🍰 Happy Aye-Aye Birthday 🍰
🎉 Remembered Ozma! 🎉
Ozma (♀)
Stud# 115
~October 11, 1985 - May 3, 2019
Ozma was born around October 11, 1985 on the wild of Madagascar. Ozma was caught on October 11, 1991 along with her ~4 month old son, Davy. From there, they were both transferred to Ivoloina on October 14, 1991. Davy and Ozma were separated in Ivoloina. Ownership of Ozma was claimed by the Duke Lemur Center on December 13, 1991 and Ozma was transferred to Yemassee. Ozma wasn't sent to the DLC until January 19, 1992.
Ozma had (7) offspring:
(1) with an unknown, wild male:
• son, Davy, (~June 11, 1991 – April 7, 2006)
(6) with Mephistopheles at the Duke Lemur Center:
• son, Goblin, (October 23, 1992 - February 5,
1998)
• daughter, Ozma-A, (October 22, 1995 -
October 26, 1995)
• son, Warlock, (June 16, 1998)
• son, Ozeny-Avelo, (October 25, 2001 –
January 19, 2015)
• daughter, Medusa, (October 14, 2003)
• daughter, Styx, (September 1, 2010 –
March 22, 2020)
Ozma was with the Duke Lemur Center for 28 years! At around 33 years old, she was the second oldest Aye-Aye in captivity in the USA (Endora is still the oldest Aye-Aye in captivity in the USA at 36.9 and going strong and Mamy is the eldest Aye-Aye in the world at 40.5 years old!).
We just learned that Ozma passed away last May (May 3, 2019) at the Duke Lemur Center. Ozma was a matriarch queen!
Photo: Ozma always loved her eggs! She is around 27 years old in this photo (estimated to have been born in 1985). Photo taken February 17, 2011. Credit to David Haring (Duke Lemur Center)

🍰 Remembered Mephistopheles 🍰
Mephistopheles (♂)
Stud#114
~October 8, 1981 - February 12, 2014
Mephistopheles was born in the wild of Madagascar around October 8, 1981. He was caught on October 8, 1991 and transfered to Ivoloina on October 14, 1991. From there, Mephistopheles was transferred to Yemassee on December 13, 1991 and then transferred to the Duke Lemur Center on January 19, 1992.
Mephistopheles stayed at The DLC from January 19, 1992 until June 15 1993. On June 16, 1993, he was loaned to the Cincinnati Zoo.
Mephistopheles didn't stay at the Cincinnati Zoo long (June 16, 1993 - September 27, 1993). On September 28, 1993, he was transferred back to the DLC. He stayed at the DLC till April 11, 1994, only to be loaned back out to the New York Bronx Zoo on April 12, 1994.
Mephistopheles stay at the Bronx Zoo was another brief loan (from April 12, 1994 to August 10, 1994). On August 11, 1994, he was back on the road, again, this time on loan to the Philadelphia Zoo.
Mephistopheles stayed at the Philadelphia Zoo from August 11, 1994 to March 23, 1995. On March 24, 1995, he returned to the DLC. The next year, he went traveling, again, on loan to the Denver Zoo. He arrived in Denver on October 27, 1996 and stayed there until November 4, 1997.
On November 5, 1997, Mephistopheles finally returned to the DLC for good and remained there until he passed on February 12, 2014.

We recieved a picture of Mephistopheles from the Denver Zoo. This would be from his stay there sometime between October 27, 1996 until November 4, 1997. Many thanks to Kelly Denton for finding this photo!
