Freehand digital painting of the late, great ambassador wolf Zephyr, based on a screenshot taken from the Wolf Conservation Center's webcam in last April, around Zephyr's eleventh birthday. Zephyr passed away on July 2, 2022.
Due South has given me, in addition to everything else, a deep fondness for wolves. I kind of think of Zephyr as the Benton Fraser of wolves, but of course he was his own wolf and I miss him terribly. I barely knew him when I first painted him snuggling with his little brother Nikai back in January, but after that I quickly fell in love with him, watching the ambassador pack on the WCC's webcam almost every day. It's hard to believe he's truly gone now.
I miss fall and winter
I miss the time when the ground was kissed by amber leaves
and the white snow turned to tears
So, I'll bring to you some of those colours on my wings
A couple days ago, the Wolf Conservation Center in New York announced the tragic news that their beloved ambassador wolf, Zephyr, pass away due.
This artwork is dedicated to Zephyr, his siblings, Nikai and Alawa, and the Wolf Conservation Center. This is for all they have done to protect wolves and educate people about them as well as for bringing light and love into our homes with their majestic howls.
Rest in Peace, sweet Zephyr.
May you rest well and forevermore frolic with all of wolves' past.
