This summer I am going to get rid of my driving fear and try to get my own car and drivers license.
This will be good for me but the anxiety I get when I drive is crazy. Idk how people don’t feel like it’s suck a big deal. It’s literally a giant fucking death machine.

Bike taxi company Rapido to induct more women drivers, expand women-only choice
Rapido is planning to enrol more than 500 women captains in Chennai city alone.
Tumblr media
CHENNAI: In a bid to attract more women users to the platform, bike taxi operator Rapido plans to deploy more women drivers, and expand its women drivers-only feature in selected pockets like women’s colleges.
The startup plans to deploy over 2,500 women riders across the country in the next three months and is looking to further expand the pool of women drivers.
Rapido is planning to enrol more than 500 women captains in Chennai city alone. It is working with various non-profits to induct, and train women from underprivileged backgrounds and offer additional benefits such as insurance, flexible working hours, minimum guarantee pay, and low commission, the company said.
Rapido is already offering a ‘Bike Pink’ service, which allows users to travel only with a female driver and plans to expand this service.
Recently this feature was introduced at 10 women’s colleges in Chennai including Ethiraj College for Women, Stella Maris College for Women, Queen Maris College for Women, MOP Vaishnav College for Women, SIET Women’s College, Quaid-E-Millath College for Women and Chellamal Women’s College.
The company says it aims to provide financial support to women, break gender barriers in the transportation sector and provide more diverse transportation options for passengers.
This illustrates the company’s efforts to encourage more women to use the app by ensuring their sense of safety, given that women users witness harassment and indecent incidents in bike taxi platforms.
The company didn’t specify the preferences of women users but said they are based on a lot of factors including cultural norms.
“While some women may feel safer with female drivers due to shared gender experiences and perceptions of safety, others may not have a strong preference or may prioritize other factors like driver ratings, vehicle quality, or convenience.”
“However, referral programs and NGOs have been seen to emphasize women-to-women mapping which suggests a proactive approach to foster a sense of comfort and trust among women captains. It will also empower more women to participate in the ride-sharing workforce,” Rapido said in response to TNIE’s query.
These women were also provided electric bikes by Rapido in a way to reduce its carbon footprint.

The way some of ya'll talk about the money that pro athletes make betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of how any of this works. Absolutely they're not living in poverty or paycheck to paycheck. But they are still people who exchange labour for capital, the vast majority of them are closer to being just like us than they are to being like the billionaires who pay them.
They spend their entire lives being very good at one thing at the sacrifice of education or a backup plan. They exchange their health and physical well-being for that paycheck. If their careers ended tomorrow, most of them would NOT "be fine". The ones on short term (comparatively to their peers) lower paying contracts do NOT have financial or job security.
This is a labour rights issue!! If you watch sports and are entertained by the labour these people provide it's actually insane to dismiss people who point out the relative lack of security that some of these people have! You're not being smart and you're not being progressive

most of the drivers' reactions to the whole Horner situation is so disappointing tbh. what do you mean someone in the paddock, an employee gets harassed by one of the top figures in the sport and your reaction is either "it has nothing to do with me", or "no comment", "i just like cars and i want to drive", "it's noise and distraction", "i'm here to race", and "it's a good thing for the media", "it doesn't affect me", "i don't really have an interest".
why is it so hard to care about something other than your racing career? you gotta have some morals, dude. not caring about women's safety in your oh so beloved sport is some fucked up behaviour. in situations like this it really shows how fucking privileged they are and it's honestly repulsive.
this is precisely why Lewis is always the one being asked about any non-sport related topic. because he's the only one who cares and gives honest and nuanced answers. genuinely terrified of what this sport will become when he retires, cause no one will speak out on anything.
and then people wonder why we say that f1 is not a safe place for women and that misogyny is still very much a thing in the sport? men don't care, including the president of the fia and f1, the other team principals and most of the drivers as well. when the faces of the sport clearly don't give a shit about women, what kind of hope is there?
they can talk about equality and progressive values and promoting women in motorsports, when this is the reality of how they actually treat the women working in the sport. imagine how that poor woman is feeling, seeing how much the drivers care about what she's going through. utterly disrespectful, with no compassion or empathy.
f1 needs to do so much better.

June 11, 1922 The Gumps by Sid Smith
TOP PANEL [ID: Andy and Chester stand out on the sidewalk, looking at a sign posted up on a brick wall. The sign reads, "FOR SALE: A bull dog. Will eat anything. Very fond of children." The bulldog stands on the corner, glaring at them. /end]
MAIN COMIC [ID: Andy Gump drives a convertible coupe with the top down, a captain's hat on his head. Min and Chester stand beside the car eagerly. /end] Min: Teach me to drive the car, Andy. Mrs. McCormick and all my friends run their own cars. Let me try to run it home. I can drive it all right.
[ID: Min sits in the driver's seat and Chester in the passenger's as Andy stands beside them, leaning over and showing her the ropes. /end] Andy: All right. This one for the gas and this one for the clutch. This is the brake down here. Use this one to start it, the gas. Start on low and then throw in your clutch and switch your gears. Go ahead, now.
[ID: Min begins driving, kicking up a massive cloud of dust behind them. Andy clings onto the car, still standing on the running board. /end] Andy: Be careful, take it easy. Don't get excited.
[ID: They narrowly avoid a tree at the side of the road as Andy frantically clings onto the speeding car. /end] Min: Let go. Let me drive it. Andy: Look out for that tree. Keep on the road.
[ID: Min swerves to avoid a cat and drives the car down a . The family looks terrified. /end] Cat: Meow! Min: Oh, that poor little cat. I almost ran into it. Andy: Look out!
[ID: Min crashes the car through a wooden fence. /end] Cat: Meow.
[ID: Andy lets go of the car and watches haplessly as Min speeds into the front door of a barn. /end]
[ID: He runs around to the rear of the barn just in time to see Min break through the back of the barn, still accelerating. /end] Andy: I knew it.
[ID: Andy stands dejectedly by a lake behind the barn, where Min has finally stopped the car. Min and Chester look saddened. /end] Andy: Yes, you can drive a car. Knock down fences and barns for a cat. What would you do if you met an elephant? You can never learn to drive, you're too nervous.
[ID: Andy leans, concerned, on the driver's side door. Min turns to him, trying to explain herself. /end] Andy: Suppose you saw a skittish horse coming along the road. What would you do then? Blow your horn and scare him to death or run into him and knock his legs off so he couldn't run away? Min: I'd stop the car, of course.
Andy: Huh. Then what? Min: Then I'd stop the engine.
Min: And then, if the horse was still skittish, I would take the machine apart and hide it in the grass till he got safely by.
