hello my good sir, is this piece yours perhaps?
I legit don't know whether something is from you or from a piece of history anymore... though I would say that your blog is a piece of history too!

Thanks for writing! That amazing item is from the brilliant @yesterdaysprint . They are absolutely wonderful. You can’t beat actual reality for weirdness! (And yes, that headline is 100-percent real!)

When they cut to Edwards, and he was looking down reading, I was like “shit this is it” and he looked up and said it.. shivers!
I have a bunch of messages from the day of the queen’s death still in my inbox and it’s very fun to read them back. This is a great one because I had the same feeling. It wasn’t out of any sadness, just more of a feeling that this is not a situation I know how to handle. They had been going to the studio and then showing the video of front of Balmoral and the airport and such for ages and then suddenly it cut to Hugh Edwards without warning and just that split second before he spoke you knew but he hadn’t said it yet. Such a weird experience, there won’t be anything else like it!

64 years ago today, the following notice was printed.
Stole two potatoes sentenced to three months.
Two potatoes have cost a 20 year old seaman three months of hard labour. He had been with his father at a cabin on Ljuster Island. The father had gone home but the sun stayed behind. In the evening he grew hungry and wanted a couple of potatoes with the can of pickled herring he had.
He broke into the neighbouring house and took a pair of potatoes as well as 73öre that were laying on a counter top. The court agreed with the prosecutor that this was pure theft.

Some day I will get myself together enough to consolidate into a news clippings/public domain art & images/random odds and ends I find on the Internet Archive sideblog but tonight is not that day

Gah something I posted was tweeted by someone else on twitter and went a little viral - usually I just ignore it, but another person @‘d me in their reply saying something like “I hate when people repost [yesterday’s prints] stuff without credit” and I logged on at lunch to a million notifications of the OP and other people saying I shouldn’t get any credit. I definitely don’t think of any of my clippings as “mine” - but it’s still ouch!!! I have very thin skin haha.
That's so annoying on two fronts! Obviously the fact that someone took what you'd found. We're all capable of slipping up, I know I do it all the time. But I know how much work you put in. And the defence you always hear is "but you didn't write it/take the picture/film the video. Anyone can do it." Which is true. But if anyone can do it, why don't they? You're working hard to find these article excerpts and by doing so you're saving other people time, you're essentially providing a service to them! And what I love is the fact you carefully pick things so they are often really relevant to current news stories. All your pandemic ones were so fun, getting to see how little people have changed in a century haha. So it's not just screen shotting and posting, you're curating things for people. But then to add insult to injury, you didn't even complain. This really really bugs me. Criticise people for what they say and do, by all means. But don't criticise them for something a total stranger said. You didn't ask anyone to swoop in for you and people don't seem to care that their attacks on that person - which in itself is weird, get over it - will ricochet to you when you did absolutely nothing.
Ugh, I'm sorry! Ignore them if you can!

This single post is the most popular thing I've ever posted on tumblr (except a medieval illustration of a cat carrying a penis in its mouth that Tumblr deleted)
