the deniss situation is super frustrating!! I see people say "oh, he should quit the quads and just be the next jason brown" and forgetting that JB tried that quad toe for so long and ultimately there is only so far you can push a tech ceiling, especially when your competitors are all getting a second quad in the short already. Deniss clearly likes working with Steph and they clearly share an artistic vision of skating but I wonder if Deniss would benefit from a summer camp w a different team that has a different (or any?) jump specialist for a bit.
I agree wholeheartedly on the "super frustrating"! Such a tragedy.
I know why ppl make the comparison between Deniss and Jason's situation, but Deniss is a completely different person. So while their struggles seem to be comparable, you cannot just copy paste another skater's strategy and think that it would work the same way.
Ppl don't only forget that Jason was struggling with quads for his entire career, but also that their situations have some differences.
Jason had a powerful federation to back him up, Deniss cannot rely on his fed pushing his scores. (not to say Jason didn't deserve his scores, but sometimes his GOEs seemed a bit high compared to other skaters that did just as amazing triples with difficult entries etc. but were from small federations, not even Yuzu received as high GOEs on triples throughout his career though Yuzu wasn't from a small fed either, this was just an example)
Deniss isn't as consistent as Jason is/was with his triples. If Jason fell on the quad try you could maybe see him struggle a bit with the 3A sometimes but not with any other jump. Deniss isn't able to recover from his quad fall as quickly and he never had the same success rate with his triples in competition to begin with.
Ppl don't like to admit or see it...Deniss skating skills and transitions aren't nearly as good as Jason's were. Jason is exceptionally in the transition department, Deniss is great but there is still a jarring difference between what those two do.
Skating nowadays relies a lot heavier on jump abilities than when Jason was struggling with quads. There is only a couple of years difference age wise but skating has changed a lot. And let's also not forget that not being able to do a quad did make Jason miss the Olympics in 2018 and almost also in 2022. So it's not like Jason's strategy was always working against stronger jumpers in the US. Deniss is just luckier in that regard bc in this case a small country is a blessing.
I am not sure if the technical expertise is lacking for Deniss. They invited jump specialists to Champery, Ghislain Briand is giving summer camps there for several years in a row, he's now even part of the coaching team, so actually Deniss does have a lot of specialists to work with. Maybe a summer camp with different ppl or approaches could help him. Maybe the problem is more mentally than physically, I don't know just speculating. There are videos of Deniss landing quads both 4S and 4T even in combination. So technically he is able to do them, just the success rate in competition is basically 0.
I was also thinking is Stephane still the right coach for Deniss? I know this opinion is widely unpopular but if it weren't Stephane specifically would that option be still this outrageous? Ofc they share a vision and I also understand that the entire success of Deniss' senior career is a joint work between Stephane and Deniss, but there is only so much a coach can do for you. And maybe it reached its limits. I think Stephane himself even looks frustrated when Deniss came off the ice at SkAm. It's just a thought so pls don't come at me...
We aren't in his shoes and I wouldn't want to tell what is right for him. For me it's just clear that his current strategy is not working and that he can't continue this path forever bc it can't be mentally good to not be able to get any kind of success. Maybe they are already aware of the problems and are working on it. I hope he'll find a way. I cannot offer a solution, just wish him well.
I can only repeat, it's frustrating. And it's probably or definitely the most frustrating for Deniss himself.
Crossing my fingers for the free skate! 🙏

The Windsors are all about forgiving and forgetting – when it comes to Prince Andrew
Marina Hyde
Some royal rehabilitations are faster than others. The Duke of York’s jaunt with Kate and Wills must have set a new record
Tue 29 Aug 2023 14.44 BST
Do all “fusses” die down eventually, permitting the fussee to return to life largely as they knew it, while the public scratches its head and tries to recall precisely which scandal/multimillion dollar out-of-court settlement/Pizza Express branch it remembers them from? The question arises after the return of Prince Andrew to the royal tableau, driven last weekend by Prince William to church near Balmoral, where the Windsors are currently all gathered (with just the two notable exceptions). I must say I do think that William and Andrew missed a trick not doing carpool karaoke as they rocked up to Crathie Kirk, either to Take That’s Back for Good, or the Gary Puckett and the Union Gap’s jailbait classic Young Girl.
Even so, how fitting that this staged sighting should occur on the very weekend crowds of people descended on Scotland in the hope of spying the Loch Ness monster. You can imagine being there when the cry went up. Oh my God – there it is! Look – you can see its head and neck in the front seat, right next to Prince William! Quick, get a photo, even if “friends” will later claim it’s fake because its fingers aren’t chubby enough.
Anyhow: welcome back, Uncle Andy. Typically, royal rehab efforts move at a more glacial pace. For example, the plan to make the British public fall back in love with Prince Charles after his divorce from Princess Diana and her tragic death was slated by courtiers to take years of slow and painstaking image work. But the picture of Andrew being driven last Sunday by William and Kate, the family’s biggest current stars, comes merely one year after the Duke of York finally settled a civil claim against him by Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre was treated as a sex slave by Andrew’s friend, the late international paedo trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, and long alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Andrew three times when she was 17. The duke denies everything, and his reported $12m settlement did not contain an admission of guilt.
And there he was on Sunday, next to William up front, with Kate relegated to creasing her outfit on the back seat. As indicated, these royal stagings are so often wordless scenes, so we don’t know the full story behind this picture. I suppose it’s remotely possible that when the family were having breakfast that morning, Prince William clocked the presence of Prince Andrew and hissed: “You need to spend a very long time in church indeed. In fact, you know what? I’ll drive you there myself.” Possible, but vanishingly unlikely. Andrew was, after all, pictured exiting the church at the same time as the others, instead of lingering for two or three hundred years after.
So this is not some accident, some last-minute instance of Andrew calling shotgun, or of the Waleses suddenly sighing: “OK, fine, jump in the front and we’ll give you a lift.” Please remember that we are dealing with a family widely held to telegraph fantastically complex and significant messages merely by their choice of brooch or jacket colour, which the public is duly invited to parse for meaning. So sticking a disgraced dimwit in the front seat of your car is not just some random thing that happens of a Sunday morning. This is a planned and choreographed moment, with William as the designated driver.
Even so, doing Andrew’s reintegration at Balmoral does feel particularly on the nose. Attendance here connotes the most particular closeness to the royal family’s wellspring of ineffable majesty and authority – which is perhaps why Epstein himself jumped at an invitation to Balmoral back in 1999, when Andrew had him and Ghislaine Maxwell come and visit the castle. This is the version of staying somewhere at Her Majesty’s pleasure that doesn’t involve sewage in your cell or being allowed to take your own life because it would be better all round for your Famous Men WhatsApp group. (And yes, I do know that Jeffrey and Ghislaine were in New York jails so not technically Her Maj’s guests, but you get the point.)
There were probably 500 things Epstein would have objectively preferred doing than yomping round Balmoral, even if 499 of them were illegal. But the frisson of tightness with the royal family was worth journeying to the deck of the famously spartan log cabin on the estate, and posing with Maxwell on the same bench on which the late Queen Elizabeth II was frequently pictured (even if she wasn’t in residence at the castle at the time). Epstein kept the photo of him and Ghislaine at this cabin in his Manhattan mansion, which was eventually raided by police. Thereafter it was presented as evidence in Maxwell’s trial, as part of prosecutors’ attempts to show that she and Epstein were “partners in crime”.
The third wheel on that trip was Prince Andrew himself. Presumably he took the photo? That’s a typical question with those three, with the notorious picture of Andrew with his arm round the hip of the then 17-year-old Virginia Roberts – while Ghislaine smirks in the background – often believed to have been taken by Epstein himself. Quite why the Prince and Princess of Wales wish to form a new photo trio with Uncle Andy is a mystery. But it comes across as the clearest signal that Andrew’s “banishment” from the family is the type we could all live with: one where you get a free mansion, don’t have to work, and all your significant rellies appear to believe your side of the story and are happy enough to give you a helping hand. The comeback will be greater than the setback – or at least of commensurate size.

In recent times, Prince Andrew has been the subject of both a televised comedy musical and a number of formal council petitions from Brits who no longer wish their street to be called Prince Andrew Drive or Prince Andrew Way. Yet, amazingly, the duke somehow still remains the most ridiculous thing about his own life. Barely a week goes by without some wince-inducing story about his comeback plans finding its well-sourced way into the news.
After many years of non-cooperation with any number of attempts to get to the bottom of her allegations against him, Andrew last year finally settled a civil claim with Virginia Giuffre, who was trafficked by the deceased paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. The settlement did not include any admission of guilt. Giuffre is now reported to be writing a book about her experiences with Epstein and beyond, and though her settlement with the duke would prevent her speaking out in detail about Prince Andrew, multiple articles suggest he is ready to launch a lawsuit should she mention him. “Andrew and his lawyers are ready to go on the attack,” a “source familiar with the case” told the Mail at the weekend. “Then her claims will be put under scrutiny for the first time in a court of law.” Finally! I don’t know about you but I always pay a reported £12m to settle a case out of court, when all I really want is for its claims to be heard in a court.
Then, last week, allies of the duke let it be known that “details are about to be made public which will change people’s perceptions of him”. Intriguing. Are those details … could they possibly be … a photograph subsequently published on the front page of the Daily Telegraph last Saturday? Unclear. But oh dear me, where to start on this picture, released by Ian Maxwell, the brother of Epstein’s convicted accomplice, Ghislaine?
You will almost certainly have seen this truly cursed image by now. If you somehow swerved it, however, the details are as follows. Two (mercifully clothed) adults are sitting in the bath of Ghislaine’s former Belgravia mews house, which you will recall is where Giuffre alleges she was first coerced into sexual activity with Prince Andrew. Around the faces of the two people in the photo – and I can barely believe I’m typing this, but here we are – there are elasticated laminated A4 sheets of paper, worn as masks. Think of it as Eyes Wide Shit. One mask bears the face of 17-year-old Virginia Giuffre, from the notorious original photo of her with the duke’s hand round her waist, taken in the house in question on the night in question. Odd choice – but not the oddest, let’s face it. The other figure is wearing a contemporary photo of Prince Andrew, 62, which only serves to emphasise the bizarre grossness of what the reader is being asked to behold and consider. Unbelievably, actual lawyers had something to do with this nutso line of defence, which the Telegraph chose to headline: “The photo that ‘clears Duke’ over bath sex”.
We might begin by querying whether “bath sex” is really the correct term for alleged rape of a trafficked teenager. But wait, because there’s more. The image is accompanied by quotes from Ian. I always feel I missed the point in time that the utterances of Ian Maxwell began being treated with something other than quizzical contempt. When precisely did this switcheroo happen? Anyway, here is Maxwell on the photo, which he seems to have personally staged. “I am releasing my photographs now because the truth needs to come out,” explains Ian, apparently dialling in from the Arkham Asylum of British public life. “They show conclusively that the bath is too small for any kind of sex frolicking.” Two points. One: they don’t show anything of the sort. And two: What? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!
“The family have even supplied the bath’s dimensions,” gibbers the Telegraph, “revealing that the base of the bathtub measures 1,359mm by 380mm.” I’m not sure any newspaper in the land can credibly take the high ground on the lunacies of other publications. There but for the grace, and all of that. But I don’t imagine I was the only reader who saw this picture online and had to go to the source to check whether that really and truly was the actual front page. Yet it honestly was. Less of a marmalade-dropper, more of a stomach-vacater.
If that photo wasn’t the gamechanging gambit at which Andrew’s allies were hinting, perhaps it was last week’s interview with Ghislaine herself. In this, Maxwell clutched one of the visiting-room telephones at the Florida prison in which she is currently serving a 20-year-sentence for her crimes, and explained through the glass that the original photo of the duke with his arm round Giuffre (in which she herself is pictured smirking stage left) was a fake. If that was the de-smoked gun, then unfortunately all it took was for the news photographer who had originally snapped the image from a hard copy Giuffre handed him to produce his image of the back of that photo. This displays the standard developers’ date stamp. It turns out to have been an ordinary printed snap, processed at a one-hour lab at Walgreens on 13 March 2001, three days after the date on which Giuffre alleged she was first forced into sexual activity with Andrew. The news photographer had gone back through his archives after being incensed by Ghislaine’s interview last week. As he put it: “I thought, ‘here we go again’.”
And here we do seem to keep going again. Quite how long the duke will fail to realise his comeback is doomed is not clear. News that he would no longer have offices at Buckingham Palace, which is undergoing a £369m refurbishment, was tempered by hints that he would still probably be granted rooms at nearby St James’s Palace. But for what, given he appears to have nothing to do other than mount a wildly ill-advised rearguard action against deeply unsavoury claims he decided to settle?
Andrew no longer enjoys the range of confected positions that enabled him to be helicoptered between the world’s finest golf courses. Does one really need a suite of damask-walled and lavishly gilded rooms with liveried attendees for his current activities? I can’t help feeling a lock-up with a single swinging lightbulb somewhere off the M25 might be more appropriate in the circumstances. That is the only staged photo any of us wishes to see. Failing that, a silent retirement for this lifelong self-saboteur would be in all interests, including his own.

yuma looked terrified before going on the ice. i really feel for him. he seems like a sweet kid (i just can't connect with his skating as much yet) and must really feel the pressure to make it onto the team for worlds. shoma was obviously great as always! he handles the pressure so well this season. i wonder if he's very quiet on the competition days, since stephane often asks about things in practice as well when they're in the kiss&cry (as if they didn't talk about it between practice/warm up and competition?) it's interesting!
I feel for Yuma. Yuma looked extremely nervous. It must have been so tough and disappointing for him. He was obviously not ready to comeback yet. I wonder if JSF pressured him to compete. Seems like he was really not considered for the team unless he performs well at Nationals which didn't happen and now Yuma is left with nothing. In a way it is fair if you look at how well the others did that season, but why then make him compete when the team was mainly based on the season anyway? Ofc we do not know if this was solely his decision but still it just feels so unnecessary afterwards. At least now Yuma has time to heal and come back in full force next season. I still believe that Yuma can be Shoma's toughest competition. And while I complained quite a bit about Yuma last season as I didn't like how his PCS rocketed when he wasn't yet there on par with Yuzu and Shoma, he is a tremendously talented skater and I did truly miss him competing this GP season. Let's hope Yuma at least has a good Universiade, where he was selected before any of the GP series took place. A small consolation prize...all the best to Yuma!
Shoma does indeed amazing this season. The free skate was a bit chaotic but still he managed to calm himself down and finish the rest without mistake and all 3 combos!!!
I am not quite sure how things are communicated between Stephane and Shoma. There still seems to be some issues with language barrier. As Koshiro was also at the competition, maybe Stephane didn't have as much time to talk in depth about practice, warm-up etc...I don't know how common or uncommon this kind of communication is though. It probably also depends on what the skater needs. I also think that Stephane is a rather different coach for Shoma than for others. Shoma doesn't need Stephane to advice him what to do, in my observation he needs Stephane to stop him from overtraining and support him mentally in the form of believing in him. I think their connection is rather unique for a skater coach relationship. Imo it's more about being there for Shoma than actually advising him on his skating. At GPF practices it looked as if Ghislain did more of the technical advise when a jump caused issues, Demi-san to record and show Shoma his footage and Stephane to stop Shoma from doing too much. It was really amusing to see how Shoma said he wanted to do the combo two more times and Stephane showed only one finger, then Shoma did also show only one finger and jumped the last combo and left early.

Sacha invited Friday to join him for lunch, along with a handful of others–Conti, the Dumonts, and Ghislaine Labelle, a mature heiress traveling with a sour-faced valet who replied to her every request with a dip of his head. Ghislaine spoke only French, and so Friday hadn’t gotten much of a read on her.
Lunch, therefore, was conducted mostly in French, with Sacha taking care to translate for Friday’s benefit at the key points. Her involvement mostly amounted to answering questions about Val’s work, about which Ernestine Dumont especially was curious. She wanted to know if Val had ever made films with the Bellamy family, or if there was perhaps bad blood, him being a west coast competitor. Friday couldn’t relax to enjoy a single bite of food–Ernestine’s questions never ended, only becoming increasingly technical. More than once, Friday had to fall back onto giggling that she really didn’t know all that much about her husband’s work, only what he told her, but that his films were marvelous and he had such an eye for rising stars, and so on, until she was forced to paint herself as fairly stupid.
Lunch lasted for hours. It was another one of those affairs where little plates of food came and went at distant intervals. In three hours, Friday had eaten four oysters, which she had been too hungry to pass up, a cracker with a floret of shaved raw beef on top, and endless glasses of wine, which the waitstaff were all too ready to supply.
Ernestine whined that she was positively stuffed, despite having eaten only half of everything offered to her. Sacha hadn’t found the exclamation worth translating, but Friday got the gist. Surprisingly, Conti had eaten even less, but nobody else seemed to notice that he’d been moving his food around rather than actually eating it. Perhaps it was because Friday couldn’t really follow the conversation in French that she’d been the only one to see his lack of appetite.
After lunch, Ghislaine made an announcement of her intention to play quoits on deck while the weather was mild, and there was some discussion back and forth over who would join her. Friday felt a finger on her wrist, and looked over in time to see Sacha’s hand move away.
“What do you say we go for a walk?” he asked. “Out on deck.”
Friday joined him, glad for the fresh air even though the wind whipped at the two of them mercilessly. It was surprisingly cold on deck, with no hint of summer heat–the sun had moved to the west, and Friday and Sacha were walking in shadow.
“I don’t mean to pry,” Sacha began. “But I thought I’d see how you were doing, after last night.”
Friday folded her hands behind her back.
“That’s very considerate,” she said.
“How are you liking your new room? Everything in order?”
Friday sighed. “Last night, I was only being silly,” she said. “My husband…”
“It’s complicated?” Sacha supplied.
“More complicated than I can say,” Friday said, with another little sigh. Sacha didn’t reply, letting a companionable silence fall as they walked down the deck. “...I still can’t believe he got in a fight.”
“Did he ever say what happened?” Sacha asked, apparently genuinely concerned. “I couldn’t get anything coherent out of him last night.”
Friday shook her head, eyes cast down. She hadn’t spoken to Val yet today. She couldn’t possibly admit that she hadn’t so much as checked in with her husband after he’d been in a fight.
“I guess it’s not easy,” Sacha said, rubbing the back of his neck. She hadn’t said a thing, but he’d immediately guessed the situation, still wearing his carefree smile. “I only ask because it might be important.”
Friday frowned. She suddenly got the feeling that Sacha didn’t think Val’s injury last night was the result of a simple drunken disagreement. Maybe she was reading too much into things. But after Ms. Écuyer had missed their five o’clock appointment with no explanation, Friday didn’t think she was.
“What do you mean, important?”
Sacha hummed.
“I don’t want to elbow into your husband’s business,” he said, “but you might try and find out as much as he knows. I don’t like the way the wind is blowing.”
It was an effective choice of words, considering the force of the wind on the ship’s deck. Friday’s hair, which she had perfectly coiffed in front of the mirror that morning, was being whipped first one direction, then another. So was Sacha’s, the black lock of hair that usually hung lazily over one eye blown back so that she got a good look at his face, his expression earnest.
“Can I trust you with something?” Sacha asked.
They were just coming around to the sunny side of the ship, and Sacha had stopped just shy of the change from shadow to sunshine. Friday followed suit, and nodded.
“Read this and tell me what you think,” Sacha said.
A piece of paper folded down to a tiny square passed from Sacha’s hand to hers. Friday struggled to unfold it without the wind tearing it away from her. When she finally did, she was disappointed to see that it was handwritten in a messy scrawl–Friday was already a slow reader, but this was impossible.
She struggled, pretending the difficulty was more due to the wind than her own abilities. Fortunately, Sacha was too impatient to wait for her to finish. She had just gotten the idea that this was an invitation of some kind when he interrupted.
“That letter is the reason I’m on this ship,” he said. “My ticket was delivered to me with that note–as you see, my benefactor believes there will be a murder on the Demeter, and has challenged me to solve the case.”
Friday continued to scan the letter. She’d need an hour and Val’s help to get through the whole thing. Instead, she decided to skip every word longer than six letters, discounting them as unimportant flourishes, and finally began to make headway.
“The letter is anonymous, of course. And the ticket was bought under a fake name.” Sacha began to pace before her, gesturing meaninglessly. “You may notice the writer doesn’t indicate the killer or the victim, or offer any useful information of any kind. Very unusual circumstance, to be brought in to solve a murder but not prevent it.”
Sacha became more frustrated as he talked. Friday folded the letter back down.
“I’m really at my wit’s end,” Sacha said. “With nothing to go on, anything might be relevant. If your husband saw something last night...”
He trailed off, and took the letter back when Friday offered it to him, returning it to his pocket. The story was compelling, so much so that Friday was tempted to be swept away by the tale.
“Why you?” she asked.
“Why involve me in a murder plot?” Sacha asked. He barked out a laugh. “I’m Sacha Fortune.”
Friday got the feeling she was on the outside of a private joke. Apparently it was self-evident that Sacha Fortune should be invited to solve a murder that had not yet occurred, but that was difficult to swallow when the man before her was a carefree, wealthy elite who wore boat shoes without any socks.
“Hold on,” Friday said, thinking aloud. “You’ve traveled on the Demeter before. And you already knew…well, at least Conti and d’Angoulême. Which means you’re probably good friends with the rest.”
“Oh?” Sacha said, the corners of his lips raising in a smile.
“Yesterday afternoon, when Ms. Écuyer called you over to join in the conversation, she called you by your first name, while she was still calling me Mrs. Lecter.” Friday continued without waiting for an answer. “And last night, you were familiar enough with d’Angoulême to scold her over a comment about my husband. Conti was familiar enough to ask you to get him a drink. d’Orléans and Casimir have taken this route enough times to develop a tradition, so they likely do this every season. I’m sure this isn’t your first time, either, since you knew the game well enough to...”
Friday was going to say cheat, but stopped herself. During the game, Friday had noticed that the card Casimir had handed to Val had never been in the bowl to begin with–Casimir had shaken it out of his sleeve. Technically, she couldn’t prove that Sacha had anything to do with Val’s impossible to guess card. Only that he also knew his pre-congregation decanonized saints.
“..to win right away,” she finished.
“I knew it was a good idea to bring you in,” Sacha said. “Your deductions are correct. I do know several people on this ship. I have a double interest in this particular case, seeing as it may involve my friends.”
Friday didn’t have the chance to reply–or apologize for trying to catch Sacha in a lie. He turned around, heading back the way the two of them had come.
“Stay sharp, Friday,” he said, already walking away. “And let me know if Valerie remembers anything.”
Friday bit her lip. After a moment of indecision, she decided to continue her walk on the sunny side of the ship. She had a lot to think about.

Only thing I know Olivia Wilde for is being bffs with Weinstein🤷🏽‍♀️
I thought about ignoring this ask, especially because I get a feeling (which might be wrong, of course, in which case I apologise) that this is coming from a stranger on the #olivia wilde tag, rather than someone who actively follows me. This being said, if you do follow me, you know that I take the topic of violence against women very seriously, so I ethically couldn't ignore this one.
[this post is long so I'm putting it under the cut]
Here's the truth: I don't really care about Olivia Wilde. I mean, I absolutely loved her in House, I think she's an incredibly talented actress, but I didn't follow her career after the show ended. It's been nice catching glimpses of her in certain films, etc. but I'm not very familiar with her as a person/the rest of her career after House M.D.
Also true: I don't really care about Harry Styles either. I know this might sound almost as shocking as when I admit I don't really care about Taylor Swift (I know, I know. Look, I think she's a brilliant person and a fantastic champion for women's rights. Her music just leaves me... eh? Shocking, I know, sorry ^^) but he's not a musician I particularly follow. I'm mildly familiar with his music one the radio/tiktok, but that's kind of it.
The reason I felt I had to spell out the above is that I think it explains why Olivia Wilde only came back on my radar very recently. As you might know, Harry Styles recently did a series of concerts in the UK and Ireland, and when he came to Dublin, he was accompanied by his current girlfriend. I saw a couple of articles online reporting on their visit and was like: wait? Harry Styles is dating Olivia Wilde?? stunned in that way you can sometimes be when you find out two people you know from completely two different circles end up dating and one of them is also resurfacing back from the ether after almost ten years. I thought it was funny and posted on tumblr about it - end of story.
When I later got this anon, I frowned. I thought: was she?
And, let me tell you: I thought the above, but not really in a way that questioned the affirmation. It was more like: fuck, I didn't know. I think one of the reasons I so readily believed it, was that one thing I did remember from some of the interviews she gave when she was in House was that her family were pretty well known in artistic circles and the creative industry. From I recall, they were very New York City, hipster/hippy creative elite back in the day (I seem to recall her mentioning Mick Jagger lived with them for a while?), and so when I read that anon, it actually seemed very plausible that OW would have known Weinstein very well, and perhaps to the level of "bff"-ness. Additionally, while I did follow the Weinstein scandal pretty closely, I (again) didn't follow Olivia Wilde as an actress anymore per se. So, it was entirely possible I might have missed this information especially since, to be fair, at the time, I was more interested in the victims' accounts than in Weinstein's supporters. Obviously, we also know the role that some women themselves can play in the cycles of abuse of others (see madams, ghislaine maxwell, etc.) so again, the whole thing didn't seem particularly far-fetched.
So, when I got this anon, I immediately investigated. By which I mean: typed "Olivia Wilde Harvey Weinstein" into Google and read what came up.
And, here's the thing: I couldn't find any reliable source actually detailing any kind of close relationship between the two of them. The closest thing to any kind of report I could find was this series of videos. I will be honest, I skimmed through them but did not watch the whole thing. They seemed tacky, poorly made, and didn't seem to actually "expose" anything with any sort of evidence.
What I did find were the following:
there are certainly pictures of OW and Weinstein out there, on which they look very close. On one he even kisses her on the cheek.
OW herself tweeted, a few days after the scandal broke, saying she stood with the victims, condemning Weinstein's abuse, ect.
This article which actually pre-dates the scandal recounts an anecdote in which Weinstein propositioned a model with the promise of a threesome with Olivia Wilde.
Regarding the above, I think what I will say is that loads of celebrities have similar pictures. It's not necessarily a fact that warms my heart, but the man was everywhere. Make of that what you will but on this picture where he kisses her cheek, she doesn't seem particularly pleased. Additionally, the threesome thing doesn't really prove anything in the way that 1) it's hard to verify the anecdote (although, for what it's worth, I believe it), and 2) Weinstein was just the kind of man to say something like that because he could. It doesn't prove that she slept with him, willingly or even unwillingly, and even if she did - knowing what we know of Weinstein, I don't think we should force anyone to comment on a potential sexual relationship they might have had with him if they don't want to. Obviously, for a lot of actresses who did have a sexual relationship with the man, a lot of them felt like he held their careers between his hands and they didn't have a choice. I don't think as a society, we should force women who don't want to to specify the intrinsic details of such dynamics to do so.
As such, while she clearly did know him, from the research (which I admit is limited) I have done, I cannot support the affirmation that she was "Weinstein's bff" as much as the fact that she was a woman in Hollywood who knew him. If you have any further evidence to send to me that I did not find in my quick Google search, I'm more than happy to watch/read it. Again, as I previously said, I was initially quite inclined to believe this.
Having said all of the above, I also feel the need to mention that doing my research, I also found this article which is not only very well-researched, but also absolutely fascinating, regarding the online harassment that not only Olivia Wilde but Harry Styles' previous girlfriends have endured in recent years. I found this article incredibly balanced in the way that it lists all the claims that are currently being made against Olivia Wilde (not only the Weinstein one) and looks at them through a rather fair and balanced lens. We can see that whilst the Weinstein claim does seem to be horseshit, she has made a number of unfortunate comments over the years (though, tbf, who hasn't? Especially since lots of these date back from ten years ago) and has maintained friendships with rather questionable people (the Red Hot Chilli Peppers singer for one, though she's not posted anything with him since 2020) and still says (like A Lot of People) that she admires Woody Allen's work.
Ultimately, I think we can all make up our own minds about the incidents and relationships mentioned in this article, and how we view them. I'm not here to tell anyone what to think, and I completely understand if the stuff that is mentioned in the article is the kind of thing that will make you reconsider supporting an actress's work in the future. I think I'm someone who's naturally quite tolerant and believes in the rights of people to make mistakes, so while I 100% agree some of these are very problematic, I don't feel super strongly about cancelling Olivia Wilde quite yet (unless of course, I'm missing a crucial piece of evidence, here). Personally, I wouldn't have become a lawyer if I thought people were inherently guilty simply for associating themselves/admiring problematic people but again, I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking differently. I completely understand that this kind of stance can be very strongly impacted by personal experience, trauma, etc. and that some things that may seem problematic-but-tolerable to me, might be hard lines for others. We live in a world full of diverse opinions, and that's perfectly fine.
I do think however that the pattern of online abuse talked about in the article is very interesting, especially coming from a community that is often labelled as kind and open-minded. Even if Olivia Wilde does turn out to be a horrible person, I'm not under the impression that all of Styles' previous girlfriends were, and I'm not sure any of them warranted this level of abuse. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy Olivia's presence in my House M.D. rewatches, and to not care about her the rest of the time.
Anyway, that's all for me for today :).

Credit: ECWby Joyce Chimbi (nairobi)Friday, February 03, 2023Inter Press ServiceNAIROBI, Feb 03 (IPS) - The world is in the throng of a monumental, damaging, and unprecedented global education crisis. Wars, protracted conflict, extreme climate changes, hunger, COVID-19, and economic uncertainties are pushing children out of the education system. In 2016, an estimated 75 million children in crisis needed educational support. Today, the number has tripled to 222 million. From Afghanistan, Moldova, Colombia, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, and South Sudan, as life as they knew it crumbles around them, education is their last hope.“The dreams of 222 million girls and boys are being crushed by conflicts, displacement, and climate chaos. Nobody knows this better than Education Cannot Wait — an education lifeline for children across 40 countries in crisis,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. UN Secretary-General António Guterres says children’s dreams cannot be defeated by conflict, displacement, and climate chaos. Credit: UN“At February’s financing conference, I urge leaders to commit to investing in education systems that can support those being left behind. Let’s keep dreams alive. Let’s keep hope alive. Let’s keep pushing for the brighter future every child deserves.”Not only are affected children furthest left behind the education system missing out on lifelong learning and earning opportunities, but they are also the most vulnerable to sexual and economic exploitation, human trafficking, and recruitment into militia groups.Yet funding is insufficient to push back against multiple challenges so that children can access a safe, inclusive, quality education. For this reason, leaders across the globe will come together at the Education Cannot Wait High-Level Financing Conference on February 16-17, 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland, to make good on commitments to ensure every child, everywhere, is offered quality education.Yasmine Sherif, the Director of Education Cannot Wait, explains that the ECW High-Level Financing Conference is a “crucial opportunity to turn commitments from the Transforming Education Summit (TES) into action. By providing substantive funding contributions to ECW, strategic donor partners can ensure quality education for girls and boys in the toughest crisis contexts around the globe.”She further stressed that “now is the time to redouble our collective efforts if we want to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Education – SDG4 – must be at the center of these efforts, as it is the foundation for all other goals to be achieved.” With support, ECW High-Level Financing Conference can offer hope of quality education to all children. Credit: UNHCR Ghislaine NentoboCo-hosted by ECW and Switzerland and co-convened by the Governments of Colombia, Germany, Niger, Norway, and South Sudan, the Geneva event will be open to the public as a live-streamed virtual event. The heart of the conference agenda is a concerted global push to mobilize much-needed resources from donors, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals to deliver on ECW’s four-year strategic plan, which will mobilize US$1.5 billion in additional resources to reach 20 million children and adolescents caught in some of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.Keynote speakers include the UN Special Envoy for Global Education and Chair of ECW’s High-Level Steering Group, Gordon Brown; Federal Councillor of the Swiss Confederation, Ignazio Cassis; Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany, Svenja Schulze; Minister of Education, Niger, Ibrahim Natatou; Minister of International Development, Norway, Anne Beathe Tvinnereim; Minister of General Education and Instruction, South Sudan, Awut Deng Acuil; and Minister of Education, Colombia, Alejandro Gaviria.
Top-level representatives from UN agencies, civil society, governments, and global youth representatives will also participate in the two-day event, which expects over 400 delegates in-person and many more joining online globally. The significance of this conference cannot be over-emphasized, for 78 million out of an estimated 222 million children and adolescents impacted by conflict, and other emergencies are out of school altogether. Please make sure that 222 million children are not left behind. Please ensure that all children can access safe, quality, and free education.”To accelerate progress, the event will kick off with a high-level segment on February 16, 2023, inviting global leaders to position the education needs of crisis-impacted children at the top of the international agenda. On the first day of the conference, leaders will announce substantial new financial support to Education Cannot Wait to deliver on the Fund’s goal to reach 20 million girls and boys over the next four years.A notable spotlight on Afghanistan – headlined by “I Am Malala” co-author Christina Lamb and Somaya Faruqi, captain of the Afghan Girl’s Robotic Team – will provide a key advocacy moment on the first day of the conference, along with important sessions on A New Way of Working, Delivering with Humanitarian Speed and Development Depth, and Leaving No One Behind in Forced Displacement Situations. On the second day, February 17, 2023, a series of roundtable discussions to share ideas, experiences, and stories to transform education delivery in emergencies worldwide will be featured.Founded in 2016, Education Cannot Wait has already reached close to 7 million children and adolescents with holistic education support, including upgrading learning spaces and ensuring children have quality learning materials, training and financially supporting teachers, and providing mental health services, school feeding, and other whole-of-child solutions. in my opinion, we can’t really use how other skaters have announced their retirements as precedent for when/how yuzuru might announce his — there hasn’t been a skater with his level of popularity for a long, long time. yuzuru is aware of his popularity and what his career means to people (eg wanting to be a symbol of hope for the survivors of 3.11), with this in mind, i personally don’t think he would simply announce his retirement during ice show season, it just doesn’t mesh with the public persona he puts forward. sure he’s chaotic, but it’s in a calculated way yknow?
this next part is pure speculation, so take it with a grain of salt: i think him announcing his retirement would have been more likely if beijing had gone differently — i’m not even just referring to medals or the 4A, but also the mental and emotional experience of beijing. while i’m glad he was ultimately able to find a silver lining of that experience, you can tell from the interviews he did afterwards that it was still… complicated. remember his initial response was ‘no, i didn’t enjoy these olympics at all’ before he had time to process everything. i also think that’s why he kept saying when asked about retirement that he needed time to figure out what feels right; logically he must know the strain continuing to compete would put on him (both physically and psychologically), but maybe he’s weighing that up against a feeling of personal dissatisfaction.
yuzuru has been skating since he was four years old. his career has been one of devastating lows and almost mythic highs. that kind of passion and devotion changes you as a person. and a part of me can’t help but think that he wants to go out on a high note. yuzuru has never been someone to do things by halves, and what we saw with his practices in beijing is that he’s even better now at 27 than he was four years ago (if you’ve seen the side-by-side video of him skating to seimei in 2018 vs 2022, you know what i mean). we even saw ghislain backing him up and saying that yuzuru absolutely has the capability to compete for another quad because his skill set has continued to evolve.
this message got very long (sorry!) but i hope it maybe gives a more optimistic outlook about the probability of his retirement. ultimately, none of us know what he will do, and i will support whatever choice he makes! however, (and forgive me for being cheesy here) as brian orser once said ‘never underestimate mr hanyu — that’s for sure’. cheers, darlings! ✨
Hiii!
I agree I agree I agree!
I don't feel like he would do ice shows and then do an itw and say bye bye. It's not how he does things.
I'm excited for faoi 😊 I miss him quite a bit.

Robin Hood Rewatch: 3x10 - Bad Blood
Tumblr media
aka Retcon: The Episode, aka Childhood Trauma, aka Daddy Issues
Kate, not being in this episode, is safe from my ire week - this time it is directed towards Malcolm, the worst father in the world. I’m aware that this rewatch has devolved from a commentary into a litany of complaints, so proceed with caution.
Again, they should have called this episode Sins of the Father instead of 3x04.
Guy is very nervous walking around the forest, carrying a makeshift bow and arrow. Robin finds him and they draw their swords instead of trying to shoot each other.
I think it’s pretty clear now that we’ll never see Robin’s scimitar again - it was left in the Holy Land and he carries a broadsword now. Just another confirmation that the Robin of season 1-2 has been all but erased.
But before we can get to our once-a-season Robin/Guy smackdown, they both get shot with sleeping darts from a unknown assailant.
Credits! Where we don’t get our usual cast, since they won’t be appearing in this episode. Instead we get the guest stars, and all the clips are of Robin and Guy, which is quite well done actually.
This episode is written by Lisa Holdsworth, who wrote Let the Games Commence earlier this season.
Tumblr media
Robin and Guy wake up around a fire, where a hooded figure with a raspy voice wants to tell them a story. We know it’s Malcolm, and that the boys don’t figure that out when he starts to tell the story that only he and a dead woman would know, is a choice.
“Everyone knew that we both became orphans that day.” Everyone except the audience!
And we’re into the flashback, helpfully “twenty years earlier” where Malcolm and Ghislaine are meeting in secret. “Ghislaine of Gisborne” has real Julia Goolia vibes. She’s played by Sophie Winkleman, who was older Susan in Narnia 2005 - and Lady Susan in Sanditon if you like coincidences.
Teenage Guy is rather creepily spying on them.
Back in the present, Robin refuses to believe it and is likely projecting a little when he steadfastly declares his father “loved one woman only.”
We don’t know what happened to Robin’s mother - my headcanon is that she died in childbirth.
Guy accuses Robin of being shielded from reality by Malcolm, and...yes? Generally parents try to shield their eight (ten?) year old children from the ills of the world?
There’s was a feast at Locksley, and we see little Isabella, even if she gets no lines the entire episode. And wait...if Robin and Isabella knew each other as children, and appear to be around the same age, why was this never mentioned before now? I know, it hadn’t been thought of yet, but this should have played heavily into their dynamic.
Tumblr media
Missing from the flashback who should have been there: Edward and Marian - I would have liked a nice little scene with Robin and Marian bickering or something, but maybe they didn’t want to visibly put teenage Guy next to small child Marian.
It’s conceivable they wouldn’t be at a feast in Gisborne, but Much absolutely should have been there. There’s no excuse for him not to be, other than they wanted to hone in on Robin and Guy.
The bailiff Longthorn arrives to ask who will be lord now that Ghislaine’s husband has been declared dead, and when she says herself he argues that the land should be returned to the Locksley holdings
Malcolm is referred to “Lord Locksley” - isn’t he an Earl? Lord Huntingdon, surely? Anyway he chooses not to take the lands back.
Alright, my next pet peeve. Robin’s recurve bow. I suppose it was never explicit that he got it himself in the Holy Land, only that Luke Scarlett was unfamiliar with it - which technically works since he wouldn’t have been born at the time on this flashback. But if Robin had been kicking around with that thing for years, surely it wouldn’t be such a novelty?
And where did Malcolm get it? Did he fight in the crusades too? I know it’s pedantic to keep bringing history into a show that is deliberately ahistorical, but this flashback would be taking place around 1174-5, when there was no active conflict in which England was involved in the Holy Land, and there’s no indication that Roger went there for either pilgrimage or penance.
The recurve bow as an inheritance from his useless father takes away from the character beat of Robin acquiring knowledge and respect on his own journey, and I hate that it’s been repurposed like this.
Tumblr media
So we get to the purpose of this episode: junior jerk Robin and sullen sadboi Guy, to make us think that hey teen Guy wasn’t so bad after all, and ugh, child Robin sucks. It’s just so...inelegant.
I actually think Charlie Row is a good fit for young Robin, but Tommy Bastow as young Guy is less of a match.
Robin shows off trying to shoot down a lantern and instead the fire wheel comes crashing down on a priest - he then denies he was responsible.
Longthorn blames Guy and throws his misogyny around, wanting him hanged to hurt Ghislaine. Malcolm is comically inept despite ostensibly being the well respected Earl, and Roger arrives to exert his status as lord of the manor. Longthorn stabs his hand and Roger shows no pain, Ghislaine arrives to say the priest will live, and Guy is freed.
Robin of the present claims that he made a mistake and the incident made him a better man, child Robin is penitent at his mother’s grave. He confesses to his father the hypocrite, who tells Robin he must take responsibility when he’s done something wrong.
As an explanation for Why Robin Is The Way He is, there’s just not enough in this for me.
Ghislaine and Malcolm meet in the forest, and he’s figured out Roger has leprosy. And uh oh, she’s preggers, and too far along to pass it off as Roger’s. Longthorn is spying from the woods, and wow are these two terrible at secret meetings.
Malcolm seizes on the opportunity to cast Roger out and marry Ghislaine himself, what a creep. Not so keen on applying that taking responsibility speech to himself and his unborn child, is he?
Tumblr media
Back at Locksley Gisborne Manor, Roger is sitting by the fire. I know they just repurposed the Locksley set and it’s not actually meant to be the same house, but they didn’t even remove the Locksley crest from the mantle.
He knows about the affair, but is remarkably sanguine about it - and we have the comparison of Guy’s father = pretty decent fellow, and Robin’s father = dick.
Roger is condemned as a leper, including by the priest Ghislaine saved. She declares herself a widow. He is unable to climb out of the grave by himself and Malcolm helps him - an act that makes him seem generous to the people, when we know it’s his fault Roger has been cast out. I really can’t express how much I hate Malcolm.
Guy, distressed, tries to follow and Malcolm stops him, reminding us that not only has Malcolm’s actions hurt Ghislaine - a woman he claims to love - but he has taken a father away from Guy and Isabella, all for his own selfish ends.
Tumblr media
Robin declares he won’t go in a leper’s house, and this is where I feel the characterisation doesn’t square with his future self - hubris, self-aggrandizing and showing off, sure, but Robin at his core is kind, particularly to those below him, in a way that seems more innate that acquired. Yes he’s still a child, and the plot of this episode is that he “learned” to be better because of these events, but it just doesn’t ring true for me.
Not that I think Robin does anything terribly bad this episode - he’s a brat at worst and still a child, but it seems a deliberate turn of the narrative to position him as the cause of Guy’s ruin in a way that is reminiscent of Once Upon a Time and the villianisation of child Snow.
“Imagine you had lost what he had lost.” I mean, we just saw a scene of Robin at his mother’s grave? He has indeed previously lost what Guy has just lost?
Longthorn arrives to blackmail Malcolm and Ghislaine - he wants the Gisborne lands or he’ll blab about the baby. Malcolm’s plan is to agree to hold him off, then quickly marry her so the lands become his. Either Malcolm is just stupid or is again forming plans that suit him best - he could simply say that now that Roger’s been stripped of his holdings he’s exerting his right to reclaim Gisborne after all.
Even if Longthorn did tell everyone about the baby, I hardly think it would be that big of a scandal, so long as they married before the child was born. Again, Malcolm’s the Earl! He has immense privilege and power! A lowly bailiff is hardly going to be an obstacle!
Tumblr media
Teen Giz sees Ghislaine visit Roger at the leper colony, and is quite rightly angry that she forbids Guy from seeing him but goes herself.
He confronts her and suggests they all go back to France, but she goes into labour.
Baby Archer has a birthmark of an arrow on his chest. Malcolm takes him away to give to a random mustache.
Back at the leper colony, Guy tells Roger about the wedding and accuses him of not fighting for their family.
Robin is practicing his archery and sees Roger, rushing to tell everyone about it and Longthorn whips up the mob. Just to make sure Guy has a “valid” reason to hate Robin, I guess.
Guy accidentally starts a fire trying to keep Malcolm away, then gets the silent Isabella out (seriously, why does Isabella get absolutely no attention in the flashbacks?).
Malcolm finds Roger with Ghislaine upstairs, the men fight and the Robin/Marian/Guy parallel could not be more on the nose.
Ghialaine really has no agency granted to her at all - she starts out strong declaring she will be the “lady of the manor” but then spends the flashback drawn along by the whims of Malcolm and Roger as she vacillates between them, has her baby taken away, and then dies.
Robin tries to go inside to his father, but is retrained by the priest. Guy just stands there, and in the present day laments that he should have gone in to save his mother.
Malcolm reveals that she was already dead, as when she tries to stop him killing Roger he pushes her away and she hits her head. Okay, so it could get more on the nose.
Tumblr media
In the present, Guy tries to strangle Robin - his impeccable logic being since Malcolm is already dead, he can kill Robin in his stead. Malcolm reveals that the former isn’t true.
Because it turns out Roger couldn’t bring himself to kill Malcolm, instead he just wants to die with Ghislaine.
Robin throws Guy off, claiming that his father never would have left him alone. Malcolm reveals himself, heavily scarred from the fire, and Robin’s heart visibly breaks.
“How could I be your father, after what I’d done?” Um...maybe that’s when you most needed to be his father, Malcolm? Not leave your small child all alone because of your selfishness? Take responsibility for your actions? Try to atone? Look after Isabella and Guy after you made them orphans? How about that?
The same could be said of Roger, choosing to lay down and die rather than be there for his own children. Sins of the father(s) indeed.
Guy gets to be relieved of guilt, thinking he started the fire that killed his parents, Malcolm asks that Guy and Robin forgive each other, for the sake of their brother.
“You lost the right to call me son when you left me alone in the world.” Good response from Robin, but then Malcolm has the AUDACITY to say “but didn’t it make you the man you are today?”
Because you see, this traumatic childhood event was character building for Robin! That makes it all okay!
Tumblr media
Longthorn tries to seize Gisborne, but the priest points out that they should revert to the Locksley holdings and their new master: Robin.
There’s something almost interesting going on with the priest here - he’s on Robin’s side, he wants to help him, and we can infer that he becomes a mentor to Robin in the following years, perhaps where he acquires his religious fervor and desire to go on crusade. I just think there were so many other interesting stories to tell about a Robin/Guy backstory but we got stuck with this secret baby nonsense.
Robin Refuses the Call and runs away to his mother’s grave. She is not named in this episode and is only a narrative device, another missed opportunity.
But instead Robin hears his useless father’s voice: “you shouldn’t stand by and let something terrible happen because you were too scared to do the right thing.” A more compelling narrative would have been child Robin learning of his father’s actions and realising he’s a fallen idol, therefore being compelled and committed not to repeat his mistakes - instead we have Robin buying into his platitudes even though we know Malcolm to be a hypocritical pos.
Tumblr media
And the bow APPEARS FROM FUCKING NOWHERE WITH A SHAFT OF HEAVENLY LIGHT. Come on, show. The bow was absolutely not there in the preceding shot, there is no rational explanation for its appearance.
Holdsworth took Campbell’s Supernatural Aid quite literally, apparently.
Robin returns to the village where Longthorn’s men are already terrorising the people, and does anyone else think this should have been a young Vaisey? Perhaps that’s too much of a coincidence, although it would make a kind of sense - he is ousted by Robin as a boy, goes on to do dastardly deeds and return 15 years later and assume the role he coveted and more.
It probably wouldn’t have worked from a Guy perspective, given he tried have him hanged, unless that actually played into Guy’s twisted relationship with him - playing on his resentment.
Robin declares that he will care for the people as his father intended, ironically exerting more authority than Malcolm managed in the opening scene. You know you suck as a lord when an eight (ten?) year old is more effective.
The priest villagers support Robin, and he basks in their love.
Tumblr media
In the present, Robin declares he can never forgive Guy “because he showed no remorse for what he did to Marian.” It’s interesting how his language has already shifted from anger at him killing Marian, to a grudge because he doesn’t show remorse for killing her.
Guy deflects, and Robin says he killed for the Sheriff for years, to which Guy implies they should be grateful for him because otherwise they’d still be under his rule, and Robin is surprised to learn this? They didn’t know Guy killed Vaisey? Who else would it have been?!?
Malcolm tells them Archer is in York jail ready to be executed. WHY DON’T YOU GO SAVE HIM THEN YOU USELESS PRICK? Oh he’s too sick and dying, well boo hoo. Clean up your own mess Malcolm.
I mean just the AUDACITY to run away, leave your small child with a huge responsibility thinking his parents are dead, and never make contact with him or try to help him until your other son gets in a sticky spot, then you dump the problem in your first born’s lap, insist he work with the man he has every reason to hate, and peace out. Malcolm is THE WORST.
Robin is however moved, and embraces Malcolm. Instead of returning it, or taking the time to talk to his son who has just magnanimously forgiven him, Malcolm sticks him with another sleeping dart. A complete waste of space until the end, slinking off into the shadows instead of lifting a finger to help either of his children. Worst. Father. Ever.
Seeing this, Guy says “look, I really have no desire to see you again” which is a brief light in an episode absolutely devoid of humour, but still gets shot and gives an exasperated look before passing out.
Tumblr media
I am just baffled that it was written this way instead of Malcolm just dropping dead for whatever reason at that moment. I mean, where does he go after this? What does he do? How awful for Robin to wake up after being reunited with his father, finding out that father is a terrible person, and just go on not knowing what actually happened to him.
Guy and Robin head off to York to rescue Archer, who unfortunately takes after Malcolm in the character department.
I just am sad about this episode. I LOVE an flashback episode. I am a sucker for a flashback episode. This was just...a waste of a flashback episode, solely to setup this secret half-brother to Robin and Guy to bypass any actual character development and make them allies of necessity, but without actually exploring anything about them by revealing their pasts.
I don’t object to them having grown up together - in fact that’s interesting! But instead we spend the episode with Malcolm, Ghislaine, and Roger instead of Robin and Guy, with only the barest lip service to explaining why they became the men they did.
But I suppose why does it matter at this point, we’re steamrolling to the end of the season to put us out of our misery.

speculation on conspiracy, prophecy, and spirituality
(tbh im so confused abt why people are still bothering with astrology lol)
remember how the epstien scandal broke in 2020 shortly before the pandemic was declared
like right when all these politicians and actors were about to be exposed, the guy who could expose them “committed suicide” and before anyone could press the matter, it was time for “two weeks to slow the spread”
fast-forward to 2022: the ghislaine maxwell trial is ongoing. She’s in almost the same position as epstein; the darkest secrets of the rich and powerful are at risk once more.
obviously, obviously we are not going to see any sort of real justice. Satan is the god of this world and his time is not up yet.
so I wonder what’s gonna happen to maxwell. Is she gonna “commit suicide” or “overdose on drugs” or ”go missing” or be “murdered by a vigilante”?
and I wonder which crisis will suddenly demand the world’s full attention this time
theory 2: maxwell gets off scot free and doesn’t take anyone down. people are so outraged, there are widespread riots, which create the perfect excuse for totalitarian military control. this outcome seems unlikely, but worth considering.
my other theory is that some guy posing as a hero could use the maxwell trial to bring this whole system crumbling down, and the masses would be so grateful, they might willingly bend a knee to him.
the prophecy about the anti-Christ is super interesting to speculate about. there will be a man who unites the world under his rule. people will love and even want to worship him.
the world is starving for justice. subconsciously or otherwise, people are looking for this man; the wrong savior. I feel like they’ll get what they’re asking for soon, but it’s impossible to know exactly who he is or how he’ll be revealed. When you see the world collectively embrace this guy (after the unexplained disappearance of millions of people takes place) it’s going to be tempting to follow suit. Don’t do it.
but yeah, of the three theories, I’m strongly leaning towards the first. maxwell will somehow be incapacitated or removed from the public eye before she can incriminate those who govern us. Her trial, like Epstein’s, serves to desensitize the public to child abuse/sex trafficking, especially where the rich and powerful are concerned. It is not about punishing criminals.
this is because, once again, Satan is the god of this world. He is always manufacturing reasons to accuse people. Anyone who continues to trust the government/media after learning about Epstein and Maxwell, along with those who mocked others for being “conspiracy theorists” and refuse to face the truth even after being confronted with these facts, are spiritually consenting to Satan’s rule over their lives. If someone stubbornly resists the truth and continues to submit to heinous liars, God might remove His protections and give them up to strong delusion. The devil is then free to use this person how he pleases and discard them when he’s finished.
On a spiritual level, every time you believe a lie, the devil gains some leverage to use against you because he is the father of lies. Fortunately, if you pursue the truth, God will open your eyes to deception and grant you discernment. No matter what belief system you currently subscribe to, if you live in constant pursuit of the truth, you will find God, and God will accompany you on your journey.
I think most people follow this blog for astrology. There are some super old posts still circulating. Maybe you stumbled across one of those and clicked the “follow” button. tbh I quit astrology for many reasons, but here’s the newest one: while you’re scrutinizing a chart hoping to understand the secrets of the universe or control the future or see how compatible you might be with someone or just find out what type of pringle you are based on ur moon sign, you’re missing out. This world is an incredibly interesting place. It is also relatively simple to understand; you don’t need esoteric knowledge to decode any of it. There is a clear battle between good and evil involving spiritual powers and principalities and God and the devil and massive apocalyptic signs and wonders and so much more. This is all happening in plain sight of, like, everyone for the first time in human history. And guess what? Whether you realize it yet or not, you have a role to play in this epic war. All you need to do is wake up.

On a super real note though
If you're following me you know I've been obsessed with Rittenhouse, and unfortunately due to that I totally missed two other BIG DEAL court cases going on right now, specifically Ahmed Arbery and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Arbery's alleged killers stand trial for, you know, chasing an unarmed man out on a run and shooting him. They're claiming self defense.
And we all know Maxwell, Epstein's co-conspirator who reportedly groomed women for use on Epstein Island. Her testimony could potentially lock up a bunch of high-profile sex traffickers and rapists. Unfortunately her trial is not open to journalists, but it's happening in Brooklyn right now so hopefully no more "suicides."

Queen of Peace, chapter 13
A manorian high school AU
Words: 2563
AO3 Link
Masterlist
Summary: Manon Blackbeak is flawless, untouchable. From the outside at least. Her grandmother pushes her to achieve greatness, and she doesn’t let anyone get too close in fear of being hurt. How can anyone love her when not even her parents could?
Dorian Havilliard has always felt safe and confident around his friends. He might not have the greatest of families, but with Aelin and Chaol by his side, nothing can go wrong. That is until he tries keeping his greatest secret from them.
What will happen when Dorian and Manon gets to know one another? Can two lost souls find their way back together?
Tumblr media
Oh, the queen of peace
Always does her best to please
But is it any use?
Somebody’s gotta lose
-Florence + The Machine, Queen of Peace
The music roared out of the speakers, and Manon moved her body to the rhythm, letting herself get lost in the upbeat tones. She had done this a dozen times by now, memorized this choreography weeks ago.
But then she turned to the right, and it wasn’t Asterin dancing beside her - as it had always been - it was Sorrel.
It startled her enough that she halted and messed up a few steps. Manon caught up with the others, but she was unable to pour her heart into it like she usually did. Her mind was too busy thinking about Asterin, worrying whether she was okay or not after their grandmother had kicked her out.
Manon had seen her at school a few times in the following weeks, but they hadn’t talked, and she doubted they would. Asterin probably hated her now, after all the horrible things Manon had said to her.
Getting kicked out is the least you deserve after getting yourself knocked up by a boy who will leave at the first sign of some real responsibility. Don’t come crawling to me when you find yourself homeless and heartbroken. You’re off the dance team, by the way.
Manon hadn’t meant what she said, not really, but maybe this was for the better…
Her grandmother had made it very clear that she was not to talk with Asterin anymore, and Asterin avoiding her, hating her, made everything much easier.
Yet, if it made things easier, why did it also make her so sad? The house had been awfully quiet these weeks, so quiet it was near-stifling. Manon hadn’t realized how different, how empty, home would be without Asterin there.
Stop moping around you sad, pathetic fool!
Manon mentally scolded herself, forcing her attention back to the dancing. She couldn’t keep letting this distract her. Asterin was simply an obstacle who no longer stood in the way of her future.
Finishing the rest of the choreography, she ignored the desperate, disappointed voice inside her head that whispered; you’re beginning to sound like her.
When the music faded into nothing and her body stopped moving, Manon put on her usual mask of cold, calculating boredom and turned towards her team. She immediately knew something was up, as they were all looking at her as if they had something to say, but didn’t dare say it.
«What,» Manon said, more an order than a question. If they had all decided to gang up against her, she only wanted to get it over with.
The girls exchanged wary glances, before Sorrel took a step forward and said, «We need Asterin on this choreo.» Manon was surprised when Vesta, who leaned against the wall with her arms crossed, stayed silent for once.
With a sigh, Manon answered Sorrel, «And why the hell do we need Asterin?»
Yet again did they all look at each other, as if this was something they’d discussed behind her back. The icy feeling of betrayal snaked its way up Manon’s spine.
«Because it’s always been the thirteen of us. We’re off-balance without Asterin.» It was Ghislaine who spoke this time.
«You’ve said it yourself,» Briar shot in from the back of the room. «If just one of us is missing, the entire team falls apart!»
It was when Vesta finally opened her mouth that she snapped. «And you slipped up today, Manon. Several times!»
«I have no idea what you’re talking about,» Manon hissed, clenching her fists so hard it hurt. «You have been distracted today, hell, you’ve been distracted, lazy and off-beat all week!»
«Because Asterin-» Vesta begun, but Manon didn’t let her finish.
«I don’t wanna hear another word about Asterin! It was her own stupidity that got her kicked off the team, and if you, all of you, don’t start working a bit harder, I won’t hesitate to replace you with someone else!»
The room was unbearably quiet when she was done talking, and Manon could hear her own heart thundering inside her chest. She had to stay calm, couldn’t let them see her fall apart, even if that was what she felt like doing right now. She was losing control, she was-
«I can talk to Asterin today if-»
«GET OUT!»
Manon’s blood was boiling at the audacity of Vesta. Why couldn’t they understand that Asterin, with her carelessness, was jeopardizing everything they had worked towards?
Her grandmother had been clear in her orders: everything had to be perfect, so they had to win nationals, which they couldn’t do when one of the teammates first of all didn’t bother showing up to half of the rehearsals, and second of all, would be heavily pregnant come spring.
When everyone had left, and Manon was alone once more, she didn’t let herself brood over the fight they’d just had, didn’t let herself recognize how awful this made her feel. She simply turned the music back on, and forgot.
She forgot everything she’d promised her grandmother, forgot the math test she’d butchered earlier today, forgot the fact that her whole dance team had probably just quit, forgot that she had no control over anything in her life anymore.
Yet as she kept moving her exhausted body, one thought remained. One of piercing blue eyes and soft lips.
And when she remembered that she had an actual date with him the next day, Manon smiled, despite everything.
-
«Why are you looking at me like that?»
How am I supposed to not look at you? Dorian wondered. Manon was radiant where she sat with her body leaned back, eyes closed, face tipped towards the sky. She was smiling softly, the autumn sun making her white-blonde hair glow.
Instead of telling her that, Dorian went with: «I’m just wondering what you’re thinking. You went quiet all of a sudden.»
She had. They’d been sitting here for hours now, under the huge oak tree in the park, eating and laughing and talking, but now she was silent, a calm, contemplating aura around her.
Manon hummed in answer, before opening her eyes and twisting towards him. «I’m just…savoring the moment, I guess.» Her mouth quirked to the side, the movement making her nose scrunch, and Dorian had to let out a chuckle.
«Now who’s the cliché?»
She’d been playfully mocking him for his picnic this whole time, even asking him if he was aware that they weren’t in every high school movie ever made. Dorian had begged to differ, telling her that the only reason it was a cliché, was because it worked.
And it did. After a while, Manon had reluctantly agreed that yes, maybe it was a little romantic. The admission had been accompanied by an eye-roll, of course, but what else could you expect?
«What time is it?» Manon asked after a moment.
Dorian scrambled for his phone, finding it half-lodged under the picnic basket. «It’s almost 3pm,» he said, marveling over how much time had passed. He could spend all day like this, just talking about all and nothing with Manon. No matter what they discussed, she surprised him with her answers, whether it be a funny joke or an unusually deep thought, offering a new perspective on things.
«I should head home soon,» she sighed, but Manon made no sign of getting up. Instead she laid down, Dorian joining her. «My grandmother will start to ask questions if I’m late.»
From what he’d gathered, Manon’s grandmother was very strict, especially when it came to boys, and Manon had told her she was studying at the library today. She rarely talked about her family, and whenever they touched on the subject, she quickly started talking about something else. Dorian knew not to ask questions, though. She would open up when and if she was ready, and those moments often came at the most unexpected times.
«I had a lot of fun today, you know. Even if I still think you just googled date ideas and went with the first hit.» Dorian laughed at that, his stomach filling with what could only be described as butterflies.
«Does that mean you would want to do it again?» They were lying on their backs, face to face, and all Dorian could think about was how badly he wanted to kiss her.
It had been weeks since their kiss in the library, but they hadn’t been able to do it again. All they’d gotten was stolen moments in between classes and late-night texts, their busy schedules making sure of that. Until now, that was.
«I would love to,» Manon offered, answering his question. «But next time I decide what we’re doing.»
«Deal,» Dorian grinned, his eyes staying fixed on her lips as she spoke.
Moments passed, the tension between them tangible, and then Manon whispered, «Is it weird that I really wanna kiss you right now?»
That was all it took for Dorian to crash his lips into hers.
The kiss was exploring at first, her lips so soft and so perfect. He’d thought about their moment in the library constantly in the past weeks, but his memory could never do it justice, he knew now. This was the real thing, the real Manon, and she was bewitching. No other word could describe the experience that was kissing her.
Dorian pulled her closer, and Manon placed her hands in his hair. He had to continuously remind himself that they were outside, in the middle of a park, and anyone could walk by at any moment.
Yet he couldn’t stop either. Their mouths had gone from searching to ravenous, both of them trying to get closer to the other. Manon nudged him with her tongue, and he opened up for her, the taste of her exquisite.
His blood heated, skin becoming incredibly tight all of a sudden. He could keep doing this forever.
But they had to pull apart at some point to simply just breathe. And they did.
Manon let her forehead rest against his as they both panted slightly, Dorian reaching up to brush a strand of hair out of her face. «I really should go now,» she murmured against his lips, leaning in to kiss him once more.
It was Dorian who pulled away this time, stroking her cheek. «I’ll see you later then.»
«Yeah,» she sighed, standing up in one smooth movement. The air around Dorian suddenly became unbearably cold.
After Manon had picked up her jacket, ready to leave, she halted for a moment, and said, «I meant it when I said today was fun.»
Then she leaned down to place a swift kiss on his cheek, stood back up and walked away, leaving him alone, all flustered.
Dorian had to wait a moment before he could get up himself, because his pants had just become very tight. His face was burning at the fact, but he forced himself to think of dead puppies and his parents fighting and his gym teacher in those tiny shorts he insisted on wearing.
That last image was particularly horrifying, but it seemed to do the trick. Then, Dorian picked up his phone, only to find fifty new messages from Aelin in their group chat.
Sighing, he began to skim through the thread.
Aelin: Do you guys have plans for today?
Aelin: Rowan is busy
Aelin: And I’m bored
Aelin: Hellooooo
Chaol: I’m guessing I have plans now…
Aelin: I can actually hear how hard you’re sighing right now Chaol
Aelin: We’re seeing a movie today
Chaol: When?
Then there was a lot of planning back and forth, and both Chaol and Aelin trying to reach Dorian. The last message he got was a selfie of his best friends glaring at him, the text reading: Come hang out with us loser.
So Dorian stood, feeling lighter than ever, and began calling Aelin to hear where they were.
-
Stepping into the narrow hallway of her home, Manon carefully closed the door behind her, trying to stay as quiet as possible in case her grandmother was working.
She hung her coat on the rack and turned her phone on silent. She rarely got any notifications, but that was before Dorian. Now they sent messages back and forth at all hours, most of it silly nonsense.
«Manon, is that you?» her grandmother called from the kitchen. Letting out a shaky breath, Manon made her facial expression that of someone who had studied in a library for hours and definitely hadn’t just made out with a hot boy.
Listen to yourself, you sound like some lovesick girl from those movies you hate so much, Manon mentally yelled, rolling her eyes at how annoying her internal monologue was becoming.
«Yeah, I’m back.» She stopped by the doorway to the kitchen on the way to her room, where her grandmother was sitting by the table, laptop open in front of her.
The woman glanced up at the clock on the wall, before looking back at Manon, her eyes searching. «You stayed at the library for a long time.»
Manon had to fight to stay fully still, to not flinch at her grandmothers words. She couldn’t know, could she? Putting on a fake smile, Manon said, «I just got into a really good workflow, didn’t wanna quit.»
Her breaths were getting faster, and she could feel the panic sneaking up on her.
Just keep it together until you’re alone! She always asks questions like these.
«I’m almost done with the history assignment,» she added to make sure her grandmother bought it. Even if it was all a lie. She hadn’t even started on the history paper.
«Good. I already made dinner, but there are some leftovers in the fridge if you’re hungry.» Her grandmother’s tone was pleasant, almost happy. She had to be in a good mood today, then. The whole thing felt deeply unsettling.
At least she was safe, for now.
«Thanks, but I’m not hungry. I’ll be in my room,» Manon said before turning and hurrying down the hall. Once she’d closed the door, she finally let out the breath of relief she’d benne holding, throwing away all pretense.
She couldn’t keep lying to her grandmother like this…
Not only did it make her feel awful, but the consequences would also be too great. She was putting her whole future at risk when she was acting like this, sneaking around and prioritizing boys over her schoolwork.
Frustrated, she threw herself down on her bed, startling Abraxos who was sleeping on her pillow. Dorian made everything so much more complicated. Agreeing to go out with him had been a mistake. A huge, huge mistake.
Yet she’d felt better today, happier, than she’d had in a long time. She’d even managed to forget the catastrophe that was her dance team, if only for a few hours. And with this light, fluttery feeling, everything seemed more manageable.
For now, she could do this, wanted to do this. The thought of not being with Dorian anymore… It didn’t feel right, and she was actually looking forward to Monday, when she would see him again.
She knew this, they, would have to end one way or another, but she couldn’t let go just yet.
A/N: That break really got longer than I anticipated...
It's been nearly a year now, since I first got the idea for this fic and started writing it, and here I was, believing I could be done with it by summer 2020. In all honesty, it feels like I posted chapter 12, blinked, and then 4 months had passed. But here it is, at least:) We have reached the halfway point, and a little progress is better than none. I'm still not making any promises regarding this fic, other than I will finish it, someday, whether that be in 2 months or 2 years. And to all of you who still read, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SO MUCH<3<3 I could not have done it without you!
All the love, Aurora<3
