her time imprisoned.
While she had managed to trick those dark entities into revealing their abilities, which she would use to destroy them with her light magic later on, she also was fed very distorted or entirely false accounts of the horrors that were befalling her land. As though playing with her like a cat to a mouse.
Zel had heard Link had been “shattered” or “split into pieces” but she hadn’t really been under the impression that her best friend became four separate people-
In the moment of the battle she seemed to take it in stride. She claimed she knew all along that Link was still alive due to the hints from the dark entities that surrounded her.
Besides, at the time, four best friends was far better than a possibly macabre and mutilated dead one. It was very clear after the explanation that she was… well she was certainly more accepting than their father who had…..expressed serious doubts about their validity and inherent being…..to say the least.
However, it was abundantly clear she hadn’t really adjusted to it. No one really had.
What does she see us as? What about Dad? What even are we?
Those were the intrusive thoughts that would stab Vio randomly as he shifted through documented complaints with Zelda, the moment a ripped monster would fall dead at his feet, or when he realized he could recognize each of their voices as distinct rather than identical.
Zelda had essentially ordered them to get some rest, as if she wasn’t the one who really needed it. She used their need for, well, every item as an excuse. Although to be fair, a lot of his own meager items were pretty dingy. It wasn’t exactly doing “her royal grace” any favors. He knew he couldn’t win any argument against Zelda though, even with his honor of “being the holder of the sacred brain cell” or whatever. He definitely didn’t smile at the title at all.
He tried not to let the thought of maybe she’s freaked out by us get to his head too much. But as the day progresses, he can’t stop thinking. He’s supposed to ‘rest his mind a bit and focus on the mundane’ but honestly after the whole “glorious quest”, as the King put it, he and the others are far too high strung to really stop the constant need to be doing something.
So there they had been bickering like children in public, as disorganized as ever. He did not give enough damns to actually stay with them, so he politely excused himself to the much quieter antique shop. Where they had apparently decided to come to squabble some more with each other and then question him as though he was the problem here.

“Honestly, Vio, where were you? You can’t just disappear like that when we have so much to do today!” Green frowned, crossing his arms in very obvious disapproval.
“I had told Blue I wanted to excuse myself to the shop, Green. If Blue didn’t relay that to you then it’s simply his fault,” came Vio’s dry response.
Blue’s head shot straight up,”Excuse me?!”
“Oh please, don’t you remember near the fruit stalls?” sharpened eyes challenged right back.
Both held firm gazes, each one eyeing the other with dirty, it was very clear those two were not ones to back down. All of Blue and Vio’s spats weren’t because of some real disagreement as far as Green was concerned. It was just that those two just apparently couldn’t stand the thought of the other one “winning.” Green had an idea where a lot of Link’s, ahem, “strong will” had gone.
Sure, Vio would act like he didn’t actually care and was “simply stating facts” but he already knew that Vio just defined winning in a different way than Blue did. Which meant riling Blue up on purpose as if to prove or say “See how much more rational I am?” It had taken a hot minute for Green to catch up on it and he wasn’t even sure if Vio knew what he was doing, but he did know that it was only counterproductive.
We were finally all good with working together, but it feels like we’re back at square one… Time to nip this in the bud.
“Guys, please,” Green sighs, near defeated, “Blue havent you argued with everyone enough?”
“Are you serious?! I’m just ‘beInG a PaRt Of ThE tEaM’ Green,” Blue griped as he practically shoved his finger in front of Green’s face.
Blue then turned his hunched shoulders to Vio, “Besides! Vio didn’t even tell me anything anyways.”
Vio scoffed, “Oh yes I did, I can recall you nodded your head and everything.” Vio said as he casually, yet pretentiously, leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
He’s acting flippant about the whole thing, gazing lazily off without a care,  Green notes. On purpose. And Blue kept on going and going without any stop. Seriously his insistent need to defend his ego was going to drag this on until Green reached his limit. He didn’t know what he’d do if that limit was ever broken, but he did know that today that limit was substantially smaller  than usual.
“Listen! You-”
Green cuts him off, “ No- you listen! You’ve been making everything worse, Blue!” and before Vio could get all smug about it, he quickly added “ You too Vio!”
Blue practically rolled his eyes with his entire body, “Are you seriously gonna blame me over the guy who had us looking in circles around the market, moron?”
Vio’s already opening his mouth, a sarcastic remark ready to spill without a thought, before Green claps his hand together with a little bit too much for than necessary to cut him off.
Breathe in, breathe out… Okay.
“Guys, okay fine- it doesn't matter “whose fault it is” could we please just try to move forward?”
Green sighs as his shoulders slump down, “Also Vio why did you even think separating would be a good thing to separate?” He can’t help but pinch his nose, “ I just… ugh i just wanna know so we can avoid this again,” he gestured broadly towards their group.
Blue just scoffs, rolling his eyes and staring out the window. Vio seems to stiffen for a moment and then he shifts and Green knows the argument has been relinquished. Finally..
“The crowd wasn't making me feel very well,” comes the vague response, “I am fine to continue though.”
“Wait,” Green gives a double take to study Vio for a moment, “You’re not sick or anything are you?”
Green really hoped Vio wasn’t sick or something. If he was then, man,  he really was off his game today wasn’t he? Oh Hylia, they’d been sharing beds and everything too! Vio already wasn’t that much of a talker but couldn’t he at least share he was getting ill?! At least so that no one else would get sick too!
Okay, he didn’t know that Vio was actually sick or anything but walking around in that loud, hot, and dusty market probably wouldn’t be making it any better if he was sick. Not to mention-
Stop that, you’re overthinking all the situations outcomes, Green. I can’t just keep thinking in battle mode all the time. Besides, this isn’t some life or death situation! Vio can think for himself too.
If I keep getting lost in my head like this, then I’ll be out of it when they actually do need me. You can do better than this. You have to.
“Green, believe me, I’m fine. I just needed a drink and I was fine.”
Oh yeah we’re mid conversation aren’t we? Hope he doesn’t think I was acting like a weirdo   being all pushy or anything.
“Okay then, if you say so,” Green nods, trying to play it confidently as ever.
Vio returns a lazy smile, shifting into a much looser pose, “I hope all your bickering with Blue wasn’t for nothing though, what's the plan?”
Green immediately brightens and straightens up, “oh yeah, of course! so we were going to…”

Alright, all he has to do is open a door. There’s no reason to delay such a menial task.
He stares ahead at the wood. It’ll need a fresh coat of paint.
Just three quick knocks.
The door opens.
It’s Link.
Or not really. It’s ‘Red’, as he had apparently dubbed himself. Opening the door with a chipper hello and smiling bright as the sun, he started mindlessly chatting about the trip to the tailors. He blindly nods along, listening numbly.
“Well, we didn’t really know if we should get, like, new tunics with just random colors but then we all figured that wouldn’t really make sense!” Red shrugs as he hurries back to the stove.
“Because wouldn’t it be hard to like, tell us apart? Cuz, I guess we are kinda color coded?”
“Hm? Ah yes, that is true.” It's a spaced out response and he knows it.
He just can't really listen to his kid right now. But this is Red, the very sensitive and childlike one. Hopefully the boy won’t pick up his mood, especially not with his obvious innocence. He’ll still have to pick up the slack on his subpar responses though. That is indeed the least he could do.
“Um, so I’m making some noodle soup,” he pauses, tilting his head slightly, “ I really hope you like it?”
Yeah, as much as he hates to admit it, Red is a sweet kid. It isn’t as though he hates them. Each one of Link. Far from it really, he’s just so…lost.
Really, what was he even supposed to do? Go back to normal when his kid just, freaking what? Went through mitosis? There weren’t exactly parenting books on your kid getting… cloned??? Hylia it was awful all around, was there even an explanation?
He’d thought them to be demons at first! The princess, that kind and wise soul, had later explained what had happened to him but as much as she was sweet (and probably right) he just couldn’t be satisfied. She’d always been the one to keep everyone, including Links, head straight. From what he could piece together, the four sword was supposed  to give its user the strength of four men, and then it was supposed to make four men literally,  and then it was supposed to put the different versions of Link back together into his son!
Garret just doesn’t have a son anymore. One could argue that’s because he technically has ‘multiple’ sons now, but really his son that he raised is gone. He doesn’t know what part of that is worse, in all honesty. He knows, logically, that they are still “technically” Link.
They all remembered him and see him as their father. They sure act like him at times too. If he let himself slip, it’d be like he was talking to Link, the only difference being that he seemed to be in a particular mood and was wearing an unusual tunic. If just for a moment, anyways.
Then, the illusion would shatter, splintered into millions of pieces by the smallest phrase or gesture or opinion that was just wrong. The Princess had explained that no, they weren’t just more of Link, but rather fractured pieces of him. Is he really just supposed to accept that?
The “colors”, as The Princess had “officially dubbed” jokingly, seem perfectly fine with their predicament though. He doesn’t understand any of this mess but he just has to trust the Princess. She was fine with this and she knew Link better than anyone, so if she advised Garret to just give it time until he understood, then he will.
If he got a few more gray hairs then so be it. It wasn’t like Link being the main factor of his aging was something new after all. Hopefully it just wasn’t sped up at four times the rate.
Unfortunately, Garret knows that he’s still their dad, and he does have a job to do. He can certainly handle this, perhaps he’s simply overreacting. He still loves Link and therefore he loves them too. He just needs to understand them and give it time. Step by step. For now, he’ll just push that moral guilt, discomfiture, regrets, grief, and incomprehensible situation away where it can be dealt with later.
He sighs. “Say, where are the others?”
