you’re genuinely one of the best touhou artists i’ve ever seen, i love your work and style so much! it makes me super nostalgic too ❤️💕🥺 do you think you’ll have commissions open any time soon? (or do you maybe plan on drawing a yuyuko in the future hehe)
Thank you thank you!!!! I don’t think I’ll be able to officially do commissions for a long time because the strength in my hands dwindles and can be unpredictable. If I opened multiple slots, all the drawing could take a toll on me, and honestly typing can be painful sometimes if my tendonitis flares.
Still, I do $6 sketch requests to Kofi and Patreon members, and honestly I tend to over detail and sometimes color the drawings. 🙇♀️ In the short term, that’s the only thing I’ve got up.
Also! I absolutely have plans to draw yuyuko sooner or later! I’ve got some plans to eventually draw a chibi of every Touhou as is, and a fullbody of my redesigns(maybe to compile in a Touhou fashion zine/pdf one day🤔)

Prologue: Part 2
Youmu arrived at her flower shop. The first person she planned to recruit was her employee, Namika Furutani. A human who had found herself in Gensokyo a couple of years ago. "Namika? Are you here?" She called out as she entered.
Namika pops her head out from the back room. "Oh, hey. Yeah I'm here." She has a mostly blank expression, indicating that it's been a pretty slow day. "I was just having lunch."
"I have a job for you, if you're interested in doing something? Yuyuko asked me to investigate something, so I'd like your help if possible." Youmu said as she made her way towards the back room.
"A job? But I already have a job here at the flower shop." Namika said tilting her head. "Are you telling me to quit this job and take that job instead?"
"Hm? Oh no no, nothing like that. This is just something separate. Let me fill you in on the details." Youmu explains what Yuyuko had told her about the strange thing going on at the Forest of Magic.
"In the Forest of Magic? Isn't that dangerous? Especially for humans? That's what I've heard from people around the village at least."
"Actually, the job I have for you won't involve you being in there for too long." Youmu approaches a strange purple plant that she had been growing recently. "This is a special flower I've been growing lately. The seeds are imbued with a little bit of magic, courtesy of Miss Patchouli Knowledge. We've been working together on making this plant and turning it into tea which will help humans travelling through the Forest of Magic not get sick. So I want you to test it out."
"...So I'm an experiment?"
"W-well yes, I guess you would be. But I want you to also take this plant with you." She picks up a black flower. "This flower is basically immortal. It can only die if it's severed. I want you to take this plant into the forest and see if it dies. While you're doing that, I'll be investigating deeper into the forest."
"I guess I can do that. Do I get paid for it?" She'll do it anyway, but she just wants to see if she can earn some money at the same time.
"Of course! I'll make sure you're paid!"
"Okay then. Count me in."
"Great! I need to go meet with another couple of people, so I'll return soon."
Namika has joined the party!

So I've been rewatching the revue starlight relive arcana arcadia main story (I made it partway through the third one before I stopped playing, planning on watching all the way through this time), and noting down some thoughts on Part 1:
I like how much of this part is about Tamao, and how abruptly she's changed! Rinmeikan Downfall story was a hell of a time for her, and it's great to see her shed some of her helpful kind self-effacing senpai persona and lean into being a leader and a bit of a schemer. Also it seems to be doing wonders for her acting!
About the revues themself: on the one hand we have Rui vs. Yuyuko, two best friends with a love triangle tearing at them. On the other we have Junna vs. Kaoruko, who... are in the same class? Do they have any kind of beef? I'm not sure they've ever had a conversation. This also happened in the anime, though mainly as a background thing: whenever we saw other revues in the background of the focused one, it would just be random combinations since the auditions were pretty much a round robin.
Also, RIP Junna, whose role in Revue Starlight is mainly getting bodied in round one. I think this does help define her character though: person who is not naturally talented but works hard is pretty common in anime, but it's mostly undercut when they start winning as an underdog. Meanwhile Junna keeps getting beat, because basically everyone around her is both talented and hardworking. But she just keeps trying and working and aiming to improve.
It sucks for Junna, but it's a good character note for Kaoruko: as soon as she takes things seriously, she starts winning. She just mostly doesn't put in that effort in daily life, and winds up slipping behind only to make up the ground all at once. This of course feels deeply unfair: we see her opponent clearly with the upper hand, and more deserving of the win, and then Kaoruko will put together some motivation in the second half and instantly curbstomp them. She is genuinely as good as she thinks she is!
For Rui and Yuyuko's revue: a good push for character growth for Rui, who this section points out has the potential to rocket into being one of the best actors like Nana did, but mostly lets herself fade into being a supporter. Absolutely heartbreaking for Yuyuko, who has spent the entire story falling in love with her best friend, who is blatantly in love with someone else. Please read some Sasameki Koto and experience emotions. A bit of (condensed) dialogue, from after Rui (as always) calls out for Tamao:
I'm the one who's standing on the stage with you right now.
You see... I like your acting. It's clumsy and pure... But you always try your hardest and occasionally appear really big...
Just like you love Tamao-senpai... I also love you on stage.
Yet... You say you can no longer play those roles without Tamao-senpai. If those performances were all done for Tamao-senpai... those of "us" who have had our hearts stolen by the Stage Girl Rui Akikaze... how pathetic.
For the story segment, very funny that the evil religious authority is explicitly catholic (the vatican guard!), given that the story is mostly fairytale-like otherwise. I think there's also a continuation of the anime's themes there, in how the Hanged Man rejects the High Priestess's faith and miracles and embraces the curse of damnation in order to follow his principles and save lives. Reminds me of Karen refusing to accept that the ambition Hikari had was a sin.
And now that I've brought up Starlight, I'm wondering if there's a connection there with this amnesiac star girl searching for someone she made a promise with, kept away at the end of the moonlight... Starlight also uses lost memories, and the original ends with one of the two locked away high above, and the other cast out to wander blindly.

So uh, I kinda ended up binging Wendigoon, as his stuff is, very hifuu. Some of his out of context clips felt like what Renko and Merry's discussions would look like to people who are passing by them, so I made this.
The set is the same one I made for Hearn, but with a lot of things overhauled. I'm especially happy with how the subtle wood details in the chairs look!

So, I watched Wendigoon's Faith, The Unholy Trinity stream, and I was trying out modelling, so I thought, "Why not model a hand?" and then I modelled it up to the shoulder, then I copied everything from the wrist to the shoulder, made it bigger, stitched it to the shoulder, and did this like twice more. Then made a lot of hands, so this is kinda like the cover-art monster from the game, but it's, at least in this animation, Yukari's gap monster. I then thought I was not making a lot of stuff with Sumireko in it, so I decided to make her do the Father Garcia pose after shooting the hands~
The sound design in this was very fun, The monster movement sound is a lot of vegetables being crushed layered, the shot sound is 2 shotgun sounds layered, and the pump sound is, I think the same as the one in Ultrakill, plus a more realistic one. The scream is uh, like, 8 layers of slowed down goat sounds.

So basically I had seen the Yuyuko version of the lightning guy gif some time ago and I don't remember why but as I was lazing in my bed watching YouTube, I got the idea to animate it, then I jumped out of the bed and quickly opened Blender. I felt like I needed to get the idea out as soon as possible, and it was short and I had the lightning effect on hand, so I just made it.
My biggest complaint is WHY IS IT YOUTUBE SHORTS UGH
YouTube apparently makes every video shorter than a minute and not widescreen a Short WITHOUT CARING IF YOU WANT TO MAKE IT A SHORT OR NOT. so yeah, besides that, a pretty short and simple project.
14) Hifuu Combat - Danmaku Unknown

This is the latest animation I completed so far, and I consider it my best as of now, besides some minor issues*
I got into Ace Combat in the summer mostly because of my other friends online getting into it, and I thought the gameplay concept was similar to a bullet hell, and thought of a Jet VS Danmaku Animation, Of course starring Renko and Merry. Because I like them.
The main inspiration came however when I was listening to Magic Spear, from the Ace combat OST, and realized "Wait this is literally bad apple" And made a mashup, unfortunately it didn't fit in with the scene I had in mind, but it was the main thing that made me do this, kinda. Here's what it sounds like:

After that, I kept listening to the OST and thought Daredevil fit what I had in mind the best, I had watched the latest Top Gun, so I wanted to animate a cobra maneuver.
I modelled the Rocket myself and the gap shader, it was very fun to make. For the danmaku I used a particle system with curves as force fields, but for the butterflies I used Geo Nodes. For the explosion I also used Geo Nodes. It does have some transparency issues though.
For the jet motion, I added some noise to make the jet sway and move a little, to look more natural. Camera shake was critical to make everything fit together and work.
I began this in July, so it took like 6-7 months (?) in total, but not a lot of it was spent on the animation honestly, considering how many animations I made between the time I began this and finished it. I Kept delaying this, so I set a deadline for myself, the 12th of December, 12/12, 1(Hi) 2(Fu) 1(Hi) 2(Fu) Day, The Super Hifuu day. I BARELY managed to make it in time, and honestly it was quite stressful, but this is literally the first time I made a deadline myself and managed to complete it, so it's a win for me~!
*I stitched the models together myself, Using Takarabako's Hifuu club edits' heads and military work outfit bodies, however, I also had accidentally deleted all the physics. I noticed this a few months in. I had to rebuild the physics stuff last minute, like, I did them in THE LAST DAY, and they are not perfect by any means, but I felt like I had to post it before delaying it any more.
I began this in July, so it took like 6-7 months (?) in total, but not a lot of it was spent on the animation honestly, considering how many animations I made between the time I began this and finished it
I'm hoping that I'll be able to make even more next year!

if you had the choice to meet one touhou character irl (assuming your personal safety is a priority) who would it be and why
me and w.d. gaster had this exact discussion once except they were fully allowed to murder you if they felt like it
the specifics: you and one 2hu of your choice are locked together in a white void. you are both spawned around a table, chairs, and meal in the middle (it is irrelevant what). this white void is separate from both our universe and touhou’s. both of you will be sent back home after one hour and the 2hu will lose all memories of this event happening (you won’t tho)
this is basically just a specific way of asking “what 2hu would you sit down with and try to talk to for an hour”
he immediately suggested sumireko which i countered with “sumireko is just some high schooler i ain't tryna talk to a woman for an hour straight”
yukari would be a good pick because
-generally respectful
-extremely wise and would probably be down to talk philosophy (dude imagine talking philosophy with someone thousands of years old. enlightening)
-probably wouldn't kill me if i'm not a dick?
rinnosuke would be interesting just because he’s super interested in the outside world so he’d just ask you questions. i wouldn’t be able to break it to him that he isn’t actually going to remember any of this afterwards.
the worst picks would definitely be flandre or rumia. rumia is just giving you a slow and agonizing death but even if flandre doesn’t want to eat you she’s still probably going to be interested in some form of traumatizing you
the worst pick that wouldn’t hurt you has got to be eiki just because she’d yell at you any time you (pesky mortal) try and interrupt the silence she wishes to dine in
both orin and komachi would probably only want to talk about death and ways you could die. like they’d be really relaxed and non threatening the entire time but i really doubt they’d be up for a more comfortable conversation topic
sanae would probably just want to ask about mecha anime as soon as she finds out you’re from the outside world
aunn lunges at your neck after you turn your head a little too fast due to her underlying pitbull genes
alice would only want to talk about her dolls for the entire hour and it would get really creepy after 5 minutes but that wouldn’t stop her
i think if yuuka didn’t like the meal she would split your head open and feast on your brain just because she’s bored
marisa would be a pretty fun conversation actually, not to mention you could have her tell you about magic which i’m sure is extremely fun
okuu and you have a funny conversation for 10 minutes before she has the idea to see if she can break out of the white void by nuking it. you die in the process
mystia would be awesome if i can bend the rules where she has access to a grill and a supply of fresh lamprey. i have GOT to try those damn eels of hers
yuyuko would be pleasant but she’d steal your food and you’d be kind of hungry. fatass
kaguya or mokou see the white void and immediately think “oh i’m getting fucking pranked by that immortal bitch” and try to commit suicide to get out of it. they come back to life 5 minutes later very pissed off that they’re still not in gensokyo
junko has a nice meal with you if your skin color is up to her standards

It was dusk by the time Youmu would return to the Hakugyokurou from her weekly shopping trip. It had been a somewhat disquieting journey across Gensokyo this time, the half-phantom picking up on quite a few rumours. That the Hakurei shrine maiden hadn’t been seen for the better part of a week in the Human Village. That the cable cars that the kappa took to reach Moriya Shrine stopped running yesterday and still hadn’t resumed operation. That no one came to pick up the dresses ordered by the Scarlet Devil Manor. But Youmu had bigger things to deal with! After all, Yuyuko always got hungry around this hour, and usually greeted Youmu by begging for food once she got home.
...But not this time. No, the halls of the Netherworld were oddly quiet as the half-phantom entered. Perhaps her mistress was sleeping? Or Yukari may be visiting and occupying the ghost?... Whatever it is that Youmu expected when she entered Yuyuko’s room, it certainly wasn’t this.
“Youhhmuuh! Rhhun! “ Gloooooourrrrrp......
A massive, gurgling orb laid across Yuyuko’s bed, a human-shaped bulge protruding against its walls lashing and pounding. It took a second to realize that said figure was Yuyuko. It took a bit longer to recognize the orb as someone’s stomach, as Youmu’s vision would drift up to the leering horse
“Apologies, ma’am. Would of dealt with all this faster if I’d knew to expect company.” Saki spoke, her tone of voice conveying a lack of any real contrition “I’ll be able to squeeze you in soon enough, don’t you worry.”

I really like timeout spellcards.
They're often some of the hardest parts of any given fight simply because you're forced to endure.
My big example of this is Shinmyoumaru. Overall not the hardest final boss. Her Shining Needle Sword is a bit of a handful, but other than that it's all very managable.
And then there's the timeout spell where she fucks with your hitbox.
To be fair, it'd be difficult if it was set up as a regular spellcard too, because you're thrown into such cold water. Your hitbox is an eternal constant and now it's changed.
I have a firm feeling for it and even if its relative size is still the same, it still messes with me really badly.
Any normal spellcard is unlikely to take more than thirty seconds if you're not driven to the sidelines and unable to deal damage. It might feel longer, but it's usually a brief affair.
But it's not just that you can't simply burst timeout spellcards down by dealing damage.
It's also not just having to hold out for such an unusually long time, it's that they're usually designed in a way that regular spellcards aren't.
Since you're not able to attack the boss anyway (short of very few exceptions (I can name two)), it doesn't have to be laid out in a way to allow you to line yourself up with the target.
The boss will often be positioned in the center of the screen instead of at the top, move all over the place or just be gone entirely and you're then forced to also move all over the place. Stream targeted stuff all around the area, handle projectiles from every direction and such.
Attacks that come from above or diagonally above are the easiest to dodge. It's the most common angle of attack and you're the most used to it. As soon as bullets come from behind or even from the sides, it shakes me up. It's unfamiliar.
But that's what's so good about them. In being allowed to chase you across the entire playing field, timeout spells can have a lot more different patterns. Often very thematic ones too.
Just think of Koishi's Youkai Lie Detector, where she scans a line around the screen that generates bullets relative to your position and to pass through it you have to make sudden, jerking motions to create a gap. You have to trip up the lie detector.
Or Nue's Nightmare of Heiankyou. The way she traps you in a grid and then chases you around with a big laser slug is really nice. It's also terrifying, because you're on her second to last spellcard and UFO isn't one of the games that has Spellcard practice (it only came back with Ten Desires after its one-time appearance in Imperishable Night) and this innately high tension rounds it out quite nicely.
The way you're surprised with the Saigyou Ayakashi Reflowering timeout was great after fighting Yuyuko, who already has more spellcards than the average final boss.
Mountain of Faith has one as early as Stage 4, on Aya, who steadily ramps up the pressure and forces you to the bottom of the screen, which is always scary.
The way timeout spells gradually up the pressure over time is also something that's usually limited to Stage 6 or Ex Boss final spellcards, which up the challenge at specific health thresholds and it's really nice.
They start out pretty manageable. You get a feel for what it's going for and then it gets harder. More density, extra layers, already used aspects combined but as the timer ticks down you also see the spell circle shrink. It's a much more easy to see timer than the actual timer in the corner of the screen and it always gets so tense when the spell is about to expire and you're at the height of focus, especially if you managed to not make a mistake yet and then it ends and you breathe a sigh of relief. This is especially potent when the timeout spell is the final one like with Reflowering or Danmaku Bounded Field.
Of course there can also be a lot of bad feelings with these. If you just don't vibe with a timeout spell, it's bound to seriously drain your resources or be a total roadblock for you. If it goes on for a minute, you're going to have to sink an unreasonable amount of bombs and/or extends into it and I think that might be a reason why there haven't been any timeouts outside of Extra Stages in recent games.
It's understandable, but I think having some on earlier bosses could be nice. That way they wouldn't have to be too taxing or last too long but we'd still get them.
Aya's Illusionary Dominance is pretty threatening, but even if you're not that good at handling it, as "just" a Stage 4 spellcard, it's not the worst.
Timeout spells can show their user's personality and style in a way that regular ones can't and I'd like it if there were more of them sprinkled here and there again.
Could even do what IN does and have them as stakeless attacks after the fight is over that are unlocked by fulfilling certain conditions. If it's like that it lacks the tension that I like so much in them, but there won't be any bad feelings.

-murasa and wakasagihime are friends! and i want the grassroots youkai network to be friends with seija she gave yall an opportunity to establish yourselves during that whole incident and then you just go hunting her when its not going in her favor smh. tsukumos and raiko you too. but seija might explode if too many people thought positively of her so maybe its for the best
-murasa teleport-paces when hes nervous. just teleporting around aimlessly. it makes that vrrrn noise that it makes ingame during sinker ghost too
-seija likes whittling but many people refuse to let her have sharp objects :(
-yoshika is unsettlingly tall. big ol pillar of zombie
-murasa is creeped out by yoshika even though he is also undead
-clownpiece likes to cite blatantly incorrect facts about the USA sometimes. its better this way. unsure if she does it on purpose or genuinely just doesnt know
-junko is autistic and clownpiece is autistic and as soon as they met they were just Instant Autism Communications. new daughter acquired. hecatia is adhd too
-elaborating on junko autism: she is the type to take everything quite literally and its easy to mistake some of that for just her being Made Of Angry and occasionally missing nuance bc of that but she was like that when she was human too. also shes a picky eater. she is not aware shes autistic. hecatia has a feeling but its not rly her business
