hm you know what I’m gonna be honest I don’t think Your Turn to Die deserved the danganronpa treatment
#both in its comparisons to dr and in the nature of its fandom#it’s a narrative with interesting themes that deserves more than typical danganronpa style shipping discourse#or like. judging the characters based on how problematic they are#instead of their merits as characters#not to say “ohhh analysis is a Dead Art#kids these days are SHALLOW and VAPID”#which is a stupid take#enjoy things how you please#not my business#it’s just.. the shipping discourse thing fit danganronpa so much better because it was so character driven#that was its thing with the freetime events and whatnot#but while yttd also focuses a lot on its characters it puts a lot of stock into the nature of people and how they interact#and humanity and how we define it#i wish it was appreciated more#yttd#your turn to die#like remember the qtaro hatred? it seems people only really started considering him as someone to even consider when he “redeemed” himself#which yeah! his redemption is really cool and it’s interesting to see how his character progresses!#but it was SO not fair to the story to before that point just be like “he sucks. I hate him” and have that be the end of it#don’t even get me STARTED on the children’s youtubers playing it#nothing else actually bothers me. for real if you like shipping and stuff that’s totally cool.#but the childrens youtubers relentlessly misinterpreting and simplifying everything to make things funnier#GRRRR….#yttd is already funny! stop making marvel quips for one second goddamnit!#yttd spoilers#anyway. this has been egotistic rant in which I toot my own horn that I’ll probably regret later#see you next time

Can I ask why exactly you like Sauron? You think that he’s a cool villain?
Hey anon, a very good question!
Yeah, you really can boil it down to the fact that I think he's a cool villain. I generally like the villains more in things. I always have, even when I was small. They just always struck me as more fun to read about or watch. Especially the ones with the really overly theatric antics and aesthetic. It makes them fun. (Also, the tendancy, especially in children's media, to have the villains constantly doing some dramatic evil laugh always made it seem to me like they were having more fun than everyone else...). I also always thought they get to be the more interesting things, they get to be the vampires and ghosts and mad scientists. I've never envied a hero being a normal human with a strict moral compas. I have envied villains with wild powers who simply blow up their problems. And of course, without the villain being villanous, would there even be a story? No. Say thank you to the villains for your favourite tales.
As for Sauron specifically, he fits the above. He's dramatic. He looks like he's having fun being awful. I want to be a shapeshifter/vampire/werewolf/necromancer/ruler of all things/demigod goddamnit!
But he also hits on something else that I'm a complete sucker for in stories. I love fall stories. In fact, I love anything that involves a character switching sides, but a fall is always more interesting to me than a redemption. I love to watch someone get worse. I love to watch them get what they wanted and lose it or throw it away. I love a good bit of hubris. Of course, we don't get to see Sauron's fall. It's never described, not even sketched out. But at the same time, whenever you read Tolkien's writings about Morgoth it's always very "and he was always awful, just the worst, terrible guy, probably spits on babies or something". His writing about Sauron always seems to contain a little nugget of "he wasn't always like this, in fact his evils are inspired by what were once his virtues". It invites you to think about his character. There's hidden layers in there that we are free to imagine and explore. And it's made all the more interesting by the fact that our order loving Maia chose to serve chaos and change itself, which is seemingly contradictory, though Tolkien does explain it by his being attracted by the decisiveness and power of Morgoth. It's just fascinating how much there is hiding behind the villain who never really appears on the page very much, even when he is The Big Bad TM.
This isn't even getting into his other kind of falls, meaning his defeats. He's terrifying and powerful but put him in a fist fight or on the beach and he's going to end up disembodied or almost so. He's a bit not that impressive under all that power.
Over all, he has everything that I enjoy in a character and I just think he's fun.

Youve talked a lot about why you admire jttw's redemption arcs for acknowledging how fucked up everyone was beforehand but i just wanna show some appreciation for how everyone still retains parts of themselves that could be considered flaws in other narratives. like when SWK becomes a buddha, he's not a pacifist, he's the *fighting* buddha. and zbj celebrates gluttony and indulgence yet when he attains enlightenment his role still celebrates that as an altar-cleanser :>
Oh you are so genuinely big-brained for this anon.
YEAH YEAH YEAH when it comes to everyone's favorite ex-assholes' attainment of enlightenment and what this could mean for any potential Xiyouji sequels, there is just so many interesting possibilities and implications you can work with when it comes to the pilgrims' post-journey lives! I know they only get their new positions at the very end of Journey to the West--and given the assumedly "great"final" ending that is achieving enlightenment this is probably why a lot of jttw-related media taking place in the future either re-writes jttw in some major ways and/or has it that the pilgrims failed in their mission and/or became basically the complete opposite of who they once were--but as you say there's something really compelling in the idea that they were successful AND retained their core characteristics BUT with all the maturity and desire to do genuine good that they developed over the course of the journey and solidified with enlightenment. I think that's at least why a few people playing around with jttw sequels have the pilgrims' be more like boddhisatvas than buddhas, as from what I understand this means that they DID attain enlightement but have put off entering paradise in order to more actively help others achieve the same. I feel like that makes a lot of sense for the pilgrims too, as they all experienced the wide gamut of pain and desires that can drive a person down the paths of samsara, which could end up providing a strong foundation for compassion for others. Plus there is something very cool with the idea that the same traits--even ones like a willingness to violence, gluttony, etc--can be beneficial or detrimental depending on how they manifest. That really drives home the idea of just how much there's no such thing as a "naturally" wicked individual, but that so much of one's moral character depends on what one actually DOES.
So (just to put it down) with the pilgrims you have:
Sun Wukong as the Victorious Figthing Buddha/Buddha Victorious in Strife, whose role is now that of a great exorcist and a protector of children. Interestingly too this title also suggests his prowess in defeating the emotions that drive negative actions as well as his victory over cyclic existence, something that we definitely see him achieve for himself!
Tang Sanzang is the Buddha of Candana (Sandalwood) Merit, a figure that others call upon to help absolve them of sin and a title that seems to be attached to the idea that the fragrance of sandalwood can help cool the passions of sentient beings and help them settle their minds (i.e. the very reason Xuanzang wanted to undertake the journey in the first place & something that Tripitaka is seen as having a lot of practice with given who his tudi are!)
Zhu Bajie becomes Janitor of the Altars, which is a role indicating that he actually did NOT in the end achieve enlightenment because he is still beholden to his base desires, but that he will now be able to put his appetite to work in a beneficial way. Interestingly enough, it seems to have been partly because of his lowest rank among the pilgrims at the end that Zhu Bajie has recently been adopted as a patron deity for sex workers in Taiwan, as many of them feel that other more "legitimate" deities would but look down on them.
Sha Wujing becomes the Golden-Bodied Ahrat. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find much information on what exactly this role suggests besides that ahrats are perfected people who have freed themselves from the bonds of desire and therefore will not be reborn, so if anyone has more information please let me know!
Bai Longma is made one of the dragons belonging to the Eight Classes of Supernatural Beings, who from what I understand are an interesting mix of entities, from demons to nagas, who all work as Buddhist protectors. For me at least it's kind of neat to think of the possibilities of everyone's favorite dragon horse, after he seems to have been so thoroughly rejected by his own family, found a bigger one both in the pilgrims and then with these other supernaturals.

So I was looking up the DP character wiki, as one does, and I found out that canonically Jazz basically had nanobots injected in her blood by Vlad, and that has never really been addressed again (which is a shame because it could make some interesting stories), so after binge reading all your anger management fics my first thought abaut this info was "how would Jason react to this?" Because finding out your girlfriend, who you love and cherish like nothing else in the world, has nanobots basically infused with her nervous system, and that whoever control these bots can just compleatlly burn her nervous system at any given moment has to be one hell of a trip.
All i know is that Vlad better pray that Jason dosen't find out it was him, because Jason still can and will pull the dufflebag incident again if he ever finds out
(If anyone wants to use this as a prompt go ahead! This is just a thought I had and wanted to share it anyways)
First of all, thank you for reading my fics!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
And yeah!! The nanobots thing was never used again????
For those that don't remember, in Secret Weapons (season 2), Jazz is injected with some nanobots so Vlad can remotely kill her if she dares betray him:
Tumblr media
and... it was never addressed again?
Yeah, I'd think Jason would want to kill Vlad after learning about the nanobots, and Danny is like yeah buddy, me too, we ride at dawn.
I don't think Jazz would be happy about it, since she is not very into killing Vlad, or maybe Vlad redemption arc and he tries to undo the nanobots thing?
I think it could be cool if she's taken to the Watchtower because they have some tech there that can disable all the nanobots or can take them all out. Danny would be so envious that she gets to see the Watchtower before him.
She reminds him is for life threatening situation, but ultimately rubs it in his face because she may be the older sister but she's not over being a little shit.
Anyway, good question, anon!!!! Thanks 😊

Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Trolls World Tour
Tumblr media
So I'm learning more and more that the Trolls franchise is not what I was led to believe for such a long time now. Because I really did actually like the first one a good bit. So how does its sequel hold up? Well...
Tumblr media
We once again follow Poppy and Branch, this time on a quest to stop Barb, the Queen of the Rock Trolls, from stealing the six strings that create all music types in the world of the Trolls (Rock, Pop, Funk, Classical, Techno, and Country). Barb's plan is to unite all Trolls under Rock exclusively, so its up to Poppy (who is struggling to learn what it means to be a good queen) and Branch (who's struggling to confess his feelings for Poppy) to save the day.
Tumblr media
Yeah, pretty simple, very "questy" premise here, kinda feels like the structure of a video game in a weird way? Like our crew rolls into the various territories of the other Troll tribes and we get to see a little taste of who they are and how they live but none of it is really that in-depth, which is... fine, I guess, whatever. There are certainly some... interesting themes they're trying to get across here, like historical rivisionism and even overcoming racism??? I think?? But of course, because this is a kids movie, its all very simplified into "we're all different and that's ok!" because well, they're not gonna make it that complicated for the little kiddo brains this is clearly targeted for.
Tumblr media
As a result, we get a much simpler movie than even the last one, which was already pretty simple. The characters from last time around are all pretty much the same as before, Poppy is still upbeat and eternally positive (though her arc here is pretty satisfying of her learning to listen to others and that she doesn't know best all the time), Branch is still The Best Character in this goddamn franchise, the side characters are all just... there. And as for our new characters, none of them really stood out that much except for Barb. She's a pretty fun villain! Very punk rocker, very sassy and sharp, and she even gets a few good moments to give her depth by the end and make you ok with her eventual redemption. She's cool.
Tumblr media
The music is a little more varried this time around too, because well, it has to be given this movie's premise. So we get some tastes of country and funk and rock alongside the usual pop, which is still the most prominent genre for sure. There are even hints of classical, raggae, even goddamn k-pop because lord. Though I will admit, when they started singing Gangnam Style I think I lost about three years off my life jesus christ.
Tumblr media
The visuals are just as lovely as the last though, dedicating itself to an even more arst and crafts asthetic than the last. The homes of all of the other types of trolls are really fun and varied and fit nicely with the style of music they're trying to embrace. There's nothing too fantastic going on here with the animation, but its still very nice to look at all the same.
So yeah, Trolls World Tour is... fine. It's perfectly watchable, just like its predecessor was. I would dare to call it mid, which explains the score I give it below, I guess. It just... exists. And that's all I can really say about it.
Overall Rating: 5/10
Verdict: WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU TWO ALL MOVIE?!?!?!?!

Ninjago crystallised gets a 4.5/5 for me!
Overall, nice conclusion to the series, it had all the energy and fun and dynamics I adore, and the call backs to previous seasons were pretty great. The story with Sally was sooo fun! I love Zane. His moment with Pixal in ‘Compatible’ made me cry.
More time could have been given to Nya, y’know, coming back to life. I was going to say more time for Lloyd and Garmadon as well but leaving some loose ends felt natural actually. Zane’s emotions being off could have been more of a source of tension I really liked that concept.
My biggest qualm is with the overlord design. He was not scary! Yes S2 overlord was our childhood sleep paralysis demon, but come on! He was so cool. The tension suffered from his lacklustre scariness. I guess they don’t want to traumatise kids like that anymore huh (as my 8yr old sister put it: “yeah I was kind of traumatised by that.”)
Second biggest issue is Harumi. From this season I believe Harumi is irredeemable and that her motivations are a sham. I loved her in S10 and I think she’s a really cool character; this season just didn’t do it for me. Her ‘death’ in season… uhh I’m losing track WHENEVER was perfect symbolically and for her character.
1) She works with Pythor who released the great devourer… did she not know? But then betrays the Overlord because he created the great devourer. I feel like this is a much less direct link…
2) She believes that because she suffered everyone else should suffer too. She’s smart but not smart enough to see that reviving big evil baddies is never going to end well for her. I think she’s probably insane for trying the same thing twice and for not caring how many people suffer or die as a result of her actions in the same way she suffered and her parents died. She needed a very proper redemption arc for me to even consider her as a romantic interest for Lloyd. Oh my god. My sweet Lloyd deserves someone who can give him the whole world. I don’t care how many parallels there are or how they are the opposite. It doesn’t change the fact that as of the end of crystallised, Harumi is still manipulative, evil, selfish and cruel. HARUMI RANT OVER. I am glad that Lloyd never stopped believing in her though… but it’s not as though that’s the reason she changes sides, which would’ve been nice. I can’t help but feel like their relationship would be incredibly toxic and they’d have a lot of issues. (Harumi redemption believers DNI this girl is not redeemed) That being said I’m open to fanfic interpretations of their relationship because we can just head cannon our way outta this one (pls lmk if there are good Harumi redemption fics).
I would say S2 finale was more emotional. Ohh and S3. Nothing will beat Zane’s sacrifice. That scene changed my life.
Vanya… I don’t think Cole needed a romantic interest. That’s another discussion though.
IM SO EXCITED TO START DRAGONS RISING!! My sister was crying that Ninjago ended and I was like DO NOT FEAR CHILD THERE IS HOPE-

just finished reading the god of war novelisation (the first game) and it was Very Interesting.
it gives loads of insight into the gods, some scenes are actually from athena’s pov, which was super cool to read but the book also really drives home what a terrible person kratos really was, at least during that section of his life. I’d watched cutscenes from all of the greek saga games so obvs I already knew about how he used to be, and of course his redemption is one of the cores of the norse games so you have to assume he was pretty bad, but like… he was BAD.
he kills without pretty much zero sympathy or regard for innocent lives, in fact the only time he feels shock or horror at violence is when it’s towards children (because it makes him think of calliope). it’s mentioned a few times that he actively enjoys bloodshed and did even before he became the Fist of Ares. i’m sure there’s plenty of nuance to be explored but no matter which way you look at it the ghost of sparta was a complete tyrant
and obviously this isn’t a shocking revelation because it’s basically what the last two games have been about, I think it’s just interesting having the newest games be your introduction to the series, because you’re seeing kratos in the middle of his redemption. you’re immediately sympathetic to him and even though you’re told he’s done terrible things it’s easy to feel like he can be redeemed because you haven’t actually SEEN them. knowing just how different he was makes his whole arc a lot more impactful imo, seeing kratos be so bloodthirsty and raging makes you really appreciate the older, quieter kratos.
sorry ik this is probably very obvious to people who have played the older games as they came out, but for me, who’s intro to the series was in 2018, it’s so cool getting a proper sense of what kratos used to be like and seeing things from his pov instead of just knowing what he did. really makes me appreciate his character even more, and kind of makes me wish i’d played the og games first. but yeah i actually recommend the novelisation especially if you haven’t played the greek saga! there’s some eh bits (especially with certain female characters) and there’s a LOT of gore so skip it if you’re bad with violence, but overall it was a good read and it was super cool to get stuff from the gods pov

Sorry to bring this up again, but I need to vent a little.
The thing is my biggest problem with 3.3's scaramouche quest is how he didn't really change at all as a character. What has he learn through all this? He learn that his friend never betrayed him and? How does that change his worldview? How is he affected? It's not like I'm saying that he should have undergo a 180 in personality or anything, and I understand that niwa's death and supposed betrayal is far from being the only reason he becomes like this.
But after all this, after basically a suicide attempt, after this whole ass quest, I expect him to at least have some sort of character development.
He gets a cool cutscene of recieving a vision and that's basically it. Apparently, according to his character stories, he did learn something but not everyone got him, so that doesn't change the fact it felt hollow.
But this is genshin so screw playable characters actually changing and developing, that's for NPCs.
(I just need to get this off my chest, cause it feels like I'm the only with this opinion, even if someone doesn't like this quest, it's because of the memory erasure or the 'redemption', both of which I thought the quest did alright. Not great but it could be worse)
Yeah, no, that's literally it. At the end of the day, it's "oh, I was wrong about Niwa, I shouldn't have hurt those people, I need to undo that now". Not, "I shouldn't have hurt those people, period", because he now just wants to hurt the Fatui instead. The Big Lesson was "you were wrong... about the lore!", not "you were wrong... to do awful things!"
And I firmly believe that Scara's suicide attempt was purely an excuse to facilitate him being willing to use Irminsul in the way he did in the first place, rather than something the writers wanted to actually explore in detail. I can say that with great confidence due to the absolute lack of interest HYV had in... actually making Scaramouche culpable for anything he did in a tangible way that involved any members of the main cast or resulted in any kind of karmic retribution, and as an amnesiac he responded to everything he learnt extremely calmly.
It isn't just that Scaramouche never interacts with any playable characters involved in any of this - it's that there are, specifically, playable character whose arcs relate to this event, and there was a whole event about them finding out about it in great detail, and then nothing comes of it. We're really going to spend so much time learning about the decline of the Kaedehara Clan and how that impact Kazuha growing up and his current ideologies, or hover over how Ayato had to salvage the Kamisato Clan from the ashes, and Iradori is gonna be all about Kazuha and Ayaka learning there is someone to blame for it and then just. Nothing
God help me Kazuha's fucking quest-
I genuinely have to wonder what the point of doing any of that was. Was HYV so incompetent that they genuinely used Iradori just to lay the groundwork for the Tatarasuna Mystery without realising that they had also laid the groundwork for... stories involving those characters?
And yeah, it does not escape my notice that HYV conveniently had Nahida's fairytale about kitten!Scaramouche to show us the scenes where Escher told him about Niwa via narration, and as a result they didn't actually have to write those scenes as flashbacks themselves.
Because god knows we wouldn't want to see the character, who is defined by betrayal, react to the betrayal that defines his character. In the chapter where we can see the past via a magic tree. Let's have a fairy tale metaphor. That sounds fun.
It's just so shockingly lazy. It feels like HYV did the bare minimum they could to avoid engaging with Scaramouche's feelings regarding anything that was happening, but slapped the Vision and Nahida's "you deserve to live!" monologue on at the end anyway to make it seem like growth had happened.

Heh, they both have some selfish wants that clashes their goals. But sometimes, you have to come down to compromises.
I've been thinking that too. Sonic seeing the charred remains of Nine's surprise for him.
I mean more like they hijack Nine's plans as a setup for his redemption/sacrifice later. Ultimately, something has appear to change his mind for a final team up or this will end in a heart-wrenching battle to the "death". (It really would've help if Tails showed some Nine traits before this. The closest we got was him being miffed about Sonic not listening to him; which Nine does show anger to.)
But yeah he's not, but considering he does know how to use the shards' power, he might end up unintentionally draining the other verses of their life force as he builds the Grim. (Might even end up accidentally being corrupted by them.)
Yeah, since the counterparts are implied to be broken, unbalanced pieces of the original Tails, would they be the last to "get together"? And I mean like, fuse to get the definitive Tails back. (If they do something of the sort, then the Tailses are definitely being saved for last. All the counterparts have to end up in one space by the finale, right? The Amys have a good lead, Renegade and Dread clashed leaving Gnarly left, and the Rouges probably won't have much issue teaming up.)
Agreed, though it's hard for me to see what kind of compromise we could get there, since I don't think the realities that they want could coexist.
Yep... it would be heartbreaking.
I think what would change his mind would be the bottomless pit trying to kill him/j
Honestly I don't know if I want him and Sonic to make up, it would be kinda cool to see Sonic's actions to have consequences and that he can't just make everything better by just saying sorry the same way he did with Tails... on the other hand – that'd be pretty sad.
Hmmm... idk about sacrifice, you can't really kill off a part of Tails if you're planning on putting them back together again.
Who knows. The Prism lore is a big blindspot for me here, I could try to predict what the characters would do, but with this it could literally be anything.
Ooohhh interesting. I just wanna see more of Sails and Mangey I'll be honest. Sails reacted very strongly when the pirates thought Sonic had betrayed them, he was kinda standing in front of everyone when they were confronting him and everything. I wonder what he'd think about Nine's actions.

Today we went to the mall, and, as we do about once a year, went for a "4d movie" at the mall cinema (3d movie with moving chairs that enhance the effects etc idk how else its called). We always deliberately choose the movie with most special effects, to take advantage of that particular feature.
So we went to Aquaman: the lost kingdom. And I expected for it to be a very insubstantial superhero movie but I ended up really appreciating it. I hadn't even seen the first movie in full btw, only some scenes so I was barely familiar with it, but appreciated the sequel nonetheless.
I especially expected DC superhero movies to be all grimdark and literally dark and depressing and boring and whatnot but it seems this sequel decided to go the redemption arc route and like a more classic action superhero movie route I guess. Like it's very standard in terms of its genre but I saw it as a breath of fresh air in the context of even superhero movies trying to be all subversive and dark for no reason.
Spoiler impressions below
When they showed flashbacks from the 1st movie it was more poorly lit and indeed I remember the first movie seeming darker but this one seemed brighter and more colourful than the first. The action scenes were fun etc.
The premise was very straightforward. The main hero has a family now. He married his love interest from the first movie and they have a baby (who, much to his delight, begins to show signs of superpowers, too). By the way, unlike the trope that one post talked about, they don't flash forward to the kid being a teen or something. The plot takes place over a few months only.
Suddenly some villain from the previous movie shows up again more hellbent on revenge than the first time around. He uses some scientist dude to guide him to Atlantis. I really liked the scientist character btw he was one of my fav characters from this movie. Anyway they find some other lost kingdom instead and the villain finds an ancient sceptre that's actually from an evil king trapped in the ice. The evil king "possesses" him but actually it's not really possession as much as. He whispers in his ears all his evil desires that the villain already has, aka take brutal revenge on the main hero and kill his family, and also adds the world conquering agenda or whatever. This will be relevant later.
The scientist character is like oh boy oh boy I finally fulfilled my dream of seeing Atlantis that's soooo cool aaaaaaa. Surely the people I work for aren't sus or villains at all. Oh well. Here I go giving them all my science help building this creepy ship. Here we go illegally infiltrating Atlantis. Yep nothing to see here. Here we go stealing fuel from a banned vault in Atlantis. Um yeah nothing to see here. Here we go using violent force to infiltrate through the main gate. Yep nothing sus. Oh wait. Civilians hurt. Oh crap am I working for the bad guys here?
Anyway Arthur (that's Aquamans name for a reason that would have made sense if I watched the first movie lmao. But I infer that he's actually from Atlantis but was raised on land, more specifically Hawaii??? His adoptive dad speaks to him in some native language at some point, which I assumed was Hawaiian from my very limited familiarity with Polynesian languages. But I'm getting off track). Arthur and his wife Mera who now rule Atlantis defend their home from the intruders but Mera gets injured from a powerful laser beam or whatever from the villain. So then Arthur is like woahhh there David (why does he have such a normal American name too. For some reason this kinda stuff took me out the most lmao). Now that you hurt my family, it's personal. But David the villain guy is like oh?! You killed my father! So I guess that's a thing that happened in movie one. Anyway I understand the rage but isn't world domination a pretty disproportionate revenge, David?
The characters do voice a similar sentiment. So then they're like. Oh no!!! He is being possessed by some bigger evil, that's why he's evil in a crazier way. This calls for reinforcements. Then they're like there IS somebody out there who can help out, it's your brother, Orm. And Arthur is out there trying not to fill the swear jar in ten seconds. But eventually he's like ok we'll get that stinky guy I hate, Orm, who is my brother, not that I have any choice in the matter. So he goes to this place in the desert where Orm is imprisoned because apparently he was the villain in movie one and tried to kill Arthur for "taking his throne" or whatever. Orm sees his brother and his already very bad vibe is immediately killed. Like ugh why did YOU have to save me etc. Anyway the very emaciated Orm turns healthy and muscular the second he gets into water, because he was like a fish on dry land I guess.
Can I say though that I love the dynamic between them. Like they start out hating each other's guts but are forced to collaborate to save the world and they do! But first. Orm is this extremely duty oriented guy while his brother is much more laid back, and they annoy each other a lot, but will later compliment each other with their strenghts. Anyway very straightlaced duty first stern rigid characters are a type I always like so I was already interested like oh. Nice! Villain from first movie is getting a redemption arc whether he wants to or not let's friccin gooooo.
Anyway it's quite understandable why the brothers have such a strained relationship and at some point Orm is even like how dare you complain about the burden of your kingly duties?!!!! I was raised since infancy to prepare to defeat you lest you steal my throne!!! And Arthur was like oh crap, you were?! I never wanted to steal your throne, I just wanted to stop you from destroying the surface world! Of course we had to end up imprisoning you. Idk I really liked that they had that convo early on.
Anyway they enter this illegal market/ downtown thing and they both try to solve the issue their way. Orm is like don't flex your muscles, let's do this the right way. So he tries the diplomatic route with the mafia kingpin, basically. Obviously that doesn't work so Orm rolls his eyes and is like ok you can beat them up now I guess. As a treat. So Arthur does his thing and the kingpin gives them the needed information (where David was hiding).
At some other point, they head to some island and Arthur tries to teach Orm to unlearn the hatred/ prejudice for the surface world. He describes all sorts of foods and stuff and Orm tastes a bug cause it's "earth shrimp" or whatever. Anyway they are attacked by giant mutant bugs cause the evil fuel was causing mutations and stuff. They reach a statue that has the message "a true king builds bridges" written on it. They have nowhere to run, being at the precipice, and Orm is super frustrated at his brother like look what you got us into idiot etc. But Arthur topples the statue over to build a bridge over the steep hole and they pass safely. Orm rolls his eyes like "that was a metaphor yk" but you just know he deep down respected Arthur for that move. Anyway the message about bridges is pretty central to the movie btw and I liked that tbh.
The Atlantian army fights off the villains but they're ruthless and they plan heavier and more dangerous weapons that will thaw the earth's glaciers to free the evil king from the ice. The scientist guy, I think his name was Shin?? Is like oh no you guys are literally doing global warming. Which was very cringe to include climate change discourse so blatantly in this superhero movie but whatever.
Shin discovers the evil sceptre and sees a different vision. I really liked this aspect. Every character doesn't see the same vision. They all see something relevant to them personally, as if to tempt them personally to accept the evil power, like Shin sees the icecaps melting and the evil king eventually emerging underneath. He is horrified and is fully convinced he had been working for the bad guys. He is still too scared to fight back yet however.
Arthur and Orm collaborate against the bad guys again and this time you can already see them being more efficient at teamwork. At some point Shin confesses to them that he'd been working for the bad guys but was too scared to fight back, so for the moment he only helps them with some intel, namely the truth about the evil sceptre.
Orm finds the sceptre and holds it for only a moment, and he gets his vision too. Its a centuries long history of Atlantis beginning with the war between two brothers, Atlan the founder of their empire, and the evil king they had locked up in the ice caps. I loved this tbh like ofc Orm has the historical vision! Ofc the history is ultimately about two warring brothers! This will be relevant later. I do love Orms character arc here honestly.
Anyway the other Atlantians are like. Orm??? Why aren't you in the high security prison??? And Arthur and Orm briefly explain but the others are like naww no way we're trusting Evil Guy from movie one TM ever again. But Orm quickly proves useful to the mission in the eyes of the others too.
He explains the vision about their history. The vision mentions how Atlan made a blood pact to seal the evil king away so only a blood pact can unseal him. The royal lineage of Atlan are all like oh this David guy wants our blood now?! And Arthur immediately is like oh crap, the baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course before you know it David is inside Arthur's surface house, where the baby is with his grandpa. David stabs grandpa and kidnaps the baby. Arthur and the others arrive seconds too late.
Thankfully his dad doesn't die. I expected this movie to go dark out of nowhere all the time but at any point in which it could've been derailed, it didn't go the 3edgy5me grimdark route.
They all pack up and go for the icecaps. David asks Shin to bring him the baby to kill and he pretends to comply but he brings a c4 instead. David still manages to kidnap the baby and almost goes for the stab!! Which yikessss. But Mera shows up with her superpowers. And so do the others. They were able to locate the baby because he had already developed some incipient superpowers (idk what to call it. Echolocation??)
Arthur and Orm fight David. Orm takes the evil sceptre from his hands and Arthur knocks him out cold. But!!!! Now Orm is suddenly super susceptible to the evil powers and the evil king keeps whispering in his ear about how he has ți take revenge on his brother for stealing his throne and kingdom etc. And I love this scene ok. Arthur verbatim is like hey stop this I know you're in there. Mmm I eat that up every single time haha. Orm is consumed by the darkness (his personal undealt with resentment + the evil king whispering in his ear that the only solution is to kill his brother) and the shots are nice. Like Orm saying stuff that can plausibly come out of his mouth like idk "I must bring the rightful king back, which is myself", but the evil king is visibly looming from behind him, and its a spinning shot. And Arthur is like hey wake up that's not you speaking hey you don't need to kill me I'm not trying to take anything away from you, you're my brother! And Orm has these flashbacks of their working together and getting along and Arthur telling him their mom loves him and never forgot him + their mom urging them to protect each other and he finally snaps out of it.
Arthur tries to kill the evil king with his own sceptre but that obviously doesn't work. Then, as the evil king is about to come at Arthur, Orm sits up and grabs Arthur's sceptre and hands it to him and Arthur kills the evil king who turns to dust etc. The evil kingdom is obliterated and the ice caps restored etc.
Orm and Arthur have this heart to heart where Orm is like hey dude you're right you should be king. Unlike me you did the right thing even when it was hard etc etc. Some encouraging stuff that called back to Arthur's earlier insecurities about being a leader and the scene with the bridge building. Very heartwarming.
The main heroes forgive Orm but ultimately decide to tell the Atlantian authorities he died in battle, lest he be put back in that prison. Arthur tells him to lay low for some time, so Orm swims away and eventually blends into some hunan crowd on the surface world. And I loved that scene with him just eating some random burger, too, because he could've chosen to hide in the North Pole or whatever but he chose the human world which he was previously very prejudiced against, to show his growth of character and that he was willing to take to heart what his brother taught him, one small step at a time.
There's a scene right after the evil king dies that Arthur reaches out to pull David off a crumbling cliff or whatever, as a show of forgiveness/ reconciliation, but David blatantly refuses the help and dies. Which is sad, but in character with his hellbent on revenge stance.
Arthur also shows his character growth in that he now fully embraces his responsibility and fulfills his role of building bridges. He tells the humans about Atlantis and forms alliances with them. I liked this, too, as it solves his initial internal conflict, his boring responsibilities and commitments as a ruler vs being a cool superhero dad, his human identity vs his Atlantian identity. In the end, only by fully embracing his responsibility does he get to, literally, have the best of both worlds.
I also liked the character development of Shin, who started out helping the villains, unknowingly, motivated by fulfilling his dream of discovering Atlantis. Even after discovering the truth, he's still too scared to act against evil. Until, at first only a bit, but in the end through a truly courageous act, finally stands up against evil, even if it puts his life in danger. He does survive, And he gets to see Atlantis allied with humans, which would've never been possible if he turned a blind eye to evil.
As a whole, this is a straightforward superhero story. But boy was it a fresh air amid all the dark superhero subversions. Like finally a story with clear villains and clear heroes, but however still complex characters. Like even the evil king had an understandable enough motivation: he let his scorn towards his brother who "stole" his "rightful throne" consume him to the point of selling his soul and becoming a monster who wants to drag others down with him and whisper in their ear to do the dirty work for him, all the while telling them they can freely fulfill their own evil desires of the heart.
(A very key part of this story was how letting one's evil desires consume them turns one into a monster, which is honestly such a solid theme to include! Very Christian view of sin and temptation and spiritual warfare, without being a Christian story in any way)
Orm is a very complex character and I love his redemption arc like yesss. See yourself in the original brother rivalry narrative of your history, boy! Be aware of your own potential for evil but never succumb to it again!!! Arthur himself has a pretty clear motivation: have fun and avoid burdensome responsibilities, but ends up learning to take up his role as king, hero and brother. In many other recent stories, him giving up the throne would've been portrayed as the good choice, but no, he has to learn that he has to do the right thing even when it's hard, and look, doing the right thing isn't even burdensome work with no reward. A true leader brings peace, which was indeed the case in the end.
Loved that Shin had to learn to grow a spine and actively stand against evil even when scared. His motivation was easily the most relatable, but I love that the narrative doesn't use his innocent motivations and ignorance as excuses for him to turn a blind eye, and in fact turning a blind eye, in context, is shown as extremely morally reprehensible. Idk how in character David was compared to his 1st movie iteration, but in the context of this movie, it was interesting how, even though the pther characters acted like he was just acting crazy cause he was possessed, he was actually just taking his ruthless revenge to its most deranged extreme. And the whole subplot with the evil sceptre was really interesting thematically. Like maybe it's because I just studied James but it gives major James 2:14-15 vibes like aaaaa. It's sad that David didn't accept the heroes forgiveness at the end, but that, too, reminds me of that post that goes like "nobody is unredeemable, just unrepentant"
It's not the most groundbreaking story but it's a satisfying story, with nice character development, relationships, themes and neatly tied up resolutions. I think that's what happens when you don't try to be subversive and Edgy but just try to tell an entertaining story. Classic heroes journey type stuff; we love to see it. Also the themes are more Christian coded than I've seen in a long time in a superhero movie, which took me by pleasant surprise.
If you ignore the cringe very ham-fisted climate change discourse stuff, the movie flows very naturally and it's a classic superhero type of story, entertaining and overall a satisfying watch.
In short, I liked it and was surprised I did because I kept expecting for them to ruin this story for shock value and to ruin the characters etc but it didn't. It just told a story, and that's rare nowadays especially in blockbuster films.

i watched the new scott pilgrim series & feel the need to ramble! spoilerily
(first: i have read zero interviews of the makers & might be really wrong about stuff, this is just my own little rambly analysis)
so as an old scott pilgrim enthusiastic i was just excited to see there was a new animation & expected to dip in that sweet millenial nostalgia all the film money is made of nowadays. also the animation looked super good!
and it was, pretty & fun to look at & the first episode went exactly as i expected, same familiar scenes from the comics, until the absolute change of direction at the last minute star trek (2009) style. i was also a big fan of star trek (2009) so i was like omg an alternate timeline cool
the new WHAT IF? plot was really unhinged & had the same bizarre energy as bryan lee o'malley's newest comic book series snotgirl which i had just read up to date a couple months ago so the change of tone wasn't completely unfamiliar. it felt a lot more 'adult', and that's kinda the way i see the new series: o'malley's grown up version of scott pilgrim, the series he created as a 20-year-old. he shows how scott would turn out if he continued to live his life like it's a videogame: a sad bitter old man-child who thinks he can just fight his way through anything (and THAT'S an important lesson for all the gamer-bros who related to him ~15 years ago [looking at myself at age 17...])
they did more justice to the 'evil' exes & made them real characters, not just video game bosses. loved matthew taking over the league & revealing his theathrical drama queen side. loved todd ingram's bisexual awakening. loved gideon as a pathetic little man. loved roxy sharing her hurt with ramona.
ramona also becomes her own character instead of just a love interest which is cool. she's the main character of the new show really. she faces her past instead of just running or letting someone else fight for her & it shows o'malley has written a lot of female protagonists after scott pilgrim. it's funny how on the new show he's like 'yeah scott is a pretty boring protagonist let's scratch that & give room for the real hero'
knives also got a good redemption. she gets out of the relationship drama of people too old for her anyway & reveals her musical genius -> also becomes a real character/person instead of just a "girlfriend" (who's treated really poorly by almost everyone)
o'malley showed the true immaturity of scott (& himself at the time) in a stingy but compassionate way. and that's the message of the show as i see it: compassion, even to those u first don't see worthy of it. also: growth. fixing past mistakes, taking responsibility. a 40-year-old taking the story of a 20-year-old & treating it with the wisdom of age. but in a fun, crazy way.
i liked it a lot

I would die for a meta on your thoughts about the reylo (which, let’s be honest, is basically just the kylo ren) fandom.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m biased. But I am straight up CONVINCED that the reason we lost out on a trilogy focusing on the trio is because of how much absolute annoying NOISE they made about #savebensolo online, which somehow convinced the movie directors that it was a cashcow making idea.
There’s the Rise of Kylo Ren comics, which apparently set up how Kylo didn’t burn down the school and it was all a big “misunderstanding”, but you will never convince me that that was the plan for kylo’s backstory in The Force Awakens. I specifically remember them talking about wanting Kylo to have an anti-redemption arc to parallel Anakin’s “redemption” arc, where Kylo would grow more and more entrenched in the dark side as the trilogy continued on. Him killing Han was supposed to cement that turn from the light.
And then, suddenly the rest of the movies start focusing more on him than Rey and her relationships with her friends. To the point where there are still Reylo fans who say that rey’s ending isn’t a happy one, because she “doesn’t care about Poe and Finn” as much as Kylo.
Rey didn’t even need to end up without a love interest! I know there are people who wish she had ended up alone, but Finnrey was set up in the very first movie. They flirted! I even would have accepted The Duel of the Fates script with a poe romance if it would have been done well, or even finnpoe.
Instead, we had our main female character risking it all for Kylo in the Last Jedi, which, in canon, is three days post The Force Awakens, after Kylo slashed Finn in the back with a lightsaber so close to his spine that it’s absolutely amazing he isn’t paralyzed.
What if Finn had died? Has anyone ever thought of that? He was in a coma at the end of tfa. People die from injuries while in a coma all the time. Let’s say Kylo threw everything down to come with Rey at the end of tlj. How would that go if they arrived and leia and poe had to break it to Rey, “yeah, finn’s fucking dead, man. Sorry.” Is Rey just supposed to be cool with that and let Kylo go on his merry way? Perhaps date him after that?
There are legitimate reylo fans who believe that Kylo should have lived at the end of tros and went back to the resistance with Rey to have a family and live happily ever after. Just… be pardoned for all his crimes. They really believe that Rey should worship the ground Kylo walks on to the point where she would bring him back to Finn, who he almost killed, and poe, who he tortured, and have her steadfastly defend him against her two friends.
It just—infuriates me so much. We really could have had it all. But certain parts of the fandom made it all about Kylo Ren, to the point where it didn’t just retract from the trio; it also retracted from Rey’s character herself.
Sorry if I ranted. You just have some awesome takes and I’m thinking again about the sequels and the potential they had, lol.
Aw, I really appreciate your kind words. But unfortunately, I don't have any behind the scenes information for you.
I do think, based on the end of the Last Jedi, that Kylo was set up as the big bad. And this may be projection, but I don't get the sense that JJ Abrams really wanted to write Kylo's redemption. The man's written morally ambiguous characters before in his career, and pulled off more dubious redemption arcs. I think he could have sold Kylo's arc better, if he really wanted to.
I haven't read the comics and I honestly don't care about them. They've never been that relevant to my mind, when it comes to evaluating Kylo as a character. My own take is that, whether or not he was to blame for the temple's destruction, he had options besides joining a regime that's obviously a Nazi-allegory, that enslaves children and commits genocide. I judge him by the decisions we see him make on screen, and those are pretty damning.
That said, I mostly enjoyed Rise of Skywalker. Kylo's redemption didn't work for me, but we also saw him die and that made me happy. Rey had an ambiguous moment that might or might not have been romantic. I don't think that's enough to ruin her. At almost forty, I have an old person's cynicism: young people sometimes fall for the wrong people. In my eyes, it's more important that Rey gets a happy ending with the people she actually loves: Finn and Poe. And TROS gave me that.
It's okay to be dissatisfied with the movies, and I'm always in favor of folks ranting about what makes them unhappy. But it's also okay to move on. The Star Wars Universe has a lot of lovely material right now, and more to come. Perhaps there'll be something more to your taste if you give it a chance?

lets get controversial! For the character bingo flamey beard man, Endeavor himself!
whoops
Tumblr media
so i don’t like him. i think his redemption arc could’ve worked in another world, and i haven’t caught up on s6 yet so i don’t know exactly what he’s like at the moment, but…yeah no.
i don’t think i have to rehash all the todoroki kids’ childhoods and why that’s baaaad. we all know. i absolutely hate him for what he did to rei—talking about the mental hospital, specifically. the stuff that led to it, sure, but mostly the fact that he put her there not because she needed help (she did), but because she hurt his Precious Creation. and just leaves her there. for over a decade. no.
also, he says he wants to be a better dad and then never really does it. and look, if he was trying, he would be allowed to make mistakes. i would love to see that kind of messy complicated relationship. but i don’t, really? it feels very tell-y. everyone Says he’s trying and Says they’re starting to forgive him, but all i see is him texting shouto repeatedly and getting no response and being very angry about it (after he had to get his number from fuyumi, btw. nice boundary crossing and harassment, dude, very making amends of you. i wonder WHY your fifteen year old kid went no-contact).
i also don’t like how he acts with other people just like, in general. i’m not sure if i actually think he has a god complex but he definitely does not give off “listens to others” vibes. but he is a Good Hero, which is a very interesting. thing. to me. is duality the word?
so yeah tldr i’m not a fan but i do think dabi traumatizing his dad back is VERY funny. one time in a fic i had shouto murder him bc i thought it would be fun. i know there’s probably fics out there that give him an actually good redemption arc and that’s awesome but i do not want to read them.
god i do love shouto’s reaction to his making amends, though, even though i feel like it’s unearned. the scene where he fights the nomu and after it’s done shouto just…crouches down on the floor? idk what emotion he’s portraying but i Feel It. and the whole mess of “i hate him but he is the best person to teach me what i need to know.” and the growth of “you can train me but it’s on MY terms now.” hell yeah. while i’m on the subject i actually love all the todoroki kids’ reactions bc they’re all so different and they all make sense. i’m p sure i’m interpreting the “holds their family together” square wrong but i am. i am hugging all of the siblings + rei. and kicking endeavor into the street.
OH ONE MORE THING: i do think he’s a very interesting parallel to bakugou especially since he’s a top hero. he’s a much better hero than bakugou is, at least in the beginning, but he’s a far worse person with a worse redemption arc. i think he serves as a good warning for him. very cool

I finished For The Future and it's good! But ALL BETS ARE OFF I'M POSTING SPOILERS AND THOUGHTS. (Also its super long like has 20 different points)
Written plotpoint wise and then in general.
-The tone at first was insanely confusing with everyone dying and then then Hooty flying and Eda almost immediately getting over her missing limb (well ig the cliffhanger made it look more dramatic). Also haha hot Harpy Eda scene, fan artists are winners.
-The curse actually wasn't explored that much (or the Owl Beast being trapped which I'm really annoyed at) but it seems to act similarly.
-Luz totally saw King's slightly grown up form with the wings.
-It's depressing seeing literally everyone screwed up but that makes sense and I do like how everyone gets a spotlight on their issues.
-Ok Belos is SUPER cool this episode. Tbh I found him more weird/slightly funny looking last episode but I like how this 350 year old man's flesh is falling off the bones. Also that's definitely dead Caleb we saw this episode and probably last (very cool but the knife looked a little funky dangling there)
-The broken playground and swing, nice Episode 10 reference. Also the graffiti is always funny.
-Lol screw you Terra you got picked to be the Owl Beast bc you're old and cranky. I can't believe her not being in the trailer was for this.
-That Draining Spell is literally only a kill everyone spell, ok? I mean it would have been interesting seeing them try to adapt without any magic but sure (also ig there wouldn't be time)
-Boscha you still suck! Also I can't believe my brother guessed the Kikimora reveal, I was like red skin, short, that's too easy. But looking back, the voice, the glasses. Ok I see it.
-Yeah no redemption all the Grimwalkers/Caleb want to kill Belos. Also lol I joked that he would say shut up to them and I guessed it right.
-Also not really surprised his Grimwalker body didn't last, like you're running out of resources. Still not sure why it still ended up looking like you. Also I was spoiled on him climbing up the skull so I was jumpscared by that scene AND it being a spoiler!
-I liked the visuals of the giant book circling around the tiny planet. Also Collector I know you can rhyme better come on.
-I have no idea what's up with the Collector portraits (hey Hollow Mind parallels). I'll let others dissect it but I found the lore kind id underwhelming like last time but I'm a terrible theorist and time crunch so eh. Also repeat images?
-Literally the entire Hooty and Eda scene was recontextualized to be weirdly more chill and cheery. Like Hooty is alive, why and also why immediately joke about it being weird?I'm not sure how their hideout works but hey there's some peace? Also you're killing me Eda please be with Raine oh my god! Also Eda saying "What's the matter?" made me want to cry, she sounded like a mom comforting her kid! And she said it so kind and softly!
-Ok I was pissed at the Hunter possession bc I thought it was fake/looked dumb. This feels random and weird. Belos possessing a puppet, really? I swear it's like "Huh screw Eda I'm gonna use Raine". But they look better off than Hunter (also why the goop on the ears, like injuiry from a piercing?) Ok but they(?) have cool expressions and their normal voice and mostly look the same and I doubt they'll die (otherwise it's that Diversity Loss meme. I'll pretend they'll die so I don't feel as bad/disappointed if it happens). I don't know why we're doing this again, pattern breaking says they must go but don't they have too much potential?
-Ok this possession concept feels kinda written badly? It's only introduced last episode and you're gonna convince me Belos can actually possess the Collector? Please! Also in general I don't like possessions as they take away the person's choice and creates limited character development for them.
-I've got beef with the Collector (who I now realize is probably different from the Owl Beast trapper but still), I don't like how it's not acknowledged that he was fine with killing everyone. King is nothing like that and I don't like how this Collector feels different from the more scary and dangerous shadow Collector we've seen the most from. It doesn't make sense they're supposed to be the same! Also they'll probably depower him simce he's too powerful (I wonder if doing this will make Collectors extinct.)
-Someone else probably articulated it better but I like the spotlight on Willow, how holding in her emotions to be strong for everyone ends up making her spiral out of control and how Gus and Hunter tell her she can let it out. It's really sad seeing her miss her dads but I'm glad it's acknowledged.
-Yay Camilla and Luz time! Yeah, it's sad how they both have regrets but I'm glad they're reconciling and Camilla is righting her wrongs. Also Luz's wish makes so much sense and I love the anime like tears. (Also yeah her saying she doesn't know what she wants definitely fits Amity given a predetermined path)
-For the teleportation powers Hunter gets, ehh but I do like the action is brings. Also YEAH new plant attacks Willow!
-Also literally calling out every single guess and putting it all in one. I like the Chinese dragon looking one. The designs all kinda look like OCs but it fits and it'll probably grow on me. Also 80% snake for the win!
Bruh the animation looks so good! Honestly mostly the effects but also the scattered fight scenes as well! I like how it goes from whimsy to body horror (would've liked more but eh Belos takes an L)
Tbh the pacing was kinda off since there was the school, King and Eda, and Raine being posessed. It felt weird because it didn't even really feel right for a cliffhanger. Hey who's fault is it (Disney)
Ok compared to Thanks to Them (which I really didn't like and don't want to rewatch due to the Belos possession) this is leagues better. No doubt because questions are answered, things are different and we get to see them again! Effects/fights/body horror/character design is good, I really like the character development and them coping with this nightmare, and others than the Raine thing/unavoidable pacing issues (this feels like similar issues to the first episode) it's super good!

Okay listing my changes if I were to rewrite morgana, somewhat canon compliant bc I think abt her. A lot. I have not been around to menace on tumblr so have this rant I wrote up a week or so ago + I wrote some extra stuff
-explore her negative feelings more, her guilt and belief that she’s a monster and also her desire for acceptance, also interesting if they incorporated that into a conquering of the social sphere (like just making her so2 lol, I do think she’s actually so2 but like making her a more obvious one, jk I don’t think she is anymore). Like I just want to see her love need explored more,, I actually really like how the crystal cave episode explores this, she’s rejected by uther as his daughter and this is what breaks her (interestingly Katie McGrath said in an interview that this was morgana’s turning point and that she genuinely believed if she has accepted she wouldn’t have gone down the path she did). I’m also watching nge (neon genesis evangelion) and the character exploration on that show is top tier, like I love deep dives into a character’s psyche. honestly just wanted to mention it bc I love it
-don’t throw away the friendship established w gwen and Merlin (okay I can understand Merlin bc he literally poisoned her lol) ,, like not just bc I’m a loud morgwen shipper but just bc they genuinely loved and cared for each other but the show throws that all away, more doubt over her choices due to the ppl she cares abt. Or at least make her turn against them feel more personal than just seeing them as obstacles to get past (like if gwen is killed she will never be queen, like dawg she was ur best friend for years).
-don’t make the entire turn of her character off screen, like if ur going to make her evil,,, actually show a good progression,, than just unwillingly “evil” and clearly shaken by the unintentional consequences of her actions to just “yeah Camelot needs to burn I need to become queen and who cares about innocent ppl”. Like you can sorta infer what happens in her time with morgause, she manipulates morgana in her poor mental state, feeding on her feelings of betrayal, pushing the idea she’s the only one she can trust all that stuff, but from a viewer standpoint it seems too sudden, like she became so intensely ruthless?
-I honestly really would’ve loved to see her have a divide, where she realizes that what morgause pushed on her, this idea of becoming queen and realizing this is not what she wanted at all. I want more internal conflict and polarity. I would’ve loved morgana having a internal crisis lol, maybe even a proper redemption arc
-a shower thought but in the dark tower episode it would’ve been so chilling if she dresses up or emulates as what she looked like in earlier season to sell the idea of “we’re friends gwen” + bc she’s more desperate for her than I am for my perfect partner and I’m sx5,,, but there’s some logistical issues and I’ve decided to stop minding her hair (Okay this one fic actually addressed the metaphorical implications of her hair in s4/5 fuck it was so good) bc I love a 4F girlboss OR just have Gwen have a vision of her (which I’ve seen done in fics AND IT’S SO COOL)
-make her even more snarky in earlier seasons I love snarky morgana
-also her sibling hood w Arthur do more than just acknowledge it a few times,,, they really should’ve kept in that scene where he asked what went wrong (the deleted dark tower scene). I do think it’s justifiable for her to resent him because she sees him as an extension of uther.
-my typology rants abt her are a whole separate spiel, anyways the world resentment was there y’all could’ve just made her a sp1 OR sx6. I also wish fi-ni sx4 was real. VELF morgana always stays winning, passive volition morgana is weird. Also sorta wish she wasn’t so2 bc SEE would’ve been cool too, but I’ll take EIEL
LOLOL old ignore all that she’s sx4 ESI IF(S)
-I just really wish she had a better through-line, like some thing that kept her arc consistent bc evaluating it as a whole it’s sorta a mess, and her motivations just feel so reduced by s5, to just I want Arthur dead lol <3, like ofc she’s not exactly in the best mental state but it feels shallow. I do wish they kept her maybe more morally gray with genuine idealism for a better world; resentment towards Camelot but still an inner conflict regarding her loved ones, all that. SHE COULD’VE BEEN A REALLY COOL SO7!!
I love her though anyways, ty for infinite brainrot

Dark Road spoilers below the cut!  (Mostly I’m just like...rambling about my thoughts and stuff, haha.)
I was surprised by how much I ended up really liking the main DR kids and their interactions?  They had a lot of really nice moments--especially in the Disney worlds.  (The scene with the magic carpet in Agrabah made me laugh, it was so silly, haha.)  And like--I really liked how they handled the Disney worlds in general!  They were really well integrated; I’d absolutely love to play through all of them in a console game.  (Or at least, with updated graphics.)
Also congrats to Hades for being one of the few characters in the series to actually acknowledge that these characters died.  Like, when everyone was saying the upperclassmen ‘disappeared,’ I figured they were just going to use euphemisms the whole time, but NOPE.  It stands out a lot in a series that’s normally pretty shy about actually using the term.
ALSO.  LORE.  Xehanort being able to feel other people’s emotions and take people’s hearts in and stuff was just--!!  It’s cool!!  It’s cool that it makes him even more of a foil to Sora!  And it’s neat that it’s implied there are others out there like that!  And then VEN, who was implied that Xehanort thought he was like...the ACTUAL chosen one.  (Please, Nomura...please can we have a Ven focused game...there is so much lore surrounding him, PLEASE.)  The stuff with Vanitas was also really interesting and actually somewhat encouraging?  Because the way he was written made him seem like he was...questioning things.  Like maybe Xehanort wasn’t entirely correct about him not being Ven’s darkness--either that, or that Vanitas was changing in some way.  It actually makes me somewhat hopeful we’ll get a Vanitas redemption!  (Though...I’m going to be careful about getting my hopes up too high, just in case.)
I said this already, but the after credits scene made me cry.  I am sad that Playernort is no longer a thing, because there were so many cool things that could’ve been done with that, but that absolutely didn’t stop me from getting emotional over the Player and the Union Leaders at the end.  (”They all seemed like they liked each other a lot”--YEAH.  YEAH, THEY DID, XEHANORT.)  Actually pretty happy we DID at least get confirmation that Xehanort and Ephemer are related, though.  What I’m worried about is what Xehanort said about Skuld reminding him of his mom.  Which, you know, could be a red herring, like Brain’s virus speech in UX, but STILL.  Narratively speaking, there’s nothing technically wrong with the choice to have Skuld stay behind and make, say, Ava Subject X, but from a personal standpoint...I’d be very sad.  I want Skuld to still be alive, please.  ...That said, I’ve also learned not to trust Nomura as far as I can throw him, so until we officially see Skuld again, I will be clinging to the ‘Skuld is Subject X’ theory for dear life.
Interesting that we didn’t officially see what happened to Scala, though the implications seem to be that it really was just...there weren’t enough Keyblade wielders left, and so they just...moved to a different world.  That was honestly not something I expected to be a correct prediction; I really thought we were going to watch Scala get destroyed.
BUT SPEAKING OF PREDICATIONS--I CALLED BRAGI BEING LUXU THE MOMENT WE GOT HIS NAME.  Luxu, we need to talk about why all of the people you’ve possess have VERY SIMILAR names.  Like...are you going for a theme?  Are you renaming your vessels and just don’t feel very creative so you’ve been making up things that are similar to ‘Brain’?  This doesn’t seem like it would work very well if you wanted to stay hidden.
The actual ending parts did end up feeling kind of rushed, though.  Which is fair, considering writing this stuff takes a lot of time, and then you also have to animate everything and--yeah.  I wish a lot of stuff around the ending could’ve been built up more, but I understand why it probably ended up the way it did.  On that note--it also feels like it didn’t entirely tie everything off...?  Maybe that’s just me, but while the middle section felt pretty tight, the ending was definitely a bit...looser.  But, ah, again--probably a lot of that was the time constraints.  It probably would’ve helped to have a couple of more passes to focus around tightening up the ending stuff, but they probably just didn’t have the time for it.
Still largely a nice update!  There was some good stuff, and it was nice to get some more KH content...even if I feel like Nomura’s going to kill me with the lack of knowledge of what happened to Skuld.
