Daes dae'Mar theory: What has been proved so far ?
So, in this post, i'll just add the proof I found that confirms or consolidate some parts of the theory. It won't be as long as the theory itself of course, so no need to worry about as there isn't much to explain just proof to provide.
SPECIFIC LORE SPOILER ABOUT THE WT AND MINOR BOOK SPOILER (we kind of know this already but some might have not picked up on it when Min foresaw it in S1)
Part 1 : Proving the content of Liuan off-screen talk and plan
I claimed that the person who helped Lan with Moiraine's powers was Siuan all along and not Verin like many seems to think is the most logical and probable explanation.
Well, it's true that Verin being trusted enough to know the truth about Moiraine being stilled that them staying with them for the last 6 months makes it hard to imagine anything else.
But,we were wrong, we got fooled by the writers. As we weren't supposed to realise that there were multiple plans unfolding DURING Daes dae'Mar but only after. A lot of us did not even know what to expect or suspect with the title. I for one did not question the ep until after I went on twitter and learned that the title suggested it.
We've been shown this already thanks to episode 8. They did not want us to see the betrayal coming nor did they want us to know that Bayle Domon knew Lanfear as Selene; Knowing this, It is safe to assume that everything that seems to be the obvious answer when it comes to these plans are debatable. They did hinted at the truth throughout the season though, we just did not pick up on them.
Simple instance of this, that must now seem to stick out like a sore thumb to everyone is that in E01, when Bayle Domon comes and talk to Mo :
When did this come into your possession? [DOMON] Couple of months back. [MOIRAINE] Where? [DOMON] Outside Cairhien. The old moon dial there shattered one night this spring. I know you have men following me. I want them gone, too. I don't take kindly to unwanted company. [MOIRAINE] Your enemies are your own. It seems there's something written on this. [DOMON] Aye. The whole dial was covered in a poem when they found it. Written in blood. Old Tongue. I have a copy, actually. […] Ah, serves me right, I suppose. [MOIRAINE] These men you say are following you, what do they look like? [DOMON] Only caught a glimpse from a distance, once, when we, uh, left the dock at Whitebridge. Two men in black cloaks on horseback. [MOIRAINE ] Did you see their faces? [DOMON] No. Their hoods covered them.
Moiraine's reaction after towards Bayle Domon was an indication, there's a mention of Cairhien which we know is where Rand is, most only realised that something was off with Selene or though that she would be Lanfear (for book readers) but how many made the connections thought that the fades, Bayle Domon going to Moiraine with crucial pieces of information followed by them but never attacked and them only attacking Moiraine once he's left and given her the poem was part of some plan before episode 8 ?
Now that this is established, let's provide the proof.
Remember when I asked that you take a mental or physical note of Lan mentioning the Tower Records ?
Well, this is the show telling us implicitly that he has been working with Siuan, and misleading us into thinking that surely what would explains his knowledge on these matters when he info dumps to Moiraine about the Forsaken was that he worked with Verin, a brown sister with whom he was living with for the last 6 months or so.
It is also a really good way of diverting our attention from the incoherence this assumption would cause, like the simple fact that Lan never learned that Verin knew about the Dragon Reborn before he got separated from Moiraine and that Verin couldn't have known about his and Siuan's plans that most of us thought was about Rand, the Dragon Reborn and not about Moiraine. How would she know (if she was in on it) about something unexpected even for Lan and plan an escape for it in advance?
This lead us to assume that after Lan told Siuan about Mo's stiling she decided to go to Cairhien mostly because of Rand, to meet him and then decided ALONE to finally start following the tower rules after meeting him. No matter that they had showed before that Moiraine and Siuan's dynamic regarding their mission did not rely on having a leader even though dominance naturally oozes out of her and in spite of her position in the Tower as Amyrlin seat.
Even book readers fell for it, outraged and worried that the show was turning Siuan into Elaida. ( still not a book reader, just I obviously constantly spoil myself anything related to Liuane ( Mo, Lan, Siuan) ) but it's normal, even for book readers.
As this little piece of information is a specific Aes Sedai/ White Tower part of the lore of The Wheel Of Time.
To instantly pick up on this you'd have to have memorised it or been obsessed with the Aes sedai's when you read the books and even then, you'd have to be looking for it to catch it. So, obviously, I went looking for it.
After digging into WoT WT laws, customs and systems. I can now assure that the show itself (apart from the writer saying that they planned "a sort of intervention" for Mo in the bonus) already confirmed my theory about Liuan having a plan for Moiraine.
Mo'an in the Sun Palace
[LAN] I have a question for you. And I hope someday you'll forgive me for asking it. ( a single question huh ?) After you were stilled by Ishamael, has there been a time… in all these months when you thought about ending it? [MOIRAINE] Killing myself?
According to what I've found, the WT library has a categorisation system in place that hierarchies information. Starting from "not sealed" all the way up to "Sealed to the flame".
When something is “Sealed to the Flame,” it means that by law, it can only be read by the Amyrlin Seat. “Sealed to the Hall” means that it can only be known to Sitters and “Sealed to the Ring” that it can only be known by Aes Sedai. If something is not sealed, it is open for even the newest novice to know (ACoS, Ch. 12).
Lan, thanks to his time spent with Verin only knew that being stilled was like the most brutal form of violation one could endure and that most women died because of it. So, rather vague and general knowledge. Yet, he later tells Moiraine:
[LAN] I read the Tower records. There have only been two women in history who were cut off who didn't. Most did it within the year.
It begs the question : Which level could Tower Records be at? Thanks to my research I learned that :
By Tower law, the official histories of the White Tower are unavailable to all but Aes Sedai (TWoRJTWoT, Ch. 9).
So, I digged a little more as it was too vague to prove anything and looked for something more specific, as I remembered that stilling was apparently something taboo in the Tower ( I read it somewhere on twitter and remembered) I directed my research toward a minimum level of "Sealed to the Hall", as Lan knew specific things about the age of legend and Forsaken but also most importantly he said himself (again a clue we missed):
[LAN] There's a story from the Age of Legends about the Foresaken's powers… a skill that's been lost for thousands of years… to tie off weaves and leave them in place.
I thought there's no way this kind of knowledge is available to any Aes Sedai and so it had to be a minimum of "Sealed to The Hall" to "Sealed to The Flame" and here's what i found :
(About the Keeper of the Chronicles) She has access to the Thirteenth Depository (CoT, Glossary). Included within the Thirteenth Depository are the lists of those who have been stilled and executed (ACoS, Prologue). The Thirteenth Depository, containing secret records of the history of the White Tower, is hidden by law. Even the fact that it exists, and the law that conceals it, are hidden (ACoS, Ch. 11).
So, obviously, if just stilling records are kept in the Thirtheenth Depository, Information about skills that the forsaken used and that most believed to be lost which are actually documented in the Tower Records, surely kept in the Thirtheenth Depository.
If not Siuan, it only could have been Leane as the only other people allowed in there are the Sitters of the Hall, and even then they have to be accompanied by the Keeper otherwise they won't be allowed to access it.
"These are the secret histories, containing information that, by law, on The Amyrlin Seat, the Keeper of Chronicles and the Sitters of the Hall and the librarians who keep the records have access to."
Now that this as been proven, apologise to my client people, thank you.
About me believing she did not need to go back to the Tower to know I just refered to this thing I stumble uppon while researching :
MINOR SPOILER AHEAD (we kind of know this already but some might have not picked up on it when Min prophecised it in S1)
Egwene thinks that Siuan "must have spent a good part of her years in the Tower burying herself in the secret histories," because she "seemed to have every detail at her fingertips" (TPoD, Ch. 16).
Proving that Siuan was the one that made Moiraine gaining her powers possible, also prove that Verin probably turned to the dark at some point, which I believe was when she left with Liandrin but also :
"Compulsion is a weave that forces to do as they're instructed (TSR, Ch. 46). During the War of the Shadow, it was a potent weapon. People were forced to serve the Shadow against their will. Others were converted to undercover agents, to betray the Light at the most damaging times (TWoRJTWoT, Ch. 4)."

So an AU where Mat isn’t Ta’veren and becomes our POV in the Black Tower.
Now the first dilemma I faced was how much Mat should be integrated into the main plot, especially given that the Black Tower isn’t created until book five. So here’s what I got so far input for what this goofy little guy should get up to is welcome.
So after Winter Night, Perrin, Rand, and Egwene go with Morraine and Lan leaving our non-Ta’veren ordinary guy Mat behind. Now Mat, not knowing the details, is quite upset because as far as he knows his two best friends just ditched him to go on an adventure without him. When Nynaeve goes after them Mat tries to tag along but Nynaeve very firmly sends him back home. However, Ta’veren or not this is still Mat Cauthon we’re talking about so he goes after them himself. He spends the rest of Eye of The World having narrow misses with the plot, running into Thom at Whitebridge after the Myrdraal incident and drags that poor man all the way to Camlyn only to discover that he once again missed his friends and now has no idea where they’ve gone.
In The Great Hunt we find Mat traveling with Thom and Dana as an apprentice Gleeman, until they meet up with Rand in Cairihan. Rand tells him about the the horn but leaves out the whole, he’s the dragon reborn bit. Now this version of Mat doesn’t believe he’s a hero but he also has yet to discover Consequences so he really wants to be one, so he immediately insists on joining Rand to find the horn of Valere. Rand tries the tried and true method of being the worst to your loved ones to drive them away for their own good but while it DOES upset Mat, you aren’t shaking him that easily especially since he’s already invited to that party Rand and friends needs to break into. Things end up going relatively the same from their and they all go to Falme, Mat gets a late reveal there that Rand is the Dragon Reborn, we have Seanchen problems and Mat is still the one to blow the horn of Valere.
The Dragon Reborn baby, in order to try and keep Mat safely out of the plot Rand convinces him to escort the girls back to Tarvalon. Now no one but Rand and Perrin know he blew the horn of Valere and at their urging Mat decides to keep it that way, but he quickly finds that when your a man and not Ta’veren or the known sounder of the horn of Valere you very quickly get bored of the White Tower. After spending some time gambling at every tavern in Tarvalon and training a bit with the warders and Gawyn and Galad, the girls give him the letter for Morgause and send him on his way no Armylin permission slip required. Things go pretty similarly as they do in the book, Mat picks up a depressed Thom, discovers a plot to kill the girl’s, gets some fireworks and breaks into the Stone, though he is now slightly less effective without his supernatural luck.
The Shadow Rising finds our boy Mat feeling severely put out and a bit helpless. The girls as usual were less then grateful for the rescue and Rand and Perrin are too busy to talk to him. He still goes to Egwene for advice and hears about the Red Stone Door and still goes through it, though this time he actually gets to ask his three questions before getting kicked out since there’s now only One Ta’veren in there. Mat’s still contemplating what his confusing answers mean when Rand pops out, and things continue from there as planned. This time however Mat does not go to the Wastes and instead joins Thom and Julin as unwanted bodyguards for Nynaeve and Elayne. Hilarity ensues. More importantly however during the Tanchico arc Mat starts considering the possibility of learning to channel. After all, the girls aren’t wrong about him not being much help against the black ajah without channeling. So using the scraps of information he has he tries to teach himself how to channel. But it’s not going so well. However once they reach Salidar he finds a certain someone who might be able to help with that…
In Fires of Heaven and onwards we get more of Mat feeling helpless to protect his friends and using his most powerful weapon, his puppy dog eyes, he gets Logain to grudgingly agree to help teach him though one problem is that Logain is gentled but Mat won’t let that stop him. Egwene shows up, Logain is de-gentled and Mat get’s the bright idea to take the bow healed Logain and head to the Black Tower. Mat proceeds to get tangled up in both the Black Tower sub plot and Elayne’s Succession plot line. He also finds Olver at some point. That’s all I got so far

Teaching Hope
American high school teacher Ava Stanford has been betrayed in the worst way possible. So she takes a temporary job at a village school in England. She’s definitely not running away, but even she admits she’s got nothing to go home to.
School receptionist Hope Perkins is hardly at her peak. She’s a single mum, living with her own mother, and battling her ex for custody of little Alice. It’s not exactly the life she pictured in close-knit Whitebridge. Add in a new neighbor, who hates Hope’s cat, and things couldn’t get much worse.
But when a miscommunication results in child-allergic Ava teaching six-year-olds, it soon becomes clear that the only thing standing between her and disaster is Hope. And as irritating, annoying, and downright rude as Hope finds Ava, she soon starts to develop other feelings too.
Opposites definitely attract, and with cats galore, children running riot, interfering mothers and blue-haired bookstore owners, it’s hard to escape Whitebridge unscathed. Because once a town adopts you, you’re there for good. Providing Ava finally lets down her guard enough to let Hope in, that is.

He lost his arm due to the Krang(16)
He got his prosthetic a year later due to Donnie.
The vine design was by Mikey
The Hamato Clan retired being heroes the same time their usual foes moved on (Hypno n Warren married, Foot Clan disbanding, Meat Sweats working for Big Mama, etc)
They moved to WhiteBridge Kansas(made up town). A small town that recycles and very farm friendly. They moved in when they were 19-24 years old.
Leonardo lives outside of the main town limits (30 mins) and runs a dairy and egg farm. Not very big but comfortable.
Leo has been living in peace and still recovering from the trauma of the Krang. He is living his best life

6, 7, 19, 24 for dai, minah and eniko!
thanks my dear // edgy misc oc ask meme
6. How easily could your OC be convinced to do something that goes against their moral compass?
DAI — it would take something pretty extreme, like holding the life of a loved one over his head or reforging the very substance of his soul. he's kinda stubborn. MINAH — it depends on how far afield the something is. her moral compass is already a little wiggly, which makes it easier to talk her into some things, but she can dig her feet in when she has a real actual issue with it (for example, she is totally cool with lying to a prisoner but won't force-feed anyone devil's dust. who understands her moral code? not me) ENIKO — eniko's moral compass is a pinwheel. pay him enough and he'd do pretty much anything. kids are a hard line for him, but to be honest, in the right circumstances any line can be stepped over. (he'd feel wretched after, but when has how he feels ever stopped him)
7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?
DAI — he's so much bitchier than anticipated MINAH — she's been quieter than I had planned. part of that is how we play (the perils of internet roleplay), plus I get self conscious about narrating stuff my OC might be doing that's mostly flavor (that won't stop me from posting about it endlessly here). but I also think the whole warden Thing(TM) is a bigger Thing(TM) than she anticipated and she's starting to fray a little bit. ENIKO — his stupid ACCENT what is going on there
19. How does your OC behave when enraged?
DAI — impatient, mostly. it takes a lot to make him furious, but he can get really withering and mean. doesn't necessarily mean he won't keep doing whatever work needs getting done, but he's going to be short-tempered about it MINAH — her rage has turned out to be a cold and close thing. it bubbles up in her chest, but she keeps a tight leash on it. when she externalizes it, she tends to lash out in sharp and specific ways, or ice up completely. I think her rage tends to come with a certain clarity which she feels gives her precision and perspective. I don't know if that's entirely true. ENIKO — well first of all his own feelings don't matter so jot that down. he'll weaponize it if he can (prey animal rage!!) or smother it if it's not helpful. if it's gotten to the point where he's lost control of his own rage, it's probably really horrible and messy for everyone involved. let's get that boy furious and covered in blood
24. What is an alternative life path your OC might have gone down? How different would their life be if they'd made those decisions?
DAI — I cannot conceive of a daichi who didn't join the order, but for argument's sake — au where instead of joining the sunsingers and becoming a cleric, he decided to go down to the underdark and learn more about where he came from. maybe he'd have found the void that way; maybe he'd have met the void tieflings earlier? MINAH — that's redacted. but she thinks about it a lot if that helps. ENIKO — somewhere out there is an alternate universe where he didn't say yes to Sir's offer and instead scraped a living on the streets (bridge?) of Whitebridge for long enough to start sneaking into University lectures and learning magic. He'd be a million times better off, obviously. Equally cynical and probably just as scrappy, but with 60% less trauma and 50% more understanding of his own unique personhood.

💙 Please dance for me 💙
Tumblr media
Es ist einige Zeit vergangen doch die Jungs von der Tanzgruppe haben sich wieder zusammengerauft. Nur Dilen ist noch nicht wieder mit dabei. Was viele von ihnen sehr schade finden. Und he! Keine Sauerei mit Tim in der Küche klar? Nicht das ihr beide wieder meint ihr wolltet nur was Backen. Adrian: He.. wir haben was gebacken. Was kann ich dafür wen Tim so heiß aussah als er den Teig geknetet hat.
Tumblr media
Perr setzte sich raus auf die Terrasse und rief bei Donni an.
Perr: Donni, hi. Na schon in Aufbruchsstimmung?
Tumblr media
Donni: Jap Shade kann es kaum noch erwarten. Er prüft jetzt schon zum 6 Mal ob der Flug auch stattfindet. Shade: He! Ich will eben auf Nummer sicher gehen.
Tumblr media
Perr: Tja sicher ist sicher, weißt du doch. Aber warum ich Anrufe. Hast du schon was von Dilen gehört?
Tumblr media
Donni: Ne, nichts.
Tumblr media
Shade: He und mich hast du nicht lieb? Donni: Hehe, klar!

Let's (re)Read The Eye of the World! Chapter 31: Play for Your Supper
Tumblr media
What's this, a picture of Josha being used in my reread of a book told almost exclusively from the POV of the character he portrays? Bizarre! What else is bizarre is just how much I love spoiling the whole damn Wheel of Time series, so if you're not into that sort of thing it's time for you to get out of here. Begone!
This chapter opens with the icon of a heron-marked blade. It's a little odd since the sword doesn't come up too much in this chapter, whose "climax" revolves around the gleemen equipment. However, it is discussed, and Rand does have some complex thoughts about Tam. Still though, one of the odder choices.
A sudden gust swirled road dust up around him, obscuring everything. He blinked and adjusted the plain, dark scarf across his nose and mouth. None too clean now, it made his face itch, but it kept him from inhaling dust with every breath. A farmer had given it to him, a long-faced man with grooves in his cheeks from worry.
Yes folks, we're in that section of the story, where Rand does a bizarre flashback sequence that doubles around on itself so circuitously that many people assumed there was some kind of editing error. Frankly, I feel like Jordan's wife was a little distracted this section myself. The good news is, Jordan never does anything this confusing again. The bad news is, there's no counterbalancing bad news for me to use in a "good news/bad news" sequence.
One of them casually swung his eyes toward the hedge as he went by the opening, and Rand bared an inch of his sword. Mat snarled silently like a cornered badger, squinting above his scarf. His hand was under his coat; he always clutched the dagger from Shadar Logoth when there was danger. Rand was no longer sure if it was to protect himself or to protect the ruby-hilted dagger. Of late Mat seemed to forget he had a bow, sometimes.
I'm sure the best thing to do in this situation is to not worry about it, Rand. Absolutely nothing bad could be happening with your friend who is descending into paranoia before your very eyes. Of course, you've descended into paranoia too, so I guess the warning signs are hard to spot when you're busy assuming every dude on the road is trying to kill you.
Most traveled in the same direction that they did, eastward toward Caemlyn. Sometimes they got a ride in a farmer’s wagon for a little distance, a mile, or five, but more often they walked. Men on horseback they avoided; when they spotted even one rider in the distance they scrambled off the road and hid until he was past. None ever wore a black cloak, and Rand did not really think a Fade would let them see him coming, but there was no point in taking chances.
The good news about Logain's being captured and toured through Caemlyn is that the road is way too busy for any Fades to be wandering freely on it. Things had to play out this way or Rand would have been shanked on the roadside six miles out of Whitebridge.
Even if you go into one of those houses Tam won’t be there. If he was, could you look him in the face? You know, now, don’t you? Except for little things like where you come from and who you are.
Is it just being adopted that you know, Rand, or are you finding it harder to deny the other obvious truths?
Between them they had enough coins for a few meals at an inn, but a bed for the night would take too much. Things cost more outside the Two Rivers, more this side of the Arinelle than in Baerlon. What money they had left had to be saved for an emergency.
As someone who found that living on the outskirts of the civilized world made things cost more, not less, I'm curious as to if this checks out more in the economies of the Third Age.
They stood like that in the middle of the road until Mat suddenly gave an uncomfortable shrug, and dropped his eyes to the road. “Who would I sell it to, Rand? A farmer would have to pay in chickens; we couldn’t buy a carriage with chickens. And if I even showed it in any village we’ve been through, they’d probably think we stole it. The Light knows what would happen then.”
The dagger's quite lucky to have ended up with someone as clever as Mat, because while he's obviously being compelled not to part with the dagger, I think the specific arguments he makes are by and large his own.
“He’s up to something, I tell you,” Mat said. “See the way he wouldn’t meet my eye? Why are they so friendly to a couple of wanderers they never laid eyes on before? Tell me that.”
And here Mat is being paranoid but he's entirely correct: this farmer is deliberately choosing to screw them over by having them work and then kicking them out anyway.
It could have been worse, he thought. Three days earlier, while they were still working, they’d had the dogs set on them. The dogs, and the farmer, and his two sons waving cudgels chased them out to the Caemlyn Road and half a mile down it before giving up. They had barely had time to snatch up their belongings and run. The farmer had carried a bow with a broad-head arrow nocked. “Don’t come back, hear!” he had shouted after them. “I don’t know what you’re up to, but don’t let me see your shifty eyes again!”
And this is a different farmer who also fucked them over for some reason. What the hell kind of glowers was Mat giving them? Or did they finally notice the sword and freak?
Perrin would know how to handle this, he thought. He’d make some offhand comment, and pretty soon she’d be laughing at his jokes instead of mooning around where her father can see.
Rand, have you met Perrin?
He could never handle the instrument without a pang of sadness. Touching its gold-and-silver scrollwork was like touching Thom’s memory. He never handled the harp except to see that it was safe and dry—Thom had always said the harp was beyond a farmboy’s clumsy hands—but whenever a farmer allowed them to stay, he always played one tune on the flute after supper. It was just a little something extra to pay the farmer, and maybe a way of keeping Thom’s memory fresh.
It's a damn shame Moiraine didn't leave you some kind of sweet memento before she went to go live with the elves. Maybe you would have found a different outlet for your grief than what you picked. Also, the reference to the harp is a nice touch that will pay off next book when Thom is pissed that Rand ruined the strings.
“I think they should have a reward, father,” Mistress Grinwell said as she picked up her youngest boy, who had long since fallen asleep in front of the fire. “The barn is no fit place to sleep. They can sleep in Else’s room tonight, and she will sleep with me.” Else grimaced. She was careful to keep her head down, but Rand saw it. He thought her mother did, too. Master Grinwell nodded. “Yes, yes, much better than the barn. If you don’t mind sleeping two to a bed, that is.”
Mistress Grinwell is quite clever about handling her horny little daughter.
Rand and Mat are actually probably quite happy to avoid having a young lady drop into the barn in the night. They'd probably have panic attacks from the Trolloc memories alone.
Historically speaking, sleeping two a bed while traveling was quite common, so it's interesting that Grinwell thinks they might not like the concept. Sure it's probably just Jordan being a 20th century dude with 20th century norms, but I'll treat it as another subtle sign of the slow population drop that's been creeping up on society: much as the Emond's Field inn is far larger than it needs to be, all over the subcontinent is a surplus of furniture.
If there was more than one inn in a village, the innkeepers would bid for them once they heard Rand’s flute and saw Mat juggle. Together they still did not come close to a gleeman, but they were more than most villages saw in a year.
Okay, I was able to explain Whitebridge's gleeman enthusiasm, but this is too far. These people live on a well-traveled road between the capital city of Caemlyn and the major city of Whitebridge. They probably shouldn't be swarming with traveling entertainers, but they should do well enough. Where Emond's Field hiring a single performer for a holiday was a once-a-decade deal, these people should be pulling them frequently.
Ah well. Little details like this are some of the hardest worldbuilding to keep straight. Can't expect Jordan to be perfect if I'm not even going to read more than one chapter at a time - and we're at the end of this one. See ya next time for Four Kings!

“I don’t understand then, Perrin. Where do we go?”
He blinked in surprise. She was waiting for his answer. Waiting for him to tell her what to do. It had never occurred to him that she would look to him to take the lead.”
For gods sake Perrin she’s asking you that because you’re the one who suggested or vetoed four contradictory scenarios (Moiraine and Lan find us, Trollocs find us, we go to Whitebridge, we go hiding somewhere no one can find us) so she’s wondering what in the hell you’re on about.

The Eye of the World, Chapter 42 - Remembrance of Dreams
(THIS PROJECT IS SPOILER FREE! No spoilers past the chapter you click on. Curious what I'm doing here? Read this post! For the link index and a primer on The Wheel of Time, read this one!)
(Ravens icon) In which someone's a little stressed out.
A more subdued group goes back down the stairs. Rand leads them to the library, taking several steps in before he realizes everyone else has stopped at the sight of Loial. Rand makes introductions, and none of them call Loial a Trolloc so they're already on a better footing than even Rand was. They all sit, and calm down, as if a warm armchair and a cat sleeping on the hearth of a fireplace make them feel at home.
Perrin asks Loial about stedding, and Loial is more than happy to talk about his home and his journey. Rand's thoughts slip to Mat, since he's heard it all before. Suddenly the door opens, and Mat's there, looking like he was never sick at all. He's surprised at Loial, and apologizes for acting oddly.
“The further from Whitebridge, the hazier it gets. I don’t really remember arriving in Caemlyn at all.” He eyed Loial askance. “Not really. Moiraine Sedai says I . . . upstairs, I . . . ah. . . .” He grinned, and suddenly he truly was the old Mat. “You can’t hold a man to blame for what he does when he’s crazy, can you?” “You always were crazy,” Perrin said, and for a moment he, too, sounded as of old. “No,” Nynaeve said. Tears made her eyes bright, but she was smiling. “None of us blames you.”
Moiraine says she can't remove the dagger or undo the taint fully on her own, it's been with him too long, weeks now. She's contained it, for now, but it can only be properly removed from him in Tar Valon. Rand says it's good that's their next destination, then, though he sounds resigned and she gives him a sharp look.(1)
Loial and Moiraine introduce themselves, and Moiraine asks Loial to excuse them to plan their journey. Rand has to step in and say he promised Loial could join them, and Moiraine pauses for a moment before murmuring "The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills."(2)
Lan leaves to guard the entrance from the outside, so they're not snuck up on. Moiraine says they have to leave as soon as possible. Her wards will soon tip off the Fades to their location, and there are Whitecloaks looking for Perrin and Egwene. Rand makes a noise of surprise, and Moiraine asks why he'd be surprised at that. He says he thought they were looking for him and Mat. Loial says, surely you can think more clearly than that, the Children hate Aes Sedai, Elaida wouldn't-
Moiraine asks sharply what Elaida has to do with this, glaring at Rand so hard he wants to lean back in his chair. He relays a shortened version of events, not using Elayne's title when he refers to her (leading Egwene to ask quietly who Elayne is).(3) Perrin mentions all they met were Whitecloaks and Tinkers. Loial makes a speech about Tinkers, then tells Moiraine about a man who came to their stedding, about twenty years back, and said he had to tell Tar Valon that the Dark One intended to blind the Eye of the World. Loial asks, can he do that, blind the Eye of the Great Serpent? Perrin says, huh, that's the same story the Tinkers said an Aiel told them. Moiraine sits dead still and turns only her head toward Perrin as she asks, "What story?"
Perrin tells the story he was told, briefly, but says it was only three years ago, not twenty. After a moment where Moiraine's mind is clearly reeling, Perrin says, hey, Ba'alzamon, now I remember where I heard that name before! Don't you? Mat doesn't want to remember anything. Perrin says they have to tell her now, and she asks harshly, "Tell me what?!"(4)
So Rand and Perrin tell her about the dreams, and how things would happen in the real world after them, like the dead rats. And Baa had mentioned that the Eye of the World would never serve [you] to all of them, individually. They apologize for not telling her sooner. She says she could have protected them, maybe, or at least tried, but...
"Remember the stories of the Forsaken binding men to them? Strong men, men who had fought the Dark One from the start. Those stories are true, and none of the Forsaken had a tenth of the strength of their master, not Aginor or Lanfear, not Balthamel or Demandred, not even Ishamael, the Betrayer of Hope himself."
Rand asks what they can do, and Moiraine says they'll have to protect themselves, and they must never give in or agree with or to anything in the dreams. She asks what else he told them, so they tell her that he mentioned the Amyrlin Seat would try to use them, and gave them names. She says the Father of Lies is a good name for the Dark One, because he does it all the time, and believing anything he says is the first step toward surrender. Rand thinks how she didn’t really answer his question, but doesn’t say anything about it.
Loial mentions that they're all ta'veren, and Moiraine agrees. All three of them, when she expected only to find one.(5) Sometimes ta'veren means the Pattern will bend to their actions, and sometimes it means they will be forced onto the chosen path. They have to warn the Green Man,(6) as quickly as possible, and they can't even risk stopping in Tar Valon for help. At any rate, the dark armies will be upon them within ten miles on any road they leave the city on. Besides, they don't have weeks to get to the Blight...
“The Pattern presents a crisis, and at the same time a way to surmount it. If I did not know it was impossible, I could almost believe the Creator is taking a hand. There is a way.” She smiled as if at a private joke, and turned to Loial. “There was an Ogier grove here at Caemlyn, and a Waygate. The New City now spreads out over where the grove once stood, so the Waygate must be inside the walls. I know not many Ogier learn the Ways now, but one who has a Talent and learns the old Songs of Growing must be drawn to such knowledge, even if he believes it will never be used. Do you know the Ways, Loial?” The Ogier shifted his feet uneasily. “I do, Aes Sedai, but—” “Can you find the path to Fal Dara along the Ways?” “I’ve never heard of Fal Dara,” Loial said, sounding relieved. “In the days of the Trolloc Wars it was known as Mafal Dadaranell. Do you know that name?” “I know it,” Loial said reluctantly, “but—” “Then you can find the path for us,” Moiraine said. “A curious turn, indeed. When we can neither stay nor leave by any ordinary means, I learn of a threat to the Eye, and in the same place there is one who can take us there in days. Whether it is the Creator, or fate, or even the Dark One, the Pattern has chosen our path for us.” “No!” Loial said, an emphatic rumble like thunder. Everyone turned to look at him and he blinked under the attention, but there was nothing hesitant about his words. “If we enter the Ways, we will all die—or be swallowed by the Shadow.”
=====
(1) Why do you think she gave him that look? (2) That's starting to sound less like an explanation for the weird, and more like she's trying to convince herself that everything isn't falling apart. She must be used to having control over the events around her. (3) You can just tell that his slip into talking dreamily about her will come back to bite him in the ass. Love to see it. (4) Poor Moiraine! We still don't know much about her but it's clear she had a Mission™️ and not only has nothing been what she expected, literally everything is going opposite to how she'd have hoped. The way she slowly loses her cool as they offhandedly mention this or that adventure or conversation or dream is hilarious to read in that semi-hysterical kind of way. She goes from cool and calm to fine, whatever, to sharply cutting them off, to muttering under her breath, to a thousand-mile stare, to going full exorcist and turning only her head as every other muscle stays still, and then finally she's so tightly sprung that the mention of "we have to tell her" makes Rand think she's on the edge of hitting something. (5) Still annoyed that Egwene and Nynaeve weren't considered ta'veren. I know I said I won't comment much on the show, but I'm glad that's something the show is fixing, because they're all in this together. And, you may have noticed that an aura of coincidence surrounds them as well, not only in proximity to the boys. (6) There's that chapter 6 setup again. Rand musing on how he might meet the Green Man, or an Ogier, or a black-veiled Aiel. Well, the Aiel haven't showed up yet, but it looks like one's come true already and the other's on the way.

Kiddie City Preschool | Hallow Slough, SimDonia
Diana: Thank you for joining me on this engagement today, Elena.
Tumblr media
Elena: Oh, absolutely, Diana! Thank you for inviting us. I’m glad I was able to read to the kids and get Beckett Jr. out and about. I know I haven’t been doing my full share in engagements lately. I hope you know how sorry I am.
Diana: No need to be sorry, Elena. Please, I know getting back into things after children is not easy.
Elena: Thank you for understanding, Diana. It has been tough. I feel so different now that I’m a mother. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, of course. But, I don’t want to feel like I’m letting you down.
Tumblr media
Diana: Please, don’t you worry. You are doing no such thing.
Elena: That’s good to hear. So, how are you? Parker is getting so big.
Diana: I know, isn’t he? And, I’m doing... alright. Everyday brings new challenges, of course.
Elena: I’m sure. Well, you take them on with grace and class, Your Majesty. You make it look easy!
Diana laughs: I don’t know about that, but thank you.
Tumblr media
Elena: It seems like something’s troubling you, Diana. Need a sounding board?
Diana sighs: Am I that obvious? Well, now that you mention it... I did speak with my advisors this week and they informed me of some concerns about Bria.
Elena: Ahh...
Diana: This doesn’t surprise you?
Tumblr media
Elena: Well... not particularly...
Diana: You have concern with Bria, as well?
Elena: No! Not me, personally. But, I can see where those who are more traditional can... take issue with some of Bria’s choices. I, for one, love her take on being a Senior Royal. She brings a new approach to her role which I admire.
Diana: Yes... and I wouldn’t classify SimDonia as “traditional” when it comes to monarchy. We’ve always sort of forged our own path.
Elena: I agree. But, in the eyes of a traditionalist, new and different is keyword for bad. In Whitebridge, Beckett would’ve been next in line for the throne if it wasn’t for his father changing the law to allow women in the line of succession. A great thing, in my opinion, but many people took issue with it and saw the monarchy as weak.
Tumblr media
Diana: That’s a good point. And a percieved weak monarchy is always a concern. Especially right now with people still getting used to a new Queen, the... Pendites issue lingering in their minds... (stressed sigh)
Elena: So... what are you doing to do about Bria?
Diana: I’m not sure yet, but I hope whatever it is doesn’t ruin our relationship.
Elena: I understand. That last thing you need is strifes between family. Well, no matter what you do, Beckett and I will support your decisions. I understand how hard of a position you’re always in.
Diana: Thanks, Elena. I really do appreciate your support.
