i realized the kallters wouldn't have had domesticated horses when they came to jorvik (because domesticated horses didn't exist yet) so they would have had to domesticate their own horses out of ancient wild jorvegian horses! which means kallter horses are entirely their own subspecies! no more of this kallters riding fjords junk. so here's some concept art for that

At last, we're here, my dear reader. After more than two years of sweat and tears, you and I are witnesses to this book's full release, the end that lays foundations to the fresh beginning of a bigger journey. I cannot express just how grateful I am to everyone who's been supporting me throughout this time, to each who wrote their lovely messages and useful advise that helped me keep improving with my every chapter. The road ahead doesn't look long, now - there's only some re-writing left, and then, I'm submitting this project to the judgement of Hosted Games. If we're lucky, this is but a step in a story that has not yet seen its rightful end.

Now that the long weekend has ended, I'll begin with my thorough re-read of the book, a re-write of some sloppy scenes and a proper check of stats and their effect on your experience, to make sure this game is enjoyable and worthy to be officially released. I thank you all again for your patience, for your support and love - I'll do my best to bring you a good final product.

Scales of Justice is a fantasy game situated in another world, far away from Earth. There are plenty of species living together in harmony, but the human race is currently split in two civilisations: the one known as Hero kingdom, which is ruled by ‘heroes’, and the one named Vannais kingdom, controled by ‘villains’. Both nations hate each other and the fight between ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ here is something that happens on a national level. The game is focused on lore, on character development and your own perception of reality: perhaps, your MC just wants to live a peaceful life... or maybe wants to save the world.

Or even rule it, if you’re into such things.

Shoren/Seile -> Heir to the Hero kingdom's throne, right where your journey starts. Also, your old friend who's very attached to you. Likes to read and practices magic, enjoys adventure and heroic deeds. A recognised “hero”, with blonde curly hair, pale skin and a pair of beautiful blue eyes.

Robert/Reina -> Order's Paladin, defender of Hero and Knight of Fate. Brave and honourable, determined to protect the people of the kingdom. Very loyal to friends and very dangerous as an enemy. Has short brown hair, tanned skin and an athletic build.

Valerius/Venis -> An Outworlder, who was caught by cultists from the Wicked Woods. Gracious, elegant and charismatic. Has long dark brown hair with a silver streak, olive skin and golden eyes.

Arion/Aria -> Leader of Vannais, a recognised “villain” who escaped from Hero and now rules the enemy kingdom. Serious, reserved but temperamental. Prefers action over words and so is always present on battlefields and amidst negotiations, even though never in official manner. Has short blonde hair, pale skin and emerald eyes.

Be careful! These characters have their thoughts and opinions on the world and your actions: if you want them to support you, convince them or take their side… or neither. That is your choice after all!

Do you answer every question? Or are there some you just delete bc it doesn't quite fit the lore/vibe/idk?

I do not. I tried to, way back at the beginning! There was a brief period of time where I could at least get my inbox down to under ~100! A very brief period of time. A few days, max. I don’t believe it’s dipped below 2k in several years now. I'm not sure it would be possible to answer everything, just with regards to volume alone.

Honestly, though, what convinced me it wasn't a good idea even if it was possible was one ask a few weeks in suggesting all non-binary people were fae, eg. nonhuman. I genuinely believe it was well-intentioned, just short-sighted about the implications. But it opened my eyes as to why publishing every single ask I ever received wasn't a good or responsible idea. I'm certainly not perfect, and this entire blog has been a learning process, but I do want this to be a world that feels welcoming to engage with. That means, by necessity, exercising some discernment, and doing my best not publish asks that could be hurtful. I'm also not comfortable answering asks along the lines of 'what do the fae think of this mental illness/disability/trauma'; I'm jsut not equipped to do that kind of question justice, especially not as a blanket statement about the world.

In general, and on a lighter note, I ask that asks/submissions be at least vaguely related to elsewhere u and/or the fae. For the most part everyone's really good about that, and I think I'm fairly easygoing with what that actually entails. But there are a few things, like literally just straight up WOTC DnD, or demonology, or lore about OC religious pantheons, which I don't care to incorporate into the world. And unfortunately most of the time I get to asks about the latest tumblr meme du jour, it's cold in the ground - something like 'help the plinko horse is in the library what do???' is not going to be popping out of the queue in 2024.

(The website itself also poses some problems, which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone reading this on said website. One quirk of the inbox at this capacity is that sometimes asks just. Simply do not show up, at random. Occasionally I’ll refresh the inbox and get, for example, a new ask four down from the top which simply was not there the last time I looked at the five newest asks. That's always exciting.)

i love how tumblr just decided one day what my interests are

like for a while after i managed to curate my feed nicely it was all silly musical stuff, but then camp here and there arrived and was a trojan horse, hiding a bunch of silly guys: tma, tmp, welcome to nightvale, alice isnt dead...

and also i find it neat that my feed is entirely time dependent. during the day (for me) its entirely hatchetblr rps and stimboards and such, but as soon as night falls all the other roleplayers recede into their caves to sleep or do whatever it is they do.. and then the silly guys come out. mostly my chnt related mutuals for some reason, random posts taken from twitter that seem to have gotten a bit lost and ended up in my little corner, and posts that are just like 'i like women' and thats it. thats the whole post. and i smile to myself and go 'same, buddy' and keep scrolling.

anyway i know 0 things about the magnus archives and related works but tumblr decided its my favorite thing ever. and. yknow what. maybe it will be. one day. (probably not i have trouble getting into podcasts, especially ones that are as lore heavy (i assume) and as long as tma. ive pretty much only ever listened to chnt and a couple episodes of nightvale, but i think the reason i was able to get into camp here and there is i could binge it in 2-3 days, that way i dont loose track of too much of the lore. whereas with longer shows i just. cant. my attention span says no thanks)

Now for how does content work, you are the algorithm. You follow people you want. You can also follow tags to help find stuff you are interested in. Tumblr kinda pushes "stuff you may like" or "based on your likes" and they will show you other blogs similar to blogs you follow but ultimately it is up to you.

Also you can nearly post anything (no porn allowed but you can still find it if you know where to look) you can have funny chats on comments, reblogs, or DMs if you are lucky.

There is deep lore and secret speech on this site as well that does change slightly with time. IMO, the most important is you find another Tumblr user (or Tumblrina) in the wild, the code is "I like your shoelaces" and the response is "thanks, I stole them from the president."

Otherwise, just find what you like, find your blorbos, rotate them in your mind, send them to eeby deeby by throwing down horse plinko after learning about color theory and their favorite color of the sky and have fun.

They have an official Tumblr blog. Their two most popular videos apart from fan edits of other bands are horse plinko memes. They were friends (in their mind) with Frank (@nostalgebraist-autoresponder). They share their anniversary with Welcome to Night Vale and Gravity Falls, both of which they love.

They even put "hear it hurgling" in their lyrics: "Reddish tar bubbling / Over the eyelids / Hear it hurgling / Lest violet flames lash thee, / Do as it bids / Sacrifice" - that one part in the hul

The hul hasn’t been posted yet but oké, I’ll bear that in mind.

Yamamba/Yamauba from Japanese folklore.

Depending on the text and translator, the Yamauba appears as a monstrous crone, “her unkempt hair long and golden white, her kimono filthy and tattered”, with cannibalistic tendencies.

Yamauba is said to have a mouth at the top of her head, hidden under her hair. In one story it is related that her only weakness is a certain flower containing her soul.

In the tales, the ones attacked by yamauba are typically travelers and merchants, such as ox-drivers, horse-drivers, coopers, and notions keepers, who often walk along mountain paths and encounter people in the mountains, so they are thought to be the ones who had spread such tales.

Yamauba have been portrayed in two different ways. There were tales where men stocking ox with fish for delivery encountered yamauba at capes and got chased by them,as well as a tale where someone who was chased by the yamauba would climb a chain appearing from the skies in order to flee, and when the Yamauba tried to make chase by climbing the chain too, she fell to her death into a field of buckwheat.

On the other hand, there were tales such as the Nukafuku Komefuku, where two sisters out gathering fruit met a Yamauba who gave treasure to the kind older sister (who was tormented by her stepmother) and gave misfortune to the ill-mannered younger sister. 

According to one tale, once upon a time, a Buddhist priest was caught out in a storm but luckily passed by a lonely hut. A kind old woman invited him inside, welcoming him with food and a warm fire. As welcoming as she was, she gave the priest a strange warning: “No matter what, do not look in the back room.”  Unable to overcome his curiosity, the priest failed to heed the old woman’s warning. As soon as she stepped out to gather more firewood, the priest peeped through a crack in the door. To his horror, he discovered the room filled with half-eaten corpses. The priest realized that the old woman was a Yamamba, luring unsuspecting travelers into her home. The priest fled never to look back again.

What we know about Oz: Book 1, the first two witches

[NOTE: This post was originally at the beginning of my What we know about Oz series, but somehow I forgot to post it on Tumblr... so here it is, very late.]

In today’s piece, we will study what this first book offers us about the four Witches of Oz! We will begin with the two Witches present at the beginning of this book – the Northern and the Eastern ones. # We will begin with the Good Witch of the North (or rather the Witch of the North as the narration says. She says she is good and that “people love her”, and later the characters call her the Good Witch of the North, but in her first chapters she is merely called the Witch of the North). She is the one that welcomes Dorothy in the land of the Munchkins, and mostly acts as a “plot prop”, being here only to begin the quest and offer an exposition about Oz – in fact, in the latter books Baum will barely use or mention her again. We know that she is the Witch connected to the North (still unnamed at the time, but that she calls her “home”), and we also know that the Munchkins sent her a swift messenger upon learning of the Wicked Witch death – this is why she is already on the scene when Dorothy gets out, she says she came as fast as she could. And in fact, her presence in the Munchkin country is quite weird… You see, the other three Witches in this book are shown to stay inside their respective lands, unwilling or unable to move. The Witch of the North is the only one seen actually travelling through Oz and going to a region that is not her own. This may be due to the very strong associated between the Witch of the North and the Munchkins. She calls herself the “friend” of the Munchkins, despite insisting that she lives in the North and isn’t a Munchkin herself, and she says she would have set the Munchkins free herself if he could – she also reveals that she was not as powerful as the Wicked Witch of the East, already establishing a sort of “hierarchy” between the four Witches. To return to the Munchkin parallels, the Witch is also said to be the same size as the Munchkin men (even though she is noted to be much older, with a “face covered in wrinkles”, hair “nearly white” and walking rather “stiffly”), and wearing a hat identical to them, but white. I already mentioned before that in this book, everyone is the size of Dorothy, so her being the same size as the Munchkins isn’t so surprising – as for her wearing the same hat as the Munchkins… well, the original illustrations for the book had all the Ozians wear some sort of pointy hats, with different brims and sizes depending on which regions they come from, so… A theory I have is that the Witch actually wears this hat to show her friendliness towards the Munchkin, the same way that Dorothy wearing blue is seen by the Munchkins as a sign of friendliness towards them. It should also be noted that Baum had no idea of what the North would look like at this point in the series – so as a result, no idea on how to distinguish the Witch. Another sign of the strong link between the Munchkins and the Northern Witch: their first reaction upon learning of the Wicked Witch death was to send a messenger to the Good Witch. In terms of appearance, I already mentioned the Good Witch’s age. She is also said to wear, outside of her white hat, a “white gown that hung in pleats from her shoulders. Over it were sprinkled little starts that glistened in the sun like diamonds”.  And yes, in the original book, the Witch of the North had no name, just like the two Wicked Witches. However, if you dig a bit in the current lore, you will find two different names for her. One is “Tattypoo” – this name was invented by Ruth Plumly Thompson, the second “official Oz author” that took on the Oz series after Baum’s death. It comes from the book “The Giant Horse of Oz” which gives a backstory to the Witch of the North, however a backstory that is not liked or admitted by everyone. The other name you may hear of is “Locasta” – this name was actually given by Baum himself to the character! But it was when he adapted himself the Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a musical theater play, something not many people know of, hence why this name is less famous. I personally consider Locasta to be her canon name. Now… The Witch of the North explains that she is “not as powerful” as the Wicked Witch of the East, yet she still has some powers that are pretty impressive. For example, to leave Dorothy’s presence, she magically teleports – she whirls around on her left heel three times and disappears. The idea of her being able to teleport herself explains why she could come so quickly from her home in the North, and it also fits with the idea of how she is the only Witch seen travelling in Oz – there is something of fastness, of movement to her. She also shows another one of her powers to help Dorothy – she “takes off her cap and balances it at the end of her nose, while counting “One, two, three!” in a solemn voice”. The hat then turns into a slate on which is written “LET DOROTHY GO TO THE CITY OF EMERALDS” – to which the Witch asks if the girl is named Dorothy, and then says that she must go to the City of Emeralds, no question asked. This power seems to be a sort of prophetic ability, almost as if the Witch was an oracle or a seer. I wonder if she can do it with objects other than her hat… But her most powerful spell is the one of her kiss. As she says it herself, she uses “all of the magic arts (she) knows of” to do such a ritual – she simply kisses Dorothy on her forehead, but this kiss is extremely powerful. It leaves a round shining mark on Dorothy’s skin, and “no one will dare injure a person who has been kissed by the Witch of the North”. This is very useful when Dorothy later has to confront the higher powers of Oz – the Wizard knows of the effect of the kiss, the Winged Monkeys, despite being ordered to get rid of her, can’t harm the little girl, and even the Wicked Witch of the West finds herself unable to hurt her in any ways due to the shining mark. So yeah… she may not be the strongest of the Witches, but she can still teleport, deliver prophecies and protect anyone from all sorts of harm. Even though the exact limitation of this Kiss’ powers can be discussed… Indeed, the Kiss makes sure that no being would dare harm Dorothy. But it doesn’t protect her from natural or accidental deaths, it just makes people uninclined to attack her willingly or consciously… Plus, there is also the fact that the Kalidahs attacked the group… but maybe they just didn’t saw the mark, or are too bestial and animals for the Witch’s power to work on them? Edit: I forgot to add one little intriguing detail about this Witch... She explicitely says that she can't go with Dorothy on her journey, but doesn't explain why. Leaves room for a lot of theories - maybe she has some business to attend in the North? Or maybe she made a pact with the Wizard to never approach his territory? Who knows... # The second Witch we meet – or rather, we meet her feet – is the Wicked Witch of the East, one of the most famous corpses of literature. Let’s see what we know about her… We know that she ruled over the East of Oz, and held the Munchkins in “bondage” for “many years”, making them “slaves for her, day and night” – the exact meaning of this never explained. Her reign apparently wasn’t much detrimental to the country itself, given that when Dorothy arrives the land it looks like a true heaven on earth – except if you consider the theory that the Witch was responsible for the “dangerous” part of the Munchkin country. (And no, the Wicked Witch of the West wasn’t her sister. I’ll say it again, in the original book the Witches are not related.) We don’t see much of her body, outside of her two feet sticking out from under the house of Dorothy… feet apparently quite small, since the Silver Shoes fit perfectly the little girl (but again, in this book everyone is the size of Dorothy – even though it became a common idea, in many Oz adaptations, such as the comic book adaptation, that the Witches of the North and the East are small while the Witches of the South and West are tall, the Good and Wicked mirroring each other). However we don’t even see much of these feet, because soon after being hit by the house they turn to dust. The Witch of the North laughs at that, explaining that “she was so old that she dried up quickly in the sun”. Which seems to imply that the sun was the Witch’s weakness, turning her to dust much like the WWW melts with water (in fact both of the Wicked Witches are noticed to be “dried up” somehow). Even though the Munchkin Country is actually quite sunny, so it may not be that. Maybe she just dried up only after her death… but we know at least that the Wicked Witch was very old, apparently older than the Witch of the North herself. We have a bit more information about her thanks to the Tin Man’s backstory. In it, we learned that the guardian of the Tin Man’s fiancée made a bargain with the Witch, offering her two sheep and a cow in exchange of having the Tin Man rid of. This indicates to us that the Wicked Witch was quite “accessible” and that people could actually pay her wicked services, or at least make bargains with her. Now why would she want a cow and two sheep? This is unknown… Like many things about her: we don’t know why she was standing in the middle of a pretty field, we don’t know what she looked like, we don’t know what her house or castle looked like… Maybe she wanted these beasts to eat? It seems that in a lot of adaptations the Wicked Witch of the East has a strong association with eating… (In Volkov’s version she forces Munchkins to gather for her dreadful beasts to feast on such as spiders, toads and other worms; in the Muppets movie she threatens a Munchkin to put him in her microwave, and in The Black Brick Road to Oz she is reimagined as a childish and overweight glutton with cannibalistic tendencies that turned her country into a land of living candies…). This theory could explain what exactly was the “bondage” of the Munchkins in the book – we see that in current days they are apparently exclusively made of farmers, with all the wood choppers gone, and with no town or village but just an array of little farms… Maybe she forced them to cultivate fields and grow crops for her to feast on? But all of this is theory, mind you. To return to the Tin Man’s backstory, the Witch was actually paid to prevent this marriage from happening by getting rid of the woodchopper somehow, and she first did it by enchanting his axe so that it would turn against him and cut his leg. As a result it seems she isn’t for killing people outright, preferring to make him unable to practice his job and thus earn money – or maybe she just likes mutilating people. However, the woodman got a brand new leg… the Witch, being forced to held her end of the deal, had his other leg cut… but he got another leg, and the narration actually mentions that the Witch started to take it personally, refusing to have someone defy her spells and her curses. It seems that she was a very bad loser, unable to stand defeat. The final trait of the Wicked Witch of the East is certainly her most defining – the Silver Shoes. (And yes, they are Silver Shoes in the original book, not Ruby Slippers). Pointy shoes made out of silver but apparently quite comfortable. They are the MacGuffin of the book: everybody knows they are powerful, and yet nobody knows exactly how. The Witch of the North gives them to Dorothy, insisting that since she had killed the Witch, it was now hers to wear – without adding anything else. Maybe this is some strange magical rule, or a law among Witches? The one to defeat a Witch can obtain her most powerful magical item? After all, when Dorothy killed the Wicked Witch of the West, the coincidences led her straight to the Golden Cap… But when given the Shoes, the North Witch doesn’t mention anything about magic – it seems she ignores their powers, even though she doesn’t outright say it. The Munchkins know that they have a powerful “charm” connected to them, and that the Wicked Witch was “proud” of these shoes, but none of them exactly knew what was said charm. The Witch of the North probably knows as much as the Munchkins, given how a “good friend” of them she is. The Wizard of Oz is also afraid of the Silver Shoes, even though he also ignores their power. The Wicked Witch of the West is actually terribly afraid of the Shoes and their powerful charm, to the point she is tempted to flee before Dorothy – she only calms down when she realizes that Dorothy doesn’t know how to use the Shoes. She also plans to steal them because the charm of the Shoes will apparently give her more power than any other army or magical item she owned previously – which seems to establish that the Wicked Witch of the East was actually more powerful than the one of the West. This is why she tries to steal them, and no, there is no rule that “you must kill the wearer of the Shoes to take them off”, in the book you can take them whenever they are off the wearer’s foot, and the Witch is unable to steal them only because of a series of bad coincidences (as well as the North Witch’s Kiss). The only one that is aware AND willing to talk of the Shoes power is actually Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. She says that they have “wonderful powers” in plural, but only mentions the “most curious” of them all – they can carry their wearer in any place of the world, if the wearer klick their heels together three times and command the shoes to carry them wherever they wish to go. Then the wearer only has to take three steps, and they will be there. As for the other powers of the Shoes they remained unknown, because Dorothy lost them in the Great Desert when she came back to Kansas (there seems to be a rule in this book that the “things that belong to Oz can’t leave Oz” or at least can’t get pass the Desert). However this left a huge opportunity for many adaptations to add all sorts of wonderful powers to these little artefacts… Making the disabled walk, break the fingers of Wicked Witches, or even basically making every wish come true, if enunciated the right way…

IKR!? That would be the coolest thing ever--TS2 has aged extraordinarily well, considering it’s a 20+ year old game. All it needs is modern meshes/textures and graphics, and updated pop culture references--the gameplay is arguably better than TS3; its neighborhoods are pretty great; the lore is iconic, and the TS2 community is still thriving to this day. A TS1/TS2 remake would be the best thing for The Sims franchise, rather than making TS5. The Resident Evil 2 remake was outstanding. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 7′s remake wasn’t all it was hyped up to be, and they took it in what many feel is the WRONG direction. So simmers would have to hope EAxis wouldn’t eff up and like, remove any of TS2′s features; just add to what’s already there (TS3′s CASt & Story Progression, TS4′s build mode, Freeplay’s venues, etc).

PREACH! Greenplumboblover singlehandedly proved that simmers can create whatever the heck we want, given the know-how. I can’t wait to see what else the community comes up with (I want peacocks, just saying 🦚). It just goes to show that EA is lazy AF--ONE PERSON created a farm animal from scratch in their free time, for free, and I bet it didn’t take GPL 6 whole years to make them, the way it took EA 6 years to convert the chickens and cows from TS3 to TS4 for $40. 🙄 #EAYouSuck

Maybe try making custom made bird cages to fit their bodies? Maybe that solve the size issue? Cool idea regardless tho.

This is actually a neat solution, thank you! Using even the regular log-perch would definitely look better, agreed. My main concern is the clipping when sims interact with the dragons though. They’re huge when sims hold them, and constantly clip right through their heads.

Granted, even my bunny rabbits clip through heads when sims snuggle them, but it’s not 100% of the time (more like 75%, pfft).

But my dragons are downright unplayable at the size they are, which makes no sense, cuz I didn’t resize the meshes at all! They snap back to their regular size in-between every animation, and I have no clue why, cuz all I did was swap the meshes/textures--this makes no frikkin sense. 😩

SCALES OF JUSTICE - CHAPTER 3 UPDATE!!

Hello, strangers!! Guess who has finished at last the 3rdchapter of Scales of Justice, “Secretos Dados!! Despite being longer than I ever expected it to be, I’m super proud to say that this new part of SoJ ended up being much more exciting than originally planned.

Scales of Justice is a fantasy game situated in another world, far away from Earth. There are plenty of species living together in harmony, but the human race is currently split in two civilisations: the one known as Hero kingdom, which is ruled by ‘heroes’, and the one named Vannais kingdom, controled by ‘villains’. Both nations hate each other and the fight between ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ here is something that happens on a national level. The game is focused on lore, on character development and your own perception of the world: perhaps, your MC just wants to live a peaceful life... or maybe wants to save the world.

Welcome to the Kingdom of the Carouselians~! Allow me to tell you of our background~

Here, in the middle of a dense forest, lies a large, plain valley. In this valley, a hidden city called, “The Kingdom of the Carousels” abides. Those that mainly abide in this kingdom are called, “The Dimension Travellers”, or mostly, “The Carouselians”.We call our land “The City of Carousels” and it’s people “Carouselians because our dearest belongings that allow us to create dimensions are Carousels.

What does the Carousel do you ask? It grants us the ability to travel between timelines. Yes, it seems we may have the power to change time, but not to worry, for that isn’t the case~! 

~

For every time we travel, a new dimension is created to avoid hindering the real world. This newly created dimension is an exact replica of the real one, but with little perks and slight changes. You and I, are replicated into that dimension. That youngster brushing his horse? He is replicated as well. For your memories, they remain intact. Not a single thought is changed. We Carouselians only create newer worlds to change our thoughts and actions. Although the Carousel grants us the ability to change your thoughts, we Carouselians are always mindful and hinder nothing that could cause damage to your dimensional self’s life.

"Wayward Creation Station" Discord Server

So for a couple of years, I’ve been running a Discord server for Content Creators who are ages 18+. I started it right after tumblr changed their NSFW policies, so i could give writers a place to just be. The main focus is fic writing, but other content creators are allowed and encouraged to join!

Well, I am happy to announce that Wayward Creation Station also has a sister server, Wayward Mentor Creation Station, for mentoring younger kids (13+) just starting out in the creative community. In order to join the second, you have to be a member of the first (or be a member of @thinkwritexpress-official’s Discord server). So this post is about sharing information on Wayward Creation Station and all that it can offer. Please join us! (invite link is inbedded in the server title)

Below is a list of all the available categories, and the channels within them. All NSFW channels, channels that contain heavy subject matters, and channels that contain spoilers, are marked with an *asterisk.

Each fandom category contains two channels, except Disney/Marvel, which often has three. The first channel is always about the shows/movies - theories, headcanons, what the actors are up to, conventions, etc. The second channel is always about the lore and established canon. In the Disney/Marvel category, each time a new movie comes out, a new channel is added. Once some time has passed, it will be retired, and then everyone can talk about it freely in the main channel. This allows others who haven’t seen the new movies to still participate in the main Disney/Marvel channel without being spoiled too badly.

Yugioh S4 Ep 18 pt 1: California Public Transit can Take you to Hell, but it Can’t Take You to the Freakin Mall

Apparently Tumblr did an update, joining the throng of techie websites that chose a godawful very open and round sans fontface that creates a hell ton of white-space.

Not quite sure why every website feels like they must make all websites look like a mobile site. I do enjoy having a dark mode now and that’s nice, but man...I miss the bold font we used to have for titles on text files. Really told you “this is a title.”

Not like it matters since y’all are reading this on my own blog where I have control of how it looks, but man...that awful typeface where there kerning is nice for short stuff but just...too wide for serious reading. It’s everywhere I go.

And speaking of bad kerning, like I saw this ad for a gym that was called “49ERSFIT” (because that’s our football team, in case you don’t know) but the kerning was reallllllly narrow so I looked at it and all I could see was “49ERSHIT” and like...I can’t unsee it. I can never unsee that.

Anyways, enough about how I’m haunted by font, lets talk about Yugi, who used to be haunted by Yami, up until he died this morning. So now Yami is just kicking it all on his own for a total of....maybe a few hours now, and has already destroyed an entire Caltrain, and whatever ecosystem was in this lake.

Seto Kaiba would be so proud.

Somewhere in the Ocean, or over the ocean, or...wherever the hell Atlantis is, Darts has decided that Pharaoh is NOT dead after all, and sends Rafael to finish the job, because youknow--Darts won’t move his lazy ass until all of his lackeys are fully dead. It’s an anime.

And then we have a jump cut to this tent scene. I don’t know how much time has passed. It’s suggested it’s enough time to fully sleep. So...a full day?

And Yugioh pulls the most unexpected plot turn out of their pocket because why not, it’s Season 4. This season is just about “how many strings can I pull and get away with” (I mean have you SEEN the Death Count lately?)

there’s a lot of things I expected out of this kids show.

This was never one of those things I thought I would see with my eyes--one of those things I could cap with my prt scr button, and one of those things I could paste into Photoshop and be like “wow this is really a thing that was made canon.”

Like for how long I had to cap this photo of Yami and Tea sharing a bed together, the people who made this show, spent THAT much longer having to animate it. What is just mindboggling about Yugioh, is that no one on the entire team was like “oh did we just...” and this set-up happens--and they treat it like NOTHING is happening.

Like, how is that humanly possible to write your flagship pairing into the same bed and then just not even recognize it? Like I get how it’s physically possible, I just watched it, but as a writer, as an artist, as someone who tells stories, how is it possible to resist poking fun at this?

Like the RESTRAINT on the Yugioh team, y’all.

I hope you enjoyed this trope that flashed on the screen for all of like...a minute. Lets throw a giant dog at it.

So fun fact, the Egyptian god that is shaped like a wolf is Wepwawet. He’s best known for guiding people through the underworld, which fits nicely into this episode. But, did the writers know that? Is that why Skye is here? To be a reference to Wepwawet? I have no idea. But this dog is here, and every time his eyes look directly into the camera they are drawn--a little bit wrong. Not as bad as when they drew horses, but wow they did not really enjoy drawing this dog’s eyes when it’s straight on.

As for Chris and old man in this episode, I don’t know where they got this outfit style from. It sure ain’t traditional Ohlone. It’s...I mean it’s what happens when you don’t do your research, honestly. And I get the sense that these two aren’t supposed to be any Native American tribe as recent as Ohlone, and might be Atlantean from things they say later in this episode, in regards to cards and the spirit realm or whatever--but uh...

...where did these outfits...come from? I just want to know their research. Chris has a 1920′s hat for some reason. The old man has a staff with poofy bits on it. He dresses more like a 1960′s hippie than he does an indigenous person. Questions. I have questions.

Chris leads us outside to where this old biblical-looking character is collecting all of Yugi’s dropped cards. No idea where Weevil’s went, including the card of his that currently contains his soul. Probably underneath that Caltrain somewhere.

What does Kaiba make these cards OUT OF?

Yami has decided, after this card shunned him once, that maybe it’s time to remove it from his deck.

(Pretty sure he did not decide to remove the Orichalcos, however, which is still in there, as we see later. Thing is, I just realized that Oricalchos would basically be Yugi’s soul, right? So maybe he just keeps it around for company? Takes it out occasionally and waves at it?)

Iron Heart kind of seems like that type of old guy who used to be a hippie and now teaches Physics to High Schoolers. I say this because I’ve had a couple of teachers a lot like Iron Heart where like you’d look at them and it’d be like “Yo you have to be like 600 years old, but like, all you talk about is all the drugs you did during the Hippie Era, how are you even still ALIVE?”

Speaking of people that shouldn’t be alive (although unlike my physics teacher, this guy is deffo dead...)

And then just completely out of no where Yami demands a Spirit Journey.

Like what the hell, Yami? That’s like...a crazy blunt assumption to make. Mind you, if I had asked my High School Physics teacher for a spirit journey, he would have had a lot of stories for me. He regularly told us that he could kick the ceiling (but couldn’t do it right now because he had to go to his special chiropractor first and get the right medication for that.)

Sorry my bro also had this Phsyics teacher and he just told me that he witnessed this 70+ year old man kick the ceiling and like...I don’t know if he’s lying. Either way, that is an incredible chiropractor.

And then, adjust your seat belts folks, because then this happens,

Man. In the Yugioh Universe 1.) The Loma Prieta Earthquake never happened so the Embarcadero is still multilevel 2.) The Bay Area industry got completely wiped out by Pegasus/Darts/Kaiba and is a literal wasteland 3.) The Caltrain actually goes fast 4.) Hell/Spirit Purgatory is located somewhere between the bedroom communities of San Jose and Millbrea.

The Yugioh Alternate California Universe is kind of awesome.

Ah, welcome to Yosemite, now conveniently placed in South Bay.

It also has Hell for some reason.

And then Yugioh decided to use a background from some other anime to save costs.

Speechless, I’m absolutely speechless.

This is a good season, I don’t know what some of y’all were complaining about.

SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  Bazz-B is what happens when you cross punk with a volcano. Wronged as a child, betrayed by his God, he began a 1000 year crusade to infiltrate a holy army and kill God. Along the way he takes names and kicks ass, while balancing the burden of his secret goal and cultural obligation to aid his kind. 

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  The dude held a grudge for a 1000 years, pushed away the only person who cared about him, and then whined that he was betrayed. An ego bigger than his eccentric hair, he’s twice as obnoxious as he is loud.

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  How dare you make me admit my secret shame.. When Bazz-B was first revealed in the manga, I snagged him in the group I was RPing in. Grimmjow was already so popular, and a lot of writers I looked up to were writing him, so there’s no way I was trying my hand at that. But this new fella reminded me of a Quincy Grimmjow. I WAS VERY WRONG AND I’M GLAD I WAS BUT THAT’S MY SHAMEFUL ORIGIN STORY.

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  I think it’s stupid how much I love Bazz-B. I went away for a while due to health reasons, but I never stopped loving him. Fleshing out everything that could have been, should have been, is and was-- any opportunity to talk about this man reignites my passion for him.

Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?  —  I drool over that shit.

If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  I'd definitely be interested. Headcanons, I think, pertain to each persons portrayal, so if someone disagrees they must believe it’s inherently out of character. I’d love to discuss that!

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  I’d love to discuss that EVEN MORE THAN HEADCANONS. If someone thinks Bazz-B should be behaving differently, or acting differently in scenarios, I’d love to listen to why. If anyone loves Bazz-B and has thoughts you come to me, you sit me down and I will listen so raptly you’ll think I’ve frozen in time.

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  To each their own! I know a lot of people aren’t a fan of Bazz-B, he’s very in your face, and I know a lot of the stoic characters are super popular. Wont make me love him any less.

Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  Oh God, please do. My biggest peeve is when I repeat words too often. Be my little microsoft word paperclip!!

Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  I think I’m terrible at continuing out of character conversations, as I’m always worried I’m bugging people, but other than that I am very easy. Unless you say “I wish to offend you” I’ll naturally assume you’re not trying to offend me. We all come across differently, I just assume everyone is here to have a good time.

Gendrya fanfic help?

Hey Gendrya shippers,

I’m pretty new to the fandom, three chapters into writing a fic (it’s called Doomed and you can read it if you like. It’s on AO3 - same username) and it occurs to me that I need your help!

What item could Arya send to Gendry from her travels that might communicate distinct hope to him in a sort of subtle way but not buried-too-deep-in-GOT-lore for the casual shipper to appreciate? Is there such an item? I might need a justification too. I’m not opposed to the comical if that’s your leaning!

So far there’s been swords, black leather doublets (we know why, eh? Swoon!), a sword belt with bulls locking horns, and then, just for something completely different, a pair of horses. I’m having fun and am not too concerned about plausibility because dragons and zombies.

Any and all help in any and all forms welcome (message, ask -anon or not, reply to this, whatever other communication magic tumblr has that I don’t even know) and who knows, maybe you’ll be the saviour of my funny little Davos and Gendry focused fic.

No promises that I’ll include any ideas tho. Ten bucks says the minute I post this I’m hit with a brilliantly bonkers idea of my own!
