#women's bodily autonomy
Text
What I will say is this: abortion is good and necessary but the fact so many of them are happening reveals a huge problem with irresponsible and sexually coercive men. And I think that gets buried in the discourse over whether women should even be allowed to have abortions. Personally I think the laws should be on mandating condom use for men. It wouldn't stop all sexual coercion resulting in pregnancy, but it might stop some. And it would be nice to see men squirm and whine about it, tears in their eyes, crying "my freedom! my body, my choice!"

Eliminating a woman's right to seek an abortion would have "very damaging effects on the economy and would set women back decades," Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said while testifying before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee on Tuesday.
State Of Play: Yellen's comments come one week after a leaked draft ruling revealed that the Supreme Court is prepared to potentially overturn Roe v. Wade.
The Big Picture: Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) asked Yellen about the economic consequences for women if the Supreme Court's draft ruling were to be realized.
• "I believe that eliminating the right of women to make decisions about when and whether to have children would have very damaging effects on the economy and would set women back decades."
What They're Saying: "Roe v. Wade, in access to reproductive health care, including abortion, helped lead to increased labor force participation," Yellen said.
• "It enabled many women to finish school, that increased their earning potential. It allowed women to plan and balance their families and careers. And research also shows that it had a favorable impact on the well being and earnings of children," she added.
• Yellen noted that other research has also made clear that denying women access to abortions increases "their odds of living in poverty or in need for public assistance."

The best response I have for any pro-birth advocate trying to convince me to have a baby is to look them dead in the eye and tell them I'd eat the second it was born. Just pull a full Kronos and devour that baby immediately.
And suddenly no one wants me to have children anymore so win-win  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The normalization of mass shootings and horrific violence is unfolding amid growing authoritarian, racist, anti-democratic and oligarchical tendencies that are harming America's identity as the world's leading democracy. Violence and hate against Black, Jewish, Asian American, Latinx and LGBTQ communities, especially over the last seven years, further erode America's democratic promise. Legislative efforts to suppress women's reproductive and bodily autonomy, voting rights, the teaching of racial justice and Black history in schools, and help for immigrants seeking sanctuary from crises at times stoked by US foreign policy, are also a form of political violence that has horribly weakened our country. The same party that is advocating placing control of women's bodies in the hands of local and state governments decries any such restrictions on the rights of citizens to own, operate and utilize weapons of war.

"France became the first country in the world to make abortion a constitutional right Monday [March 4, 2024], with French lawmakers adopting the bill in a 780-72 vote in a move inspired by the U.S. reversal of Roe vs. Wade.
The law gives women a "guaranteed freedom" to choose for themselves if an abortion is the right choice to make.
The amendment won the support of the three-fifths of the 925 National Assembly and Senate members required to pass in an extraordinary afternoon session at the Palace of Versailles just outside Paris in a move that was overwhelmingly supported by the public.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said to those assembled in Congress Hall that "we owe a moral debt" to the women who had to suffer through illegal abortions in the past.
After the vote to approve the constitutional change, Paris' Eiffel Tower was lit with the words in French "my body my choice" in the country where abortion was first legalized in 1975, two years after the United States' first ruling on Roe vs. Wade...
While limiting abortion ranked very low on France's political agenda, lawmakers were prompted to take action to protect abortion rights in 2022 following the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of the 1973 Roe ruling that legalized abortion. Subsequently, several American states have passed laws to restrict or outlaw the procedure.
"I say to all women within our borders and beyond, that today, the era of a world of hope begins," said Attal, who at 34 became the country's youngest prime minister.
This was the first time since 2008 that France took steps to change its constitution. There will be a ceremony to finalize the amendment on Friday [March 8, 2024], which is also International Women's Day."

That's also what I mean when I say I want the debate shifted. There should be no debate on whether women should have abortion. Woman wants abortion, she gets abortion. End of story.
I want fierce debate on how to get men to stop being sexually irresponsible and/or coercive. I want pills recommended, I want condom use mandated, I want fines and jail-time while men insist they really did use it correctly, it just broke! They swear! I want mandatory vasectomies on the table as doctors fight to improve the reversibility.
I don't mean, let's not leave men out of the abortion debate! It takes two to tango! No. I mean no more abortion debate. Women get to have abortions. Period. That's it. I want the abortion debate replaced with an entirely new debate that targets men and men only.

we really need to stop associating facial and body hair with men. it's just hair. someone having a beard or body hair does not instantly make them a man. women, intersex, perisex, trans and cis all can naturally grow beards and body hair. men, intersex, perisex, trans and cis can all never grow facial or body hair, ever.
if a woman has a beard for whatever reason, it doesn't invalidate their womanhood or make them partially or wholly a man. if a man can't grow facial hair or refuses to, this doesn't make them any less of a man. trans and intersex women are not obligated to shave their faces constantly in order to be seen as women. trans and intersex men are not obligated to try to grow or make it look like they grow facial hair in order to be seen as men people deserve bodily autonomy when it comes to hair, especially if it just literally grows there against your will.
