Modlite weapon lights
This weeks post is going to be about modlite weapon lights and why I am switching all of my weapon lights to them. For a few years now my go to has always been the stream light line of rifle lights. They are always a good light for the price and a great intro to weapon lights. One of the nice things about them is they pretty much come with everything you need they come with a Picatinny mound a clicky tail cap or a tape switch tail cap and they will get you going at a low cost and no hassle.
But what do you do if you want more than what the streamlight an offer. That’s where the more high-end weapon light companies step in. Things like your surefire, cloud defense, and my current favorite Modlite. My first one that I picked up second hand off Tac Swap is a FDE 18350 OKW weapon light. I was very impressed with the performance of the light had itself and the small compact size of it is fantastic for smaller rifle builds or pistol caliber sub guns.
Tumblr media
Some of the things that I really like about these modlites is just how customizable they are and the availability of different parts mounts switches caps etc. my 18350 is currently set up with the modlite clicks tail cap and it’s on a cheap arisaka knock off mount that I had in the parts drawer. I plan on switching the cabin mount and switch to something more like what my new modlite set up is which I will get into shortly. I really enjoy that unlike some other light companies these lights are interchangeable with a ton of different parts. They use the scout mount, They use surefire style tail cabs, I love that they use rechargeable batteries and if you buy the complete light kit it comes with one battery and the charger for them.
Now I will get into my newest weapon light set up that i picked up from brownells Thats on my odg geissele build. The light itself is a modlite 18650 okw light with a surefire ue tail cap. I do plan on changing the tail cap to the surefire ds very shortly. The mount is the arisaka I line scout mount which tucks up nice and tight to the mk16 rail at the 1:30 position. Again I do plan on switching the mount to the Unity light wing mount which will make sense with the switch that I am running. The switch is the Unity fusion hub/ modlite switch. I’ve really been really been digging this setup and I think I’ll like it a lot more when I switch caps and switch to the Unity mount.

Now let’s get onto Performance, starting off with I’ll be honest I don’t have thousands of rounds through these rifles with these lights on nor do I run around every night using these lights. But I have used both of these a handful of times at night and the performance of them is outstanding. I will attach a photo underneath this paragraph that shows the beam pattern of my 18650 light hitting a tree line about 80 to 90 yards away. You can see the center hotspot of these OKW light heads is very intense in the overall flood of the rest of the beam provides a very nice circular outline of light.
Tumblr media
Overall I’ve really been enjoying these modlites and would highly suggest anyone looking for a good weapon like to head over to brownells and check them out. I’m excited to get more time using these lights because they are just so good. I might do a part two to this after a year or so of using it to give my opinion on them then.
Thanks for reading and happy shooting.

EDC lights! Cool, dumb, necessary, overrated?
So a lot of people tend to argue on Facebook and Instagram about wether we should or should need to carry a light with our EDC set up. Ontop of that they argue if you do need a light, how many lumens or candela is needed. You'll see similar arguments for pistol or rifle lights. I'm going to give my opinion as someone who said lights were stupid and now own two edc lights and three weapon mounted lights (with more to come).
I always thought that because of modern living that weapon or handheld edc lights were unnecessary. Look around you outside. There's street lights everywhere, porch lights, flood lights for driveways, and other home security lights not to mention all the lights inside your house or workplace. I felt like all these lights would allow me to always see and identify if there was a target or not.
Then I got a job where I traveled almost 1,500 miles a week over mountain passes and going through the middle of nowhere. There's no lights in those places beside you (your car's headlights). So if you need to stop to stretch, pee, inspect your car, or help someone else out you'll have to provide light. We'll right after getting this job is when cell phones started coming with actually good lights (flashlight). So in my mind I thought, problem solved.
A year later or so while working the same job I forgot my phone charger and my phone died just after leaving the city I was working in some 300+ miles away from home. I realized that one I couldn't call or txt my wife or boss if anything happened but two my ability to have a flashlight was now gone. At this time I new I need a flashlight of some sort that was small enough I could carry with me. However the market was full of terrible lights like the mini mag lights (bad heads and wore out easily). So I ended up buying some of the cheap $1 lights from Walmart. At the time that's really what I thought I'd ever need.
Over the years I broke a countless number of those cheap lights and desired a better and hopefully smaller light. To my surprise there were some better ones on the market and is when I bought the Streamlight Microstream. This light was and is pretty awesome. It's small, super durable, has a decent battery life out of the single AAA battery, was only like $40 (at the time), as well as had a lot more output than the cheap lights. The Streamlight Microstream pushed out 500ish lumens while be so compact.
Fast forward a handful of years and I'm still rocking the Streamlight Microstream happily. I notice my friend Jay is messing around with lights to which I'm watching and trying to learn what each thing he's talking about (spill, candela, throw, etc...). This is when I learn about Modlite, Olight, Surefire, and a few others but let's just talk about Modlite. Modlite seemed to be at the peek of the performance spear. Their setups allowed people to see farther and wider better than other lights. After a handful of conversations with my friend Jay I bought a Modlite.
The Modlite (18650 OKW) is a beast. It's much bigger than my Streamlight Microstream I was using but with that the Modlite was 100x better. Instead of only being able to see a handful of feet using the Streamlight Microstream I was able to see over 100 feet out using the Modlite while also seeing like 40 feet wide (side to side). I was extremely impressed by this as the abilities from my previous light choices came no where close.
The Modlite OKW I chose uses a rechargeable 18650 battery, has 680 lumens, and I believe around 69,000 candela. While only having 180 more lumens than the Streamlight Microstream the Modlite OKW has roughly 67,000 more candela. This means the light is more intense allowing it to be thrown farther. I found using this Modlite that I didn't have to walk to the corner of our yard to see what was going on, or walk up the street when hearing a noise at work (different job that talked about a above), and I was able to shoot in the evenings and at night all because I now had enough light to positively see, understand, and identify things. Game changer!
After that I was hooked. I bought a Streamlight TLR-1 HL soon there after for my pistol and about a year later I bought a second Modlite 18650 OKW for my go to AR15. I can turn on (or like I like to say "touch off") any of these new powerful lights and be able to light up a room at home or work and see everything clearly. This is why edc (good quality) lights are necessary. You need a light that's not attached to a firearm to help identify things in/at places that that pulling a firearm out may cause chaos. Like your job, mall parking lot, park, rest area, etc...
If nothing else I urge people to atleast try a buddies for a week if they own a couple of them. This way you're trying before you're buying. Yes there will be more weight in your pockets but in my opinion it's worth it.

Based off the idea that Brainstorm had a phase where he started making weapons look like inconsequential objects, sending the whole ship into a frenzy- The only way they'd be able to tell is by frantically checking for his handwriting on literally anything >:)
Any object on the ship could be... more than meets the e- *gets shot*

I think a lot about Gortash tentatively showing The Dark Urge his designs for the Steel Watchers. Showing off what works and being slightly embarrassed about what doesn’t. And then they point it out. There’s too much mass and not enough strength here. Or there’s not enough flexibility at this point. And when he asks them how they reached that conclusion they tell him about the intricacies of the forms of men and beasts, of ligaments and muscle, of nerve endings twitching. That there is mechanism in flesh, and that the mind and body may be cleaved from each other but are always calling to each other until the very last throes of death.
And he thinks of their bodies calling to each other.
He thinks of nerves and minds connecting.
He thinks of how utterly brilliant they are.

°• study tip: arranging your desk •°
your desk is the most important place in your house/dorm (besides your bed ofc)! this is where all your studying happens, so why not make it pretty and focused? no matter what your aesthetic is, it's extremely motivating to set it up in a way that makes it fun to study <3
> decluttering your desk <
clean out trash. post-its, old assignments (put these in a folder - we'll come back to them), anything on the surface of your desk that can be thrown away!
test old pens. next you'll want to try out your pens! throw away any that don't work! you'll replace these eventually :)
desk surface. clear the surface of your desk of anything that makes it look cluttered. notebooks, things like that. put them in a drawer!
drawers. now that you've cleaned the top of your desk, pick a drawer and pull out everything in that drawer and pile it on the top. go through it! throw away papers, stack notebooks. declutter! do this with all of your drawers. (basically go through steps 1-3.)
shelves. clear your shelves of any textbooks you aren't using right now. this way you won't have to stack your books around your desk and it'll look neater :)
> organizing your desk <
notebooks. the first step is to organize your notebooks! put away or throw out any notebooks you don't use anymore. any notebooks you do use, stack them neatly in your drawers in a way that's easy to get to.
papers. next is papers. you always want to keep assignments and old tests! these will help you study later. get a folder or binder for your papers and organize them by subject and weight (homework, quizzes, etc). this way they'll all be in one place! put this in your drawers.
textbooks. pull out your textbooks and arrange them. if you have shelves, stack them neatly by size. if you don't have shelves, line them against your desk or the wall. just arrange them in whatever way looks the best and doesn't distract you!
> arranging your desk <
pens. get pens that actually work! find some pretty ones that fit your aesthetic - flowing black ones for dark academia, cute and pink for coquette, etc! this'll help make studying fun <3
planner. find a planner that fits your aesthetic. you'll put this on your desk for easy access to keep track of your assignments! try to get one with a calendar. (ex- for dark academia, get a leather-bound notebook.)
decorations. it doesn't have to be expensive! thrift stores have a lot of really cool things, and sometimes antique stores will have a vintage analog clock or a cute coquettish vase. fake flowers, a mug for pens, just look around! a lot of times you can even improvise with stuff around the house.
examples!! a dark academic desk might include a ticking clock, a wall of newspaper clippings and book quotes, fountain pens, leather notebooks, maybe a greek-style bust.
a coquettish desk might have some pretty pink flowers, a flowered mug for tea, pink pens, a little jar for candy.
a light academic desk might have pressed flowers and a collage of book pages on the wall, tea bags, a favorite book, baby's breath in a little jar.
you get the point!! look around and have fun with it! if your desk fits your ideal of studying, you'll be much more motivated to actually sit there and do the work. i hope this helps <3

i should know better than to allow myself to feel hope and yet the acolyte trailer's inclusion of so much jedi content, the training of the younglings at the beginning, all shaded in peaceful, golden light, and the group of knights and masters all igniting their sabers together, it makes my heart feel warm. i know the show will doubtless center the the dark side and use the jedi as the background context to be rebelled against, but regardless, the fact that we are going to get to see the temple closer to the height of the republic and the jedi as a flourishing culture makes me genuinely excited
