So strange to be seeing a sentiment that people past 30 are old in modern society, and then be reading historical records or books written before the 1900s where 30 year olds are consistently called young

my notifs recently got me thinking about the very random concept of "what if there is a second, secret CHB. directly below normal CHB." and i ended up brainstorming it in the discord.
context for how this originated: one was just a random notif on my post talking about the tunnels under the Hephaestus cabin, and the other was some tags from @drksanctuary on my fake readriordan article mentioning the idea of a chthonic demigod camp.
so. my brilliant (read: "smashing my 2 brain cells together") idea: the elaborate and seemingly infinite tunnels under cabin 9 are remnants of an abandoned underground CHB that exists directly underneath camp. It's basically just normal CHB except in a big cave system, probably connected to the labyrinth somewhere and has the separate tunnels, and instead of the Olympian cabins it has chthonic cabins. there's probably also some infernal nymphs and etc down there too. since all chthonic demigods can learn to shadow-travel they probably used that to get down there, and a lot of chthonic demigods probably have geokinesis just by nature, ergo the tunnels (for when they don't want to shadow-travel, or can't).
in brainstorming with the discord we decided it could be cool if some of the cabins lined up with the above-ground cabins, either for thematic purposes or associations or whatever. Like there's maybe a Hermes and maybe Poseidon cabin in the chthonic CHB too that just link to the above-ground ones, but also like Persephone cabin lines up to Demeter cabin because of course it does. and maybe Hecate cabin lines up to Cabin 8 cause Artemis is sometimes 1/3rd of Hecate. Maybe Angelos cabin is beneath Cabin 1, and Zagreus cabin is beneath Cabin 12. Things like that.
The other ones i thought of were either Hypnos or Thanatos cabin lines up with Apollo, because twins, and the other is just right beside it (because twins). And Charon's cabin is beneath Cabin 9, ergo why the tunnel system connects to it (because Charon. Ferryman. Surface access. It makes sense in my brain).
#pjo#riordanverse#headcanon#headcanons#au#< go figure which you wanna classify it as#this is entirely silly musing but it actually kind of works out nicely cause there's far fewer chthonic deities#than there are technical-olympians#so honestly you could get away with having the secondary chb only having a few extra cabins compared to the 12 usual cabins#it definitely wouldnt be any more than the 20 cabins it has by TOA#also for silly thematic reasons i do think itd be funny if despite everything cabin 13 is still inexplicably cabin 13 in underground chb#like. it shouldn't be. that doesnt make sense. but it is. what's the numbering system for the other cabins? who knows#negative numbers would be interesting. cause theyre underground#i do already have the hc of there being a secret extra cabin aboveground in chb nicknamed ''Cabin 0/Zero''#that's a little ways into the woods and kinda run-down cause it goes unused and basically why it exists is because#the ''12 olympians'' is actually inconsistent throughout ancient greece so there's a non-zero chance they could have a demigod show up#whose parent *is* technically one of the 12 olympians but they dont have a cabin for them - like Enodia. ergo: spare cabin#anyways all this musing is intentionally very silly#i just think itd be funny for chb to find out there is a second. more goth chb that is otherwise identical#literally directly below them. for no reason.#''why'd they made a second chb directly below the first one?'' ''idk underworld/chthonic reference i guess''

Random piece of information I need to research because it is too chaotic for me: the reason why people have the 'possessive female name' last name is because during invasions, women would get r*ped and their husbands would not recognise the children as their own, so the children received the "belonging to their mother" last name...

so like to put kids down for nap I have one kid I read poems to and another kid I make up stories for. And lately the boy I read poems to has started like saying the lines along with me and the girl I make up stories for has started finishing my sentences (every story begins the same way and she knows it!!). And it’s like I tell my coworkers or people this and I’m super excited because not only are the kids being smart but it’s also like showing that I’m making an impact you know?

What do you struggle with the most when it comes to making an OC?
(Mine is giving them a name. Like..... I would create a cool looking character with some personality but then, I don't know what to name them. I'm even struggling with that as we speak.)
design, absolutely design. a lot of the time i have a name / personality / role / backstory for them Before knowing what they look like. coming up with a physical look to go with the character is a bitch & a half lol
#name is tough tho! i feel your struggles!#if i may offer some advice - coming from someone who has crafted literally hundreds of brain guys#ask yourself what their vibe is#like... do you think their name is short? do they seem like someone with a long name? an abbreviated name like A.J?#maybe they look like someone whose name starts with 'h'#look up h names and go from there#or another method is a bit tougher but hey it kinda works#clear your mind and look at the character#the first name that pops into your head is often the best choice#or yk... just sit there thinkin about them! maybe they're like. idk a bird#bird > birdie > birdly > billie#billie the bird!#ALSO LOOK UP BABY NAMES#there are sooooo many lists#you can look up lists with specific amount of letters. starting with [insert letter of your choice]. names with nicknames.#male. female. unisex. myth-based. animal based. plant based.#THERE'S A LIST OF NAMES FOR EVERYTHING I PROMISE#rambles from the bog#for example w/ my puppet sundown summer#i chose her name bc her color palette reminds me of a sunset & she has western inspiration & she's from a kid's show#so her name would be alliterative & sound cowboy-ish. sundown is more western than sunset#and then throw on the summer for the alliteration & friendly feel - kids automatically have positive associations with summer#see what i mean?#or take my murder man Aces - he's named after the diamond patterns on his body#(i associate the word ace with the ace of diamonds playing card)#or uhhhh i have a talking cat character named bartholomew#named so because i think it would be funny for this little talking cat to have a long & 'haughty' name that's also a cat pun. 'mew'#see there's no one way to go about it!!!#there's lots of methods and none of them are wrong!!#good luck and have fun my guy!

NOTES:
During the 12th century, the tradition of Finnish given names was lost due to the Christianization of Finland under Sweden's rule. By the 16th century only Christian names were accepted, which is why Finnish forms of Christian names are still widely popular in Finland despite the society being fairly secular. The tradition of native Finnish given names wasn’t revived until the 19th century.
Most Finnish surnames end in suffixes -nen or -la/-lä. The collective suffix -nen, which is more common in Eastern Finnish surnames, indicates belonging to a certain family or clan. The suffix -la/-lä, which is more common in Western Finnish surnames, creates oikonyms from the names of places, farms or small villages.
Karelian can be used to refer to a geographical place, language, dialect or people. It is important to note that Karelian is its own language separate from Finnish. However, the Finnish language also has a Karelian dialect that is spoken in the Finnish Karelia. Finnish surnames originating from Karelia have likely been influenced by both Karelian and Finnish.
The IPA forms follow Finnish phonology even with foreign (Swedish, Russian etc.) names in approximation to how an average Finn pronounces them.
The source for most of the given names is Behind The Name. The topographic surnames are direct translations. The explanations for the rest of the surnames are either from Wiktionary or based on speculation by Finnish genealogy enthusiasts, hence the overuse of the word "possibly".
Feedback is welcome. If you have additions or notice any mistakes, please let me know!

two more character pages for my current d&d party!! if you follow my personal blog you've probably seen me posting about glory, lol. i may have accidentally turned myself into a robotfucker by making it too hot, lmao, but im not mad
glory is part of a church-sponsored program that builds warforged as, like, angels basically. glory is designed & built by raz, my other character from this campaign. it is, uh, theoretically also my character, but for the first few games the DM was playing it, for lore reasons.
sseja is a kobold ninja who is like, weirdly flirtatious. she's also become the party's de facto loot holder, because her player is the only one of us who actually likes keeping track of gold, lol. also, glory has developed a soft spot for her after she was riding on its shoulders for like an entire game's worth of combat, hence why i've drawn them together XD

I’m still team Diane “Bertie” Marbery. *sips ghettosa*
Tumblr media
For example, I go by my middle name. I’ve never been called my first name EVER in life. People don’t know my first name (unless they went to elementary school or something and saw it on roll randomly or whatever)… Hell, even my family (aunts/uncs/cousins) don’t know my first name. 😂 They just know me by either my middle name or nickname.
So it still stands…Diane & Bertie gotta be the same woman! Hell, Eva still may know her as Bertie but when he asked what is your moms name, she gave him her government as any of us would. If someone is asking me what my parents names are, I’m saying their governments too. Like if my professor asked me what my mamas name is I’m not about to be like it’s “Cookie,” Imma be like Carol. Carol Baskins... Ya feel me?
😂 Pleeeaassseeee don’t ask me why that popped in my head. It’s after 5pm and my mind be on something else. It was a rough day. 😩
BUT BUT BUT!!! I think once Eva realized that Jayce was coming from a wholesome place after his explanation
Tumblr media
I think she was intrigued and was trying to help solve whatever mystery she thought she may have been involved in. She was very clear about her mom's last name not being Carruthers, but doesn't mention a nickname that might be more familiar?
We didn't see how this conversation really ended so hennything is possible at this point in the game!

Other Information~
The "Yuu" for Heartslabyul's chapter.
Yusra is the first "Yuu" to be teleported in TWST, which panics her brother Prem back at home (more on him later). She adapts quickly though, and Deuce reminds her of her brother, so she befriended him right away. She's also friends with Ace and Grim, although she really doesn't know why she decided to keep those two headache inducers around. Oh right, those three are a package deal.
Yusra's family is Bengali, but immigrated to Brisbane, Australia; that's right, Bengali-Australian MC. She had to deal with large spiders and the occasional snake; what's magic to that? She is self-assured in her abilities, but she also does keep an eye out for her friends. Somewhat blunt with her words, but her emotions can be easily read.
The mirror would have sorted her into Octavinelle if she had magic, as she is at her core, generous. Not a generous winner though, especially during strategy games; likes to be smug when she beats Azul. Terrible when it comes to luck-based games, but oh well, as long as she doesn't come in last place. (Frenemies with Azul, polite with Idia for the most part)
She tends to get out extra stress - be it due to being in a different dimension, her new friends, or everything in between - by cooking family recipes. And she befriended Trey when she was cooking one night, and enjoys spending time with him when she's not busy. He's calm, and she likes that... even if his puns are terrible. But bad puns is better than putting out another fire.
She likes lighter fabrics, as they allow for more movement. She HATES itchy fabrics as it irritates her skin. She ADORES pastel colours, and she only has pastel clothes in her closet back at home; not a fan of the NRC uniform but she makes do with pastel hijabs. She tends to decorate her hijab with pins; usually a pink heart or the blue pearl pin gifted to her by Prem. She also wears bright bands in her braces.
She loves cats, and likes to stay behind whenever she has time in Professor Trein's class, petting Lucius and learning more about Twisted Wonderland. Lucius reminds her of her one cat back at home, Berlioz. Whereas Grim reminds her of Toulouse, her no-brain-cell-having orange cat. She finds Headmage Crowley... incompetent.
Bonus fits!

technoblade never dies
theres just something about the phrase "technoblade never dies" thats really cool. it originated as a catchphrase, a meme from a guy about that very guy who plays minecraft and just so happens to be really good at pvp in it. it was a fun saying about a man-pig who's good at fighting, good at surviving, and farming, and making empires and roleplaying and whatever else in the funni block game--
and its so cool how this slogan, "technoblade never dies," has become a mantra meaning that he will never disappear from our memories. his legacy will last. these days, whenever we post technoblade content, especially if its solo, we tag it with that catchphrase to symbolize that the memory of him will 'never die'

@septembersung Now there's an irresistible premise!
Jules and Vern
"The worst thing about time travel is that it's so dreadfully dull." Juliette leaned back against the railing and fanned herself beneath her enormous broad-brimmed hat.
Vernon felt even shabbier and out-of-place standing here by the most expensively-dressed woman amid the expensively-dressed crowd on the deck of the time cruiser, but a statement like that made him forget his self-consciousness. "How can you say that? All of history within your reach!"
This cruise was the trip of a lifetime for him, the result of years of penny-pinching; now that he'd been among this crowd--to whom a time-travel fare was pocket change--he could see how they'd view it as commonplace, but never boring.
Juliette gestured expansively toward the fogs of history that surrounded the ship. "You meet no one but other time travelers, who talk about nothing except the time they glimpsed Alexander the Great from across a battlefield, or passed beneath Beethoven's window while he was banging on a piano, or the time they swear that they actually held a conversation with a medieval peasant, the physical limitations of time travel be hanged."
Vernon leaned forward eagerly, wishing he'd thought to bring a notebook. "Has that actually happened? Speaking to natives? The implications to our understanding of time travel--"
"Of course it hasn't happened, you darling little fool. You're going to be an easy mark if you know so little about time travel."
Vernon reddened. He knew quite a lot about time travel, actually, but this wasn't the time to start listing his papers and awards. Every child knew the first rule of time travel--the streams may run parallel but never cross--but every scientist knew the key to discovery was an open mind. "You can't discount stories just because they go against current scientific understanding. You never know when one could be true."
"None of it's true--that's the entire point. We spend ghastly amounts of money to get on these ships, and then spend the entire time making up lies to prove it was worth it. We wander about historical scenes without having the slightest impact on them. Walk through crowds of people who can't perceive us. We are well-dressed ghosts walking among ruins, never truly living."
It was rather sad when she put it that way, and Vernon felt the strangest urge to comfort a woman who probably spent more in a day than he could earn in the average year.
"I plan to live," Vernon said, even though it sounded horribly too-earnest. "I've got one trip and I plan to make the most of it."
Juliette peered at him above her oversized sunglasses. "You know, I believe you," she said. "And I think that's an excellent reason to make sure I keep you nearby."
