Determination (Undertale)
(A little snippet I wrote on a whim a loooong time ago when I was emo about the Flowey boss fight. The implications of the respawn mechanic in this game will always haunt me /pos)
CWs: Death, body horror(?)
-
You are The Human, and you are about to die.
Your hands shake, and so you grip your little stick tighter to stop them. You will not use this weapon, however primitive it may be, but having something between you and your opponent gives you a small comfort. You take it when you can get it.
You are The Human, and you are facing your worst nightmare.
He hangs from the darkness, impossibly large, parts of him fading into the abyss that is your battlefield. His face is perpetually twisted into a terrifying grin that you know has already seared itself into your memory. His eyes are wild with bloodlust, and there is no sympathy within them.
You are The Human, and this is a fight you cannot win.
Your breath shudders in your young lungs. You've been through this before, and you know it truly isn't that bad. You will always wake up again.
Flowey moves impossibly fast, and an agony you cannot describe cracks through your very being as your SOUL shatters.
...
> CONTINUE?
> YES
...
You are The Human, and you've died in this fight thirty-eight times.
You are The Human, and you still haven't given up.
You have people you need to save. Friends you've made along this journey. Friends you've died for over and over and over. Friends you are willing to die for again, a thirty-ninth time.
A light stirs within you. A warmth so powerful you feel it in your very being, and it washes away your exhaustion and frustration.
You are The Human, and you are determined.
You are The Human, and you are monster-kind's last hope.
You are The Human, and you will not give up. Not yet.
END.
