What if you were bones? If there was nothing else left of you?

No lungs filled with sweet laughter. No blood rushing to blushing cheeks. No skin grazing against mine when you twined our fingers together.

What if there was nothing left?

If I cradled your ribs in my palm, haunted by the ghost of your heartbeat? If I caressed the line of your ulna, almost able to feel the light brush of overlarge shirtsleeve dipping past your wrist? If the back of my knuckle skimmed the cheek of your skull, so sure I could still feel golden eyes staring so gently back at me through empty sockets?

(Mother said I'd have to watch everyone I loved pass on, but I was promised more time.)

(I walk out of step with the world, but you joined me with a gait all our own.)

(What is that if not a promise?)

What if there was nothing left but bones, yet I could still see the shape of you in the remains? If I handled every piece with the gentlest care, rebuilding you from the inside out? If I held each phalange tenderly in my palm, as if this were a new way you'd chosen to hold my hand?

(I was promised more time. Not enough, but more than this.)

Healing hurts. Magic weaving through meat and muscle and sinew, knitting together a wound before it's ready to let go. It's beautiful and necessary. The pain. Healing hurts. Living hurts. Loving hurts. Love beats in my heart my throat my hands my staff, bleeding like a gaping wound with every forbidden word spoken and ancient symbol sketched into stone.

If you need skin, blood, lungs, then you will have them. If you need flesh and meat and beating heart, I will build you them with my two bloodied hands. I will sculpt your bones a home from the carcass of a beast, breathe life into your hearth with dragonfire.

Healing hurts.

What if I didn't care who I hurt, if it meant having you again?

I think you can understand the sentiment.

And one day soon, when you look at me in the light above and give that gentle smile, I can't help but imagine hooking my fingers between the slats of your ribs and tugging you close enough to hear your heartbeat.

#kingdom hearts 0.2 birth by sleep a fragmentary passage #kh0.2 #depths of darkness #realm of darkness #my gif #they did a good job making the realm of darkness look distinct from the realm of light #because this place really does feel like nowhere we've ever been before #the rocky pathways with no sign of organic life make me feel like i'm on the moon or an alien planet #it's interesting how fallen worlds feel like they're all stitched together between areas like this #aqua can simply walk from place to place without needing a ship or keyblade glider to fly her to a new world #though who's to say how long it takes her to do all of that #as if the realm of darkness is one big ever growing expanse of land without any known boundaries between worlds #we know that all worlds used to be connected in the realm of light long ago and i'm guessing that's the case in the realm of darkness #it's never been split or fractured by keyblade wielders so it still follows its own rules and laws of nature #that'd be pretty interesting #we see this area start as a rocky wasteland that transitions into flat sandy terrain from the destiny islands #but you have to walk through a huge blinding light to get there first which is really unusual #it makes me think of how terra and aqua were guided to destiny islands by a bright light #and how destiny islands appears as a ball of light on the world select menu in bbs #but why portray it that way? we've been shown before what the world of destiny islands looks like from afar with the CoM world cards #and it's not like they even needed to include it on the world select screen in bbs because it's not a world you can even visit on your own #i don't know what it's all supposed to mean yet but #i believe the islands are more significant than we know at this time and this game continues to raise a lot of questions #it's certainly called 'destiny' islands for a reason

Phylum Round 1

Onychophora: Velvet Worms. This is the only phylum containing exclusively terrestrial members, although their ancestors can be traced back to the Cambrian shallow oceans. Onychophorans are ambush predators, moving with slow smooth steps to creep up on their prey. They have unique mucus glands on either side of their face which can spray jets of sticky slime, which effectively immobilizes their prey. Onychophorans have relatively complex brains, and some even live in social "packs" that live and hunt together. Many species in this phylum are ecologically vulnerable, threatened, or endangered.

Platyhelminthes: Flatworms. This phylum includes both colorful free-living members and more modest parasitic members. Free-living worms can be found in marine, freshwater, and even terrestrial environments. All flatworms are, of course, dorsoventrally flattened so their whole bodies can access oxygen from the outside, as they have no specialized circulatory system. Some flatworms are of interest to research in tissue regeneration, as they have the remarkable ability to completely regenerate a new body from a cut piece. Many classes within Platyhelminthes are exclusively parasitic, including flukes, tapeworms, schistosomes, and others. Most flatworms are hermaphroditic, and some larger marine species practice a ritual known as "penis fencing" to determine which worm's eggs will be fertilized.
