#yeah you'll be seeing more of these traditional-styled art

I absolutely adore every AU you come up with, but I was actually curious if you had already or were considering writing a traditional DCAxReader? Hopefully I can kick this art block soon because there is so much fanart I want to draw of your stories :) Hope your week is going well! (besides the roof disaster ^^;;;)
On another note... AUs are my brainrot and I keep thinking about that post about the large bed... and spoopy ghosts. Clipgeist? No running away from something that can follow you to the ends of the Earth. Poor Y/Ns just can't catch a break lol
I have a few canon stories with the DCA x Reader on my Ao3 but nothing as grand or long as my AUs! I do have a 'canon' story plotted but I don't know when I'll write it. Hopefully one day!
Ah, that's so exciting! I hope you can chisel that art block down hehe
It's going good (aside from the roof ;-;) I have this week of school before we go on break for Thanksgiving and it can't come soon enough!
Shaking your hand so hard rn!! I love AUs! And a spooky ghost one? Oh ho, I've always wanted to write a domestic monster scenario!
Perhaps Y/N moves into an old, old house with steep roofs, pointed arches above the windows and doors, and a lovely porch. It's two and a half stories tall (the half story is attic space under the roof rafters) with a four-story central spired tower! All dark wood and even darker interiors. You can't desire if it's Dracula's castle or a fairytale home for the happily ever-after-ed prince and princess. It's even got a secret underground tunnel! What more do you need when flipping a home? You love restoration and you intend to keep all its gothic charm while updating it to be, well, livable.
It's also incredibly cheap! Like, stupid cheap, for something that should be incredibly pricey for its prestige style and historical value. Not that you've ever looked a gift horse in the mouth, but even you have second thoughts before ultimately snatching up the house key.
The first night is always unsettling—maybe you hear a voice whisper in your ear despite it being dead silent and there's not a soul for miles, but you'll brush that off as getting spooked by old ghost stories your brain conjures up within the ornate decorated rooms.
From there, things get stranger and stranger still. Your paintbrush is moved and you know you didn't set it there because of the wet paint dripping onto the floor. The electricity is ever fickle, turning off at the most opportune moments during the night, like when you swear you saw a figure standing at the end of the hallway, all thin and scraggly with a ghostly smile and an inhuman head framed with wavering energy that almost seems to glow like embers in the dark!
Still, you continue your repairs and restorations, sometimes softly talking to yourself out loud and talking to the house like it's a wounded animal you intend to restore back to its fittest with all the love you can pour out of your heart. Places need love, too.
The most obnoxious thing is that you can't access the tower—the door is always locked, and no matter what key you try, it refuses to budge. You don't dare risk causing damage by prying it open, but you swear you'll get into that tower one day. There's got to be treasure inside with how mysteriously it stands, just out of your reach. Though, you've mostly put it aside for now. Whenever you jingle keys in the lock, you swear you hear a voice grow angry with you, and the hallway becomes so cold you can see your breath.
So, yeah, you're saving that for later.
The pivotal moment of you even considering a haunting is one night when you find yourself overwhelmed and stressed from the ever-growing list of chores and how everything is falling apart faster than you can fix it. You dissolve on the living room floor into thick tears. You're usually so put together, even when alone. You hate crying. There's no one to hold you together except yourself, so why fall apart in the first place?
Your little moment of getting it out is interrupted when a quilt falls over your shoulders. A soft, heavy quilt of midnight skies and dotted pale blue stars that was never in this room.
You leap to your feet, quilt falling away, and call out in classic horror victim fashion, "Who's there?" but no one answers. In frozen terror, you stare at the room, expecting something, anything to jump out or scream at you, but it's so, so quiet. All is still, like apologetic comfort.
That couldn't have happened. No draft, no forgetfulness could explain how a quilt was draped over you as if by a concerned friend.
You stare at the quilt and decide that you've had a long day. You go to your room, unable to relax even once you're under the covers, feeling something cold and misty above your bed.
When you wake in the morning, that starry quilt is draped over your lying form. You did not put it there.
Something or someone else tucked it around you.

Maybe you have some drawing tips for beginners?
Your style is incredibly beautiful and it just inspires this thing inside me to grab my iPad and start drawing but unfortunately I have no idea where to even begin
Or maybe you have some recs where to look to learn how to draw stuff?
But I understand completely that it’s your thing and artists should never feel pressured to share all their techniques and secrets, you worked hard on it!
I just really really love your art to the point where I just look at it for 30 minutes straight with this big feeling in my chest
<3
ah it was never about being secretive, i'm pretty open about my drawing process since gatekeeping knowledge is a big pet peeve of mine. It was more like,, laziness because writing a cohesive and helpful drawing tutorial is pretty difficult and i wouldn't even know where to start; i'm afraid i'll get maybe too technical and what have you.
As for tips for beginners, i've shared plenty on my couriouscat so you can scroll through the answers there, i also have some drawing timelapses on my twitter account as well (albeit you'll have to scroll a little)
I'm very flattered you feel that way about my art, it really means a lot to me and i'm glad to have inspired you to draw as well that's awesome and i wish you best of luck!
I actually don't know how different drawing on an iPad is compared to a graphic tablet+desktop, so I am actually pretty clueless in that regard. I think Procreate is the most used digital art app for iPad so you can start by getting it and familiarizing yourself with the UI. I think this step is often overlooked. The brushes and the chosen program can make or break the drawing experience. If you simply find yourself not enjoying Procreate, experiment with other apps or maybe try switching to a graphic tablet, maybe that feels better and is more suited to your tastes.
To be completely honest, one "bad" piece of advice that i should probably keep to myself is to draw something you actually enjoy: fanart, Pretty Girl Portrait(tm), your cat, landscapes etc even if it's above your skill level (becoming obsessed/ fixated on some character from a piece of media also works wonders i'm just gonna throw that out there). The main point is to actually care about your chosen subject in order to get inspired and to have that inner desire of "doing them justice" aka drawing them well. The traditional art learning route probably involves studying the fundamentals, shading spheres and cones and simple 3D forms blablbablah which. Yeah ! sure that's probably better advice but i'm telling you what will make you want to keep going and not get discouraged after a few failed attempts.
As for the drawing subject, I highly recommend having photo references to guide you.. you always need refs it's a recurring thing. My fastest artworks are the ones where I have the right references. the less references the more difficult it is to draw something
As a beginner it is also a good practice to draw OVER your photo reference to get the proportions right ( i'm not talking about literally tracing the contour of a face or limb ( just an example ), but moreso identifying the Main shape which makes up that body part and observe how long is it in respect to the other components, how does it connect to the other parts etc - big difference. Tracing won't help you in the long run).
Another thing you can do is to study your favourite artists and see how They tackle whatever it is that you like in their work. how do they simplify facial features? what about anatomy? color/ light etc and kinda reverse engineer your way through their process. ( but i highly recommend to just keep these practice sketches to yourself, and to not share them on social media- unless you get the artist's permission)
This is how i got into drawing and what i did back then, again, for more technical hands-on information i did answer similar CCs before so with a little bit of stalking you'll find them in no time
I wanna finish this with some resources that helped me:
>youtube guys - sinix, ahmed aldoori, marco bucci, and also just speedpaints in general i highly recommend watching those
>for simplified anatomy i found @/ taco1704 's ref sheets to be very helpful but ........... I'm pretty dry here i just look up refs on Pinterest tbvh
speaking of, here's my pinterest i have a bunch of art related boards board cool stuff overall maybe they can help guide you towards some direction or inspire you in some way idk
ok i kinda suck in the resource department listeN. im starving too just.................. watch youtube speedpaints ok
SORRY IT'S SO LONGGGBGGG i hope it was at least a bit helpful? this was all over the place... I'll try to come up with a tutorial as well but i really gotta be careful with how i go about it. I'll leave you with this for the time being. Again, thank you a lot for the kind words, I really am very grateful and touched esp by that last part about staring with the big feeling stuff eeeeeeeeeeeeee really wow T T that's so lovely and a big compliment thanks ty ly

do u have any art tips?
Why yes i do! And i feel honored you asked :D
First off; the single best thing i've ever done when it comes to improving my art is deciding to draw everyday. It doesn't even have to be that much, just as long as you put pen to paper each day you'll find that it helps to keep you in that creative mindset. However, starting off isn't all that easy. Initially i told myself i'd only draw everyday for a month, and i used a list of daily prompts, so without even realizing it, I allieviated a lot of pressure. But i can imagine getting told to 'just draw everyday' can be a lot for someone who isn't used to doing so. So my advice is to first try it for a period of time, and to see if it's something you'd enjoy. Daily prompts are also a great way to get ideas for your drawings, especially starting off. I used them for about 4-5 months after starting (@/artpromptcal on ig), and then ideas started coming to me naturally :))
Second; USE REFERENCES!! And i mean really use them. Trace photos, trace other people's art (just to study tho ofc), get inspired by other people's styles, etc. Pinterest is a great place to look for references, and i regret not using it sooner.
And finally; mix it up! Try using different media, try both traditional and digital art (even if the only drawing program you have access to is mspaint), and so on! Everything is an art supply if you're brave enough! It can help keep art interesting, and your creations varied :))
Actually one more thing i can add is to NEVER THROW OUT YOUR OLD ART. NEVER. Even if you hate it and think it looks bad, DON'T. There's no easier way to track your progress and feel good about your improvement than comparing your new art to the old. Another fun way to see how much you've improved is to redraw your old art, and how can you do that when you don't have your old drawings at hand?
So yeah :)) This has been art tips with parou, thank you so much for asking :DD

Rpg Anon: So yeah I said I'd like to make some changes to the Hajime's Shiva Persona design thoughts I said. First things first, I based my thoughts on Shiva from actual Hindu depictions, Smite, Record of Ragnarok, and SMTV/Persona. Now for some new ideas plus some changes:
First of all, I changed my mind slightly on the two floating mechanical arms. They'll still be mechanical somewhat, but I want them basically attached to his back now. Kinda like he's got a cybernetic backpack with arms that serve as his upper extra pair. Take a look at this image below (I got it from Smite itself; do i still need to credit it?)
Tumblr media
This is Smite Shiva concept art. You see how his two upper arms come from behind him and behind his other arms specifically? That's kinda what I think would be better now. Except again, mechanical appendages. Basically he's truly got the normal two arms human anatomy but he's bringing cybernetic enhancements (doesn't necessarily mean it has to be fused into his skin and body tho). I don't want his upper mech arms to be overly giant tho. I prefer the same size as his real arms.
Now I can get into the smaller but finer details. First, I don't intend on him being full mechanical. I kinda intend a Shiva Persona to still be the classic and traditional design (refer to SMT/Persona design and definitely again to the Smite design; theyre downright correct and accurate to what Shiva looks like). In other words, he'd definitely be more flesh than cybernetic. So yes, he'd still have the basically shirtless muscular warrior look with the tiger pelt/loincloth, the snake around his neck (mod, you can modify this part so it matches up with the Hajime themes and mecha themes if you want, however you want. Just makes sure it's still wrapped around his neck), and etc. That said, I wouldn't mind him wearing awesome metal/cybernetic gauntlets on all four arms.
Side note: Definitely blue skin. This Shiva Persona design for Hajime has to have it no matter what cuz it's goddamn Shiva.
Next, he has Izuru hair. Gotta cram in some Hajime stuff and you can kinda believe Shiva would have such long hair if he untied it.
Next, he has a face mask similar to Izanagi's. Also, he's got the green and red eye color Hajime's got. Straight up fanservice here.
Next, his third eye is going to be one hell of a sci-fi fantasy shit. You ever seen Raiden from Metal Gear Revengeance? You seen how he has that black face mask? Yep, I want this Shiva to have something similar where some mechanical pieces from the side come to together to form the traditional Shiva Third Eye design over his face. And then yes, the design then glows and shoots motherfucking flaming laser beams of death. Look up pictures online of Shiva killing Kama; you'll see what it looks like.
Now for some slight animation changes. For any physical move, I don't want him to still be in his idle/summoned pose of him meditating and levitating when doing it anymore. So now, he starts out the meditating and levitating pose but leaves out of it when doing the lunging stab or slash. The jojo style rapid fire punching is the same with him leaving the pose to do his thing. He only stays in the stance when doing his offensive or support magic spells. The Tandava unique skill is the only exception cuz I need him to start dancing.
(Omfg I just realize I have literally recreated Mecha Shiva. Kill me now.)
I probably forgot some other changes I wanted to say but i think I'm good for now. So yes, these are some details to Hajime's Shiva Persona in my vision. What do you think?
//Cool.
//Like, that's literally all I have to say. That's a cool idea.
//Also, this might be the most obnoxiously long ask anyone has ever sent on this blog, lol.

Grab Bag Doodles
I haven't been doodling too much lately. Mostly everything I've drawn I've finished or it's a part of a bigger project that I don't want to post. So... yeah. Kinda had to scramble for some stuff, but nonetheless I hope you'll enjoy me rambling for a bit.
1) Kun3h0 Head Logo. I made this an alternate graphic to take the place of the word logo if need be. I think it's pretty cute.
2-3) Kun3h0 Doodles. She takin' a sippy. Yeah, I kinda wrote myself into a corner saying that Kun3h0's mouth is a screen (to explain why it's white when she opens her mouth), but I'm gonna say it just slides out of the way when she needs to refill her coolant tanks or otherwise needs to access the inside of her head.
4-5) Nekoko Base Tests. So one project I was working on was preparing a new base for HONK because the Yomi project is just not working out for me. I chose an old OC, Nekoko, for the test because she's one of the only OCs I have that kinda suits the "traditional" anime character mold. But I dunno how far I'm gonna take this because I started questioning what the utility of a blank PNGtuber base even is. If you're already capable of drawing, which you need to be able to do to use the base, then there is zero reason to use the base XP. The only way I can see this being actually useful is if I add a bunch of premade parts to it and essentially turn it into a character creator, which is a lot of work. I dunno, maybe I'll still put it together, but I do honestly believe that this has been a futile project from the very beginning.
6) I'm Your Number 1 Fan, Sketch. The original sketch for that piece. It was supposed to be slightly animated and a little more sinister in nature, with all the artists getting crossed off one-by-one and the background getting a little darker every time. I think it's still a cool idea, but a lack of thumbnailing really bit me in the butt: Kliff's pose was already locked in, but by the time I started adding all the artist portraits, I realized that his hand was gonna get covered, so it became way too busy in that area, so I just replaced the idea with the Kliff emojis. Maybe I'll come back to this idea thematically, though.
7) The Troll Slaiyers. Some stupid ass bullshit that I'm probably not gonna finish because I just cannot bring myself to put serious effort into memes. All the portrait art is traced from in-game talksprites. None of the colors are color picked to give it a shittier quality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8) ???. Hey, for making it this far, here's a secret sketch! No, the image isn't broken, I pixelated it on purpose because it's a part of a "secret" project. Well, it's not my secret, and I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be a secret (I guess I could have just asked XP), but this character belongs to someone else, and I don't want to post anything about it until it becomes public. Originally, it started as a potential test for the PNGtuber base I was working on. I did several different characters to see how well the proportions translated to characters of other styles. I even did a Kun3h0 test, but she seems weird without her really long legs XP. Anyway, I did this one because their proportions are a little more different (having shorter limbs and a very different head shape) and I just started sketching more ideas for it because I think they're a very fun character. Hopefully that project will become public someday, so I can share more of the art and doodles I've done for it, but till then, I guess this is okay.

ah, filler arcs are the worst. i'll make sure to skip those eps when i get around to them. thanks for the heads up!
i haven't read the jjk manga either, but a lot of my irl friends have recommended it to me. i always avoid starting things that haven't finished airing/publishing, so i've been putting it off. gojo's one of my favorites as well! i also like nanami and itadori. i've added the first season of railgun to my ptw and looking forward to giving it a watch!
you'll have to let me know when you finish cowboy bebop. i'd love to hear what you think! i watched it for the first time earlier this year and rewatched it a few times with friends since then. it's been a very different experience every time and they all have strong opinions on it, but that's what makes it one of my favorites.
bright/vibrant edits are great! coloring has never been my strong suit when it comes to making gifs/graphics, so it's definitely a skill i've been working on. i go for more darks/blacks, but i think making your gift is the perfect time to challenge myself.
do you have any plans for the holidays or are you looking forward to anything in particular?
- your animanga secret santa
jahrg;ghjarghl sorryyyyyyy for the late reply!! I promise I'm not doing this on purpose... orz
yeah filler arcs are almost always hard to swallow... this one was especially awful since I'm so invested in the WT series and the first episode of the filler was actually not bad?? so I had my hopes lifted and I was excited to see what Toei could bring but they just literally butchered everything about the series. I won't bore you with details but just know that it haunts me to this day lmao
with JJK, the story is kind of lacking imo, what really interests me is the characters/character relationships and the world-building, and the art style and animation of the anime is just SO pretty while the art in the manga is... not really lmao so after reading a bit of it I just decided that I'd stick to the anime. who knows though, maybe I'll give the manga another go someday (maybewhenevergojoshowsbackup). Nanami is totally another fave of mine too!! as well as Itadori, the series really does have great characters, I just wish the overall story was a bit more compelling. I hope you like Railgun!! that's another one you'll have to tell me about when you try it out~ and I'll be sure to let you know when I get around to finishing Cowboy Bebop!!
don't push yourself too hard!! I know coloring can be such a pain sometimes... >.< even though I really enjoy it, I also really struggle with it a lot of the time and then don't end up posting anything lmao it's a vicious cycle and one of the big reasons I don't post nearly as much as I would like to. I want you to be happy with whatever you end up creating, so don't force yourself too far out of your comfort zone!! ❤️
as for plans for the holidays, I don't really have any other than just to relax and spend time with family. we used to have really big family gatherings back when we lived where I grew up because my dad's entire side of the family all lived really close together, but ever since we moved states it's just kinda been us and sometimes a couple family friends, so it's a lot more mellow these days which is really nice. what about you? do you have any holiday traditions or big gatherings?

Personality
╚══ஓ๑†๑ஓ══╝
Yuuta's hard to read. At least, once you truly get to know him.
At first glance, you'd think you have his personality down to a T. And, in some cases, you're right.
He's dubbed ‘Crowley's errand boy’. And — at least at first glance — Yuuta wears it like it's some sort of badge of honor. When really, it's just doing the duties Crowley doesn't want to deal with himself.
But, at the very least, Crowley always pays the young prefect handsomely with each accomplishment he achieves. Even the smallest of feats allows Yuuta to be paid thousands.
Unfortunately, it enables his greed. Yuuta believes that money is what truly makes the world go round, and wants to have as much money as he can in both his world — and in Twisted Wonderland.
Not many people are aware that it's also a survival instinct. To have as much money as possible so that you'll never have to worry about anything related to it ever again.
He's rather judgmental. And at times, his words are capable of shattering pride. Because Yuuta has to maintain his.
Of course, one must never forget his materialism, no? Opulence was one of the most important parts of Yuuta's lifestyle, and he intends to make it the same while staying in Twisted Wonderland.
But…. That isn't to say that the porcelain that keeps him intact doesn't have any cracks left to show.
He needs to maintain pride. He has to. If he doesn't, he'll be looked down upon. Be seen as weak, and helpless.
And Yuuta doesn't want to be like that. Never again.

✧̣̩⋆̩◊⋆゜Yuuta's Inventory
↳ A collection of items the Ramshackle prefect keeps at his disposal!
◊ Spirit Shutter(スピリットシャッター)
↳ A camera the prefect was given as a gift from the headmaster! Apparently, it will allow him to see spirits from the realm after death. Not that Yuuta uses it, of course. If anything, it's only kept for display in his room.
◊ The Midas Roscoes(ミダス・ロスコス)
↳ Odd, don't you think? He doesn't remember having any sort of firearm at his disposal before being transported. Regardless, his roscoe matches the opulence of the style he presents — and gold, too. Nothing less for the prefect of Ramshackle.
[ There seems to be more, but the prefect won't allow us entry… ]

Thoughts on them
╚══ஓ๑†๑ஓ══╝
“He reminds me of his mother. A lover of opulence, with a penchant for wealth! As the esteemed headmage of Night Raven, I consider it an honor to have Yumeko's son as the prefect of her dormitory!”
— Dire Crowley, headmaster of Night Raven College
“..... So he's what's left of her, yes? I suppose it was inevitable. Yumeko's health was beginning to decline around the time she disappeared… I simply hope her son didn't inherit her illness.”

✿ Yuuta claims to have no memory of his life before coming to Twisted Wonderland. In actuality, he remembers everything. He just doesn't want to remember it.
❀ Crowley pays Yuuta up to 700,000 whenever he takes care of overblots. Yuuta often says that it's because he refuses to handle such dangerous matters for free.
✿ He took up gun-slinging shortly after discovering that he had the roscoes at his disposal. He brings them everywhere he goes!
❀ Crowley was the one to refer to him as ‘Sumeragi Yuuta’, rather than by the name he had in his original world, ‘Kenshō Yuuta’. Since Yuuta wishes to forget his life before Twisted Wonderland altogether, he simply goes with it instead of trying to correct Crowley.
✿ He actually doesn't want to go home. Crowley's under the belief that he wants to, but he really doesn't. If anything, he sees Twisted Wonderland as his way to start over and make something of himself.
❀ No one's allowed to interrupt Yuuta during his ‘gardening hours’. He's usually caring for the plants in the Botanical Gardens during that time, and even Leona refuses to interrupt the rare occasion of Yuuta not being a greedy little sweet-talker.

Disney Movie Marathon #43 Treasure Planet (2002)
Tumblr media
TREASURE PLANET TIME BABYYYYYY!!!!!!! Remember when I said back with Atlantis I wanted Disney to do more sci-fi? This is it! I love this movie. I've seen this movie plenty of times and of course I watched it for my birthday this year. Pretty sure I was getting close to start wearing out the VHS tape as a kid. I recorded scenes on my dinky iPod so I could watch them later. I love Treasure Planet. We got pirates, we got space, we got sci-fi technology, we got hoverboards, we got an intro flying sequence that still gives me pure unfiltered dopamine, we got great world and character design, we got a great coming of age story, WE GOT IT ALL!!! No one talk to me I'm shifting into Treasure Planet mode
Story: Honestly this is Disney's most underrated project. If you're into sci-fi, cool tech, space, heart warming stories then you'll probably like this movie. This a great movie with a fun adventure while also following Jim and him growing into a person he's happy and comfortable with being. The bond he and Silver end up developing tuggin on my heart strings as always. It's so sweet to see the moment that they start caring for each other but they both want to find treasure for conflicting reasons and GAH so good. I don't want to say too much because I want as many people to experience this movie blind and make their own opinions, but I also want to sell y'all on watching it in the first place.
Characters: Morph is best boy. Those are just facts. Okay but for real Morph is one of my favorite sidekick characters and the majority of the chuckles or laughs that get me in this movie are because of that shapeshifting goo ball. I like Jim a lot. Yeah he's a punk teenager but he's feeling a lot and doesn't know how to vent those feelings well, but he's so smart! Love how crafty he is with solar flying tech and how he grows into his own by the end of the movie. Wish we got a little bit more of Captain Amelia because she's so cool and a cat which may lead into a personal bias. Overall I think the cast is good. I know people don't like BEN but I don't hate him. Maybe he's too cooky? Sure it's a bit odd to introduce a wacky character like him so late in the story but his purpose to the actual Treasure Planet makes sense to me. To be honest I find that one alien that talks in fart sounds to be way more annoying but he's not in the film long and I'm 90% sure he's there to appeal to little kid humor
Art/Animation: Animation already really good. I want to highlight Jim's facial features because he's one of the least expressive characters who doesn't talk more than he has to. But the ways his eyes moves or quirks of his lips gets you into the kid's head. Seeing so much of this animation up close in HD just oooou so nice very nice. The art for this movie is impressive. Not in the traditional sense but it's wild to see all the 3D environments/sets and props that get traveled through and interacted with 2D characters. And yeah the 3D is kinda dated but the whole movie has that style that not a specific thing jumps out and makes me think "oof that's rough" like previous movies have. The backgrounds can be a hit or miss for me. There are some great background shots in this but many of them look bland. Kinda like Dinosaur where there's so much monotonous or muddy colors. Which is a shame because there's some great designs going on in the back. Shots that deal with space, stars, and galaxies though oooou I like me some of that. Whoever decided to base the ships and guns off the 19th century deserves high fives all around because that mixed with future tech is delicious
Songs: I still listen to I'm Still Here on the regular (English and Spanish version). Sure the implementation of it with the montage of Jim and Silver bonding is pretty corny but I like it! The score is alright. Not the greatest but when those tense or triumphant moments swell you feel it

A Real Date
[Ava Starr x Female!Reader]
Summary: You and Ava trying a dinner date that goes very wrong (just kidding it's actually fine).
Previous Masterlist Next
Word count: 1.8k words
Warning(s): 13+ | no-snap au, post-Ant Man and the Wasp, swearing, internalized homophobia(?), I think I’m working through something here this might be a little personal (sorry in advance), past relationship angst, presumed past of dating multiple genders but there is no definitive sexuality established for reader in the present, this was going to be something else but the story took over and I had to roll with it.
Author's note: no-snap au, post-Ant Man and the Wasp. I’m sorry I do not edit anymore, it only serves to stand in my way. This is part 3 of Ava Starr series beginning with Strawberry Soda. Art by Artmilla on DeviantArt (correct me if I’m wrong please)
Tumblr media
It's important to note that not everything you see in media is the hegemonic truth. Take sapphic dating rituals for example: in media it’s a constant joke about how fast people move in together and own pets and plants like they were soulmates and always meant to be together. Which is nice to see– it’s not meant to be a cruel joke– but it does paint a picture of perfection. It doesn’t explicitly state whether your future wife is your first or fiftieth girlfriend but it sure as shit might lead you to believe every girl might be your last.
Real people don’t work that way. Real people have different interests, different lives, different traumas, different styles and needs. Every relationship is new and it has to be done deliberately and with care for what you and your partner want. So when you think about your relationship with Ava you can’t help but feel a little guilty.
Ava seems to like to take things slow. Your relationship prioritizes quality time over physical touch which you're fine with, but you can’t help it if you compare the details to other people you’ve dated. You’ve known each other for three months and in every other relationship by this time, you and your previous partners had hit a ton of milestones that you and Ava had just… not. So when you bring up the prospect of a ‘real date’ to Ava one night while cooking pasta in your kitchen, Ava chuckles.
“And what exactly constitutes as a ‘real date?’”
The television is playing some daytime television game show and the volume’s on low. You pass her the salt and take a swig from your beer with a shrug. Already you feel silly for bringing it up.
“Dinner. A movie. Sometimes both, I guess,” you say, flustered.
Ava raises an eyebrow at the softening bowtie noodles in the pot. “We’re having dinner right now…? Name one time we haven’t come back to your place to watch a movie.”
“The time the power went out and we played jenga by candlelight. But I– I mean like a date outside of the house.”
“We go to out to parks, the antique mall, lunch, the arcade–”
“Well, yeah I guess you’re right I just don’t know I still feel like–”
“Again, how is any of it different from a ‘real date?’”
“I don’t know! Just… just forget it.” you’re trying not to be bitter about it but you don’t even know what you mean so how could you explain it?
Ava calls your name softly and you already feel hot shame lick up your neck when you see her face. “I didn’t mean it like that, I– I just don’t think I understand what you mean and I want to! Honestly…”
You sigh and lean closer to her, careful not to touch but you want her to know you’re not mad. “No, I’m sorry. I just… I’ve been stuck on it for a week but I can’t seem to figure out why. Everything you’re saying I agree with but there’s still this nagging voice in my head telling me it’s not fair or I’m doing it wrong but I don’t know what it even is and I–”
You collapse onto the kitchen floor breathless. What the fuck were you even saying? Why was this bothering you so much? What ‘s different about this relationship than any other relationship you’ve already had? Your eyes are darting back and forth and your head is a million miles away. You keep talking as if saying it out loud will make your impulsive and intrusive thoughts and motivations clearer to you.
“It’s out of order. No, it’s not but it’s… with Jordan and Becky and Hal, I went on three dates before it felt normal. We did the traditional getting to know you stuff. Damien and Palavi were straight physical– not traditional at all but that still felt good enough somehow. And– and it’s not that I don’t believe what we have isn’t real, I just–
“Fuck, I don’t know! It feels a little like my relationship with Kat.” You can’t believe it but then the words were out there. You had never told anybody about Kat– Ava was still learning about the rest of them– but the instant those words left your mouth you regretted them. Ava was not Kat.
For instance, Ava slipped down to sit beside you on the floor– Kat would never lower herself to meet your eye. Ava looked at you and she saw you– Kat chose to ignore your feelings whenever it became more convenient to do so. Kat made you feel special and yet not special enough– OK maybe they shared a little bit of that. A tiny, micro piece of that.
“What was Kat like?” She said the words softly and without an ounce of jealousy.
You gather your mind with a deep breath. “Dating Kat was like being strapped to a rocket. It was like being a part of something bigger and stronger than me. Being with her made me feel inconsequential and sometimes I liked that, but then… then I realized I was just a dirty little secret. Kat liked me because I was convenient to her, not because she actually cared about me.
“When we talked or hung out, it had to be on her terms. No public, no friends or family, no social media. No one was allowed to know. She passed it off as just wanting me for herself but after she dumped me for something better I realized she never saw me as her equal. And it just… I was already in a dark place and that place just kind of got a whole lot darker after that. I felt especially not special.”
You lean back and rest your head on the cabinet under the sink. “I know that’s not you. Maybe I’m just tired of feeling like I have to hide a part of myself. I did a lot of stupid things in the public eye with Palavi, maybe part of that was because I was proud of who I am and I wanted everyone to know it?”
“I think I care too much about what other people think of me,” you said closing your eyes.
You didn’t expect to feel Ava lean her head against your shoulder but you don’t pull away. God, you could never pull away even as you worry she may be causing herself harm just to comfort you and your rambling. Her hair tickles a bit and smells like strawberries and lavender.
Ava lifted her head after a moment. “Let’s go on a real date then.”
~
Why the fuck were you so nervous? This was your idea! You had trouble picking a restaurant and picking a day and picking your clothes out and picking where to sit. So many choices with so much meaning or none at all. You just need this to be perfect because you hoped maybe this is what you need to stop that nagging in your head.
You made the call to meet each other there. You made the suggestion that it had to be somewhere nice– as in get dressed up nice. And darling, sweet, patient Ava let you have the control you so desperately needed. She offered suggestions here and there, and it helped you narrow everything down to a science. You feel a little self conscious sitting by yourself in your get up but you knew she'd be there on time.
It's just a matter of whether or not you could sit still for five more minutes.
You hold the cloth napkin in your palms to try and soak up the sweat. Forcing yourself to sit unnaturally still and you haven't touched your wine because you just know you'll get it everywhere somehow. Your eyes trace over the table to stop yourself from meeting the eyes of other patrons. Do nothing, wait it out.
Ava is stunning and you don't know she's there until the wait staff places the dinner menus in front of you. So much for pulling out her chair like you wanted to– but she's here and you break out into a big smile.
"You look amazing," you tell her.
Ava smiles and takes a sip of the rosé you ordered. The dim lighting in the room seems to soften the contours of her face but never the sharpness of her bright eyes. Something blossoms inside you and you feel it– that thing that's been bothering you like a knot in your stomach turns into a seed and its flowering now. This is your girlfriend. Not your friend who is a girl– your significant other. She's important to you and she has decided that she feels the same way about you.
You feel your body unwind, reaching across the table like you might touch her hand then stop an inch from her empty plate. She watches you curiously but without fear. After a beat, it's Ava who finishes the contact. She slips her hand into yours and you are delighted to discover she's not a corporeal being you've convinced yourself is real. Her skin is a little dry around the palm and she has calluses you never knew were there and she's real and this is happening.
You resist the urge to squeeze her fingers. Let her lead. Trust her to move away if she experiences any pain. She looks away from you with a flustered face you've never seen her wear and takes another draft of her wine.
"This is nice," she says softly.
You eat off each others' plates and you laugh together, and if anyone's watching you wouldn't know because for once you couldn't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks. You're with your person, for now or forever doesn't matter because she's letting you hold her hand and talk about a play you want to take her to on Saturday. Your heart flutters in your chest the whole way home and it’s not until you’re standing at your front door does her hand finally slip from yours. The feeling lingers though and your face hurts from smiling.
“This everything you wanted,” she asked.
“Yes,” you reply, “yes it was. Thank you for indulging me, it’s exactly what I needed.”
“I enjoyed it too.” She steps closer, seemingly reluctant to leave just yet. “We’re still going to see Rocky Horror Picture Show, right?”
“Absolutely,” you beam, “trust me, you’re gonna love it, it’s wild.” You blow her a kiss to send her on her way and spend the next hour giggling to yourself until you finally pass out from exhaustion.

New oc - final design, no final colors yet but I'm close I think,,
I was inspired by a snowflake I made a few days ago that I had cut up and put in my sketchbook and started designing this little one.
*oc explanation*
So like their mouth is sort of like a skull mouth but its just teeth with no bottom jaw so they do not talk they just hum which turns into like a magical tune like hymns that end up putting others to sleep or changes their mood depending on what the oc wants the other to feel.
They have no name YET. They use they/them pronouns. They are more of a mythical oc and doesn't understand the concept of male and female and just living life.
They are sort of a mix of animals mainly deer with others mixed (maybe cat?? Idk yet) but if you want to understand what I mean with them being mythical / mysterious, take example of the forest spirit in Princess Mononoke. It's that kind of vibe I'm going for with this oc. They are more inspired by the forest spirit now that I realize xD
So just to wrap up everything because I'm like shit posting with more ideas:
New oc:
- they have no bottom jaw, they only have teeth but they hum an ancient tune that changes someone's mood or puts them to sleep
- they use them/them pronouns only. They do not understand the concept of male and female so they just live in the moment.
-they are part deer and is the height of a deer but, they are a little bigger than usual.
-they are an elemental magical creature that specializes in magick hence the symbol of wicca on their side.
-they have tree branches and flowers growing out of the head plus a mist that looks like fire but it's not.
I would also love some name suggestions for them :)
I really like unique names for example some of my ocs names are: Ukara, Anchor, Haelyn, Wren, Rehan, Makani. Just names like those that are unique, you don't hear them often. Check my oc account @aelkorrart-ocs for the names of the rest of my ocs (can't remember login info so I can't share this there :') )
So yeah,, this is a long introduction for a new oc oof xD enjoy the drawings I made for them !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also this is my first time I believe posting a full body drawing that is traditional art. I draw in pen a lot so yeah you'll see a lot of my sketching and such. I'm not the greatest at anatomy but I do like how I made the paws and legs so I will probably incorporate those into my style :3

a post for anyone who doesn't like 1st or 2nd person POV
writing in 1st or 2nd person is an undervalued skill, which is a real shame because there are some situations that really do work much better in 1st or 2nd person.
the thing people don't realise is that 1st and 2nd person both include 3rd person narration when writing about characters other than the pov character, so writing 1st or 2nd requires you to also be competent with 3rd person.
3rd person is like the #2 pencil of narration. your teachers yell at you if you try to use anything else, it works okay for most things that require you to make marks on a page, and it's literally everywhere.
1st and 2nd person are like pens or pencils made specifically for certain types of writing or art. you can't use a fountain pen on a standardised test; you can't post 2nd person fics on FFN. if you hand someone a watercolor pencil when they ask to borrow a pencil, they'll make a face and they may not even use it. if you fill someone's request in 1st person, they probably weren't expecting that, and there's a substantial chance they'll be displeased or even annoyed with you for it.
but that doesnt mean fountain pens and watercolor pencils are bad or worthless! it doesn't mean they shouldn't be used. maybe you think this seems obvious, but i can't even tell you how many times i've gotten comments saying something like this:
this is cool but i don't get the 2nd person, i think you should've used something else
this... is ridiculous. this is like looking at some artwork someone made with oil pastel and commenting "i think you should've used a #2 pencil." writing is art, and the style an author chooses to use is just as inherent to the finished piece as the medium of a physical art piece.
no one would suggest that artists should only use #2 pencils, but there's this pervasive idea both in established literature circles and even online writing communities (which tend to be more liberal about Everything Except This) that 1st and 2nd person are annoying and always poorly written and that writers should only use 3rd person.
which makes me think, like, okay, so you'll act smug about defying traditional ideas of what literature should be, but when it comes to people shitting on 1st and 2nd person you join in? why?
1st and 2nd person are both as varied and usable as 3rd person. a lot of english curriculum teaches you that there's different kinds of 3rd person, like, 3rd person limited, 3rd person omniscient. did you know it's the exact same for 2nd? yeah, there's different types of 2nd person, except none of them have names because academia hasn't bothered with it yet, and i can't think of any names that actually make sense.
anyway lets take a look at reasons an author might have for choosing a certain POV!
strengths of first person:
developing an unreliable narrator is very natural
if you do it right, the pov character will have a very distinct voice
it's good for telling stories as if the reader is hearing them firsthand from the person who experience them
it's also great for stories formatted as a series of diary entries or letters between people
no need to gender your pov character
strengths of 2nd person:
feels very direct
you can do all kinds of neat stuff with it! such as: third person limited, except you still assign the 2nd person pronoun to a different character. i could see this being extremely convenient for reader insert fics, but it's also a version of 2nd person that i've used to convey dissociation
example of 3rd person limited with added 2nd person: Jean tucks her hair behind her ear and studies you. From your shoes to your glasses, everything seems specifically chosen to rebel against authority. Jean thinks this is sort of cool. She doesn't really know what you're doing on the playground, or why you aren't being forced to wear the same uniform as all the other little girls, but she thinks that if she got to wear whatever she wanted to school, she would probably put beads on her shoelaces too. She sort of wants to be your friend, until she sees you float through the swingset, and then she changes her mind. She doesn't want to be your friend; she needs to be your friend.
so what i've done here is describe 2 little girls, one of whom is a ghost. if i tried to do this in third person, i would have to spend extra words clarifying who i meant every time i said the word "she." but because i wrote it in 2nd person, it flows much more nicely. i could do a similar thing with 1st person as well.
in the example above, the ghost is referred to in 2nd person to emphasise her ghostliness. she isnt like the other girls, because she is dead. referring to the ghost in 2nd person unsettles the reader, which makes the misdirection leading up to Jean's decision to befriend the ghost more effective.
again, no need to gender your pov character
strengths of 3rd person:
you have more experience reading it, and so does your audience, making it more accessible and less likely to be dismissed on the basis of style alone
3rd person omniscient does not count as a strength, even if it is truly omniscient. what i mean by "truly omniscient" is, many books that people call 3rd person omniscient are just written in alternating 3rd person limited; they are split into sections or scenes, and each scene is in 3rd person limited with respect to its pov character. you can do that with 1st and 2nd person too.
true omniscient 3rd person requires the narration to bring elements outside the limit of one character's point of view into scenes written from the point of view of that character. again, you can do this with 1st and 2nd person as well.
i understand that you read fic for yourself and that everyone has stuff they just dont really like, but... the disdain for 1st and 2nd person is so common that i suspect it isnt a preference all of you would still have if 1st and 2nd person weren't so rare. it's definitely something you have to get used to, but it would mean a lot to me (and other writers who use these POVs) if more people decided to try and get more used to reading 1st and 2nd person. thank you for reading.

JULIET
Request: Hello, I was wondering if you could write a Tony Stark story for me. I’d like a high school AU where tony is the usual popular tech nerd and I’m a theatre geek who doesn’t really have any friends but homecoming or a dance is coming up soon. Please and thank you. If you need anymore info or have any questions just go ahead and ask me.
Pairing: young!Tony Stark x young!Reader (high school Au)
Genre: mostly fluff
Tag: @carolyn-stark-91
Warnings: language
A/N: First things first, I don't know shit about technology, and I like theatre, but not that much, so that part is going to be shit, just saying. And second, I think this is the longest imagine-fic I wrote. Like, I got completely carried away lol. Anyways I hope you enjoy it, feedback is always appreciated. Rogue-barnes-16 masterlist here (because it won't let me add another paragraph lol)

"we can improve the functionality" I said, moving Bruce's chair aside and observing the hologram we were working on.
"we- we can't." Bruce stated, going through the calculations again an again. "I mean, it's the best we can do, there's no miscalculations here."
"But we could improve it without the calculations." I turned off the hologram and grabbed one of its pieces. "If we use vibranium instead of this shit, we would be able to make it twice smaller and more functional."
Probably we were the only ones still at the high school building, apart from Principal Carter, in her office, and Mrs Martinelli, in the theatre. Bruce glanced at the clock and sighed. "Tony, it's really late, I have to go" I nodded absently, still fiddling with some of the device pieces. "see you tomorrow"
"see you tomorrow" I replied. An hour passed before my phone buzzed. I unlocked it to read the text I had just received.
Aunt Peggy: Go to the theatre, Angie has something for you. Then get ready and wait for me in the hall.
I replied with an 'OK' before turning off the AC/DC Playlist I was listening too. I picked up my things and, grabbing my backpack, I walked to the theatre. "Angie?"
"dressing rooms, Tony!" she informed me. I crossed the theatre and just before I walked into the dressing rooms, I realized Angie wasn't alone. "Yeah, that's a pretty good idea."
"And maybe we could introduce a futuristic style in the outfits too" I opened the door and I saw her. She was wearing her favorite cardigan, which made her look even more beautiful than usual. "maybe like that, we would break with the traditional representation of Romeo and Juliet. I really love Shakespeare's classics, but the play's been performed two years in row."
Y/n was... Well, she was just perfect. I had been crushing on her for a year already, but I didn't want to make a move, due to Pepper. It's not like I still had feelings for her, but it felt weird to start dating someone so early.
"You're right- Oh Tony, just in time." Angie said, walking towards me with a smile. "Y/n and I were talking about this year's performance of Romeo and Juliet, and Y/n suggested you could design some high tech stage props, since we're slightly innovating the play."
"Oh" I glanced at Y/n and then at Angie. "sure, it'll be funny." it would be really funny, in fact. I was stuck with the hologram, so this would be some kind of distraction."
"Nice, Y/n'll supervise your work, since it was her idea" I smiled at her and she smiled back at me. "You should talk about when you guys want to work on this, so I'll tell Peggy to wait." I nodded and I saw Y/n walking to the stage. "Tony, do me a favor. Y/n loves theatre, and she would make a great Juliet. Try to convince her to do it."
"I'll try my best" I assured her, right before following Y/n way to the stage. She was looking around, humming distractedly. I cleared my throat and she stopped humming, flashing me a smile. "so, when do you want us to do this?"
She shrugged looking at the auditorium. "I'm free 24/7 so you tell." I knew why she was free. Natasha and Wanda told me they had never seen Y/n with anyone. She would talk with Vision, Barnes, Carol or Steve from time too time, but it was pretty clear she didn't have friends.
And even though I was the most popular and talkative person in high school, I wasn't able to talk with her. "I can come after the last period every day." I said looking around.
It was odd, I loved to be in the spotlight, but for some reason, standing in that stage made me nervous. However, Y/n seemed really comfortable, like she belonged there. And maybe she did. "sure, we can start tomorrow if you want."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"C'mon Y/n, just accept it!" I exclaimed, fixing one of my designs for the stage props. "You're the best Juliet you'll find."
She sighed, going through the list of girls who auditioned for said role. "Listen I have five girls here Okay?" she said, scribbling something on the list. "Wanda was okay, an Sharon too. We can pick Sharon."
I rolled my eyes. We've been working together for the past two months. We got along pretty good since the beginning, but I couldn't talk any sense into Y/n for her to accept the role of Juliet.
It was the fifth time we had this conversation, and it always ended up with me getting mad and her leaving the list on the stage, not knowing what girl should she choose.
It was always the same, and I had to change it. I got up and walked towards Y/n "Okay that's it." I said, grabbing the list and throwing it to the floor.
She widened her eyes and before she could protest, I held both of her hands and I helped her to climb to the stage. "what are you doing."
"proving my fucking point, dear." she scoffed while I was climbing off the stage, coming back after having picked up a script used for the auditions. I cleared my throat before reading "Oh, that I were a glove upon that hand- No, too much to read. Uh... Okay, here"
Before I could start again, she spoke "wait, what do you mean with 'here'?" she asked nervous "I don't even know what part are you reading"
"Y/n you know what part I'm reading because you know the play." I stated before re-reading the line I was planning on saying. "Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?"
I looked up at Y/n, who looked me nervous before takes deep breath. "'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague." she started naturally, like she was born for this. "What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part belonging to a man." I lowered the script, mesmerized by how she portrayed Juliet
"O, be some other name!" she exclaimed, looking at me like I truly was Romeo. "What's in a name?" my lips parted slightly, but she was too immersed on the character to realize it.
"that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet;" I then realized, she was no longer standing still, she was moving, walking, gesturing, like she was having a conversation.
"So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, retain that dear perfection which he owes without that title." as she said those words, she started walking towards me, with love and desperation in her eyes "Romeo, doff thy name, and for that name which is no part of thee take all myself."
I gulped, realizing how close we were. She seemed to come back to reality after a couple of blinks, and before I could say anything, we heard claps coming from the auditorium.
When we turned around, we saw Nat, Clint, Rhodey, and Pietro in the entrance of the theatre, walking towards the stage "you go girl!" Nat exclaimed, jogging towards us.
"Oh my God" I heard Y/n muttering, and she covered her face for a moment. When she looked up, I smiled warmly at her, and she gave me an awkward smile in return.
"my sister has no chance against this born-to-be-Juliet" Pietro chuckled, following Nat towards the stage. "is Romeo's role still available?" he asked with a smirk, climbing up to the stage.
"No, I think Angie decided she would pick Steve Rogers to do it" she informed us, grabbing the list again, along with the script in my hands. "And I'm picking Sharon."
"Oh, c'mon, is she serious?" Clint asked rhetorically. "Tony, talk some sense into your girl, man."
I pinched the bridge of my nose, praying for Y/n to ignore Clint's words, and I walked to the dressing rooms to look for her. "Hey there, Juliet."
"cut it, Tony" she said, leaving the papers over the desk. "I'm not doing it." I held her hand, making her turn around and sit down.
"Listen, Y/n" I started, kneeling in front of her, looking into her eyes. "this is your thing. You spend so many time here than it's natural for you to do this. And God, you didn't see your face while you were portraying Juliet a few seconds ago, you looked mesmerizing, captivating, and you didn't even try."
She blushed slightly, crossing her arms over her chest. "listen Y/n, if you tell me you didn't enjoy it, I'll let it go." I waited for her answer, but she couldn't deny it. "If you really enjoyed it, you have to do it okay?"
"Okay" she mumbled after a moment. "I'll do it."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"look at our Romeo!" Wanda exclaimed grinning, as Barnes, Nat, me and her, got in the dressing rooms. Steve was already dressed up like Romeo.
"how sexy, I'm sure Sharon'll love those clothes" Barnes teased Steve and they burst out in laughs. I looked around and I spotted Y/n, who was talking with Angie.
She was already wearing her costume as Juliet. The costumes were redesigned for us to have a futuristic look, just like Y/n had asked for. "Hey, there Juliet." I called her, and she turned around smiling at me.
She dismissed Angie and walked towards me, slightly holding up her dress to avoid tripping. "Hey Tony." she looked over my shoulder and greeted my friends.
"You look breath-taking." I blurted out, and she chuckled, thanking me. "are you nervous?" I asked, even though I knew she wasn't.
She smiled, denying with her head. "Steve's really nervous, though. Loki is too, but he'll make a great Paris." Angie called her and she turned around. "I gotta go. Enjoy the play, will you?"
I grinned and nodded. "of course I will. Now go get them, Juliet." she chuckled and waved me goodbye. I saw Steve going right behind her and I walked towards my friends again.
Barnes grinned at the same time as Nat and Wanda looked mischievously at each other. "When are you planning on asking her out, Mr 'I can do anything'?" Barnes teased.
"I'm planning on asking her to come with me to the Winter Ball." I confessed, scratching my neck. "I'm just struggling with finding a way to do it, I want it to be special."
Barnes let out a chuckle. "for someone so smart, you're being really stupid, y'know?" he said as we walked to our seats. "just use the theatre, man."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week had passed since the play, and Steve, Wanda and Nat were helping me to get everything ready in the theatre. "If this goes wrong-"
"If this goes wrong" Natasha cut me off "I'm dyeing my hair blond" she spatted, carrying another basquet full of y/f/c rose petals to the entrance of the theatre.
"wait" Wanda looked up at her from her crouching position. "you love your hair color" she stated confused, lighting up the candles we had previously placed on the aisle floor.
"yeah, and- careful, Tony, you'll burn the paper." he handed me another paper and I burnt the corners more carefully this time. "and don't you remember how horrified were you when you dyed your hair blond?"
"yeah I remember, idiots" Natasha scoffed, throwing the petals, making a path in the aisle. "that's the amount of confidence I have on this." she grabbed all of the basquets and climbed up to the stage, walking to the dressing rooms. "there's no chance of this going wrong"
READER'S P. O. V.
I grabbed my book from the locker and I walked to the theatre. I thought about passing by the technology lab and say hi to Tony, but I highly doubted he wanted me to.
So I went straight to the theatre. I tried to turn on the lights when I was in the hall, but they wouldn't turn on. I sighed, switching on my mobile flashlight. This had happened other times, I just had to get to the dressing rooms and check the fuses.
However, I stopped in my tracks as soon as I got in the theatre. "Okay, someone wants to start a fire here or what?" I said to myself. I looked down to pick up the candles and start to put them off, but when I crouched, I realized there were petals on the floor too. A few inches away from me, I saw a piece of paper burnt in the corners.
What's in a name? I read frowning.
I got up and I saw another paper over a seat. that which we call a rose
I kept walking and I found another one, by any other name
A couple of feets away, I saw another, would smell as sweet
I smiled. It probably was one of my favorite dialogues of 'Romeo and Juliet'. I kept walking and I found another paper, but when I picked it up, I frowned.
So Y/n would, that wasn't a part of the script.
were she not Y/n call'd, I read in the next one.
retain that dear perfection which she owes without that title.
I blushed deeply and I looked up to see the last paper on the stage. I climbed up, carefully not to hit a candle, and I picked the paper, kneeling down.
And, even though I don't deserve the perfection you owe, I'll be selfish, and I'll ask you to honour me with your presence, coming with me to the Winter Ball.
-Tony.
I widened my eyes, unable to move. Was this even real, or was it some kind of twisted and sick joke?
I noticed someone walking out of the dressing rooms and sitting down besides me "so? What do you say?" I heard Tony's voice, but I was too shocked to talk. He let out a nervous chuckle "Gosh, you're red" I rapidly covered my face with my hands "c'mon Y/n, say something, the silence is killing me."
A smile formed under my hands. "You're so fucking cheesy" he held one of my wrists out of my face and grinned.
"But it worked, right?" I rolled my eyes and nodded. "so are you coming with me?"
I lowered my other hand, unable to remove the smile from my face. "mhmm" he whispered an enthusiastic 'yes' and I laughed, getting up.
As he got up too, I heard a voice coming from the dressing rooms "guys it worked!" I turned around and I saw a very excited Wanda, coming out cheering.
Please, none else. I pleaded, feeling my cheeks getting red again. But obviously, Wanda wasn't alone, and I saw how Steve, Sharon, Natasha, Clint, Bruce, Rhodey, Pietro and James came out clapping and cheering.
"I hate you" I hissed, covering my face again. I felt Tony's arms wrapping around me and I couldn't help but smile.
"Get the fuck out of here, morons." Tony yelled at his friends, and they laughed. However, I heard steps climbing off the stage and walking away. "the coast is clear."
I lowered my hands and Tony let his travel to my hips. "are you planning on moving your hands away?" I asked looking at him.
"it depends." he said tilting his head. "are you planning on kissing me?" I shook my head no and laughed at his reaction. "c'mon Y/n, look around, you know how much effort I put on this? It was like" he sighed desperately "two hours and a half. This took two hours and a half of my life!" he exclaimed dramatically. "I think I deserve a kiss, I put so much-"
I cut him, pecking his lips. "there. Now shut up, you're such a drama queen." he smirked and leaned on to kiss me again, and this time it was a proper kiss.
"by the way, I'm proud of my drama queen side, okay?" I laughed, nodding. "great, now help me clean this before Angie sees it."
I widened my eyes, stepping back. "Wait, I thought Angie knew."
"well, she doesn't" I opened my mouth in shock, and I climbed off the stage. "what are you doing?"
"cleaning this before Angie come to kill us" she said putting out the candles rapidly and picking them up. "I don't want to die before the Winter Ball" she stated, grinning at me.
I smiled and started to help her.
Tarot Tips for predictive reading
Maybe start a Tarot Journal. If you pull a card or do a reading, take notes of the spread and card positions. After whatever situation plays out you can look back and see which connections you made at the time of the reading as well as observe connections in hindsight that you missed. I know this tip is always circulated and no one wants to do it but it does make a huge difference - particularly if you wish to do predictive reading.
Pull a few cards every morning. My morning routine is generally a 3 card spread of the primary thing that will happen that day, the attitude or energy I should adopt, and a wildcard for advice, insight, or usually a hint about something on my mind that day.
Trust that the cards know more than you do. It sounds hokey. But if you keep a journal for just one month and go back and check things out in hindsight you will be amazed at the things the cards displayed before it ever happened.
You may wish to commit at least one spread to memory. A lot of readers really dig the celtic cross and use some version of it for everything. I have a very specific method I use for phone readings and other general readings where a querent can continue asking questions once I start reading, and a literal scrapbook of spreads from the internet for when I just want to entertain myself, as well as a mini celtic cross style spread I use for very specific instances.
Practice nonpositional layouts. 3x3, 4x2, however many cards you like. This really switches on the intuitive faculties when every card doesn't have to have a rigid predefined meaning based on its location and allows you to read tarot more spatially like Lenormand or certain traditions of Cartomancy.
Practice reading intuitively. Read the layout left to right, horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. If the cards and their positions seem to reinforce the meanings you know, great! If they suggest something else, let them speak.
Pull a card at the _end_ of the day. What can you relate that happened, internally or externally, to the card?
Better yet, run a 3x3 nonpositional layout at the end of each day. Do they seem to tell the story of the day? Or are they echoing your thoughts and feelings about it? Or do they seem to be telling you how you should handle the events the day brought you?
Treat all rules as dubious suggestions. If someone tells you you can't read a certain way or get a certain meaning off a certain set of cards - understand they speak only from their own experience. If your experience up to now has been different, then their rules obviously don't apply to you.
Relax. The intuitive mind and the reasoning mind are different animals. Take a deep breath and consciously slip into the percieving state and out of the judging state before you begin every reading. With practice this becomes second nature and laying out the cards will instantly switch you into the more receptive state.
Take note of the colors and images that stand out during a reading. Your eye is drawn to them for a reason.
Ask crazy specific, non open-ended questions. Pull 3 cards. What's it look like? Yeah, I know. You're not "supposed to." But its fun and very good practice if you don't care about the outcome.
Resist the temptation to continue pulling cards for nonpositional readings. Decide before hand how many cards you'll pull before you even shuffle. Trust that the answer is in that number of cards. Or go crazy and keep reading till you're bored. 3 card reading is now 78 plus runes plus dice plus oracle deck plus bone casting. Divination is fun. You may end up more confused than when you started but look at all that data you derived from random objects.
Look into pathworking. This is where you basically meditate and zone out into the imagery of a card and let it pull you in. This allows you to experience the card on a much more direct level.
Don't feel pressured to do as others do. It's an intuitive art. It's hiiiighly individual.
Don't be discouraged by others. I think a lot of readers get waaaay too defensive about it, particularly when they decide tarot is their entire identity. If you find someone is lowkey (or highkey) insulting your reading style, know that it has more to do with them than it does with you. There is no reason to go into a tailspin and doubt your own validity because someone said you HAVE to train THIS WAY from THIS TRADITION or YOU'LL NEVER READ WELL. The point is enjoyment. Not pedagogy.
Prepare a list of comebacks for when someone asks "oh did you see that in your cards? Derpderpderp" "No. But I did see you'd be smelling STRAIGHT UP LIKE A BAG OF OLD SCROTUMS TODAY! :D"
If you have even one friend who is ohkay with you reading on them - they are a jackpot of experience. Read on them every so often and write down your observations. Ask them how their day went and check your notes. How close were you?
Practice reading on situations you care literally nothing about. Without the emotional barrier getting in your way, you maaay just be amazed at the things you can get out of a reading.
Do you really wanna read on something but have no idea what? Make up a hypothetical person that doesn't exist. Let the cards tell you about their life. The point is to get experience drawing meaningful information from the cards.
Ask your cards to tell you the emotional states of an artist when they wrote a specific song. What kind of feelings show up in the song _and_ in the cards?
Lean into your intuition. Hard. Particularly when you need more clarity about a card. Is it that you need more clarity? Or that you're hoping to confirm or deny your first instinct? Write that stuff down too.
Go with your _first_ interpretation when you see a card on the table. Yes, you've studied hard. Yes, you know 24 different meanings for The Moon. Yes, they are all wildly incompatible. Which one came to your mind first? Which meaning seems to _usually_ hold true? Which one makes the most sense, given the other cards around it?
Practice spotting tarot imagery in day to day life and relating it to things going on around you. Include these observations in your notes if you decide to journal your experiences.
Learn how your own mind works in relation to the cards as well as which cards come up during certain moods. The cards are a better mirror than they are a roadmap. List your moods and current anxieties in your journal too.
Don't read in a highly emotional state. You won't see clearly anyway and you'll jump at shadows and throw your bloodpressure out of whack. Which brings me to my next tip:
Practice detachment from specific outcomes.
Set a timer for five minutes and have a friend ask you a question. How many connections can you make in five minutes? This sounds counterintuitive but I find being under a limit really knocks me right out of my own way and often brings a flood of information. This may not work for everyone but it's worked for me.
Go through your deck and just admire the imagery. I'm a big believer that divination is fun and the tools are beautiful. Take time to appreciate them.
Practice building stories with the cards. Let court cards be actors in the stories, majors be big moments, motivations, and attitudes, and minors be choices, interactions and struggles.
Combine tarot with other divination methods. The results are often very fun.
Understand the future is not fixed and that divination can make you very very harried if you let it. This is why they say don't read for yourself: you can and might, occasionally, get mighty spooked. Don't attempt to read predictively if you're feeling overwhelmed or anxious. Better to read reflectively in that case.
Research The Fool's Journey. You don't -have- to do it. But I don't -regret- doing it.
Avoid the temptation to read and reread whatever situation is bugging you. Do one reading, get all you can out of it, and wait till something has changed to read again on that topic. A common tip but one worth following. It's better to note your observations and see which assumptions were correct than to keep reading until you get an outcome you like. Not only because it can trip you up emotionally to get invested in the outcomes of your readings but because its important to note how and when you assume the worst- this will be revealed in your notes and once you start to notice those trends you can get a stronger handle on whats genuine intuitive information - and what's just you, being human and assuming the worst.
Most of these tips are meant to illustrate that depending on the situation - the little white book meanings (or the sparkly online meanings. Or the dusty library book meanings.) for every card may not hold for every reader. These methods allow you to make your own connections between events and the cards and thus learn what they're trying to say when they show up for you. That's the _real_ point.
Maybe a journal isn't for you. Maybe a flashdrive of pictures of layouts with textfiles is more your jam? Or a huge pdf you can add to as you go along? Or a google drive? Or a whole private blog? Use what gets you excited and works well for you.
