This happened back in like sept 2022 but it was still a hell of an experience to deal with.. T_T
Had to purchase a wifi adapter for my desktop since there’s no ethernet ports at my dorm (wow ??), went to Walmart and bought the best one they had (Poor box dated 2016, 802.11ac, but I needed *something*). Started having bizarre disconnects/failures & I tried ruling out everything *but* my WiFi adapter...
After a few consultations with my other networking IT friends one of them lended me a spare network adapter for me to test, --> errors went away(ish)! Turns out the adapter was faulty; interesting luck. Resolution was to drop another 60 bucks or so on an actual wifi adapter, purchased a PCIe wifi card that supports Wifi 6/802.11ax. I originally wasn’t seeking to get the most powerful wifi card-- I just needed something that could allow me to stay online with a stable connection. But hey, I won’t complain. B)

#IoT phone home - snooping on my #network to see what my devices are saying to their overlords
The Internet of Things (IoT) is very handy. I enjoy being able to adjust the lights in my living room just by talking to Siri. Or having lights turn on and off at set times of the day. But as we all know, IoT devices don’t just talk to us. In order to work, they need to communicate with all kinds of servers. And so I wanted to know what my devices are saying, and to whom. You would expect a lot…
