Drawing paper review: Strathmore medium surface drawing paper 130gsm
Tumblr media
Hello lovely people, here’s my next drawing paper review. This time it’s a Strathmore medium paper, one of three kinds I’m trying from this brand. TL;DR review is at the beginning of this post, full review is after that.
[Content warning: profanity]
STRATHMORE MEDIUM SURFACE DRAWING PAPER (OFF-WHITE)
Source: Jackson’s art online
Description: acid-free medium finish paper for dry media, creamy off-white colour, says “heavy weight” - but at 130 gsm? Mate... This is drawing paper not printer paper, so I think the fuck not.
Price: £5.70 for 24 8x10 inch sheets (mid-range)
TL;DR review: does what it says on the tin - good with dry media for sketches/finished work. I liked it, but for me personally; I prefer brighter white paper for work destined for print. It’s not as all-round-amazing as the Stonehenge from last time for detailed commission work. So I’m going to keep it as an affordable paper to draw less finicky-detail-heavy work, and for sketching. It’s still good for the price, and it’s the kind of paper that stops me obsessing TOO much over tiny details (well, as much as anything can) because it’s too rough for any of my bullshit.
Tumblr media
Blue tack test: 3 out of 3, no tearing.
Shading test: survived 8 colours well. But by the end there was some fluffing (of the paper fibres, get your minds out of the gutter you dirty sods) where the pencil point started to distrurb things.
Tumblr media
Strathmore medium paper tests; the blue tack and shading tests determine how well the surface of paper keeps its shit together. Details of tests are here
What did I draw? A teeny illustration of the hawkmoth species Pergesa acteus, in polychromos oil-based pigment pencils. My Patreon patrons will find a digital print of this moth in their May round-up post. More WIP for this piece is below along with the drawing experience notes.
Tumblr media
Drawing experience
This paper is not as smooth as I usually use, but it’s a good middle ground for pencil work between a smooth/hot press, and cold-press paper. It’s rough enough to hang onto pastel/charcoal/carbon black pencils, as well as graphite & colour pencil. But it’s not sooo rough that I end up sharpening my pencils every 30 bastardtittyfucking seconds (which really gets on my nerves.) And I mean fair enough if we’re talking about something like a cold press watercolour paper - those papers weren’t designed for colour pencils. So I can’t be too tetchy about them being a bit cheesegrater-y on my pencil points. But given a fuck of lot of us drawing types often find we only have hot and cold press papers to choose from... It’s nice to find something different, and if you’re looking for a surface between hot and cold-press for drawing, this might be for you.
Tumblr media
However, it’s not as easy to render extremely small details on rougher paper, and you know me, I tend to over-obsess about those. So my first impression was; this is an ideal sketching paper! But this paper doesn’t take so kindly to layering very fine lines by repeatedly using a pin-sharp colour pencil, or my beloved 0.3mm mech pencil. Unfortunately for this paper, I do like layering. Also it is SOMEWHAT cheesegrater-y relative to Stonehenge fine art paper.
Tumblr media
That said, I enjoyed using it; it feels comfortable enough for drawing on the go, because it has a good sturdy hardback on the spiral-bound pads (I also have a tiny 4x6″ pad of this for graphite travel doodles). And because it isn’t too spendy - or too heavy - I was less worried about getting bends/creases in it (something which really pisses me off about some heavier papers that I otherwise love.) Also… It’s not a bad thing  to have a paper that encourages me to draw more loosely. I need to remember I can draw in the moment, and not every gahdammed thing has to be detailed down to the tiniest dot!
Tumblr media
My overall feeling about this paper; it’s good for what it says it’s good for, but don’t expect too much, y’all. It does what it says on the tin; it’s good for dry media for sketches/finished work, but with the caveat that you really can’t overwork your layers/detail on it.

Ellement of Surprise; Loki x OC
The too long fan fiction that no one asked for. Now back to my current WIP that will never see the tumblr light of day 😂
No warnings, no word count. Please enjoy so I can get back to my regularly scheduled writing.
———————
“Loki.” The voice is quiet amidst all the noise and chaos.
The man in question turns to its source and finds a young woman staring at him with eyebrows raised. Her long blond hair falls limply about her face, covered in the soot of the fallen buildings. She moves towards him slowly and keeps her eyes on him until she’s reached the man on the floor. Thor, God of Thunder, is panting at her feet and she kneels to press cloth to the wound in his gut. Her gaze is reproachful as she looks back to Loki. He sheaths his dagger in defiance and curls a lip in distaste. The way is clear to the throne and he turns to the portal in haste.
His cloak billows behind him and he’s nearly reached the portal when he hears the weapon discharge. Loki turns, ready to defend but finds there is no need. On the floor beneath him she lays, clutching at the hole in her chest. A weapon charges again and Loki whirls, throwing the dagger through the throat of the one who sought to harm him. He scans the room. Thor stirs on the floor, his vigor returning but she grows more still. The color has nearly left her when he takes her into his arms and exits through the portal.
The tunnel is perpetually damp. A salty tang fills his lungs as he steps through the portal. He moves carefully to the opening in the cliff side, mindful of every loose rock. It is nearly impossible to remove his gaze from the woman in his arms. Her breath is slight and her heartbeat faint but still they are there as markers of her life and so he presses on with her. The waters of Asgard are calm as he gazes out over the sea. There is little movement on the bridges and he closes his eyes to focus. Heimdalt must not see.
It is four days later when she awakens and Loki holds his breath. She sits up slowly, painfully, grasping instinctively at her chest. Her hands shake as she pulls off the top and to his credit Loki looks away. He listens to her tears as she examines the wound and rolls his eyes. Midgardians are so fragile, he thinks to himself. He risks a glance and his eyes go wide. She’s clothed and staring straight into his eyes. No, through his eyes. Loki steps to the side but her gaze doesn’t follow. He slips carefully through the cracked door and pauses a few minutes before entering the room.
Her gaze shoots towards him and this time he knows she see him. A slight smile adorns her face. “Where am I?”
“Asgard,” he answers with a voice of disdain. A faint flush creeps into her cheeks and he pauses to consider its meaning. “Why did you step in front of me?”
The question is abrupt but his voice is controlled. He’d planned to wait for this interrogation. Need for an answer gnawed within him as guilt pulled at his gut. He averted his eyes from the bandages peeking out from her shirt.
“I... I didn’t want you to die.” She shrugs and the color dulls in her cheeks. Her brow furrows and then clears. “Did Thor bring me here?”
Loki’s teeth grind together. Of course her thoughts are of Thor, he thinks. Did she save him for his brother’s favor?
“No,” he responds in a clipped tone. “I did.”
“Why?”
“Is it not possible for the God of Mischief to have compassion?” He didn’t mean it. His only desire is to question her and to free himself from the burden of life debt. He’s prepared for the list of his misdeeds but instead she smiles. He can see that it reaches her bright eyes as she brushes the hair from her face.
“Of course it is. I’m sorry I—Thank you.” Her words are earnest and he studies the way she leans towards him and how her gaze never wavers. She seems genuine and he bristles within. Without intending another word he turns to leaves the chambers but stops, compelled.
“How are you healing?”
She moves with small, tentative motions. There are several movements which cause her to wince and he makes a mental note to speak with her attendants.
“It feels okay,” she says quietly and for the first time Loki notes the deception in her voice.
“Truly?”
Her mouth opens and the color returns to her cheeks. “It hurts,” she admits quietly. “But I’ll be okay.”
Midgardians have always been terrible at deception but this one, this one is extreme. One probe of verification and she crumbles. Part of him wants to disdain her for that alone. Part of him is still curious.
“I will be okay, right,” she asks, her voice anxious. Loki realizes some emotion must have crossed his face because now she is unsure.
“A scar should be all the remains,” he assures her.
“When can I go home?”
“Home?”
“Back to earth,” she clarifies and Loki’s brow furrows. No mention of reward, no statement of debt.
“You wish to go home?”
“Y-yes, as soon as I am well.”
————
It is a week before Loki returns to her chambers. Perhaps fear of his failure to return will pressure her to reveal the price. When he arrives at her chambers, the door is a ajar. She is nowhere to be found and his breath hitches. Most of the people do not know a Midgardian is among them and so he fears where she’s gone.
He races through the halls, glancing into rooms and straining his senses. At last he finds her, standing at the end of a corridor and staring up at the art with a look of awestruck wonder. She jumps when he appears at her side but to his surprise she does not cry out. Instead she looks abashed, like a petulant child denied a treat. Footsteps sound down the hallway and Loki recognizes the metal of the guards.
“Trust me,” he whispers, placing a finger to his lips as a green light flashes and suddenly a man in regal dress stands where he once was. A mixture of awe and confusion spreads across her face and she turns to the source of the noise. The guards stand at attention when their gaze falls to the man and each steps back, deferring to the guard at center.
“Commander and ...,” he waits, inclining his head to the woman at his side. Loki realizes a pertinent question had been left unasked.
“Elle,” she supplies for him with a warm smile on her face. “Its a pleasure to meet you.” She greets each one in turn and Loki’s eyes narrow at the wince in her eyes.
“Forgive us the intrusion, but we’ve received word that Loki is alive and up to his old habits. Thor’s been injured but is recovering.”
Loki freezes. From the outside, the Commander is stricken with concern for his son and the chaos the God of Mischief might incur. On the inside, Loki weighs his options as Elle will surely—
“He’s aware.” Elle inclined her head towards Loki, still in his new form. “You don’t think we midgardians come just for a casual chat, do you?”
They exchange a look and murmur their assent. Loki bids them on and steers her more forcefully than he intends around the corner. A flare of green and it’s his blue eyes piercing her once more.
“You didn’t divulge my charade?”
“You said to trust you,” she answered with a shrug. Loki wants to scream with the simplicity of the answer.
“People don’t tend to do that.”
Her fingers gently, carefully, touch the exposed skin of his forearm. “Sorry.”
Before he can ask, she turns and walks down the corridor. It’s a few beats before he moves to catch up with her. “You’re sorry?”
“If I hadn’t walked out of my room, there wouldn’t have been any of that. I’ve just grown stir crazy.”
Loki can’t believe his ears. Guilt wasn’t an emotion he felt often, but waves crashed upon him. The situation was singlehandedly his own doing and yet here she stood apologizing for seeking to stretch her legs. The Midgardian who could not lie allowed others to be misled.. for him. A light feeling bubbled in his chest, reminding him of discussions with Frigga. He grabs her arm and then hesitates, the green aura of his magic dancing around them as he steps back.
“Join me,” he says, extending a hand. The awkward blur between command and invitation brings a smirk to Elle’s lips but she takes his hand willingly and he leads her through the castle. The turns are never ending, they go up staircases and through hidden corridors, and once or twice she finds herself hastily thrust into an alcove as guards pass but finally they arrive at his destination.
Elle gasps and walks to the edge of the balcony as it overlooks Asgard. It is shielded from view on most sides and so Loki steps with her, pointing out the various buildings of the world he lives in. When she turns to him, the awestruck wonder on her face strikes him to his core. Suspicions flutter at the edge of his mind, overshadowed by the radiance of her joy and an answering smile twitches at his lips.
Pieces of the rail are eroded away and Elle steps carefully around broken marble. She crouches low and slides on her bottom to the edge, allowing her legs to dangle.
“Join me,” she asks with a raised eyebrow and Loki bristles slightly at the mockery but concedes to her playful demeanor. As he moves beside her he notes that her skin has paled within the last hour.
“How’re you feeling?”
“A bit dizzy,” she admits. “I’m sure it’s just a symptom of exertion. C-could you..”
“Could I,” Loki repeats, an icy feeling seeping into his chest as he prepares for the request she’ll give him. Now more than ever she must assume he has a debt to repay.
“I don’t want to go back to my room quite yet, but I am feeling a bit light-headed. I-I didn’t know if there was anything you could do about that, but I imagine you have better things to do than tend to me..”
Loki clears his throat. “I’m not a healer. What do you know of me, Midgardian?”
Elle purses her lips and her brow draws together as she considers the venom in his words. “You’re Loki, God of Mischief. Occasional enemy and occasional friend of the avengers.. And for some reason determined to argue with me—I’ll make my way back to my room now.”
She stands with surprising speed and he clenches his fist against the urge to catch her as she sways. His teeth grind together as she continues forward but he resolves to watch her walk away.
An hour passed before he brings himself to move from the spot. Every sight before him transforms into her and he must admit she’s beautiful. However it is not her beauty that compels him but her demeanor—the kindness and respect in her eyes is like nothing he’s experienced since Frigga.
When he enters the castle he freezes immediately. Elle is tucked into the nearest alcove, her arms wrapped around her torso as it rises and falls gently. The worries of her face have softened as she sleeps and Loki contemplates what to do. She stirs as his footsteps approach and he stills once more.
“This isn’t your room,” he notes drily. His ire fades as she giggles nervously and a flush creeps into her cheeks.
“I fell and was too weak to stand,” she admits. “I decided to rest and try again later.”
“Why not fetch me?”
“You can’t have it both ways, you know. Either you want people to rely on you or you don’t. I felt you made it clear that I was to ask nothing of you.”
“So you do want something then?”
“I want to go home.”
“Loki has better things to do, eh,” Elle comments to the woman, Yara, who’s been her attendant in Asgard. All wounds have healed and only the faintest hint of scar remains.
“He’s not one for sentiment.”
“Do I have the time to find him,” she asks, turning to Heimdalt who, for a moment, looks through her.
“The bifrost is available when needed. Loki is in the vault.”
Yara appears apprehensive, but concedes to take Elle back to the castle. They walk the corridors in silence until Yara draws back before a set of ornate doors. Elle steels herself for the rebuff, straightening her shoulders and lifting her chin before marching through the doors.
His back is to her but he stiffens as she approaches. Growing meek, she stops a few feet from him and clears her throat. When he doesn’t turn she proceeds.
“I’m ready to leave.”
“Then go.”
“I wanted to say goodbye, and to thank you.”
Loki whirls then and she notices the pale blue of his skin, the vibrant red of his eyes. A wooden casket is in his hands and she studies it curiously.
“Midgardians and their pleasantries,” he spits at her but Elle is undeterred. She steps forward carefully, stopping within arms reach. His eyes tighten as she touches the skin of his cheek and she resists the urge to pull away from the frigid surface. Instead she rises on her toes and touches her lips gently to the opposing cheek.
“Thank you, Loki,” she murmurs, blue eyes meeting red. The casket drops from his hand back to the pedestal he plucked it from and his complexion changes to its usual pallor. Elle smiles as her thumb caresses his cheek and then she turns to leave. Once more he wills himself not to follow her, but this time he’s unsuccessful.
“Elle,” he whispers, a breath in the wind but she stops and turns expectantly. Loki hesitates, unsure of what spell he’s fallen under. This woman, this Midgardian woman, has been in his company for no more than a week and yet there’s an emptiness at the thought of her leaving. How starved for companionship has he become?
“What is it,” she prompts when he fails to continue and he clears his throat.
“Did you know,” he asked, gesturing to the cask behind him. Her brow furrows. “Did you know that my true name is Loki Laufeyson, heir to Jotunheim? That I am a frost giant.”
The more he speaks the greater her confusion but he cannot help but ask. The answer matters more than he can form into words. She shifts self consciously.
“I suppose that explains the cold,” she chuckles. “I didn’t know. Does it matter?”
“T-to some.”
“To you?”
Loki’s breath catches in his throat. He thinks of Frigga, of some of his last words to her. He considers Odin. He remembers the comments he’s endured with avengers and asgardians alike.
“And yet not to you.”
“What does that mean?”
“Everyone sees the God of Mischief, the frost giant... but not you... why? It’s troubled me all the time you’ve been here. You’ve only ever seen.. me.”
The emotion is tight in his throat. He hasn’t meant to be so revealing but to keep her any longer would be to incur the interest of Thor and the others. He couldn’t bear himself to hold her any longer and thus he must free it all at once. Elle smiles.
“No one’s perfect... and everyone needs kindness. I try to make everyone smile,” she shrugs and Loki aches at the generality.
“I see,” he hedges careful and Elle steps forward. Barley an inch is between them as she looks up into his eyes.
“I will say... your smile has become much more endearing to me.”
With that she raises on her toes again, holding his head in her hands. Nervously her lips press against his before she slides backwards, but this time his hands move with her. He wraps his arms around her waist, hindering her escape.
“Stay,” Loki whispers as his forehead touches hers. The uncertainty is clear in her eyes and his gaze becomes more earnest. “I.. I haven’t felt this in so long and you.. you feel something too, yes? Please stay.”
At a loss for words, Elle rises up again and presses her lips to his. “Okay.”

Sound Like An Angel | Kihyun
Tumblr media
Characters: Fem Reader x Single Dad!Kihyun ft. kid!Changkyun
Genre: fluff, VERY SLIGHT smut..Like I gave up on actually trying and just skimmed the top...
Length: 8.5k
A/N: So, I was harassed (not really, i wanted it too) into writing this, and I’m actually surprised at how fast I got it finished, especially when I can’t write for any of my other wips right now OTL
I apologize for any typos I may have missed, and please don’t tell me how bad the smut is, I know...I KNOW
“Give it to me!” Minhyuk screeches as he tugs on the toy Jooheon is desperately hanging onto. You’ve tried multiple times to break that up today, part of you doesn’t think you can go for another. Minhyuk gives a particularly sharp pull, successfully claiming the toy, but also causing Jooheon to face plant into the legos. A sharp cry immediately follows.
You’re in the middle of wiping clean a young girl’s face when the other teacher, Shownu, gives you a pleading and apologetic look. He’s stuck in a tea party with all the girls and the last time he got up to leave they all shouted until he sat back down. “Could you please go check on them again?”
“Of course!” You finish up wiping the young girl’s cheeks and then toss away the tissue before standing up and making your way towards Minhyuk and Jooheon. Along the way you catch sight of your small and new shadow trudging along behind you. Your lips quick in amusement and you hold out a hand. Soon after, Chankgyun’s small fingers grip onto your own.
“Minhyuk, you can’t pull people like that,” you chide gently as you reach the boys and lift Jooheon up from the ground. He continues to sob and wipe at his face with closed fists.
“But it was my turn to play with it!”
“That doesn’t mean you can be rude.” You give him a stern look and for a moment he gives you a defiant look back. It’s only your first week in helping out with the after school program, but all it took was your first day to learn that Minhyuk had more personality than his 7 year old body could hold. You give your look just the slightest bit more attitude, you’re a grown woman, you’ve mastered the art of intolerance for bratty behavior.
The expression on your face successfully has Minhyuk dropping his gaze. He mutters an apology to Jooheon before racing off with the toy. You sigh but can’t do anything more because you know that’s all you’re going to get out of the hyper child. Jooheon has ceased his crying, but he’s still hiccuping from his tantrum.
You reach out and brush back Jooheon’s hair and give him a soft smile. You spare a quick glance back at Changkyun who’s now playing with his toy dinosaurs. As he followed you around throughout the day, he would carry the toys under his arms, only playing with them when you came to a stop.
Just then he looks up at you with his dark brown eyes, slightly widened as they take in your questioning expression. Silently, as if understanding your internal question, he nods. With a grateful smile you turn back to Jooheon and help wipe away the lingering tears.
“Jooheon, let’s go get you some water, and then I’m sure if you ask, Changkyun will let you play dinosaurs with him.”
“I don’t” - hic - “know any dinosaurs,” Jooheon grumbles and sniffles.
“Then Changkyun will have to teach you. C’mon, it’ll be fun!”
After a moment of more sniffling, Jooheon peeks at Changkyun. The latter holds out a dinosaur to him and Jooheon hesitantly takes it. Jooheon studies the toy for a moment before he gives you a nod in agreement and you smile before you lead both of them to the snack station for water.
When Jooheon’s completely calmed down, Changkyun takes him to the opposite side of the room and they plant themselves down with the dinosaurs. Crisis averted, you sigh in relief and then begin to pick up the other toys left around.
“I’m sure this isn’t what you were expecting when you agreed to this,” Shownu says coming to stand beside you; the tea party must be over. “But the other after school supervisor quit so suddenly we needed a fast replacement. I know they’re working on finding someone new so it shouldn’t be much longer.”
Shownu was one of your closest co-workers here at the school. You at first thought his calm, almost robotic, demeanor would make him an awkward teacher. But when you saw him in action, you found he was actually really good at getting the students engaged with the learning. He was also one of the first to greet you and give you some tips when you first started at the school.
You shake your head. “No, don’t worry about it. I mean, I’m more used to the older kids but this is still fun.”
Shownu chuckles. “I’m sure the fifth graders are much more behaved than these rascals.”
You grin. “They have their moments.”
With a matching grin, Shownu checks his watch. “The parents should start trickling in soon. Do you mind if I step out real quick? I just need to run to my car for something.”
“Go for it, I’ll be fine.”
With a grateful look Shownu’s jogging off. When he’s gone you glance around the room to make sure all the kids are happy and then continue cleaning up. You’ve moved on to wiping the snack table clean when you realize Changkyun has taken to following you once more, this time with Jooheon. They go back and forth in making dinosaur roars and you smile softly at the scenes.
A few parents come in then to gather their kids and you help them with the sign out sheets. Shownu comes back as they’re leaving and flashes a thumbs up as he takes over cleaning duties and you continue to sit at the sign out desk.
At this point of the afternoon, you’ve taken to grading papers while you wait for parents to arrive. As you’re marking a grade in the corner there’s a gentle rasp of knuckles on the table. You look up and— oh.
The man in front of you is immaculately dressed in his white button down and black dress pants. The sleeves of his shirt are rolled up to his elbows. His dark hair is gelled up but a few strands have broken away and dangle against his forehead. The whole look— a slightly disheveled office worker look— has your lips parting and your stomach sinking
“Hello, I’m Yoo Kihyun, I’m here to pick up my son, Changkyun. My, uh, ex-wife usually does this so I’m not entirely sure where to go.”
Changkyun looks up at his name and beams when he sees the man. “Daddy!” He clambers up to his feet and runs off to greet his father with a hug. “Dad! I made a friend today.”
Running back to Jooheon, Changkyun grabs the other’s hand and pulls him up to introduce him. “This is Jooheon!”
“Hi, Jooheon, I’m Changkyun’s father.” The man smiles down at the boys and Jooheon greets him shyly but politely. “Changkyun has to come home now, but you two can play again tomorrow, is that okay?”
Jooheon nods and hands back one of the dinosaurs to Changkyun before waving and running off to join the other kids. Kihyun turns back to you with a grin and— oh no.
“So, uh, how does this work?”
“Oh, you just have to, um, sign this next to Changkyun’s name so that we know he’s accounted for.” As you speak you hand him the clipboard with the sign out sheet and slide it towards him. He gives you a nod and then picks a pen from the cup sitting on the desk. You sneak a peek at him as he signs.
His cheekbones and jawline are angular and attention drawing. His eyes, a dark and alluring brown hold a certain mirth them that makes you yearn to see his smile again. When he’s done, Kihyun slides the clipboard back to you and you take it in a sort of daze.
Awkwardly he clears his throat and you break out of your reverie to blink up at him. When you meet his eyes the mirth has changed into full blown amusement, his lips pulled in a smirk.
“Thank you…”
“Uh, I’m Y/N,” you tell him, voice suddenly quiet.
“You’re Y/N? Oh, Kyunnie talks about you a lot.” His expression turns thoughtful as his eyes roam over your face. “He wasn’t lying when he said you were the prettiest teacher.”
Your eyes widen and— oh my God.
Heat spreads along your cheeks as your lips open and close as you try to figure out how to reply. “U-uh...I...uh, th-thank you.”
The corners of his eyes crinkle when he laughs at your response. “Well, thank you for watching Changkyun, I’ll see you soon then.”
You can only silently nod as Changkyun goes to grab his things and then follows his father out of room. Before the door shuts on him, Kihyun turns around and waves to you.
Despite his words, you don’t see Kihyun again for a while. Your temporary position in the after school program soon comes to an end and you once again refocus on your actual job as fifth grade teacher. Occasionally you think of the handsome father from that day despite knowing it won’t lead anywhere.
Until one day, there’s a knock on your classroom door. You glance up from grading papers and meet Shownu’s sheepish look. “Oh good, you’re still here! I’m so sorry to bother you, but could I get your help with something?”
“Sure,” you nod. “What’s wrong?”
“I accidentally stepped on one of Changkyun’s dinosaurs and broke it. The new teacher is trying to superglue it back together but we can’t get Changkyun to calm down. I know he was fond of you and you had a certain way with him, so maybe you could give it a shot?”
Standing, you immediately nod and follow Shownu out of the room.
When you reach your destination you find Changkyun sobbing with a worried Jooheon fussing over him. Nearby, the new after school teacher is hastily trying to superglue the toy, but the constant worried glances she sends towards the crying boy were slowing her down. Jooheon noticed you coming towards them and beamed gratefully as you knelt down besides them.
“Hey, Changkyun,” you start, voice soft. “Changkyun, no more tears, yeah?”
Peeking up over his hands at you, he suddenly stops his sobbing and stumbles forward to wrap his small arms around your neck. He burrows his face in your shoulder and you can feel a few more of his tears soak into your shirt. You lift him and move over to sit in a chair so you can comfortably hold his weight.
He latches onto you and you idly stroke the back of his head. Jooheon follows the two of you and pulls up a chair next to you. Instead of climbing onto it, however, he goes to collect the rest of Changkyun’s dinosaurs and carries them over to line them up on the table in front of you. Once his task is complete, Jooheon sits down in his chair and gently kicks his feet back and forth.
After a moment, you realized Changkyun’s sniffles have turned to soft snores and you peek down to see he’s fallen asleep. With a little laugh, you use your thumbs to wipe away the leftover tears on his face. A sudden shadow falls over you and you look up to see Kihyun watching the two of you softly.
Eyes widening, you begin to stand. “Kihyun... I was just-”
He shakes his head with a soft grin. “Shownu was just telling me what happened. I’m sorry you had to come deal with it.”
When Kihyun notices you having some trouble standing, he reaches down and hefts Changkyun’s body up and into his arms. You watch in almost awe as Kihyun coos over Changkyun’s sleeping face and gently pinches his cheek. Remembering he said something to you, you blink away your daze. “Don’t even worry about it. I’m here to help the students.”
Kihyun glances at you and then turns back to Changkyun as he shifts him softly onto his hip. He’s still not looking at you when he says, “I haven’t seen you here in awhile.”
Your brows lift a little at his statement trying to ignore the happiness it ignites in you. He was looking for me?
“I was just temporarily filling in while they found a permanent employee. I, uh, I teach the fifth graders here.”
Kihyun looks at you in interest, “Oh, then it looks like our Changkyunnie has something to look forward to.” He ruffles Changkyun’s hair and the action has him blinking blearily up at his father. He gives him a sleepy smile before burying his head on Kihyun’s shoulder.
“Well I should get him home, looks like nap time is a little early today.”
You nod and then help collect all of Changkyun’s things. The new teacher, hands you the mended dinosaur and you stick it and all other toys in Changkyun’s backpack. When you zip it up and hand it over to Kihyun his fingers graze your hand and it has shockwaves zinging through you.
“Thank you,” he says again with a tender smile. You can only nod in response and then he’s gone.
You release a heavy sigh but then feel a hand tug on your pencil skirt. You glance down and find Jooheon looking up at you. “Teacher Y/N, why do you look at Changkyun’s dad like that?”
You frown. “Like what?”
“Like you looooooove him,” Jooheon says with a mischievous look. Nearby, Shownu chokes on a breath and hides his laugh with his hand. You look between the two of them in disbelief.
“No I do not,” you say calmly. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have papers to finish grading.”
As you walk past Shownu at the front desk he’s looking down at papers but softly he says, “You kinda do.”
You only give him a glare over your shoulder.
A couple days later you’re once again grading papers at your desk. There’s a knock on your door and not wanting to break your concentration you call a quick, “Come in,” without looking up. The door clicks open and you hear a pair of footsteps come in. Still not looking up you murmur, “Give me one second...aaand...done!”
You write the score in the top corner and circle it before setting it aside with the other graded sheets. After, you look up and the sight in front of you has your heart fluttering. Kihyun stands on the other side of your desk with a smiling and giddy Changkyun on his back.
Kihyun looks amazing in another dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, this time in dark navy, with black pants. His hair is once again gelled up and you’re really beginning to like this look on him. He’s looking around the classroom in interest, not realizing you’ve fixed your attention on him.
You watch as his eyes first go to the whiteboard with the leftover notes you’d jotted down for the kids. Then they go to the math charts and reading posters that decorate the walls. His eyes trail up and take in the geometrical mobiles you had the kids make a few months back to learn about different shapes. Finally his eyes drop down to your own and glide over your features. It only takes a moment for a smile that has your heart wanting to burst out of your chest, blooms across his face. “You have marker on your cheek.”
You hand reaches up to cover it hastily. You open a drawer on your desk and pull out a handheld mirror. Grabbing a tissue and your water bottle, you get the tissue damp and then rub at your face.
“W-what are you two doing here?”
Kihyun sets Changkyun down and then crouches to whisper in his son’s ear. Changkyun listens and then nods with excitement. You watch with caution as Changkyun bounds over to you and pokes at your arm. In your chair, you spin to face him and then he motions for you to lean forward. You do as he says and then he leans in to speak into your ear.
“Dad wants to know if you want to eat with us.” He peeks at his father and you see Kihyun motion with his hands to continue. “As a thank you.”
You sit up and feel your cheeks warm, unable to look at Kihyun you quirk a brow at Changkyun. “Eat with you? Now when would this meal take place?”
“Tonight!” Changkyun announces with a grin.
You pretended to think on it, pressing a finger to your chin. As you hum to yourself, you tilt your head to the left and right, Changkyun giggling at your antics and giving a little impatient hop. The soft chuckle that comes from Kihyun may as well have been amplified by the effect it had on you. Your breath comes out a little shaky. “Well, I guess I can make some time.”
Changkyun beams at you and then looks at his father in excitement. He then runs back to his father and turning bashful suddenly, hides behind Kihyun’s legs. Kihyun laughs and then grins at you. “Changkyun and I usually go out for burgers on nights I have him but if you don’t want to do that we can find something else.”
You shake your head. “Burgers are fine. That actually sounds really good.”
Kihyun tells you the address of the place he and Changkyun usually go to and the two of you decide on a meeting time. After they leave, you’re quicker in your grading, wanting a chance to get home for a shower and a change of clothes.
As you shut down your classroom for the night, you find yourself brimming with giddiness.
When you reach the burger joint, you do a quick once over in the car mirror before internally scolding yourself. It’s not a date, his son is here too. You shut your eyes and push away all thoughts of dates from your head. Opening your eyes, you fix a stray strand of hair and then grab your purse and sweater.
The place is a little busier than you expected so it takes a while to spot Kihyun and Changkyun. You spot the latter first as he’s bouncing in his chair with excitement, a giant milkshake in front of him. When you spot Kihyun next to him, the air might as well have been sucked from your lungs.
You don’t know why, but you were expecting him to be in the usual clothes you saw him in, dress shirt and pants ironed nicely without anything out of place. What you see instead is casual and laid back.
He’s wearing a thin grey sweater under a casual suit jacket. His hair is completely pulled back from his forehead, held back by a black beanie atop his head. Wire framed glasses sit perched on his nose as he watches Changkyun with gentle amusement.
Kihyun catches you staring then and you momentarily panic at being caught. But he only perks up and waves you over. At his motions, Changkyun looks over and claps with happiness. When you reach the table, you sit across from them and before you can set your things in the empty chair next to you, Changkyun is picking up his milkshake and prancing over to the chair.
“I wanna sit next to Teacher Y/N,” he announces as he’s already sitting down and giving you the widest grin, dried chocolate drying on his chin and cheeks.
Kihyun laughs and then holds his hands out for your things. You tentatively hand them over and he carefully drapes your sweater on the back of the chair next to him and sets your purse on the chair cushion.
“I’m glad you could make it,” Kihyun starts. With his attention completely on you, you find yourself suddenly shy. Thankfully he continues on so you don’t have to respond right away. “Kyunnie, here, got a little impatient so I let him get a milkshake, but I told him we’d wait till you got here for food.”
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry to make you guys wait,” you apologize.
Kihyun only waves it away. “I forgot how busy this place could get until super last minute. We’ve only been here for a couple minutes longer than you, we needed to score our favorite table, right?”
He directs this last part at Changkyun and in return, the young boy nods as he sips on the straw in his beverage. Kihyun then hands you a menu. “Here you are, take your time looking through, we order the same thing every time, plus we’re in no rush.”
You take the plastic wrapped menu from him and look through it. There are so many options you can’t decide. Eventually you turn to Changkyun and put on an expression of mock seriousness. “Okay, kiddo, I need help.”
Changkyun turns his full attention to you, his face eager to help you. You give him a questioning look and when he nods that he’s ready for the question you nod back. “I don’t know what to get, and it sounds like you come here quite often, so can you tell me what’s good?”
He’s quick to nod and you place the menu in between the two of you. Changkyun begins to explain all his favorites, the cheeseburger with no onions (because onions are icky), the onion rings because they come in the shape of a tower and the sauces are yummy, etc. etc. You listen attentively and also a little surprised because this is the most you’ve ever seen him talk in one go.
When he’s finished with his menu tour, you blink in thought, and Kihyun laughs outright at your expression. “You probably weren’t expecting all that, huh?”
“Honestly, no,” you laugh. “Mmm, maybe I’ll play it safe and stick with the cheeseburger.”
Kihyun grins. “Good choice. Anything to drink?”
You peek at Changkyun and nudge him gently. “Should we match milkshakes?”
He nods, happy at your suggestion and you laugh a little as you tell Kihyun you’d like a chocolate milkshake.
You watch as Kihyun gets up and jogs up to the counter to get in everyone’s orders. As you wait, you ask Changkyun questions about his classes and he once again gets kind of shy, reverting back to soft spoken sentences.
When Kihyun returns with all the food, you help distribute it out and then all three of you fall into a momentary silence as you begin eating. After a while Kihyun turns to you. “So, Y/N, what made you decide to be a teacher?”
You shrug as you dig around your fries for one of your liking. “It was nothing really specific. I just liked teaching people things. I was a student teacher for high schoolers but wasn’t a fan so I’m giving younger kids a shot and I’m enjoying it.”
“That’s nice,” Kihyun says with a nod. “You found what you liked and pursued it. I wasn’t that lucky, but I like my job and it puts food on the table so how can I complain right?”
“You never found a “dream job” so to say?”
“Hmm, it’s not that I never found it, but it would’ve made things difficult if I went after it. We had Changkyun at a pretty young age so I had to be realistic.”
“What did you want to do?” You take a sip of your milkshake and notice Changkyun has ketchup on his cheeks. Putting down your cup, you pick up a napkin and begin to clear his face. He squirms under your hold and when you gently tickle his neck he giggles.
“You’re really good with him,” Kihyun points out, changing the subject.
“Teacher Y/N is the best,” Changkyun says despite his efforts to swat away your hands. “She made me and Jooheon best friends.”
“The best, huh?” You ask. Changkyun’s cheeks blush and he picks up his cheeseburger to take a big bite. You ruffle his hair and then turn back to Kihyun, he’s watching his son with an endearing look. He catches your eyes and gives you a charming smile that has your stomach fluttering. Clearing your throat, you bring the conversation back. “You never answered.”
Kihyun’s grin turns shy. “It’s embarrassing.” You give him an encouraging nod. He releases an exhale and kind of laughs. “I wanted to pursue singing.”
“Singing? Kihyun, that’s not embarrassing! That’s really cool!”
“Please...it’s childish.”
“It’s really not,”  you deny. “I wish I was good at music. Was there a specific genre you liked to sing?”
Changkyun tries to sneak his hand into your fry tray but you give him a narrowed look before grinning and handing him a handful. Kihyun smiles as he watches the two of you and gives a small shake of the head. “I liked anything really, as long as I was singing.”
“I’m sure you’re really good.”
Next to you Changkyun nods in agreement. “Daddy’s really good at singing!”
Kihyun reaches forward to give Changkyun’s nose a soft pinch. “Hush, you.”
You laugh. You want to say that you’d love to hear him sometime, but you don’t think you’ve known him long enough to say anything. Instead when you catch his eye again, you only give a soft smile before turning to interact with Changkyun again. Even though, you’re not looking at him, you can feel Kihyun’s eyes lingering on you.
The next time you see Kihyun is on your birthday. It was a sweet day, your students singing you happy birthday and then promising to be on their best behaviour for the day. Before they all left, the kids handed over a card they’d all made and signed.
After school, a few of your teacher friends surprised you with cupcakes and you chatted with them for a little while before packing up your things and heading home. You had no paperwork to grade tonight, having it gotten it all finished the night before. All you had planned tonight was staying in with your favorite tv shows and a glass of wine or two.
With your bag hoisted over your shoulder and the rest of the cupcakes in your other hand, you locked up your classroom and started towards the parking lot. On your way to your car, you see a familiar child running around with a dinosaur toy in his hands. He’s flying the dinosaur in the air and making different roars. A few steps behind him, Kihyun watches in amusement as he hold his phone between his ear and shoulder, his hands digging around his suit jacket for keys.
Changkyun suddenly spins in a circle but in his twirl he catches sight of you and his face lights up. “Teacher Y/N!”
He’s immediately running towards you in excitement. Kihyun, not having heard him call your name, starts to yell after his son, but stops when he sees you. He sends a wave and a smile your way before returning to his call. As Changkyun reaches you, you return Kihyun’s gesture and then use your free hand to steady the excited child as he almost barrels into you.
“Look!” Changkyun says with a toothy grin. “I got a new dinosaur!”
Your face turns into one of wonder. “Wow! That’s so cool, what kind is this one?”
“I don’t know yet,” Changkyun giggles. “Daddy, surprised me with it today, and it’s one I’ve never had before. I need to look at my dinosaur book.”
“You’ll have to tell me when you figure it out, yeah?”
Changkyun eagerly nods and then catches sight of the cupcakes in your arms. “What are those for?”
“Hmm? Oh, these are for my birthday.”
“It’s your birthday?” His eyes fill with wonder as you nod. “Since it’s your birthday, I’ll let you hold my new dinosaur.”
He hands you the toy and you grin. “That’s very nice. In return, I’ll give you a cupcake.” Changkyun’s face lights up and he hops in excitement. You laugh at his reaction and then kneel down to balance the cupcake platter and the dinosaur in your lap. You pull the tin foil off the top of the plate and show Changkyun the cupcakes. “I have chocolate and vanilla.”
“Chocolate!!”
You smile and pick one up off the plate. He holds his hands out patiently for it and you hand it over to him. Before you can say anything, he’s running back to his father. At Kihyun’s feet, he jumps and points to the cupcake as if to ask if it’s okay to eat it. Kihyun peers down and gives a quick nod before saying something into the phone. Changkyun runs back to you as you’re covering the cupcakes once more and standing up.
“Your new dinosaur is super cool,” you say pretending to walk it through the air.
He laughs at you and then holds the cupcake up. “Can I really have it?”
“Of course,” you reply. “Your dad said it was okay, right?”
Changkyun nods and at your encouragement takes a bite of it. He does a little happy dance as he chews on the dessert. As he eats his treat you hold his dinosaur for him and begin to walk him back to his father. He seems to be ending his phone call so you figure it’s a good time.
As you come up to him, he hangs up and then takes in Changkyun’s frosting covered face with exasperation. “Kid has such a sugar tooth.”
“Sorry,” you wince. “He said you said it was okay.”
Kihyun waves away your worries. “It’s fine. What’s one cupcake going to do? It’s a secret from Mom, though okay Kyunnie?” Changkyun only nods, too focused on his treat. Kihyun chuckles and then turns to you. “Special occasion?”
“It’s my birthday,” you explain.
“Happy Birthday!” Kihyun grins. “If I had known I would’ve gotten you something.”
You laugh a little. “I don’t know if you could beat Changkyun letting me hold his dinosaur.”
“You’re right,” he turns thoughtful. “That’s a tough one.”
You grin and pat Changkyun’s head. “Well I should let you two go. Don’t wanna keep you held up. I’ll see you two around.”
You hand the dinosaur to Kihyun, as Changkyun’s still busy with the cupcake. Kihyun nods and says goodbye as you walk off towards your car. You’ve just set the cupcake platter on the top of your car to dig your keys from your bag when you hear your name called.
Turning around you see Kihyun jogging up to you with a grin. You give him a curious look as he comes to a stop in front of you. He looks a little nervous as his hands tug on his sleeves. For a moment he studies your face while biting on his lip. Finally, he exhales and leans forward. One of his hands gently holds your elbow as he presses a soft kiss to your cheek.
When he pulls away, you blink at him completely speechless. His expression turns a little smug at your lack of words, but it doesn’t last long before he starts to look nervous.
He lets go of your arm and you find yourself reaching forward to grab one of his hands. He looks down at your grip on him before looking back at you.
“Th-that was, uh, better than the d-dinosaur,” you trip over your words in a rush. You begin to turn around but stop and look back at him, cheeks burning. “Don’t tell Changkyun I said that.”
Before Kihyun can say anything you find your keys, and climb into the car with your cupcakes. Through the closed door you hear Kihyun laugh wholeheartedly.
The next day, as you’re readying the classroom for the lessons of the day, there’s a knock on your door. You look over your shoulder from where you’re writing on the whiteboard and are surprised to see Kihyun in the entryway.
He gives you an apologetic look as you motion for him to come in. You cap the marker you’re using and turn to face him fully. “Good morning.”
“I’m sorry to bother you. But I’m not picking up Changkyun tonight so I came now.”
“It’s no bother,” you smile. “What’s up?”
“I just wanted to know if you’d be interested in going out with me this weekend?”
You almost drop the marker in your hand from the unexpected question. “Oh...um..”
Your thoughts are racing a mile a minute as you try to process that face that Kihyun’s actually just asked you on a date.
“Oh God, you’re not interested, are you?” Kihyun asked when you don’t say anything. He looks apologetic as he takes a step back from you. “I’m sorry, I probably made you feel awkward.”
You blink away the shocked haze in your thoughts and shake your head. “No, no! That’s not it. I was just surprised, is all. I’d love a date with you.”
His eyes widen, “Seriously?”
“I wouldn’t have said yes if I wasn’t interested,” you smirk.
“Right...right! Okay...it’s a date then.” Kihyun rocks back on his heels and then lights up again as if the words finally hit him. Afterwards, you exchange contact info and he leaves with a promise to message you later today.
For the date, the two of you decide to go to a restaurant, it was nice but still on the casual side. The beginning of the dinner felt almost formal, the two of you a little awkward and stiff as you get past the getting to know you questions. Briefly he touches on his ex-wife, and how she’s now dating again, and to give her more free time Kihyun is stepping up to take more fatherly duties. There’s a small lull in conversation after that and knowing how much he adores his son you decide to ask about Changkyun.
Just as you hoped, his face lights up and his posture relaxes tenfold. You smile as you listen to him tell you things about his son; especially how Changkyun loves dinosaurs and science. He also reveals that Changkyun is already starting to show an interest in music, constantly asking him to put in CDs while they drive in the car and singing along to them.
Kihyun sighs as he takes a sip of his wine. “I guess as a parent I should want him to pursue the sciences, lead himself to a more stable career. But seeing his face light up listening to music, I almost want him to go that route more.”
“There’s nothing wrong with both,” you point out. “Archaeologist by day, musician by night.”
Kihyun chuckles at that. “His mother would just love that.” By his sarcastic tone you’re highly aware it would be the opposite.
“Does she not like music?” You ask carefully, not wanting to pry too much.
He shrugs. “It’s not that she doesn’t like it. It’s more she’s realistic and doesn’t want to waste her time on childish dreams.”
You hum as you think about that. “I guess I can understand that. But there’s no harm in at least trying, right? Especially if you’re passionate about it and it makes you happy.”
“What about you, did you have any other dreams you wanted to go after?”
“Well, I wanted to be a veterinarian and then realized I would probably cry over every animal that came in. There was a time I entertained the idea of actress but I took one step onto the stage in my high school play and froze up so bad I did a better job than the boy playing the role of Tree #1.”
Kihyun laughs at that and you find yourself giving into the contagious sound to laugh along.
“I can see why Changkyun adores you.”
You choke a little on a lingering laugh. “What do you mean?”
Kihyun’s eyes are tender as they look at you, “You’re really nice, you’re funny. Not to mention you’re very beautiful.”
Your cheeks heat up and you let out a small laugh. “Please.”
Kihyun only carries on. “You know, Changkyun is so shy around strangers that I was so shocked when I came in that one day to find him sleeping in your arms. He’ll barely do that with me. And honestly, all it really took was that first look at you when I walked into the room to know you were a good person. You have some of the softest and kindest eyes I’ve ever seen.”
By the end of his spiel you’re face is as red as the pasta sauce in front of you. You try to hide your embarrassment by sipping your wine, but the warmth of the alcohol just makes your cheeks warmer.
Kihyun grins at you softly. “I’ll stop there, I don’t wanna embarrass you. I just needed you to know that.”
After the dinner, you walk beside Kihyun as the two of you idly make your way through the shopping district. Fairy lights are strung up through the trees giving the evening a romantic glow. There’s a comfortable silence between the two of you, but it’s broken when you spot a blinking sign.
Turning to Kihyun you bite your lip and point to the place. “Can we?”
He follows your pointing finger and gives a small, startled laugh. “Karaoke? Really?”
“Yes, really!” You exclaim. “Ever since you told me you liked to sing I’ve wanted to hear it.”
“For all you know, I sing like a troll.”
It must be the added confidence boost from the wine because you say, “A very handsome troll.” When Kihyun only laughs at your response you sigh. “Fine, I’ll go first, so you can hear what a truly bad singer sounds like and then you can sing.”
Kihyun looks between you and the karaoke place before finally exhaling in exasperation. He takes one of your hands and begins to lead you towards the place. “Darling, I’m sure you sound like an angel.”
After the room is rented, you and Kihyun get comfortable and then you pick up the song selector. You choose a pop song from your childhood that you’ve always liked. When you hit the high notes, your voice almost doesn’t make it which causes Kihyun to laugh a little and you to give him a warning glare.
When your song is finished, you plop down next to him and give an expectant and excited look.
“You really want to hear me sing, don’t you?”
You nod but he still doesn’t make a move to choose a song. Your face turns into a small pout and Kihyun smirks. Reaching forward he gently holds your chin with his thumb and forefinger. “Now how can I turn down that pout?”
You blush and he chuckles under his breath before grabbing the song selector. He chooses a ballad and as the smooth melodies of the song fill the room, he stands up and holds the microphone to his mouth.
As soon as he starts singing, you feel your face light up with wonder. His voice is so calming and full. Chills roll down your back and goosebumps litter your arms as he holds the notes and puts so much emotion into the song. His eyes are shut in concentration and every now and then his brow furrows. Kihyun puts his whole body into the song and you can’t help but just watch in shock.
When he’s finished, Kihyun sets the microphone down and then looks at you. You watch, confused, as he rushes over to you. “Oh God, was it really that bad?”
His thumbs softly brush at your cheeks and you realize you’ve started crying. “What? Oh my God, no, it wasn’t bad at all. Oh God, this is embarrassing.” You turn away and dry your cheeks. “You were so good, Kihyun.”
You turn back to him and give him a look of faux anger. “What the hell? This is supposed to be karaoke, not Korea’s Got Talent.” You swat his arm lightly and he laughs at your outburst, but you can see hints of blush on his cheeks.
“I wasn’t that good.”
“‘Wasn’t that good’? Kihyun, you’re absolutely amazing. I’m almost actually mad you’re not a singer.”
He laughs again but he’s hands are lifted slightly as if he wants to help you but doesn’t know how to. “Are you sure you’re okay? I can’t believe I made you cry on our first date.”
You wave his worries away. “It’s a good cry, trust me. You’d know if it were a bad cry.”
Taking a deep breath, you give Kihyun the best smile you can manage to prove you’re fine and he grins in return, his hands finally dropping to his lap. However, one lifts again to tuck away a stray strand of hair that’s clinging to your cheek. He trails his fingers across your cheek as he brushes the hair behind your ear. As his eyes trace your features, his lips quirk ever so slightly and you find yourself trying not to look at his lips. The look of subtle smugness on his face has your heart speeding up and excitement filling your chest.
He catches you trying to hide it however and leans forward to press his mouth against your own. One of your hands comes up to cup his cheek, and the hand he’d had behind your ear moves to lightly grip the nape of your neck. Kihyun’s lips are as soft and plush as they look, moving against your own in a slow rhythm.
When his other hand settles on your hip you shiver at the feeling of his fingers through the cloth of your dress. Kihyun breaks the kiss, but doesn’t go far as he traces his lips across your cheeks and down to your jaw line. “You taste salty.”
You let out an airy laugh through your nose as your hold on his cheek drops to his neck and then trails down his chest. Gripping one of the lapels of his jacket you pull him closer to you. He laughs under his breath at your action but doesn’t reject it. Instead his hand moves from your hip to your lower back and he splays his fingers against you.
A soft wine leaves your lips when he sucks lightly at a spot under your jaw. The noise makes him pull you even closer, your chest arching into him.
Holding you carefully, Kihyun lowers you to your back on the couch you’re sitting on and hovers over you.
There’s a sudden tightness in your chest, but you ignore it as Kihyun pulls away and starts to move down your body. He doesn’t get very far though before you let out a sudden hiccup. His face leans into your stomach and you can feel him laughing against you. Your hands reach up to cover your mouth as another hiccup racks your body.
“I hiccup after I cry,” you explain. The words only make Kihyun laugh harder. Slowly he pulls away, eyes crinkled as he pulls you back up into a sitting position.
“Stay here.”
He stands and exits the room, returning a few moments later with a water bottle. He unscrews the cap for you and watches you with fondness as you take a sip. He reaches out and again pushes away the stray strands of hair. The smile on his lips is full of amusement as you continue to hiccup a few more times.
Once you’ve righted your breathing, he laughs and stands. When he takes one of your hands, he leans down and kisses your cheek. “I’ll take you home now.”
He keeps his grip on your hand as he leads you out of the karaoke place and into the streets. The warmth in your chest grows tenfold when he grins at you as he helps you into his car. The whole drive to your place, he keeps a hand settled on your thigh.
Kihyun awkwardly stands in your living room as you shrug off your jacket and toss it haphazardly onto your couch. He looks around the simple living room with a curious eye. Trying not to chide yourself for forgetting to pick up your student’s papers off the coffee table you make your way into the kitchen. There’s an island counter that separates the living room and the kitchen but keeps the space open.
“Would you like anything to drink? I have water, tea, and...oh that’s it,” you say looking into your fridge and only finding the water pitcher.
“Water is fine,” Kihyun says, joining you in the kitchen. He leans against the counter and watches as you pour two glasses of water. He takes the glass with a murmured thank you and then takes a sip.
From over the top of his glass, Kihyun watches you with intense eyes. The almost hungry look in his gaze has your stomach fluttering and your chest tightening in need. You thought the hiccups from early had killed the mood entirely, so you’re surprised to see that Kihyun still seems interested.
He sets down his glass and you catch his fingers twitch in a need to touch. Setting your own glass down, you take a step toward him and he silently scans your body as you move closer. When you’re standing in front of him, you find that just his being is enough to make you feel overwhelmed. You reach for his hand and he readily gives it to you.
Lifting his hand to your face, you lean into it so it can cup your cheek, his slightly calloused palm feels strong against your skin. Holding your gaze, Kihyun moves his hand to the back of your head, the feeling of his fingers carding through your hair causes shivers to run down your back. He smirks at your reaction and leads you closer to him so that one of his thighs rests between your legs. The feeling of his pants rubbing against your panties sends a jolt through you at the sudden contact.
Kihyun hums lightly, as he drops his neck down to your shoulder and presses a kiss there. Your arms come up under his to rest on his back. As he moves to breathe into the crook of your neck, you gently play with the hairs at the nape of his neck. His hands grip at the hem of your dress and ruck it up to lay his hands on your bare thighs.
Needing a better position, the two of your begin to make your way towards your bedroom. As you move through the apartment, both yours and Kihyun’s hands grow impatient, pulling on clothes and gripping at skin until there’s almost nothing between the two of you.
As he lays you on the bed, he’s tender and staring down at you with hooded eyes. The expression on your face making your body flush. When you’ve been completely undressed and it’s just skin on skin you feel relief zip through you.
His hips move against and with yours to create a tight friction between the two of you. Kihyun uses his tongue to trace your collarbones as you release breathy moans into the air.
After a couple more ruts against your hips, Kihyun’s found the place that has you seeing colors behind your lids and uttering swears against his lips.
When you’ve both hit your highs, he presses soft kisses to your cheeks, nose, and forehead before he pulls away and tugs you into his chest. The two of you let slumber overcome you.
When you wake up it’s to a reassuring arm thrown across your body and a warm chest pressed to your back. Kihyun’s breath fans against your ear and makes you squirm lightly. At your movements, he groans tiredly and pulls you tighter to him. “Don’t get up yet.”
You laugh softly and turn under his arm to face him. His face scrunches at your motions before falling slack once more. You squeeze up an arm between your bodies and trace your fingers over his lips and cupid’s bow. Moving to his nose, you trace up the nose bridge to the corner of his eye and then gently rustle his eyelashes.
Kihyun pulls away at the act and pries an eye open to give you a tired glare. “Go back to sleep.”
“I’m hungry,” you murmur.
“I’ll make you the best breakfast you’ve ever had, if you just wait ten more minutes.”
You grin against his shoulder and nod. As the two of you lay there, Kihyun trails his fingers up and down your back and you let the muscles relax. Sleep is about to take you again but a tired laugh escapes Kihyun’s lips.
“I can’t believe you actually cried when I sang.”
You release an embarrassed whine and burrow deeper into his shoulder. “Don’t remind me.”
“Mmm, so cute.” Kihyun exhales. “I was partially right about one thing, though.”
“What’s that?”
“You do sound like an angel...just not when you sing.”
When he laughs, you smack his back causing him to move even closer to you. He continues to softly chuckle and you roll your eyes at his behavior.
All of a sudden, Kihyun is sitting up and stretching out his arms. “Well we’ve got a new day to look forward to. I saw those papers you needed to still grade, and I promised you a breakfast.”
You blink at the sudden change in attitude. When you don’t move, Kihyun grins down at you and gives you butt a soft slap. “Come on Teacher Y/N, we can’t let the day waste away.”
Suddenly Kihyun’s face lights up with a conspiratorial smirk, “Should I call you teacher next time? I can be the student.”
“No, no, no,” you’re quick to shoot down the idea.
Kihyun pouts but then grins. “Okay, but how many teachers do you think have done it in the teacher’s lounge?”
“Kihyun!” You scold with a laugh of disbelief. He gives you an expectant look, still waiting for an answer. You roll your eyes before rolling onto your back and rubbing your face with your hands. “I don’t know, and I don’t want to know. And before you ask, we’re not doing it in the teacher’s lounge.”
“Well damn.”
“Would you just go make breakfast?” You laugh again and swat at his arm. Kihyun smiles and crawls over your body. As he does so, he presses a chaste kiss to your lips. You smile against his mouth with your eyes shut, reaching to ruffle his bed head.
When he’s off the bed, you sit up and look around for a shirt to pull on. Before you can find one, Kihyun pokes his head back into the bedroom. “But let me know if you change your mind about the roleplay, ‘cause I’m actually interested in that.”
“Shut up!” You laugh out and grab a pillow to chuck it at his head. He runs off, trailing a laugh behind him.
