Change the future part 3
Tumblr media
part 1
a/n: Still on hiatus, just wanted to post something on the triplets' birthday
a/n2: I don’t even know what ship is this about anymore
__________________________
"At some point you're going to have to talk to her about this"
"But that won’t be today, Pepa"
Julieta said as she continued to cook, deliberately ignoring the way her pulse raced and her nerves stood on edge. She didn't even need to turn around to know that her sister was rolling her eyes as she leaned against the door frame. She knew the redhead was right, but she didn't have the will or the courage to face this thing she had been running from for weeks and only one thought lived rent free in her mind.
Y/N’s back.
Her head was spinning just remembering the moment she saw you again. You were thinner, you had more gray hair, and a couple of new wrinkles around your eyes, but you were still her Y/N, warm, simple, and unbelievably beautiful.
She didn't like to admit that she probably would have thrown herself into your arms without thinking if it weren't for Isabela, who had been faster than her. Things hadn’t been easy for her and her two remaining daughters, so the moment they saw you appear over the hill, the three of them had run out of the house not caring that the rest of the family looked at them in confusion.
Isabela didn't even bother to slow her run before she crashed into the open arms you offered her and your joyous laughter made her stomach feel weird, as if thousands of butterflies woke up inside her. You had shared many things in your letters during all those years, and for that time, Julieta allowed herself to think that it was enough, but the universe showed her how wrong she was when, having you in front of her once more, her heart seemed to cry happy tears, as if a piece of her had finally come back to complete her puzzle.
She didn't have time to think about it though, not when her precious Mirabel, now so big and beautiful, lunged at her, hiding her face in her neck, crying and telling her how much she had missed her. It took her brain a moment to recognize that the young woman in her arms was, in fact, her youngest daughter, her baby, but once that settled in her mind, it was like all the weight of the world was finally lifted from her shoulders.
"You're so beautiful, mija" she whispered, not even bothering to stop the tears that ran down her cheeks.
Mirabel had smiled waterily at her, whispering a soft thank you and saying again how much she had missed her. The girl dulled in her mother’s scent for a while, just trying to find the comfort she needed when she left so many years ago, and sighed happily before gasping and pulling away from her to run to the person behind her.
"Tía Pepa!!"
The brunette barely had a few seconds to laugh at the way her daughter was scooped up by the redhead before she herself was tackled by two familiarly strange and warm bodies.
"Tía Juli, look! I'm almost as tall as you!"
"Tía, tía, tía, I already know how to cook! And look! I cut my hair!"
"We brought you presents!"
"But mine are better because I love you more"
"Not true! I love her more!"
"No, I love her more!"
Julieta only managed to laugh softly while Joaquín and María clung to each of her arms and fought for her attention; they had five years of conversations to catch up with her after all. It really felt like time hadn't passed, even though your children were no longer the little babies she saw leaving that night. And then there was you.
You, who had smiled at her with complicity from your own tangle of hugs with Luisa and Isabela, you, who had been her rock, her pillar, and her cane even when you were so far away. You, who were stirring her entire being with your mere presence. You, who had approached her, hugged her when your children still held her arms hostage. You, who had whispered in her ear that little confession that haunted her dreams.
"I was dying to see you again, Eta...I missed you so much"
At that time, she had simply wriggled out of your children's grasp and returned the gesture, trying not to get lost on your warmth (even if she really wanted to cry), having you there was a huge relief, and all the stress and anxiety that had been eating at her insides for years was finally beginning to dissipate, her usually tormented mind was quickly being filled with a single thought: you were here.
"I missed you too" she managed to say, looking into your eyes with a small smile
"Yes, yes, will you get out of here please? There are people who also want to greet Y/N”
Julieta blinked a bit as her sister pulled her away from you and she didn't miss the way you looked at her half amused and half confused before returning Pepa's tight hug. She couldn't blame you, her sister had never been as close to you as she was, but she supposed that after everything that had happened since you left, the redhead's conception of you had changed. Well, at least you knew you had both of your sisters-in-law on your side.
“It's good to see you again, Pepa” you said as you separated “You haven't aged a bit…you don't even have gray hair! I need to know your secret"
"Oh, Y/N" she laughed "it's good to have you back"
"Her secret is to annoy me so that I’m the one getting gray hair and not her'' Julieta joked, crossing her arms.
You looked between the sisters while Pepa rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue at the brunette, a gesture that the older triplet returned. Your mind struggled to catch up on it all, because you really couldn't remember the last time you'd seen them tease each other so openly, it was pretty cute.
The rest of the meeting was pretty adorable too. Joaquín and María used Félix as a climbing pole, while the man just laughed, Luisa and Isabela told you as much as they could, asking you questions while you tried to pay attention to both of them. Julieta thought that her daughter would ask about Agustín, or that she would be upset with her for their divorce, but Mirabel was quick to give her a hug and assure her that she didn't blame her or cared about him.
The brunette didn't have to wonder much where her youngest daughter was learning to handle the situation, because at that moment you intervened, gently squeezing the girl's shoulder.
"He couldn't bear to lose a daughter so he abandoned the other two? Math ain mathin" you said.
Julieta had just smiled gratefully at you as you winked at her, and for a moment everything felt good, like things were really starting to go back to normal, the way they should be. And then…then you saw Bruno.
The moment your eyes locked on the man hiding behind his mother would never leave her mind. Your eyes, which had been filled with warmth and kindness to everyone, turned cold and filled with a deep sadness that you desperately tried to disguise as disgust. And yet, she couldn't even pretend that she felt bad for her brother.
"Y/N" the man greeted awkwardly, forcing a guilty smile "...you look good."
"Bruno" you answered dryly
The air was charged with an intense tension that everyone could feel in their bones, as if it could be cut with a knife, or as if one wrong move could shatter such a surreal scene into a thousand pieces.
"It's good to see you again"
"I wish I could say the same"
Julieta felt in her own chest the dagger that you were burying on Bruno, who at least had the decency to look at the ground with remorse, but she knew you better.
It wasn't that you wanted to be cruel to the man you had loved more than life, but precisely that love you had for him had hurt you too much, it had destroyed you and it had hurt your children too. You were only trying to protect the hearts you had worked so hard to repair.
"What are you doing here?" Alma asked, looking at you with hate
"I came to see my family" you answered with the most neutral voice you could, but your hands were shaking
"This is no longer your family"
"Mom-" the older triplet tried to intervene.
"You shut up!" The older woman yelled, making everyone jump "Wasn't it enough for you to help this damn woman break the family?! Now you welcome her back with open arms?! After she stole my grandchildren?! Your own daughter?!"
"I didn't steal anyone! They are my children" you defended yourself.
You really didn't want to cause a scene, especially with all the children present, and because more than once you had to comfort Mirabel after waking up to the recurring nightmare involving her grandmother yelling at her. But that woman drove you mad with extreme ease.
"They would have been better here!" Alma replied "Away from your wicked hands. They belonged here, they wanted to stay here!"
"That's not true! My children wanted to go with me!"
"You had no right! They are Bruno's children!"
"He abandoned them!" Julieta yelled, making everyone look at her.
She could feel her heart racing, blood pooling in her cheeks, and a single look at her brother told her that she had finished erasing the faint ghost of what had once been her relationship with him, but she didn't care.
She couldn't care, not when she could see out of the corner of her eye how Mirabel was hiding behind you, how Isabela tried her best to appear calm but her hands moved as if she could still command an army of plants to defend her sisters.
Not when she could see Pepa and Felix trying to create a weak barrier with their bodies between their children and Alma, when Dolores hugged Camilo as if he was a little child in the hope that no one would hurt her brother again.
And especially not when she could feel your own fear, sadness, and despair as Joaquín and María clung to her own sides, suddenly terrified of who had once been a loving grandmother to them. Everything was wrong, everything was damaged beyond repair, there was nothing left for her to break, but she still had a family, a broken one, but a family nonetheless and she had to protect them, no matter from whom.
"How dare you talk about your brother like that?" Alma whispered dangerously "how dare you when you allowed your daughter to be kidnapped?!" that seemed to wake you up.
"Bruno left without saying anything, without caring about us, Julieta just protected us, all of us" you said, placing a hand on your sister-in-law's shoulder.
You didn't know if it was a bad choice of words or action, perhaps both, but you could see the moment when your mother-in-law's eyes flashed with an intense fire fueled by hatred and resentment. You barely managed to see her hand in the air and by intuition you closed your eyes, waiting for the blow.
"Don't you ever dare-"
 But it never came.
"IT'S ENOUGH!"
You opened your eyes to see Julieta holding Alma's hand firmly, preventing it from getting to you. Julieta, the golden daughter of the Madrigal family, the sweetest and most loving woman you'd ever meet, defying the woman who once commanded respect with her mere presence. Although, was it really respect? Or was it fear? You thought that, deep down, it was the latter.
It really was a surreal scene, as if everything was frozen around you. But a voice in the back of your mind told you that it shouldn't surprise you so much, after all, this was also the woman who had made one of the most difficult decisions of her life in order to protect her daughter, the one who had broken blood ties in order to keep the rest of her family safe, the one who, no matter how much it hurt her to be separated from her brother and mother, still got up every day for the others’ sake.
No, it definitely shouldn't surprise you that if anyone had the strength to face Alma and everything that entailed, it was precisely the one who was once the brightest star in the family constellation.
Julieta Madrigal was many things, beautiful, brave, strong, maternal, affectionate and loyal, but she also hid a wolf inside her, one that was already fed up with seeing how her pack was threatened. She was ready to get the fangs out, and you were beginning to see why the rest had trusted her to be the head of the family.
"You insolent-"
"I SAID THAT’S ENOUGH!" the brunette growled, still holding her mother's hand "I've been patient with you, mother, but not anymore."
You could hear a couple of gasps behind you, and you weren't too surprised when Pepa approached you like a scared little girl while Mirabel hugged her. If you didn't know that the miracle was gone, you would think that the icy wind that enveloped you was your sister-in-law’s fault.
"Let go, Julieta-"
"I'm not going to let you talk like that to Y/N" she replied, you could see that she was squeezing the older woman's hand tightly, and from Alma's expression, it was obvious that it hurt, but it seemed like no one could move as you witnessed "the next time you raise your hand to her, me, or anyone in this family, it will be the last time you have a family"
That was a sentence that you yourself could feel in your bones. There was absolutely no trace of compassion or kindness in the older triplet's voice, nor did it leave any doubt that she would keep her word. It was a perfect ultimatum, one that even Alma seemed to understand, because she didn't utter a word as her daughter released her and walked back to the house.
The rest of you looked at each other for a few seconds before Pepa, with Mirabel still in her arms, went after her sister, causing the rest to follow her, including your children, who passed by Bruno without even looking at him, and ran to reach the hands of their favorite aunt. Your mother-in-law just muttered something about going with the Guzmáns and she walked away, disappearing into the night.
Only you and Bruno were left, both looking at each other with surprise, doubt and a little fear. Your eyes seemed to ask a thousand questions but neither of you understood what they were. In the end, you simply sighed and lightly hugged the man who, you must have reminded yourself, was still your husband.
"This wasn't how I expected tonight to go" you confessed lightly.
"It was something that was destined to happen" he whispered "if this didn't explode before it was only because Juli always had the patience of a saint... but I guess everything has a limit"
"I'm so sorry" you said to yourself, guilt beginning to rise in you "if I hadn't-"
"Don't, it wasn't because of you" he smiled a little "...things have been tense between them since before I even met you."
"Really?" you frowned "but...it seemed like she was the favorite daughter"
"She was the closest to the perfect doll mom had in mind" he corrected you "And it only got worse when we turned 5"
"When you got the gifts?"
"Yes" he sighed and looked at his hands "Pepa and I suffered a lot for our gifts, but we always knew that Julieta had it worse"
"Why?"
"Because she's the one who looks the most like dad" he answered, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world "If she hadn't been born a woman, I assure you, she would be his living portrait"
You thought about it for a moment. You had seen Pedro Madrigal's portrait many times, and although you had never paid much attention to physical details, you had always believed that he radiated a warmth that you only knew from his eldest daughter. It made sense that Alma would have seen the ghost of her late husband in her, and at that moment, something clicked on you.
"And Julieta's gift allowed her to help the community like no one else could" you looked him in the eye "Despite the exhaustion and fatigue, she was always ready to help others... like your father"
"That's right" he agreed.
"But...her gift made her absorb others’ pain" you continued, with the pieces falling into place in your mind quickly "she was in constant suffering...Alma made her reenact Pedro's sacrifice every day"
"And Pepa and I couldn't do anything"
You looked at Bruno for a moment. Despite being the youngest, he looked terribly tired, his eyes swam in deep sadness, his hands trembled and he looked incredibly fragile. Your heart forgot all about anger and disappointment, and was quickly filled with the same affection you had felt for him the first time you met him, a tender and childish love, pure and sincere. He was a brother who felt guilty for not protecting his sister.
"You love her" you said, it wasn't a question.
"As you don't have an idea" he answered anyway "when I came back, it was her arms that I wanted to feel, not mom's" he admitted "but she was furious with me, and with good reason. I shouldn't have left, I shouldn't have left you or the children, I shouldn't have allowed mom to treat Mirabel like that...I should have done things differently...but that doesn't matter now"
You looked at him sympathetically and put a hand on his shoulder so that he looked at you. He seemed so lost, like a kid who has broken something and didn't know how to apologize to mom. Yes, there were too many things that maybe he could have done differently, you too. But that no longer mattered, time was not going to come back and all you could do was start walking towards the best option you had now, and you both knew that that option had a name.
"Have you tried talking to her?" you asked softly
"Mom is always by my side" he said "And I n-never have the courage to talk to her when we're alone, I…I just don't want her to hate me more"
"She doesn't hate you" you said immediately "she could never hate you... you're her baby brother, and we both know that deep down, there will always be a place in her heart for you, no matter how hard Alma tries to keep you from getting back on good terms with her."
"I feel like I've failed her too much" he murmured, looking at the ground "It doesn't matter what I do anymore, our relationship is broken beyond repair...B-but I love her, that's why I try to keep mom busy with me and leave the rest of us alone. I love her and Pepa, and-and I love our family, my nephews, my nieces, my children...and you"
Your cheeks warmed at the last words, and by the way his eyes looked everywhere but at you, you knew he hadn't expected that confession to slip out of him either, at least not at the moment. You smiled and hugged him again, trying not to let the discomfort touch you.
"Talk to her, Bruno" you said "I'm sure you can fix things...so can we" you smiled
He looked at you hopefully and slowly smiled back, walking silently beside you as you went back to the house. You both knew this wasn't a mend, that there was still too much going on between you, but at least you were headed in the right direction. After all, you'd already fallen in love with him once, who said it couldn't happen twice?
______________________
Except that the first time you hadn't had your sister-in-law's face on your mind, nor had you had a little five-year-old nephew rock your entire world with a simple question.
You really couldn't blame the little guy. Antonio was just a child trying to catch up with the changing situation of his family, he was learning to live with some cousins and an aunt he never knew and you knew you had to be patient with his questions.
You had to admit that he was adorable, and despite Pepa's teasing, it was nice to have him behind you all day. Joaquín and María had become his best friends immediately and it was obvious that he was replacing your son as Mirabel's favorite cousin.
Speaking of your children, both of them were making a titanic effort to stay away from their grandmother, but they were spending more and more time with their father, which seemed to be the first steps towards Bruno becoming part of the "good side" of the family again, as the children liked to call it.
Your relationship with him was still in the mending process, but at least you could say you were friends again, which seemed to relieve Pepa, one less battle to fight between her siblings, you guessed.
The problem was Julieta.
She was still your favorite sister-in-law and your best friend, without a doubt, but things were starting to get weird for you when you realized that she was slowly becoming your favorite person too. You seemed unable to stop your smile every time you saw her and your heart raced when you heard her laugh.
It was a terribly familiar and terrifying feeling, because you knew that she shouldn't have that effect on you, that you shouldn't feel with her what you once felt with Bruno. And yet you couldn't stop.
As much as you tried to lie to yourself, it was obvious that you were always trying to be with her, whether it was helping her cook or just chatting with her over coffee, it didn't matter, you just wanted to be close to her. You felt bad for a while, but then you started noticing the way she would blush every time you smiled at her or how she would look at you when she thought you weren't paying attention.
You were both playing a dangerous game, but it somehow felt so…natural, like that was the only logical path for you. You didn't expect that to be confirmed by the miracle itself.
It was one afternoon when, a few days after finishing the reconstruction of Casita, you and Julieta were sitting in the kitchen, just talking, you were telling her about the first dress that Mirabel made when Camilo ran in, his eyes full of emotion and fear in equal measure.
"Tías, you have to come quickly" he told you
"What's going on?" Julieta asked, even as you both were already getting up
"You have to see it for yourself"
You and the brunette looked at each other curiously for a second before hurrying after your older nephew. The rest of the family was already there and you only had to look in the same direction to understand the commotion. The candle was back.
Well, not exactly. The candle itself was there, but it was out. Still, you knew what that could mean for your family, you knew what they could get back if they managed to make it shine again. The question was, how?
"Mom, you have to take it" Mirabel said excitedly
"What?"
"Think about it Juli" Pepa agreed "you're the new head of the family, you should be the one to protect the candle now... right?"
"I… I guess"
Julieta looked at you for a moment, and you could see the doubt and anxiety in her eyes, so you just smiled and nodded, hoping that was enough comfort for her. The brunette returned your smile before approaching the candle. Her hands trembled and you did not doubt that memories of when she received her gift, more than 45 years ago, passed through her mind.
You all held your breath as the older triplet's hands carefully took hold of the candle and a current passed through you. It was soft and warm, just like a tickle. You waited a moment, but nothing else happened. You could see the disappointment in the rest of the family, especially the brunette, but they all faked supportive smiles.
"Maybe we need to call-"
"No Juli, we don't need her"
You were a bit surprised by Pepa's tone, but you could understand. Alma hadn't been back since the night you returned to Encanto, taking refuge with the Guzmans ever since. It hurt a little that this distanced Dolores from Mariano, but no one could deny that everyone breathed more peace since she was gone. It didn't seem strange to you that they refused to call her now.
"It's because tía Y/N isn’t close" Antonio said suddenly, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world
"Excuse me?" you blinked
"Abuela's candle was lit because Abuelo loved her" the boy explained.
You all looked at him like he was growing another head, but deep down, you all wanted to know the reasoning behind that little head. After all, the little ones always have the most creative solutions.
"What does that have to do with tía Y/N, Antonio?" Mirabel asked softly
"Tía Y/N loves tía Julieta" he said "the candle has to light if she's around her girlfriend, right?"
You didn't even need Dolores' gift to hear a pin drop, not when the room was deathly silent. You looked at Julieta out of the corner of your eye and you could see that her face was redder than a tomato, and you doubted that you were better. Your heart was racing like crazy, your hands were sweating and you could feel the anxiety building up in you.
How could a five-year-old boy understand better than you the forbidden feelings that had been blooming in you for your sister-in-law? Had you been too obvious? Did the others notice it too? God, you didn't even want to look at Bruno.
"Mami! mami!"
María's voice brought you out of your thoughts and you looked at her worriedly. Your daughter just looked at you in amazement and pointed with her little hand to the place where your attention should be. You hadn't even realized that you had approached Julieta, but now you were facing each other, with the candle between you and a small flame sprouting.
“It can’t be” you heard Isabela whispering while Pepa gasped
The moment you took a step back, the small flame went out. The brunette looked at you for a second before slowly approaching you again, causing the candle to relight. It wasn't a strong, magical glow like the one it had before the whole disaster, but it was a promise that you’d get the miracle back.
Except that neither you nor Julieta wanted to think about what the miracle was asking of you, or what that meant for both of you and your respective families.

I saw your Hobie x latina going going to the club para perrear and I loved it😭🤞🏼😩
BUT
Imagine Hobie going to a cantina with a mexican reader and just drink and hear corridos tristes (el video del vato que dice "porque que te quiero" y le meten el micrófono a la boca😭💀) or rather going to a cantina goes to her house and her family is making carne asada and drinking beer and there's literally a band in the party (soy norteña perdoname😭) and he is like "this food is bussing bussing" because he is British and their food is just "no good💖". At first he is nervous like he doesn't know what to do and at the end he is somehow riding a horse or he is playing with the band, he just loves it, the vibe and the food
(Love how you write 😭💖)
Hobie Brown meeting latina!reader's family <3
Tumblr media
Masterlist <3
Ay hermana, soy chilanga we don't have horses up in this bitch😭 I tried to make it more general like Bee meeting your tías and primos but def adding the whole carne asada deal. (For my non-mexican readers, we call people from the city "chilangos" and northern people "norteños" and while we're from the same country, our experiences can be very different!). Also, tysm my dear, hope u like<3
-First off
-Giggling and kicking my feet 🤭
-Bro was persistent in meeting your family, and while you weren't exactly reluctant, you did have to warn him
-"Why not!? I want to meet your uncle Luis or- or Saúl!" He exclaims, recalling the stories you've told about your family members. "I'm not saying no, mi amor. I-It's just-" "What?" He grins, knowing you don't really have a solid argument. He kisses your pout and walks over to your room to get ready as you sigh, defeated by your pretty once more.
-Of course you wanted Bee to meet your family! But we all know how it can get at those big family gathering.
-One thing was meeting your parents, (which went by spectacularly, by the way) but him hanging out with your older tíos and younger primos was a whole other deal
-They aren't bad people, you love them dearly. It was the soft (hard and relentless) teasing (borderline bullying) you were worried about.
-It was easy to understand their humor when you grew up with heavy jokes, but Hobie would be new to all this. Plus, he was the first official boyfriend you'd introduce to the family! They were protective and honestly not afraid to show it.
-"Buenas tardes, Hobie Brown. Mucho gusto" you say slowly as you're both on the way to your tío's house, he repeats after you with a horrible accent. "Roll your r's!" You giggle, looking at him intently while softly showing him how to pronounce.
-He's really trying for you bestie </3
-Yeah he went blank after your aunt opened the door and dismissed his polite handshake with a bone-crushing hug.
-"Ay mija! He's so tall, I can barely hug him right. Pásenle, pásenle, Luis is in the garden with the kids. Welcome Hobie!"
-Bee just smiles and it widens when a horde of kids comes running down the hall and bolt towards you, saying hello to their favorite aunt and the strange bato she brought along.
-"Tía Y/N/N who is this?" Luisa (the youngest) asks, eyeing Hobie up and down with the sass of an old lady, making him suppress a laugh "Es tu novio?" now questions one of the boys, looking up at him amazed. "Hello brats" he smirks, high-fiving each and every one of your nieces and nephews excitedly.
-"You didn't tell me you were a tía already..." "Some of them will be by the age of sixteen, so I'm no rare event."
-Hobie is hard to lose on a crowd; all spikes, leather, chunky boots, and piercings
-Your nephews are thrilled.
-Asking all around about what his pins mean, if he finds it hard to walk with those boots, if he's not too hot with his jacket... you know, the type of questions kids ask.
-You laugh at him, trying to answer one question at a time patiently, and walk over to the table outside where your tíos, tías, primos, primas, cuñadas and some sobrinos were.
-"Y el novio mija?" Asks one of your tíos, already in a deffensive tone "He's inside con los niños, tío. Ahorita viene" you smile and promptly, Hobie walks through the door after the kids.
-The smokey scent of the carne asada filled his nostrils as soon as he walked outside, widening his eyes at how good it smelled. You walk over to him, grabbing his arm and smiling widely at your family
-"Les presento a Hobie, mi novio" you beam and your tíos can tell he truly makes you happy. "Yo no te di permiso, Y/N" one of them jokes, making everyone laugh and Bee follows after you translate for him.
-And he didn't like it but he really cared about their opinions
-He didn't give a single fuck of what other people had to say, but this was your family!!! He knew he was close and for the first time, strived for perfection
-The next few minutes were him trying really hard to memorize all the names, having a hard time pronouncing your aunt Rocio and Rosa's names.
-Everyone laughed at his attempts
-You sit between everyone at the large table, one of your tíos approaching you as you're too busy catching up with one of your cousins. Bee squeezes your hand to catch your attention, but you don't turn back to look at him, instead just squeeze back.
-He nervously places his hand out, and contrary to before, your uncle welcomes it. "Buenas tardes, Hobie" (oubi😭con acento mexa) "Buenas tardes, señor". God, did he rehearse that on the way...
-Your uncle seemed to appreciate him at least trying to talk to him in your mother tongue. He gave him kind of a smile and asked "Wanna help me with the asador over there?"
-Oh this was a test
-"Sure thing" he nods confidently even though he's shitting himself at the moment
-When he saw the carne asada let me tell you
-His mouth watered, heart eyes all over and he swore he was about to do that floating thing he's seen spider pig do
-Your tío taught him how to turn the steaks at the right time, after some aceite jumped and burnt him a bit :( your uncle could tell he was trying hard so he took it easy on him
-Personally? You fell in love all over again when he contained his tears the best he could at the smell and spice of the chiles floating so close to his nose <3
-You slapped his ass playfully when serving the food and he just smirked as your uncle side eyed you HARD
-“Bloody hell this shit is fucking amazing babe!” He almost moans when he bites into the taco of asada you made for him
-Your family might or might not know english but they know how bad words sound lmao
-They couldn’t blame him tho, not after he proved to love asada as much as them with the eight tacos he ate ☹️💕
-Him playing with the babies of your family bro :(
-He's so good with kids too
-I'm talking playing with them, having full conversations no matter how silly they got, following their train of thought and even making sure they weren't up to some stupid shit
-Girl, if you don't rail him stupid after that-
-He got along with your older cousins too!!! After all, they shared a similar taste in music and films so there was plenty to talk about
-Your tías chismeando with you about how handsome he is
-Let’s wrap it up, I got carried away and this is too damn long 😭
-He’s talking to one of your tías when the banda arrived at around 9 p.m
-My man is so confused please help him
-His spidey sense went off before the whole fucking commotion started lmao
-When he realized it was a live group playing and singing traditional music he lost his shit
-Asked you all about it!!! “What is that piano thing!?”, “What is he singing about?”, “Can I learn how to play that?”<3
-Eventually (and with no alcohol needed since he refused to risk doing some stupid shit with your family) he ended up dancing with your tía, her patiently teaching him how to move
-He had a hard time with his big ass boots but somehow managed!!
-Hobie was so happy when you went home ☹️ almost asking when you could come back and if you could cook some carne asada the same way your uncle (his best friend, he called him) did
-“Yo te amo mi amor” He smiled big, kissing you softly before falling asleep “Thanks for letting me meet your family… meant a whole lot y’know?” “‘Course corazón, seeing you there with everyone filled my heart with a joy I have rarely experienced”
-And with that you fell asleep, Hobie dreamt of asada and banda<3

NORTHANGER ABBEY — send a muse + your favourite trope and i’ll write a drabble/blurb.
This with oscar and the best friends to lovers trope because it seems so fitting !
Also congratulations on 1k followers , I recently found your blog and I love your writing so much 🥰
him and this trope??? perfection.
ALWAYS. ❨ oscar piastri x reader ❩
the gods had been on your side the day you met oscar. or, to put it literally, lando norris had. you’d known the english driver a few years, through mutual friends and whatnot. he had been the one to introduce you to oscar, just after his moving from australia to london. his apartment wasn’t far from your own, though his was much nicer than your student—loan rented studio.
fulfilling your promise to show him around the city, the pair of you became inseparable. from picnics on the heath to nights out in soho to sitting on the roof of your apartment counting the stars. you could talk for hours and hours and never run out of things to say. he listened to your rants about school and you listened to his worries about racing.
for a whole year, oscar was your second half. never once did anything other than pure platonic love slip in — hell, you’d even set him up with one or two of your girlfriends. the notion that you and oscar could ever be more hadn’t crossed your mind at all. at least, it hadn’t before.
he was supposed to be in belgium. you were graduating university the same day he was supposed to be racing around a track hours away from you. but the ceremony had just ended and there he was, stood outside the hall waiting for you.
“what the hell are you doing here?” you squealed, gown flowing behind you as you ran towards him. oscar laughed gleefully, arms outstretched and waiting for you to jump into them. he held you tightly, even after spinning you around, strong arms around your waist.
“i couldn’t miss your big day, could i?” he hummed, watching you pull back and grin up at him. you looked so happy, he was sure he’d made the right decision to fly back. “i’m so proud of you.”
“thank you.” you softened, cheeks warming up when he reached behind him to pull a bouquet of tulips from his bag. glancing back to where your friends were stood, you beckoned one of them over. “come on, we need a picture.”
handing the girl your phone, you position yourself by oscar’s side. one arm around his waist, the other cradling your flowers. oscar mimicks your movements, his hand on your hip tugging you closer to his side. for a moment, you feel your heart flutter. it’s a totally new sensation, one you’d never felt for oscar before. you falter, nearly forgetting to smile until your friend reminds you.
ten minutes later, your little photoshoot is over, leaving you to take a quick swipe through the photos with oscar leaning over your shoulder. you find your favourite immediately. your head was leaning on his shoulder, graduation cap comically placed atop his head instead of yours. your smile is wide, but his is soft. he’s not looking at the camera, like you are, but down at your content expression.
you recognise the look on his face in an instant. you’d seen it before, your friends and their boyfriends. lando and luisa. but not on oscar — never on oscar.
“i like that one. send it to me, will you?” oscar murmurs, fixing your cap back on your head. you nod, throat dry and fixated on his hands in your hair. “i have to fly back tomorrow for the race so i’m treating you to a celebratory dinner; that little italian you love near london bridge.”
your chest tightens with fondness, never happier to have to cancel plans with your other friends. he’d come all this way just for you, booked your favourite restaurant just for you, skipped his practice race just for you. he’d brought a whole new bucket of feelings for you to deal with, and you had no idea how to.
“y/n? you okay?” oscar had obviously caught onto your spacing out, concern painting his pretty face. god, he’d never been pretty before.
possessed by this new crush, your body sprung before your mind could and you were kissing him. not kissing, per day. but you were up on your tiptoes, pressing your lips against his and jumping back before either one of you could do any more.
“fuck. shit, sorry,” you ramble out, cheeks burning and hands twitching nervously by your side. “i don’t know why i did that.”
you stare hard at the ground beneath you, desperate for it to open up and eat you whole. the pit in your stomach grows heavier and heavier, the sudden realisation that you may have just ruined the best thing to happen to you in the past year.
oscar’s looking at you in surprise when you finally gather the courage to peek up at him. your face twists, abhorring the quiet that’s gathered over the two of you. all of your classmates are celebrating around you, taking pictures and laughing, unaware of your life falling apart.
“i’ve waited ten months for you to do that,” oscar finally speaks, and he’s smiling. your eyes widen, unsure if the words were hallucinations or not.
“what?”
oscar grins, striding forward to cup his palms around your cheeks, and there’s that look again. that look that, apparently, you’ve been missing for a year. “i’ve been in love with you since the weekend you came to monza last year. lando told me to make a move but i didn’t want to risk losing you. you’re everything to me.”
your stomach twists again, but in the best possible way. pressing your hands to his chest, you pull him down to another kiss. a proper kiss, of course, spilling out everything past soft lips and interrupting giggles. all this time, how could you not know?
“about damn time,” you hear one of your friends jest behind you. you turn red again, burying your embarrassment in the soft fabric of oscar’s shirt. he doesn’t fluster at all, basking in the pride of being able to hold you in his arms without question.
“come back with me to belgium?” he whispers against your hair, unwilling to part with you just yet. you nod against his chest, not caring if your makeup smudges. all you care about is him.
“promise me one thing?” you asks, fingers winding through his. oscar nods, head cocking to the side. “we’ll still be best friends? talk to each other about everything? even if we kiss sometimes.”
oscar laughs, pressing his lips to your temple endearingly. “always.”

it’s still the 15 in la so forgive me for the late submission i’m adoring these least-to-most-likely scenarios and would love to hear your thoughts on the 2023 grid + danny, mick, and seb in terms of who’d successfully one day randomly pop up with a secret wife of ten years and three kids as if it were a casual thing
from least-to-most-likely... im sorry this is so long and a lil late
lando -> idk i think its a generational thing where soft launches & validation through social media is all the rave. so i think lando wouldnt or even couldn't hide it even if we wanted to. and i think lando likes showing off his girl, hes very comfortable in his relationships (ie talking about luisa in dts).
pierre -> absolutely not. he loves showing off what– rather who, he loves. i mean yall.... his photos with katerina are still up on his instagram he loves that shit. SO NO he will not being keeping a wife and family a secret. if he had it his way he would livestream his wife giving birth. tell me i'm wrong, i dare you.
logan -> he is a young, white man. and i mean white. american white. and if there is anything i know about caucasian men in all my years of dealing with them, there is no hiding a girl even if their life depended on it. same deal as lando too, where soft launches and the need for validation through posting is very much ingrained in the current dating culture sooooo yea.
fernando -> this man is so unserious, and also a boomer-wanna-be-gen-z when it comes to social media so its all about sharing his love and his corazon. though i will say he will be pretty selective with what he shares. and i think he'd pull a rosberg, in that he will post family photos but with emojis over his baby's faces.
nico -> something about this man just tells me that he enjoys the validation and the sharing a lot. we'd hear about the engagement, the pregnancy, all through instagram. but i think he'd do it in cringey cute way. my man is on pinterest with "cute pregnancy announcement inspo" in the search bar.
checo -> he is a proud papa & husband (minus that time in monaco). he loves having his family around him so there isn't a reason why he would ever keep it a secret. though i will say, much like he already does, he would try to keep his family/personal life very much seperate from his work. i think all we'd see of his family is when they show up to races or milestones/birthdays via social media.
charles -> i think he just loves sharing pieces of his life with us that keeping his family a secret would be impossible. charles would 100% walk onto the paddock with his daughter on his hip. they would be wearing matching sunglasses (raybans bc forza ferrari. and not her own pair, one of daddy's). but not outfits bc mama dressed her baby, not charles.
valterri -> he tries to keep what goes on in his personal life as on the down low as possible. i think that he would definitely try to keep his kids out of pap photos & try to hide their faces but other than that i think we would all be aware of his ever-growing family. i think he'd do smth cheesy like post a photo from the back of him and his son with matchin mullets. or maybe a photo of lewis carrying his daughter bc 'uncle lew had to get a matching outfit with his god daughter.'
oscar -> i could've lumped him higher on the list with lando/logan but smth about oscar tells me otherwise. like idk what it is about him but i think he'd try to keep it on the hush hush for as long as he can before eventually sharing with the world. we'd be surviving off soft launches for a WHILE methinks. (but i could be so wrong bc idk oscar this is just based off his face).
kevin -> we'd know (i mean we know now). but similar to fernando in a sense where he chooses what pieces of his time with his wife and kids he wants to share with the world. i think he is very protective of his family and the peace he's worked on building around them.
esteban -> you know... with the way his & elena's relationship is going i can definitely see this man randomly dropping that he's married one day. but the thing is, is that we would all already have an idea of who his wife is, if that makes sense. we'd get little bouts of content from him. a very 'private, not secret' type beat.
nyck -> just like esteban in a sense where we'd know who the wife would be. i think the marriage would come as a shock, but as their family grows i think he'd drop hints and stuff. nyck will definitely bring his kid(s) to at least one race a year and i just have an inkling that his child would be a menace.
alex -> he's happy to share the small moments with the world, but oh it would be very sparse. just little crumbs here and there. he protects what he loves so much, but he's much too proud and excited not to share. think of all the baby photos with all the animals. the matching hair-dos. the baby hating photos as much as dad hates media so when the paps come around baby has the same frown.
daniel -> we would know, but i think he would take his time introducing that part of his life to us. we'd always know he's married & has kids, but we would also have to live off of soft launches for a bit. daniel is a proud man, proud of the life he builds and who he chose to build it with. and daniel would 100% walk onto the paddock with his kids hanging off of him. his daughter on his back, son upside down in his arms.... do you see the vision???
lewis -> this man could go either way. on the one hand i can see lewis showing off the love of his life and his family bc thats what lewis does. he shows off the people he loves. but then i can also see him keeping it quiet, keeping just a piece of his life a secret because in the position he's in, he doesn't have too many secrets to himself left. so yeah... but tell me what yall think.
carlos -> carlos would've been lower on the list with all that 'i protect love' crap but me personally, i just don't see it. i think that we'd all somehow find out about his engagement + growing family somehow. like carlos is always being followed by the paps for literally WHAT. so yeah, i don't think it would be best kept secret. also he's such a family man, i think he'd jump at the opportunity to share his family with the world.
lance -> i know lance has posted his s.o. before, but there is something about this man that tells me when it's a love that he really really values and wants to protect, he will keep it a secret. he will keep them away from the limelight, from the unnecessary attention for as long as possible. idk about 10yrs and then pop out with a whole wife & kids, but i definitely think he'd be the type randomly drop on wednesday that he's engaged.
george -> i think this man could pull it off if he wanted to. i think he'd go ghost on social media in terms of what he does in his personal time. like itll be all race content until one day he just drops a photo of him & his wife welcoming their new baby. i can see it. but i think it all depends on him.
yuki -> idk i think in a relationship he'd be very reserved about it. i think that he'd hate the attention he would end up receiving about dating, so much so he'd prefer if no one knew right away. i think that we'd always know he's with someone bc of like soft launch-esque photos of hands/back of their head. but yeah we'd never truly know who until much much later.
guanyu -> guanyu truly gives me vibes of wanting to protect his family and try to keep them separate from his work. and not even in a malicious way, but in a sense where he doesn't want the people he loves most to be put under undeserving scrutiny. he'd find ways to bring them to races & events but truly, the public would never know.
max -> if were being completely honest here, we know so much about max's love life because of who he's involved with. but if he had it his way, i think we he would pull it off. like i think he would randomly drop the "my wife & kids" line out of no where and it would take the world by storm. and max would say it so nonchalantly too.
mick -> i think that he could pull it off. even in his last relationship, i dont recall ever seeing him post about/with her so... he is definitely a very very private guy. and he has a very tight group of friends at that, so i doubt any information would ever get out to the public unless mick makes a move first.
seb -> he's a very private guy, who didn't even have instagram until last year... and it was to announce his RETIREMENT. and though we know about hannah, we don't know much about his kids. i think i remember kym telling a story about how sebastian asked him & other photographers not to photograph his kids when they came on the paddock so.... seb will go through hoops and the extra mile to be sure a secret is kept.

Tío T.K. by @chicgeekgirl89
M | 6k
Another banger from writeallnight, y’all! I was so excited for this fic and it did not disappoint. This whole story is so soft and sweet, I love every single thing about it! Love this little glimpse of TK being competent and taking care of his loved ones, and Carlos’s family getting to see how well he takes care of his people. It’s so beautifully evident how much TK already means to Carlos’s family and how much they mean to TK.
Think It Over, Think It Under by @liminalmemories21
T | 13k
Six conversations TK has with one of Carlos’s sisters and one Carlos has with both of them. This was such a sweet look into Carlos’s complicated relationship with his family, and how his perceptions of his coming out are probably a lot different from his family’s. Also a really lovely outsider point of view into the Tarlos relationship, and watching Ana and Luisa grow to know and love TK not just for the adorable sweet person he is, but for how fiercely he loves and protects their Carlitos in a way that they have maybe neglected to.
Love From the Other Side by @lightningboltreader
E | 32k
Char, oh my gosh how I love this one!! Exes to lovers with only one bed!?!!? Misunderstandings! MEN CRYING!! This one’s got it all, folks. It’s a fun, funny yet angsty take on all of these tropes. Love the exploration of TK’s thought process leading up to and right after the break up, the insecurities he feels about not being good enough for anyone to stick around. And poor Carlos is just confused and mad and hot and sweaty about it. You know?
The lovely April by @ladytessa74
G | 10k
You already know I love Tessa’s Elijah universe! This one is a very soft little story about Carlos learning he needs to take care of himself in order to take care of the people he loves most. Carlos has let his fitness slip a bit in fatherhood, and his own father’s health concerns begin to creep up on him. Will he get it together so he can be the partner TK needs and the father little Elijah adores to run around with?
my beatin' heart belongs to you by bartsy
M | 9k
Really lovely look at Carlos’s anxiety after the loss of his father, and TK’s struggle to support him through it. TK is hurt at work a few months after the wedding. Carlos must come to terms with the fact that his anxieties are affecting TK and his other loved ones, and accept the fact that sometimes he needs to allow others to take care of him.
in the woods somewhere by @mooshkat
NR | 4k
This is a very sweet fic with a concept that I’ve never seen before, certainly not in this fandom. TK and Carlos are shapeshifters. TK is a playful fox who is drawn a handsome man who lives in a cabin in the woods. When TK gets caught in a trap he’s rescued by a beautiful wolf. What happens next?
Something Blue by @orchidscript
T | 10k
So cute and sweet and funny. Carlos goes to a tailor for a suit, but does he end up finding his soulmate instead? Carlos goes from wallflower, wanting to blend in at a family wedding to agreeing to wear a beautiful suit with an even more beautiful man on his arm. TK bringing Carlos color and confidence in every universe? Sign me up!
-WIPs-
Where All This Love Comes From by @carlos-in-glasses
E | 17k
Listen. Cig does not miss. Just call her DJ Khaled, because we got another one! It is banger after banger from her and, I swear, they just keep getting better. In this one, after making an alarming discovery TK attempts to have a conversation with Carlos about some concerns and opens up about his rough history with substance abuse, reflecting on a cold turkey detox, his parents’ complicated history with being there to support him and why meeting Carlos after all that trauma was hard for him to grapple with at first. Carlos reflects on his own complex relationship with his dad while attempting to find his killer.
His Royal Highness by @itsrandomnobody7
T | 7.6k
I’m really enjoying this Ever After-esque Tarlos AU! Carlos is a prince and TK is a commoner, they were childhood friends torn apart when evil Lord Billy Tyson (😝) discovered their friendship and put an end to it. Now as young adults TK is caught stealing food for his family and is sentenced to be a servant in the royal household. What will happen??
a chain reaction of countermoves by @strandnreyes
E | 23k
What a fun mystery! Set in canon, a few weeks after the fire that took the townhouse, the 126 gang takes a getaway trip to a lakeside cabin resort in hill country. Shortly after arrival Carlos notices something is off about the place. Is it his recent trauma that’s making him paranoid or is there really something sinister going on? LET’S FIND OUT! The tension is heightened by the looming breakup, and I’m loving all the winks to future canon that Jen’s weaving in to the story.
in uncertain terms by @iinryer
G | 37k
One of my favorite fics of all time updated for the first time in a year. Cue me losing my mind a little bit. I cannot tell you how much I love this fic. It’s a glorious exploration of Marjan as a character, her perception of herself and (my favorite part) her friendship with TK. Give me ALL the Marjan TK besties fics. I live for it. This is set in canon shortly after Salim breaks off their engagement. Marjan is injured at work and has a lot of down time to do some self exploration. This author really, really gets Marjan and gives us god-level characterizations all around but especially Marjan, TK & Nancy.
As always, this is not in any way a comprehensive list of all the good stuff that came out in Novrmber. This is the stuff that I was able to read and vibed with. This is a way for me to hype the stories that got me excited this month, and I encourage everybody to be intentional in reblogging fics and screaming about the stuff you’re reading and enjoying all month long. Let’s work to build this fandom into a more inclusive and encouraging place to create!

Carlos smiles softly as he watches Ana swing his nephew around on the dance floor to Kanye West’s “Gold Digger;” a song that he’d definitely put on the no-play list and apparently T.K. had taken right back off again.
In the end, the hours they spent agonizing over the playlist for the DJ, the color of the napkins, and the font for the invitations don’t even matter. They’re not what he’ll remember from tonight.
When he thinks of this night for the rest of his life he’ll remember the tears in T.K.’s eyes as he said his vows, the way it felt to hold him during their first dance, and the joy on their friends’ faces as they smeared cake all over each other. He’ll feel the ache in his heart over the way his mother’s eyes had gone glassy while she pinned on his boutonniere, the way Luisa had clung just a little tighter than normal to her husband’s hand, the way he kept looking for his father in the crowd only to remember that he’ll never see him again.
The joy and the grief are twined together in his soul in a way that he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to separate. And he can only hope that one day they bloom into something that feels like peace.
The day hasn’t been perfect; he’s not sure anything is ever going to feel perfect again. But it has been good. Their family, their friends, their love, it’s all so, incredibly good.
What’s not good is that he hasn’t laid eyes on his husband in nearly thirty minutes. Having T.K. by his side is the only thing that has made today bearable, and now that he’s not here Carlos feels adrift and exhausted.
His eyes search the crowd, taking in Nancy and Mateo who are slow dancing and both more than a little tipsy, his mom talking with one of the caterers about what to do with the leftover cake, Owen chatting with his brother and their family. But T.K.’s sweet face still eludes him.
He’s about to get up and go conduct a physical search of the premises, but then a hand, its weight familiar even if the gold band on the third finger is still slightly foreign, squeezes his shoulder and T.K. drops into the seat next to him, a plate in his hands.
His jacket and tie are gone, the top few buttons of his shirt open so that Carlos can see his medallion gleaming in the soft lights that illuminate the dance floor. His hair is a wreck, sweaty and all over the place, and there’s this glow about him, like the joy of the day has lit up his body from the inside out.
He’s never looked more beautiful.
“How many pieces of cake have you had?” Carlos asks, a fond smile on his lips.
“Three? Four? No idea babe,” T.K. says spearing another forkful. “It’s our wedding day, the calories don’t count. Want a bite?”
He extends his hand, but Carlos shakes his head. “I’m good thanks.”
Instead of eating it T.K. sets the plate and fork on the table then leans forward and puts a hand on Carlos’ knee, studying his face. “You’re tired,” he says softly.
“I’m okay,” Carlos assures him. “I’m—I’m so happy T.K.”
“I know you are. But you’ve barely slept this week,” T.K. says. “It’s okay to be happy and want today to be over.”
Leave it to T.K. to put what he’s feeling into words. He doesn’t want this day to end; he wants to stay here and dance and laugh and feel the sparkling joy of forever with those he loves. But he also wants to curl up in bed with T.K., wrapped in the quiet softness of his arms, and be alone together.
Sometimes his husband knows him better than he knows himself.
He must stay quiet for too long, because T.K. squeezes his knee. “Let’s leave.”
“We can’t leave,” Carlos tells him, checking his watch. “We still have another hour of the reception.”
“Is there a rule that says we have to stay for the whole thing?”
“Well we paid for the whole thing, so we probably should.” He looks out at the crowd again. Paul and Marjan are yucking it up on the dance floor while Asha laughs, Judd and Grace cheering them on. His mom is bringing drinks to his sisters who are watching the kids play with a bunch of glow sticks the staff just provided. It’s beautiful and bright and there’s no way they can leave it behind.
“It’s our wedding,” T.K. says. “We can do whatever we want.”
Carlos hesitates. It’s so tempting. It’s what he really wants. But T.K. is here, eating cake, and clearly having the time of his life. He can’t pull his new husband away just because he’s tired. “I’m really okay,” he says again. “Go back out there and dance.”
T.K. stands, but he doesn’t head back toward their family and friends. Instead he holds out a hand. “Come on.”
Carlos takes it and T.K. pulls him to his feet and then toward the building, away from where the party is. “T.K. where are we going?” he asks.
“We’re leaving,” T.K. says. “And before you say anything,” he continues, cutting off Carlos’ protest, “this is what I want. This day has been…it has been everything I dreamed it would be and more Carlos. But our marriage isn’t about today, it’s about the rest of our lives. And taking care of you is the most important thing I’ll ever do. So we’re leaving. Okay?”
He gives Carlos’ hand a squeeze and tugs him along down the hallway toward the rooms where they’d gotten ready this morning. It takes only minutes for Carlos to pack up his things. Everything is neat and tidy, just the way he left it. T.K.’s room on the other hand is a bit of a wreck and Carlos would tease him about it if he wasn’t so ready to get out of here.
Instead he helps T.K. hunt for a missing sneaker, fetches his toiletry kit from the bathroom, and waits patiently as T.K. stuffs the clothes he came in into a duffel bag.
He’s zipping it closed when the door opens and Ana walks in. She immediately yelps and claps a hand over her eyes, then drops it just as suddenly. “Sorry, sorry! I saw you two and assumed I was walking in on reception sex, but you’re both fully clothed so, obviously not. Or you were about to have reception sex and I interrupted. In which case sorry again.”
“Ana what are you doing down here?” Carlos asks.
“The kids and I are playing hide and seek. So far I’m winning,” she says. “Why are you fully clothed? And packing a duffel bag? Are you about to make an Irish exit from your own wedding?”
Carlos looks at T.K. then back at his sister. “Yes,” he says.
Her eyes go soft with understanding. “Good. I’ll cover for you with Mom, okay?”
He opens his arms and she walks into them. She’s his big sister, but he’s been taller than her for years and he easily envelopes her in a hug. “Love you,” he mumbles into her hair.
“Love you too Carlitos,” she says, her voice a little rough, like she’s holding back tears. “And you T.K.,” she says when they pull apart, going in to hug him too. “Now go. Get out of here. Go start your life together.”
The Camaro is still where he parked it twelve hours ago and just remembering how long the day has been has Carlos sagging a little with fatigue. “I’ll drive,” T.K. offers, and Carlos hands over the keys without resistance.
They’re married now, the Camaro is half his anyway.
Funny how he thinks of everything they own as half T.K.’s except for his heart. That’s belonged to him fully since day one.
“Are you hungry?” T.K. asks as he starts the car. “We can stop and pick something up.”
“Not really,” Carlos says. “We can always order room service at the hotel when we get there.”
Owen booked them a room at some swanky place in downtown Austin where they’re staying for a couple nights before they leave for their honeymoon. They have the honeymoon suite which boasts a jacuzzi, a balcony, a king size bed, access to the hotel’s spa, and a butler. It’s incredibly generous of his father-in-law, and if it were any other time, Carlos would be looking forward to all the things they’re about to do in that hotel room. But tonight? He’s just so. damn. tired.
He must fall asleep on the drive because the next thing he knows T.K. is squeezing his bicep gently and he’s blinking gritty eyes open. Maybe it’s the lack of sleep or the emotions of the day, but he doesn’t recognize where they are until he stumbles blearily out of the car. He turns and looks at T.K. in confusion over the Camaro’s hood.
“My dad called the hotel and asked them to push the reservation to tomorrow,” T.K. says. “After he explained, they were more than willing to accommodate us. I thought tonight—“ He looks up at the brick building in front of them, “—it felt like you might just want to be home.”
This is what finally breaks him.
It’s as if the center of his chest rips open and he caves inward, wrapping his arms around his ribs to try and hold himself together. How is it possible to feel so elated and so anguished at the same time?
T.K. is there, his hands coming up to cradle Carlos’ face. “It’s okay baby,” he says. “You’re okay.”
“Thank you,” Carlos manages, his voice cracking over the words. “T.K. I—“
“Shh,” T.K. soothes. He presses a kiss to Carlos’ forehead. “Come on, let’s go inside.”
Carlos leans heavily against T.K. in the elevator. They’re halfway up before he realizes they didn’t bring in their bags and says as much to T.K. “We’ll get them tomorrow,” T.K. tells him gently. “There’s nothing in there that can’t wait until morning.”
Carlos clings to him like a child, tears still streaming freely as T.K. rubs his arm and murmurs sweet things into is curls while they wait for the elevator to reach their floor.
“Why don’t you go take a shower?” T.K. suggests once they’re inside the loft. “I’ll make us some tea.”
It’s ridiculous, but the thought of being separated from T.K. for even as long as cleaning himself up feels impossible to bear. “Come with me?” Carlos asks. “Please?”
“Yeah, baby. Of course.” T.K. brings Carlos’ knuckles to his lips for a kiss and then guides him toward the bathroom.
Carlos doesn’t realize his hands are shaking until he starts trying to undo the buttons on his shirt. He only manages a few before T.K. takes over, strong, capable, and steady. When he finishes Carlos slides it off, letting it drop to the floor without caring that it’s not anywhere close to their laundry basket. His undershirt, pants, boxer briefs, and socks join it as T.K. turns on the spray of the shower.
Carlos steps in, the water hitting him in the face, not fully warm yet. He closes his eyes and lets it pour down, holding his breath until his lungs feel like they might burst. He only releases it when he feels T.K. step in behind him, his husband’s hand finding the small of his back. Carlos leans into him as T.K. presses a soft kiss into the skin of his shoulder before reaching around Carlos for the shampoo.
“I can do it,” Carlos tells him.
“It’s okay,” T.K. says softly. “I got it.”
T.K.’s hands work through his curls first, soft and gentle, and then down the rest of his body. The water washes away the sweat and the tears, but not the ache that now lives permanently between Carlos’ ribs. It hurts more with every breath and he struggles to try and push past it. He doesn’t want to feel this. Not tonight.
“Go dry off,” T.K. says when all the suds have been rinsed away. “I’ll be out in a minute.”
Carlos towels off, pulling on a pair of sweatpants before sinking down on the edge of their bed. He should do something. It’s their wedding night. He should pour sparkling cider or sprinkle rose petals or find the leftover chocolate covered strawberries his sisters brought to their family dinner that are somewhere in the back of the fridge. But he can’t make himself move. All he can do is sit and try to remind himself how to breathe. In, out. In, out. In…
T.K. steps out of the bathroom in a clean pair of boxer briefs, the scent of their shower swirling around him. He’s gathered up their soiled clothes from the bathroom floor and Carlos watches as he sorts them out according to their laundry system. It’s this small act of love that causes tears to well and begin falling silently all over again. He’s married someone so good, so tender hearted. A man who takes the time to care for the pieces that Carlos can’t right now.
“I love you,” Carlos says, the words somewhere between a croak and whisper. He wishes for all the world that there were better words. Love is not strong enough for the feeling that lives inside him because T.K. Strand is his.
T.K. closes up the hamper and comes to him, his hands cupping Carlos’ face and wiping the tears away. “I love you too.” He looks into Carlos’ eyes, searching for something, though Carlos doesn’t know what. “Do you want tea?”
Carlos shakes his head and tilts his chin up. T.K. understands his wordless request and meets him, their lips coming together in a brief kiss. “Let’s go to bed,” T.K. says softly, brushing his thumb over Carlos’ cheek one more time before leaving him to slide beneath the covers on his own side of the bed.
Carlos joins him in the middle of the mattress, hands reaching to pull T.K.’s body into his. He’s desperate to close his eyes and succumb to the oblivion of sleep, but his husband deserves something more. Something better.
He kisses T.K. once, then again, trying to say without words what he’s feeling, like maybe if T.K. can feel it too he’ll be able to help Carlos make some sense of the tangled emotions knotting themselves around his heart.
T.K. kisses him back, his hand coming up to rest on Carlos’ side, unusually still, just his thumb moving back and forth in a soothing motion. Carlos takes a breath and pulls him closer, deepening the kiss, the warmth of T.K.’s mouth a familiar comfort against his own.
He finds the waistband of T.K.’s briefs and begins to slide them down his hip, but T.K. covers Carlos’ hand with his own breaking their kiss. “Baby no, not tonight,” he says quietly.
Carlos feels like he’s grasping at straws. There’s a script for how a wedding day is supposed to go, and T.K. has been nothing but gracious as they’ve improvised the whole thing instead. But there are expectations about how the night is supposed to end and Carlos can’t stand the thought of T.K. being disappointed if it doesn’t. “But it’s our wedding night. It should be special. You deserve to feel special.”
His voice breaks as he says it, the words coming out almost like a whimper.
“Oh Carlos. You are in the midst of unspeakable grief and you chose me anyway. That is,” T.K. swallows hard, his eyes growing bright with tears, “that is more than I could ever have asked for. I don’t need your body to make me feel special tonight.”
Carlos inhales a shaky, uncertain breath. “Are you sure?”
“You’re exhausted and grieving. This isn’t the moment. It will be. But not tonight. Tonight we both need to rest.” He gives Carlos a watery smile. “I’m not exactly in the right headspace either.”
Carlos’ heart squeezes in his chest. He’s spent the last few hours so overwhelmed with his own pain that he hasn’t thought of T.K.’s. “Your mom?” he asks.
T.K. nods, his mouth twisting a little, like he’s trying not to cry. “I miss her.”
“I miss her too,” Carlos tells him. “I wish she could see you. She’d be so proud.”
“I thinks she can,” T.K. says. “I hope she knows that I chose right. That you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I hope she knows how incredibly happy you make me.”
Carlos absorbs his words and feels them touch on a something he’s been feeling for the last week but hasn’t quite had the words for. “I’m sorry,” he says.
T.K. furrows his brow and brushes a hand through Carlos’ damp curls. “For what?”
“When your mom died, I thought…I thought I understood. I thought I knew how deep your pain was and that I could be a part of fixing it for you. I didn’t know,” he swallows down a sob that gets stuck in his chest where it aches and aches, “I didn’t know that it’s unfixable. I didn’t know how deeply losing someone breaks you. I wasn’t enough for you then. I didn’t do the right things or say the right things and I—“
“Carlos, Carlos stop,” T.K. soothes. “You were enough. You were everything I needed, even though you couldn’t understand.” He bites his lip, his soft gaze full of compassion and sorrow. “And I’m sorry that you do now.”
“It’s too much,” he says, his voice cracking. “I don’t know—god everything hurts. I don’t know how I can hurt so badly and feel so much love for you at the same time.”
“It’s okay,” T.K. tells him. “Don’t try to figure it out. It will ease.”
“It doesn’t feel like it will,” Carlos tells him, giving voice to the fear that’s eating inside him. He doesn’t want to be like this forever and he’s terrified that he’s just forced T.K. into marriage with a grief stricken monster.
“It will,” T.K. says. “You can trust me, it will.” He kisses Carlos’ knuckles. “Turn over. Let me rub your back.”
He’s too tired and sad to protest, so he does as his husband asks. T.K. moves his fingers slowly up and down Carlos’ spine. Carlos turns his head so he can see him, focusing on the feel of T.K.’s fingers against his skin and his eyes immediately begin to slide shut. “I love you,” T.K. tells him again and again and again, the only weapon he has to wield against Carlos’ exhausted grief. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” Carlos says, his words slurring with sleep. “I love you.”
When Carlos wakes in the morning he feels rested for the first time in days. His head aches, his eyes feel gritty, and his face is stinging and raw from the salt of last night’s tears, but he doesn’t have that spinning, dizziness that comes with lack of sleep or the immediate feeling his gut that something is wrong. He remembers within seconds, he always does, that his father is gone. But it’s immediately followed by a second, much more welcome thought; he has a husband.
He shifts a little and reaches out blindly, his hand landing on T.K.’s thigh. When he manages to blink his eyes open he finds T.K. sitting up against the headboard, smiling fondly down at him. “Good morning husband,” he says softly, brushing his fingers through Carlos’ curls.
“Good morning,” Carlos says, smiling back. He rolls onto his back and captures T.K.’s hand, staring at the gold band encircling his finger. “You’re happy?” he asks, looking up to meet T.K.’s eyes.
“So happy,” T.K. assures him. “So, blissfully happy.”
“Me too,” Carlos says. He shifts a little, brow furrowing when he sees what’s in T.K.’s lap. “Are you reading my book?”
“I am,” T.K. says.
Carlos furrows his brow. “You don’t read. And you definitely don’t read my smutty romance novels.”
“That’s true. But you’ve been asleep for a long time and I needed a way to entertain myself because you seemed very reluctant to let me go last night. I didn’t want you to wake up alone.”
It’s crazy how T.K.’s words can light him up from the inside out. The level of care T.K. lavishes on him is unparalleled. “Thank you,” Carlos says softly. “What time is it?”
T.K. glances at the clock. “A little after eleven.”
“Eleven!” Carlos startles. “I slept for twelve hours?!”
“It’s good babe. You’ve barely gotten any sleep this week. You needed the rest.”
Carlos is still shocked. “How long have you been awake?”
“Since like eight.”
“You sat here with me for three hours?”
“I did get up and go to the bathroom,” T.K. admits. “But I was very quick. I wanted to get back and find out why Alex hates Henry so much.”
Carlos snorts. “He doesn’t hate him.”
“Oh I got that,” T.K. says. “The blatant horniness practically leaps off the page.”
“Don’t make fun of my book.”
“I’m not! I’m not!” T.K. chuckles. “It’s sweet the way they want each other.”
“That’s why I picked it,” Carlos says. “It felt like it might be fun to read before our wedding. Two young men falling desperately in love.”
“Just like us,” T.K. says, locking their fingers together. “I am desperately, desperately in love with you Carlos Reyes. Always have been. Always will be.”
“Soulmates,” Carlos says softly.
T.K. nods. “Soulmates.”
He pushes himself up so they can kiss, long and sweet. When he pulls back he grimaces. “Sorry. Morning breath. I didn’t brush my teeth last night.”
“Yeah I knew you were out of it because you skipped that and the seven step skincare routine,” T.K. teases lightly.
“Is this what marriage is going to be? You making fun of my books and my self care routine?”
“Absolutely,” T.K. says immediately. “It was a footnote in my vows. I vow to take care and nurture you heart for the rest of my life and also mock you mercilessly as is my right as your husband.”
“Damn,” Carlos snaps his fingers. “I knew I should have read the fine print.”
“Too late. You’re stuck with me,” T.K. says.
“Stuck with someone who puts off our hotel reservation and stays with me in bed all morning. Not a bad way to be stuck,” Carlos says, partly to T.K. and partly to himself.
“How do you feel this morning?” T.K. asks.
Carlos considers this. “Better,” he says. “Lighter.”
“We don’t have to go to the hotel,” T.K. tells him. “We don’t even have to go on our honeymoon if you’re not feeling up to it. We can cancel the whole thing and just stay here.”
It feels overwhelming to try and make that decision. He feels okay now, in control of the grief instead of letting it consume him the way it had last night. But his hold on it feels tentative and he’s not sure what tomorrow or even the next few hours will bring.
T.K. seems to sense this. “One thing at a time,” he says. “Do you want to go to the hotel?”
“Yes.” Carlos is a little surprised by how quickly the answer comes, but the thought of spending time with T.K. in such an incredible space feels safe enough. They’ll be close to home, they can always come back if he falls apart. “Yes I want to.”
T.K. beams at him. “Me too. Let’s go.”
Their bags are still packed and in the car, they hadn’t planned on coming back home after the wedding at all, so they’re ready to go in a matter of hours.
Carlos drives this time, T.K.’s hand tucked into his most of the way. He keeps rubbing his fingers over the cool metal of T.K.’s wedding band. In so many ways it feels like they’ve been married since the day T.K. came home to the loft, but having this tangible, visible reminder of their love feels so incredibly special.
They pull up to the valet and Carlos brings T.K.’s hand up to his lips, kissing his knuckles. “All right, save it for the jacuzzi,” T.K. teases, making him smile.
The joy he’d felt yesterday during the ceremony and the beginning of the reception feels like it’s rekindling in his chest. He’s married. For real this time. To a man who holds his heart and his body with care and love. It’s more than he ever could have dreamed of.
They check in and are immediately swept into five diamond luxury. Their bags are whisked away and they’re given fresh, fruit flavored water before being ushered upstairs by their personal butler Victor. It feels slightly ridiculous, they’re a paramedic and a police officer, not the Kardashians, and he catches T.K.’s eye more than once in the elevator, his husband looking like he’s about to burst into laughter at the poshness of it all. This absolutely feels like something Owen Strand would enjoy and is far too rich for the two of them.
“Mr. and Mr. Strand-Reyes,” Victor says as they reach the penthouse floor and Carlos bites back a laugh because of course Owen made sure the reservation went his way on the hyphenation, “welcome to your suite.”
The door slides open and they walk into a room so big the loft could fit in it three times over. There are floor to ceiling windows that highlight the downtown world of Austin, along with a king size bed covered in rose petals, a freaking chandelier hanging from the ceiling, a bottle of sparkling cider on ice, and a tray of handcrafted pastry treats. They can’t see the bathroom from where they’re standing, but Carlos has a feeling it’s equally as grand as the rest of the room.
Victor explains the call button to them and gives them a tour of the space (the bathroom is indeed huge and Carlos feels T.K. squeeze his hand when Vincenzo shows them how to work the jacuzzi), while a second hotel employee delivers their bags and begins to unpack for them.
It’s everything last night should have been and Carlos resolves to make up for ending their wedding night in tears. Tonight? Tonight things are going to be perfect.
“Well, your dad really outdid himself,” Carlos says when Victor takes his leave. “If Owen Strand was a hotel room, this is what he’d be.”
“My dad does enjoy going overboard,” T.K. says, hopping up onto the bed and bouncing a little. “How much do you think it’s going to cost if we break that chair over there?”
“More money than we’ll ever make in our lifetime,” Carlos says.
“That’s what I thought.” T.K. flops all the way down onto the comforter, rose petals fluttering around him. “Oh my god this bed is amazing. Babe, come here.”
He wiggles a hand and Carlos huffs a fond chuckle as he walks over to join him. They lie flat on their backs staring up at the crystals of the chandelier, sparkling with tiny rainbows as they catch the light of the late afternoon Austin sunlight. “We’re married,” T.K. says softly. He turns his head and looks at Carlos. “You kissed me in a honky tonk bathroom and then you married me.”
That night seems like a million years ago and yet Carlos can still feel every second of it in his bones. The instant he’d looked into those green eyes he should have known this was where they’d end up. It was inevitable. “This is a little nicer than that bathroom,” he says, his eyes dropping to T.K.’s lips.
“It is,” T.K. agrees, leaning closer, that half lidded, wanting look on his face.
The kiss is soft, the perfume of the rose petals filling the air as they’re crushed beneath their bodies. Carlos doesn’t wait long before rolling so that he’s hovering over T.K. There’s an urgency thrumming through his veins, but he refuses to give into it. He doesn’t want to rush this moment. He wants it to be like that first night, so bright and sharp that it writes itself on his very soul so he can relive it over and over again in the years to come.
“Let’s get this off,” Carlos murmurs, sitting back so that T.K. can push himself upward. They work together to remove his shirt and then he lays back down again while Carlos makes quick work of his sneakers and then undoes the button on his pants, slowly sliding them down his legs.
T.K. puts his hands behind his head, his eyes following Carlos’ every move. “Yours too,” he says when Carlos goes to rejoin him, still fully clothed.
Carlos shakes his head. “Let me take care of you first.”
But T.K. sits up again, his hands coming to rest on Carlos’ hips. “If you’re taking care of me, then you should give me what I want,” he says, tilting his head to the side and looking up at Carlos from underneath his lashes. When Carlos doesn’t move T.K. lifts the hem of his shirt with one hand and presses a kiss into the softness below his navel, causing the muscles in Carlos’ stomach to clench with want. He drops one hand into T.K.’s hair, tightening it when T.K.’s teeth scrape gently across his skin. “Okay,” he breathes. “You win.”
T.K. smirks up at him. “I usually do.”
Bastard. He always does.
Carlos pulls off his shirt and throws it somewhere to be found later and then lets his pants join it. “Better,” T.K. says as he reclines once more, his eyes going dark as he drinks in the miles of bare skin Carlos has exposed.
Carlos presses his knees into the mattress, straddling T.K.’s hips. He gazes down, memorizing the sight of him with a halo of rose petals scattered around his head. T.K.’s lips are already pink from their kisses, his cheeks flushed with desire even though they’ve barely started. He’s so achingly gorgeous that it takes Carlos’ breath away.
T.K. reaches up to cradle his face. “You’re my husband,” he says. “We take care of each other.”
Husband. Carlos lowers his head and kisses T.K. once, then again. He breathes the word into his mouth, marks it into his skin with his teeth, paints it with his tongue into the lines of his stomach and hips until not a single part of him is unclaimed. Nothing about them has changed physically, but those two syllables make everything feel different. His mind knows and he ensures T.K.’s body does too.
It’s soft and slow, the minutes melting into hours as they take their time finding their way through this new level of intimacy.
In between, when they’re catching their breath, they drink the sparkling cider and feed each other pastries in a tangle of bedsheets before falling back into each other’s arms again. By the time the sky turns pink with dusk Carlos feels boneless with pleasure. He never wants to leave this bed. He never wants to be separated from T.K. again.
“I’m hungry,” T.K. says from where his head is pillowed on Carlos’ chest. He’s stroking his fingers slowly up and down in the space between Carlos’ hip and his ribs. “Let’s order room service.”
Carlos’ stomach rumbles in agreement, putting an end to his plans to stay in this bed forever. “Good idea,” he says, pressing a kiss to T.K.’s hair. “Go ahead and grab the menu.”
T.K. props himself up so he can look at Carlos. “Oh I have to be the one to leave the bed?”
“Well you’re on top right now,” Carlos reminds him. “And you did say you wanted to take care of me.”
“I believe I said we take care of each other,” T.K. reminds him, poking a finger into his stomach.
“Well if you get up I promise I will take care of you any way you want when you get back,” Carlos says with a grin.
T.K. huffs but rolls off the bed, walking across the room without bothering to put any clothes on. Carlos sits up against the pillows, watching as his husband walks across the room and grabs the menu off the table. He smirks when he turns around and catches Carlos staring. “Like what you see?”
“Always,” Carlos says.
T.K. plops back onto the bed, turning the menu over and reading through it. “How do we feel about duck confit tacos? Or strawberry goat cheese crostini?” He looks up at Carlos. “Let’s get both. It is on my dad after all.”
“Whatever you want,” Carlos says and means it. God he would do anything for this man, his heart is so full he feels like he could burst.
T.K. orders half the menu in the end and insists on a glass of wine for Carlos even though he says he doesn’t need it. “We’re celebrating,” T.K. says firmly. “You should drink the fancy wine.”
“Okay,” Carlos agrees. “If it will make you happy I will drink the wine.”
“Good,” T.K. says. He sits back and looks at Carlos. “How are you feeling?”
Carlos’ heart twinges and he tries to push it away. He doesn’t want anything to poke at their little bubble of happiness. “I’m fine,” he says, smiling and settling back beneath the sheets. “I’m happy T.K. Really. I’m not…last night won’t happen again.”
“It would be okay,” T.K. says softly, “if it did.”
Carlos swallows hard. “I don’t want to feel like that anymore.”
“I know,” T.K. says, his face compassionate. He squeezes Carlos’ knee through the sheets. “I wish I could tell you that you won’t. That the worst of it is over.”
“I know you can’t,” Carlos says. “I know it’s…I know it’s going to take time.”
T.K. nods and then leans over and reaches into his suitcase. “I got you something.”
Carlos holds out his hand and T.K. drops a silver chain into it. It coils in his palm and Carlos looks up at him questioningly. “When I’m on shift,” T.K. says, “I’m going to wear my ring on the chain with my medallion. I thought you might want a way to keep our ring and your dad’s ring close too.”
Carlos looks down to where both rings rest on his fingers, one of them a blessing, the other a reminder of his loss. Tears clog his throat at the thoughtfulness of his husband. “Thank you,” he says. “God, I love you so much, you know that?”
Instead of answering T.K. leans forward and kisses him. “I know,” he murmurs against Carlos’ lips. “Always and forever I know.”
The warmth and weight of their bodies pressing together makes Carlos thrum with want all over again and he pulls back reluctantly. “We should wait,” he says. “Victor will be here soon and we don’t want to give him a show.”
“Are you sure?” T.K. asks, ever the bad influence in their relationship.
“Later,” Carlos says, giving him another firm peck on the lips to finish it.
“Fine,” T.K. says with a roll of his eyes as he slides off the bed. “I have to go to the bathroom. Don’t do anything fun without me.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Carlos says as he disappears behind the bathroom door.
His phone chirps and he picks it up, his heart immediately squeezing with a lightning flash of pain. It’s a reminder about their flights tomorrow. They’re supposed to be on a two fifteen flight to Mexico. And they still haven’t decided if they’re going.
A second reminder pings onto the screen about their hotel reservation. He taps it and watches as it opens up to the hotel’s home page. His eyes drink in the sight of blue water, white sand, gorgeous pools, and stunning sunsets. It’s beautiful. The stuff honeymoon dreams are made of.
He hears the toilet flush and the water run in the sink before T.K. reappears, now dressed in a massively fluffy white robe with the hotel’s logo embroidered over his heart. “I’m never taking this off,” T.K. says, holding out his arms so Carlos can get the full effect. “This is the softest thing I’ve ever put on. I feel like a WASPy woman from New England.”
He catches sight of Carlos’ face and cocks his head. “You okay?”
“Will you be disappointed if we don’t go to Mexico?”
“No,” he says immediately. “We can do it another time. Or never. It doesn’t matter to me. All that I care about is you feeling safe. If that means staying home then that’s what we’ll do.”
“T.K. the entire last week has been about me and what I need,” Carlos says softly. “What do you need? What do you want?”
“I want to do what’s best for you.”
“T.K.”
T.K. shakes his head and sits down on the edge of the bed. “Sorry babe. It’s all about you this time.” He flashes a smile. “Don’t worry, it will be all about me again someday.”
Carlos snorts. “I’m sure it will.”
“But for now you have to make the call. And if you can’t, then I’ll just tell you, we’re not going. I’m not taking you out of the country when you’re uncertain about it. If you barely made it through a vacation with your family out of state, we’re definitely not going somewhere that requires a passport to get back.”
Carlos’ heart tears a little bit. Hearing T.K. talk about them not going hurts. They’ve both used up so much vacation time, there’s no chance they’ll be able to go again in the next calendar year. “I think we should go,” he says, testing the words out to see how they feel.
T.K. looks at him intently. “Are you sure?”
Carlos glances down at the pictures again. “So much about the last few months has been us trying to scramble and fix things. We had to rush to plan the wedding and then we barely made it to the altar at all. This is one thing we can do that fits the script of getting married. I think it might feel good to do something normal. We need a break. We need time and space. I think,” he swallows, “I think that’s what my dad would want for us.”
“I think so too,” T.K. says.
It feels right. “Then we’re going.”
T.K.’s face breaks into that sunshine filled, elated grin that took Carlos’ breath away on that honky tonk dance floor three years ago. “Baby! We’re going to Mexico!”
He launches himself at Carlos, tackling him into the mattress and kissing whatever part of him is closest to his mouth. Carlos laughs and pushes him off. “Stop! Victor’s going to be here any minute.” He looks around and winces. “Maybe we should clean up a little.”
The room looks like they’ve been having a sex marathon. Their clothes are everywhere, the sheets and duvet are practically on the floor, and somehow they’ve knocked over the fake potted plant in the corner.
T.K. rolls his eyes. “I’m pretty sure Victor knows what people get up to in here. It’s fine.”
Carlos starts to get up. “I’m just going to move—“
T.K. grabs his hand and forces him to stay. “Do not get out of this bed. We only have so many hours left and we are not wasting time cleaning up.”
Carlos gives him a look. “Fine then. What do you want to do while we wait that doesn’t involve sex or cleaning?”
T.K. flops onto his side of the bed. “Read me some more of your smutty book.”
“Seriously?”
“Yes seriously. I want to know what happens on New Year’s Eve.”
Carlos laughs as he reaches down beside the bed and retrieves the book from his bag. “I’ll make a romance reader out of you yet,” he says as T.K. snuggles into his side.
“One book,” T.K. says. “I’m not committing to liking an entire genre. Don’t invite me to your book club.”
“That’s how it starts. One book and then another and then another…”
“Not happening babe.”
Carlos smiles fondly. “Good thing I have the rest of our lives to try and convince you.”

How did fractured Luisa react when she find out that Pedro abused Mirabel?
*fan girl screaming* You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this question.
Very, very sickened.
Warning: sensitive topics below.
~~~~~~
And Yet He Shot the Fawn
Luisa almost forgot what she was meant to be doing. A hug is the furthest thing in her mind. She is too busy staring at Mirabel’s back, neck and upper arms through the tears in her blouse, now that she’s closer… it looks awful. She can see the inside of Mirabel’s neck in one of the cuts.
Some of them are deep, like slices. Some are barely there. Some raised on her skin. Some are bloody and leaking profusely. Some are pink and angry. Some are white and fading.
There isn’t a patch of skin that isn’t marked.
All this time Luisa and Camilo have mocked Mirabel’s perfect posture and stiff back and shoulders…
No wonder. She looks like she would shatter.
But how did she get these injuries?
They look too precise to be an accident or an animal. Mirabel wouldn’t get into a fight. And it’s not like she could have done it herself, the angle is wrong.
It has to be someone else. Nobody spends time alone with her…
“Abuelo did it.”
Mirabel’s coldness broke a little at the name. She paled and took a small step back.
“You are tired and stressed, Luisa. You should get some rest—”
“He did. Didn’t he?”
Mirabel shifted from one foot to the other. “He and my tutors.”
There’s been so many tutors over the years. Is that why they were replaced so quickly? Coming and going from nowhere to prevent gossip?
All those adults… adults who were trusted by their family.
“When?” Luisa asked.
“I-I lost count; I don’t know the dates… it started when I was six. It hasn’t stopped.”
Is that why her blouse is all bloody and ripped now? Is that why Abuelo had been in her room just now? Is that why he has a riding crop - even though he has never owned a horse?
Has he been using a weapon on her this whole time?
“Why?”
“You have to understand that he isn’t doing it to hurt me.” Mirabel insists. “I was making mistakes and getting emotional. He is doing it to help me. I failed. I was being a burden to our family, I had to be taught a lesson.”
She doesn’t actually believe this… does she?
“I should find our parents, or someone else in the family. They can help—”
“Nobody will care.”
“What?”
“I call them Señor and Señora. I can’t feel, Luisa. Everyone is scared of me. Or thinks I’m a heartless monster. Or both. I haven’t had a relationship with anyone since I was Antonio’s age.” Mirabel’s eyes and voice are wracked with distress; the rest of her is oddly calm. “I don’t know what it feels like to love and be loved anymore. Abuelo does not love me. He loves my gift - if it were to disappear tomorrow, he’d want nothing to do with me.”
A tear slips from her eye then.
Luisa hates herself.
She (and Camilo) have teased and mocked and bullied this girl senseless. Abuelo Pedro’s little favourite. Señorita sin corazón.
She remembers Mirabel before her ceremony, a very different girl, begging Luisa to protect her.
“I don’t want a gift,” she’d weeped under their beds, ten years ago. “I want to stay here with you in the nursery. It’s safe here.”
And fuck. She was right.
That whole thing with Isabela? All those years ago was true… Isabela wasn’t just being bossy and annoying when she’d hiss at them to stop. She knew it happened once. Does she know it’s still going on?
And their parents? How could they not know? Even if they didn’t believe Isabela back then, wouldn’t they have checked with Mirabel?
What about Tía Pepa? She heals people. She heals everyone. Didn’t she ever think it was strange how she’s never treated Mirabel in the past nine years?
“I heard the cracks that night.” Luisa gasps dramatically before she can stop herself. “I wasn’t sure with all the commotion at first. I told him when we went back into Antonio’s room. He said, ‘If you can’t use your gift correctly, I will bash your head into the wall until you do. Like a soft arepa.”
Luisa just put a hand over her mouth.
At least she’d just been made to look like she was drunk.
“He didn't say the arepa bit.” Mirabel said, flat. “I thought it would be funny. I thought if I could cry, I could smile too. I suppose not.”
Luisa felt bile in her throat.
My eyes widened in anticipation as I watched Luisa enter the room through the vanity mirror. Sighing softly, she closed the door behind her, finally locking her eyes onto mine. I gulped softly when they darted downwards, and watched as those warm brown eyes took in everything I was willing to offer to her tonight, wrapped up in a silky baby blue matching lingerie set.
Locking the door with the softest click, she quickly made her way over to me, rested her hands on my hips, and gently turned me around to face her.
She grinned softly as I pressed my chest against her and began to tug at the red ribbon that kept her hair in place throughout the day. She shook her head gently as her brown curls flowed freely against her back and shoulders, and tilted my head up gently in order to kiss me. I could never quite understand how her lips were so soft all of the time...
I giggled softly when I felt her scoop me up and place me on the vanity table, using one hand to caress my thigh while the other one pushed my leg to the side for her to stand in between them.
Luisa chuckled as she drifted to my neck, leaving small kisses and love bites all over my throat. I practically melted into her touch, sighing softly as each kiss moved further down to my chest, until she stopped right above them.
She looked up at me and smirked.
Did you doll yourself up for me, mi corazón? I would hope so...this is my favorite color on you mi amor... Looks so pretty against your skin.
I shuddered, nodding my head and groaning softly as she unclipped the bra and rested it elsewhere in the room. Turning her attention to my chest, she delicately rolled my nipple between her fingers while her tongue grazed the other, relishing in the moment as I hissed gently at her touch.
This isn't really fair you know? My tits are out and you're still -ohh- fully clothed...
Her fingers and mouth withdrew from me, causing me to open my eyes just in time to watch her hastily pull her shirt and bra off, flinging them across the room. I couldn't help but chuckle at her antics.
I didn't know you were that needy baby...
Luisa stuttered and blushed softly at my remark, leaning her face close to mine and giving me a quick peck on the lips.
Last time I checked you started this. If anyone here is needy, I'm pretty sure it's you.
It's not like you're complaining though.
She rolled her eyes gently as she pulled my hips closer to the edge of the dresser. I sighed softly as her thumb ghosted over the front of my panties, which had become considerably wet since we started. My body began to quiver as her tongue dragged along my stomach, both of us groaning as her mouth got near my pussy.
Luisa, baby. Don't tease me, please...
Wasn't planning to, mi vida. But let's go somewhere more comfortable, hm?
She picked me up off the dresser and placed me in the center of the bed, joining me a few moments after, now completely naked. I couldn't help but to gaze in awe at the woman in front of me. Her workout schedule definitely showed the fruits of its labor in her firm, almost chiseled, arms and legs. Despite this though, she still managed to remain soft in all the right places. No matter how many times I got to see her like this, she never ceased to amaze me.
Before my thoughts could continue further, my thong had been pulled off of me in the blink of an eye, and I watched in anticipation as she lowered her face directly in front of my cunt.
Fuck beautiful, I could just eat you up...
I squeaked as she spread my lips apart with two fingers, her breath heavy and hot against my inner thigh.
Would you like me to do that cariño?
Quickly realizing how desperate I had become in a matter of minutes, I found myself needlessly trying to pull her head closer to me, aching to get her mouth on my pussy, glaring at her with slight annoyance when she wouldn't budge. I was instead gifted with a quick smack to my ass, jolting me forward on the bed in pure shock.
Use your words sweetheart. I can't know what you want if you won't tell me.
Fuck! Please, please mamí. I wanna feel good. Make me feel good please!
Make you feel good?
She smirked devilishly as I nodded desperately.
Oh, I can definitely do that.
She pulled me closer to her face, gingerly placed both of my thighs on her broad shoulders, and pressed her tongue flat on my pussy. Any wiggling I would attempt to do was stopped by her palm on my stomach, her fingers tracing abstract lines all over my skin.
Pussy tastes so good babygirl. Could stay here for hours.
Her tongue wiggled its way inside of me, causing her to groan deeply as I arched my back from how good everything felt.
YES!! Oh my God yes right THERE- FUCK!!
Her fingers had joined in the assault, two of them deep inside of me while her thumb danced along my clit. My thighs began to shake against her shoulders as I felt my climax quickly approaching. By now, her head was resting on my tummy, watching the way my body reacted smugly, skilled fingers practically dragging me to the edge.
You gonna cum on my fingers princesa?
I opened my mouth to moan her praises, but she silenced me with a kiss. She smiled softly at me.
You look so pretty like this mi amor. Go on, cum for me baby.
Her fingers picked up the pace a bit, watching in awe as I began to unravel from her work. With one last swipe of her thumb, my thighs clamped down on her arm, and I moaned loudly as I finally got my sweet realease.
After a few minutes, she gently removed her fingers from me and placed them in her mouth, effectively cleaning them off. Before she could do anything else, I pushed her down onto the bed below her and slotted my face between her legs.
Ready for round two baby?
Always, my love.
Giant siren Mirabel taking Antonio scavenging lol just tiny Antonio and his big cousin spending time together
OF COURSE 🦅 🦅🦅🦅<3333
—————
Antonio swam through the colorful reefs, swimming past the marketplace. Other sirens were selling goods, from food to shells, to precious pearls. Antonio wasn't looking around the market though. He was scavaging for human things.
It wasn't uncommon for ships to crash or sink near the Encanto islands. His abuela said that whenever the humans, especially pirates, got too close, they would always sink. He didn't know how though...whenever he asked, the adults would always say "I'll tell you when you're older." And if you asked him, he was pretty grown up. He asked one of the older kids who had just gained their tail, and they said that the humans were trying to attack the Guppy Grotto so they sank them to keep them safe.
Antonio knew there had been a recent wreck. Mirabel was nearby, looking near where the trenches were. He wasn't allowed over there yet, not by himself. His mamá said it was too dangerous, and while there were sirens down there, the water was too strong for him to swim in. Which he didn't mind.
"Oh!" Antonio's eyes sparkled with joy and curiosity as he swam closer to a part of the shipwreck he had finally found. It was a little ways away from the reef, on the lower parts of the ocean floor. He swam closer. A smaller ship, maybe a fisher ship? He wondered if there was any fish leftover...
As he swam closer, he saw something shiny in the corner of his eye. Getting closer, he could see the sun reflecting off of it in the clear waters. He carefully pushed the wood away, narrowly evading splinters. It was small, and silver, a round object. It was attached to a chain, but not like the anchor chains like the ones that his prima, Luisa, wore. It was smaller, lighter. He picked it up, his small webbed hands tracing it.
"Antonio!" Mirabel called, and he turned around. His prima and best friend swam up to him, a big smile on her face, her seaweed back hanging by her side. "Find anything interesting?"
Antonio showed off the small object he found. There was a small knob on the top, and he pressed it gently. It flew open, surprisingly both of them. Antonio recognized the numbers inside, but he still didn't know what it was.
Mirabel swam closer, eyeing it carefully. Her fins perked up as she finally realized what it was. "I've seen this before!" Mirabel said, cradling Antonio in her hands as he held the small thing. "I think they're called clocks...or was it watches? I'm not sure, but apparently, they're supposed to tell time!"
"Time? Like how we use the sun and shadows to tell time?" Antonio asked, looking up curiously at Mirabel, who nodded.
"Yup! I think humans forgot how to use the sun, so maybe that's why," Mirabel shrugged. She wasn't entirely sure herself though; she had only seen similar objects a handful of times.
Antonio hummed softly before dropping it into Mirabel's bag; it sank easily he noticed. Antonio went back towards the ship, searching it once more. This time, he had Mirabel's help. She easily picked up a part of the ship, and more stuff was revealed, the inside of the ship. Able to fit his smaller body in unlike his older cousin, he carefully looked around the wreck, not finding anything interesting. Just as he was about to tell Mirabel, he saw some sitting on the now broken cot in the corner.
He swam closer, pushing aside the broken furnishings and waterlogged books. He picked it up. It was soft, or at least as soft as it could be underwater. The buttons almost look like eyes. It looked like an animal but it wasn't...alive. Almost like one of the animals he would see on the island. It confused. Him.
Antonio swam out, going back to Mirabel, who was using her tail to push the wood towards the trenches. Deep sea sirens seemed to love the stuff and always requested shipwrecks be pushed to the trenches. Antonio sat in Mirabel's palm, hiping the small, unmoving animal. "What's this thing, Mira?"
Mirabel looked at the object, which was tiny compared to her, and even small but guppy standards. But she recognized it. She had seen it before a good amount of times. "Oh, it's a stuffed animal! Maybe a bear? Though adult humans don't use these..."
"Who does?" Antonio asked and Mirabel hesitated, her eyebrows furrowing before he shrugged and looked back at him.
"Little kids. Like human guppies. But as far as I know, there were no kids on the wreck," Mirabel said, mumbling the last part, which piqued Antonio's interest.
"Human guppies? Can I see?" Antonio asked with enthusiasm. Mirabel looked at him wide-eyed before taking the vear and putting it in her bag.
"Hey, how bout we go eat? We can explore more after lunch. Are you hungry?" Mirabel asked, quickly changing the subject. Antonio's eyes lit up at the suggestion of food.
"¡Sí!" Antonio beamed, and Mirabel held him carefully, swimming back towards their family's cave. Thankfully she was able to distract him from more questions. Though she failed to notice Antonio's gaze shifting from her bag, where the stuffed bear was, to the surface.
Was there really a kid on that ship?
—————
YEAHHHHHHH‼️ There was no way they weren’t gonna look through the wreck. They also go through the recent ones. Alma’s a little against it, but she doesn’t necessarily stop it. She’ll admit that some human stuff is useful. She tried to change the subject, but Antonio was totally still thinking about it, second.
Hii! I just started reading ur stuff and love it!❤️❤️
So if u dont mind can u do one where antonio wanders off with his animals and its up to mirabel and the rest of the family to find him?
Thanks!! Keep it up love these😍😍❤️
Hi, thank you so much! I appreciate that a lot! I'm sorry this took so long...I've had some writer's block but hopefully it's over now. Hope you like this!
Dinnertime in the Madrigal family tended to be a chaotic affair. With the various family members busy helping around town or running errands all day, it was a wonder they could eat together at all. But Alma insisted, and Julieta agreed, that they should try to eat together as a family. So, one way or another, they’d find their way back to their casita by dinnertime.
Usually, this involved some level of hunting people down. The Madrigals would rarely all be congregated at home by the time dinner rolled around, as their gifts and abilities were useful around town. Demand for them to use their gifts for others’ benefit had definitely lessened since they got their gifts back; the townspeople had learned how to take care of many things independently in the intervening months and were trying to keep it that way. But there were always new parents who needed rest and appreciated Camilo’s babysitting services for a stint. Or farmers needing some intervention when inclement weather struck. Or people with grave injuries in need of healing (Julieta and Isabela had taken it upon themselves to teach people some more basic healing techniques using plants and herbs after realizing just how burned out the two of them were). Or those stubborn donkeys that just kept getting out…
By the time Julieta announced dinner was ready, the kitchen was usually abuzz with inquiries as to people’s whereabouts and requests to get them back home, all overlapping in glorious cacophony.
“Dolores, go find your brother.”
“Where is he, mamá?”
“I’m not sure…last I heard he was helping señor Gonzalez who threw out his back fix his roof.”
“Wait, why wouldn’t Luisa help?”
“I think she was dealing with some other crisis at the time- where is Luisa anyway?”
“I’m right here, tía, what’s going on?”
“We’re looking for Camilo.”
“Well you found him!”
“Ay, Milo, that isn’t funny! You’re gonna give your poor mamá a heart attack!”
“Camilo, stop changing into your cousins.”
“Sorry, papá…”
“We still don’t know where Luisa is.”
“I’m right here, tía.”
“That’s not funny, Camilo.”
“I’m over here, mamá.”
“Ayyyy, who else is still missing?”
“Well, Antonio was helping me with the donkeys, is he back yet?”
“Antonio!”
Everyone stopped running abruptly, bumping into each other. Camilo winced, rubbing his forehead which had unfortunately hit Luisa’s side in the mayhem. Isabela picked up the shards of the plate she broke after colliding with Dolores. The latter mumbled an awkward apology, cradling her own elbow gingerly. Mirabel was off to the side, assessing the damage. Thankfully, the food had been spared, but otherwise the kitchen looked like a tornado had passed through it.
Judging by Pepa’s erratic breathing, this wasn’t out of the realm of possibility. She leaned against the counter, gripping it so tightly her knuckles turned white, and squeezed her eyes shut. A breeze batted around the loose tendrils of her hair as she tried desperately to calm herself.
“Antonio was helping you with the donkeys?” She repeated weakly, fanning her face with her hand.
Luisa nervously shifted her weight from one foot to the other. “Yeah. It was his idea actually. He figured it would be easier to corral the donkeys if he talked to them rather than having me carry them around town.” She stretched her arm carefully, groaning after a point. “I ran into him after finishing up moving the bridge, again, and he could see my shoulder was hurting me, so he volunteered to take care of the donkeys himself.”
Julieta let out a soft gasp, covering her open mouth with her hand. “You got hurt, Lu? Why didn’t you say anything, querida?” Turning around, she rummaged around the basket by the door and fished out a buñuelo. “Here.” She held it out towards her daughter.
Luisa shrugged, accepting the proffered food and taking a bite. She gave her arm another tentative stretch, sighing in relief when she could actually stretch it all the way. “Thanks, mamá. I guess I didn’t think it was that bad? I figured I’d just take some of your food later, like I always do,” she added as an afterthought.
“Like you always-“ Julieta started incredulously, but was interrupted by Pepa holding up her hand.
“Luisa, I’m sorry you got hurt, and you shouldn’t be trying to hide it, but right now my son is missing.” She clapped her hands to emphasize her point. “Can we continue this conversation after we’ve found him?”
Julieta nodded her acquiescence, but her lips pressed together in a thin line. “We’ll talk about this later, Luisa,” she said, wrapping an arm around her waist. “Let’s go find Antonio.”
Haphazardly, the Madrigals made their way outside and followed Luisa as she led them through town.
“Okay, last I saw him was by señor Martinez’s house, but he was heading towards the runaway donkeys, which were by the church,” Luisa narrated to herself, turning decisively to the right.
“It makes a lot more sense for Antonio to deal with them, seeing as he can just talk to them,” Mirabel commented. “Why did anyone even think it was a good idea to make you haul them around on your back when Antonio could just convince them to go home?”
“Because they are tontos who don’t think, just like they can’t fix that stupid gate once and for all so the donkeys stop getting out in the first place,” Pepa muttered under her breath darkly, nostrils flaring as she continued marching under her heavy cloud.
“Ay, Pepa, don’t speak like that,” Alma scolded halfheartedly. “We should be kind to our neighbors.”
“They can start by being kind and not sending my children on fool’s errands. Then I’ll reconsider striking their yards with a lightning bolt. Idiotas…” Pepa kept up a steady stream of curses and insults under her breath, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
“She has a point, mamá.” Julieta placed her hand on Alma’s shoulder gently. “That gate has been loose for ages and no one has bothered to fix it. Wouldn’t it be much easier to fix it once than to ask us to bring the donkeys back all the time?”
“The town has kind of been taking advantage of the Madrigal gifts now that they’re back,” Agustín pointed out quietly. “Running to the family for help anytime something goes even slightly wrong. I try not to, but even I go to Julieta more often than I should.” He looked down in shame.
“Shh, amor, it’s not your fault you’re so allergic to bees.” Julieta patted his cheek affectionately. “Or that you keep finding them.”
“They’re everywhere!”
“He is right though.” Félix spoke up. He held Pepa protectively in his arms as they walked. “How many times do people ask for Luisa’s help instead of trying to figure out another way? And how often would people beg Bruno for visions rather than just plan their lives? Or ask you to heal the smallest of injuries? I get that paper cuts can be annoying but they’re not so bad to need magical healing, ¿eh?” He raised his hands with a chuckle, trying to lighten the mood.
“I suppose you’re right…” Alma trailed off, frowning.
“And what about Isa, having to conjure up plants all the time?” Mirabel chimed in. “Or Camilo, pulling babysitting duty constantly? Dolores, always having to keep an ear out for news? And poor tía Pepa! Anytime the weather isn’t what people want, she’s expected to make it up. ‘Make it sunny, make it rain, we don’t care how, just make it happen!’” She imitated mockingly. “Is it any wonder she made a hurricane on her wedding day?”
“I’m about to make a hurricane right now if we don’t find Antonio soon,” Pepa threatened. “Luisa, he has to have brought the donkeys back by now. Why don’t we check back there?”
“Good idea, tía,” she responded, but exchanged an uneasy glance with her mother, eyes darting towards the lightning now lining Pepa’s cloud. Clearly the two agreed that it would not be a good idea to bring Pepa within striking distance of the donkeys’ enclosure.
By this point, night had begun to fall. Pepa’s anxiety became even more palpable; wringing her hands and breaking away from the group, walking briskly in front of them. She stopped abruptly, narrowly avoiding another multi-Madrigal collision. “Dolores. Can you try to hear where he is?”
Dolores furrowed her brow. “I can try. It’s noisy tonight though. I’ll need to focus.”
“Please, Lola.” Pepa begged, shaking her shoulder. “I realize we ask too much of you, of each other really, but this is important.”
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it. I just said it’s noisy.” Dolores closed her eyes and screwed up her face, concentrating. “I can make out his voice. It’s coming from that direction.” She pointed.
“By the river?” Alma sounded doubtful. “Why would he go there?” A shadow passed over her face.
Dolores shrugged. “It can be a nice place to go think.”
“You like to go there too?” Isabela asked her curiously.
Dolores nodded. “Wait, ‘too’? You go to the river?”
“I like to look at the plants. Ones I don’t have to create. They’re beautiful.”
“It’s calm and peaceful there,” Julieta said. “Away from the hustle and bustle of town…”
“No one telling you how to feel...”
“No one telling you what to do…”
“You can just…exist.” Mirabel exhaled.
Alma stared at all of them in turn. “Are you telling me all of you like to go to the river? And you never ran into each other?”
“I’d go when I didn’t hear anyone there,” Dolores explained.
“I preferred to go in the early mornings,” Julieta admitted.
“And I’d go late at night,” Pepa added.
“I’d go when people were too busy to notice I was gone.” Isabela shrugged.
“Me too, except it was easier for me. No one really cared if I was gone.”
A heavy silence hung after Mirabel’s admission.
“Mira…” Julieta brushed the hair out of her face. “You know that’s not true, right? Of course we care. Ay, after Casita fell, I almost died of worry.” She shuddered at the memory.
“I know, mamá.” Mirabel smiled at her reassuringly. “Things were different before though.”
“As much as I love this touching moment, can we go find Antonio now?” Pepa cut in, a frantic edge to her voice. “It’s dark, and he’s all by himself.” She started walking again, and the rest followed suit.
“Maybe not.” Dolores tilted her head towards the river. “Someone is with him. I hear him talking with Antonio.”
“Ay, Dios…” Pepa ground her teeth. “Mi pobrecito Antonio, out there all alone with no one to protect him.”
“From tío Bruno?” Dolores laughed. “That’s who’s with him, you know.”
“Wait.” Everyone did a double take. “He’s not with us?”
“How did we all miss that?” Agustín wondered.
“He wasn’t with us at home either,” Félix observed.
“I guess we’re not used to him being back yet?” Mirabel offered in explanation. “Since none of us noticed he wasn’t here?”
“He also liked to sneak off before he…” Alma cleared her throat. “Sometimes I thought his gift was invisibility, the way he’d just disappear.”
Pepa pressed on, undeterred. “Come on, guys. We’re almost there.”
“You heard the lady!” Félix waved his hand as he bounded over the hill and joined Pepa in running down to the riverbank.
Antonio was indeed there, with some very strange company. Bruno sat on the ground, cross-legged, and an assortment of creatures surrounded them. Half a dozen rats danced on what appeared to be a makeshift stage. A couple capybaras were chilling in the water. And, as always, Antonio’s jaguar, Parce, lounged lazily nearby.
“Antonio!” Pepa exclaimed, nearly tackling the child as she enveloped him in her arms.
“Mamá! What are you doing here?” Antonio asked curiously.
“Ay Toñito, we’ve been looking for you for so long! You missed dinner, and it’s dark out now.” She peppered his face with kisses aggressively, pulling away suddenly. “What were you thinking?”
“I didn’t realize it had gotten so late,” Antonio defended, wiping his face off with his arm. “Tío Bruno and I came down here after I finished helping Luisa with the donkeys- which took like half an hour. Those donkeys sure are stubborn!” He shook his head in disbelief. “Anyway, I ran into tío Bruno who was coming down here and wanted me to join him.”
Pepa blinked slowly, eyes drifting from one to the other, trying to absorb all this information. “And the animals?” She asked weakly.
“They just follow me around wherever I go,” Antonio stated matter-of-factly. “Check it out, tío Bruno wrote a new play, and we’ve been rehearsing it together!”
“We?” Félix asked, quirking an eyebrow.
“Me and the animals, of course. Well, I’m mostly helping tío Bruno direct, but I think the rats have a good grasp on their parts now.”
The older Madrigals stifled a laugh at his precociousness.
“That’s great, Antonio!” Mirabel smiled at him encouragingly.
“Do you guys want to see?” He looked up at them expectantly. Bruno swiveled around to join him as the rats continued tap dancing across the stage.
“We-“ Everyone looked around, unsure how to respond. Luckily, they were spared the trouble.
Camilo’s stomach gurgled loudly. “Antonio, hermanito, you aren’t the only one who missed dinner. We kind of all missed dinner looking for you.”
“Milo!” Pepa looked at him reproachfully.
“What? It’s true! I’m not supposed to say things that are true? Obviously we were gonna look for you if you’re missing, but we did all miss dinner.”
“He is right, tía.” Luisa spoke up, almost bashfully. “It’s way past dinnertime.”
“Maybe we should all head back and eat,” Julieta suggested. “Then you can show us the play once all our tummies are full.”
“Okay…” Antonio started walking reluctantly. “Come on, Parce.” He waved the jaguar over.
“Oh, he is not coming back with us,” Pepa proclaimed. “Absolutely not.”
“But mamááá, he doesn’t want to be away from me. He’s like my pet.”
“Some people have dogs. You have a jaguar.” Pepa shook her head, rubbing circles over her temples. “Fine,” she relented finally. “But he is not sitting with us at the table.”
“Of course not,” Antonio agreed.
Pepa blinked, not expecting this to be so easy. “Good,” she said firmly.
“He’s too big to fit anyway,” Antonio reasoned. “Now the capybaras…”
“No animals at the table!”
“Not even the toucan?”
“Antonio!”
Week 2 Part 2: Lucía's Relationships Continued
Tumblr media
Alejandro
Alejandro Moreno was Lucía’s late husband.  He was a few years older than her and several inches taller.  He had black hair and hazel eyes and though he always considered himself of ‘very average’ appearance, his romantic nature and artistic spirit made him a popular target for flirtations in the village.  Several of Lucía’s former classmates were a bit jealous when they began to court.
He adored Lucía and often got them into trouble, sneaking her away into the jungle to show her a new waterfall he’d found or some viewpoint that inspired him.  He was passionate and headstrong and sometimes let his passions carry him away – especially in the cases of Lucía, his artwork, and defending the town’s scapegoat.
Alejandro, being just a few years older than Lucía, knew Bruno a bit better than she did – or at least remembered the boy he was before he became an anxious, moody teenager.  He always had a soft spot for the seer and had the same mindset that Lucía’s father did – that Bruno had a hard job and didn’t deserve the ire he increasingly got for his visions.  He apprenticed under an elderly artist of the Encanto when he was a teen and went on to paint several murales depicting the Madrigals, and always treated Bruno with the same respect and attention that he treated the rest of the family.  This, of course, made Bruno nervous because it was unexpected – but it did cause him to stand out in Bruno’s memory, even if he didn't trust at the time that Alejandro was being genuine.
Alejandro became a bit obsessed with Bruno’s story, especially after his disappearance, and was the one who insisted on keeping Bruno in the center of the murales as years passed, because – as he joked with his wife – “if we cannot talk about him, at least we can see him, eh?”
Alejandro and Lucía tried for years to start a family but it never happened until their mid-30s, when Josefina was born. By then, both Alejandro’s parents and Lucía’s mother had passed away.  Alejandro and Lucía were thrilled with Josefina, their ‘little miracle’, and doted on her. Alejandro was a loving husband to Lucía and father to Josefina, but he did allow his obsession with his art to distract him from them from time to time.
It was his insistence that he needed to wander the forested mountains on the edges of the Encanto to find new materials for his paints that led to his untimely death – a landslide leading to the tragic accident that took him from his wife and daughter.
Before Alejandro’s death, Lucía’s relationship with the Madrigals was one of polite and friendly respect. Lucía was born too late to be friends with the triplets and too early to be friends with the following generation.  Their social circles did not overlap much and they did not have great need for any of the Madrigal’s services, aside from the occasional healing food from Julieta or the request for Luisa to move their printer so they could clean beneath it or to help rearrange their bookshelves. They attended the same church and the same village-wide parties and were on good terms but not close.
For various reasons, the Madrigals blamed themselves for not being able to save Alejandro, and Lucía was so deep in grief that by the time her family pulled her through it enough that she began living again, she forgot to tell them that it wasn’t their fault.  She couldn’t bring herself to thank them, even though she knew she should.  But she was never angry at them.  She continued to treat them all with polite respect and welcomed Antonio to story time. The Madrigals never thought she blamed them (or assumed she was too gracious and classy to confront them about it if she did), but in classic Madrigal fashion, lack of communication lead to a burden that no one ever needed to carry in the first place.
Tumblr media
Josefina
 “You have my persimmons to court.”
Josefina Carmen Moreno is Lucía’s only child, her pride and joy, her dear heart, her beloved daughter, her corazón…and her constant source of exasperation and worry.
Josefina looks very much like her mother in her face and body type, but her eyes are hazel and her hair is wavy and black like her father’s. Her hair is always coming out of her braids. She’s a small child with a lot of energy, and is the extrovert to her mother’s introvert.
Josefina was almost three years old when she lost her father and doesn’t remember a whole lot about him now that she’s a big six year old, but she loves seeing the evidence of him everywhere around her – in the murales of the Madrigal family, in the books he illustrated in her abuelo’s shop, and in the murales he painted in her room. Josefina is an only child with a big heart and the enthusiasm of three kids.  She loves hearing about her father, looking through his art, and listening to her mother’s stories.  In school, she loves reading stories and making things and she hates math.  She’s always wanting to play or be with people – whether it’s her Tía Sofia’s big family (that she is slightly jealous of)  that lives on the other side of town, or her friends Juancho, Alejandra, Cecilia, Antonio, Manuel, and Juan -  she just loves being around people and being in the spotlight.  (As long as it’s positive attention.  If it’s negative she gets defensive and upset.)  She has big dreams and her biggest one is to one day own a bicycle.
Lucía’s biggest goal in life is to raise Josefina well – to have her grow up knowing she is loved, fully and completely, and that she is capable of whatever good thing she sets her mind to.  Even though Lucía is usually too busy or too worried to see it, Josefina already knows both of those things and is completely confident in her place and her abilities.
…sometimes a little too confident…
When the Madrigals stay with Lucía and her family after Casita falls, Josefina enthusiastically embraces her role as hostess; when Bruno sneaks his rats into the house, she declares him to be just like Cenicienta (Cinderella) and immediately takes a liking to him.  She’s stubborn and spirited and quickly becomes one of Bruno’s biggest fans and biggest defenders, and when her mama and Bruno finally fall in love, she readily gives them her approval.
Encanto prompt: the blue sisters giving Pepa a hard time by trying to get her to pick who her favorite sobrina is :)
Tumblr media
"You can tell us, Tia," Mirabel said. Her smile was sweet as sugar, but Pepa recognised that maniacally competitive look in her eyes. In fact, Luisa and Isabela had the same sweet smiles and competitive stares. Luisa's eyebrow was beginning the twitch when Pepa didn't immediately answer.
"I don't have favourites," Pepa dismissed, rolling her eyes.
"Except Camilo is totally your favourite kid," Mirabel said, smirking.
"Oy! None of that. Go bother your Tio Bruno."
"We already did," Luisa admitted sheepishly. "He wouldn't answer either."
"Dolores is hiding him in her room," Isabela huffed.
Sí, because Dolores is his favourite and he's hers, Pepa thought, resisting the urge to laugh.
"So...Who's your favourite niece?" Mirabel asked again in her most wheedling tones.
"Mira, amor, I don't have favourites!" Pepa cried. "I love you three equally. You're all wonderful, unique, brave young women and I couldn't be prouder."
Finally, her nieces softened. The competitive gleams in their eyes faded away.
They finally left her alone, trailing after Mirabel for promised embroidery lessons. Luisa had such a shy, sweetly pleased smile on her face.
Isabela lingered in the doorway. Her gaze darted after her sisters and, when she saw they hadn't noticed her hanging back, she turned back to Pepa. She pointed to herself, eyebrows raised. A silent Me? hung in the air.
Snickering, Pepa nodded. Isabela punched the air in triumph and ran after her sisters.
Oh, sue her. So Pepa had a soft-spot for Isabela; her first sobrina and the one who always followed after her like a second shadow as a child, earnestly asking for dancing lessons.
Pepa was only human after all.
Twin Flame- Daniel Ricciardo
First imagine from my 1k follower prompt list! Once again thank you all so much for everything! I adore you all so much! I hope you enjoy this one as much as I loved writing it! I haven't wrote any pure angst like this in a while so make sure you grab your tissues!! Please let me know if you'd like a part 2! Love you all!
(I did post this yesterday but accidentally deleted it opps....)
Prompt: "Were no good for each other..." "Why not?"
Tumblr media
Summary- Being landos twin sister comes with some perks... one being your secret romance with his teammate Daniel Ricciardo! However, after his management decides to set him up in a fake relationship... leaving you to be the one with a broken heart!
It was never your intention for things to get this out of hand... what started with flirtatious banter between you and your twin’s teammate turned into a whole hidden romance! You both never wanted to hide it from Lando, you knew what you both were doing was wrong on so many levels... but every time you and Daniel went to tell him your plan would crumble down like a house made of cards... Lando wasn’t completely oblivious to your and Daniels ‘friendly’ relationship! Anyone could see from a mile away that you both had some sort of thing for each other... but it was just thought off as a simple friendly gesture between you both... But no one saw the secret greetings, the way your hands get lost between his soft brown curls as his lips capture yours in a moment of complete silence.... where you both felt at peace without the pressure of wandering eyes revealing your secrets... but with any relationship comes complications, and yours was about to come much worse than you ever expected!
“You excited...!” Lando smiled, placing the VIP lanyard around your neck “Your first Australian grand Prix!!” He adored having you around the paddock with him... something about his twin sister’s presence made him work even harder to make you proud! “you’re saying that like I’m the one who’s going to be driving that pile of metal 200 miles round tight corners!” You giggled, still in shock that he would even choose a career that dangerous. “Oh, stop it...” He shoved your shoulder playfully “You of been in F1 if you wanted to... instead you decided to cry the second dad put you in the bloody bumper car!”
Just as you were about to counterattack his playful remark a familiar and very loud voice stopped you... “Oh look who it is my favorite siblings....” Daniel sang, fist-bumping Lando as he gave you a small smirk... knowing full well that he had already greeted you to his home country last night! “What are you two debating about now... who loves me more?”
“As if...” Lando scoffed “We were just saying that-“ “Oh wait I think Zac just waved you over...” Daniel interrupted, pointing over to a direction where a huge cluster of McLaren crew members was. Letting Lando turn his body around for enough time for him to give a quick peck on your cheek, leaving your cheeks burning pink as your brother turned back around confused... “Huh? He’s not even over their mate!”
“Oh sorry...” Danny laughed, shrugging “My bad...” A small smile graced your lips as you looked at the big goof next to you, who was willing to do anything he could to give you the attention you desired. “Anyway, bro... I think we must go for the press!” Lando sighed, giving you a quick hug “You’ll be okay over there while I’m gone won’t you... I think Luisa will be round soon so you won’t be alone for long... we shouldn’t belong anyway unless- “
“Lando...” You sighed, giving him a small smile ruffling his hair much to his dismay “I’ll be fine... I’m not a child!” “But you’re my twin sister, and I must stress about you...!” “And as your teammate, I must tell you to hurry the hell up before you get fined!” Daniel groaned, dragging Lando away from you after another hug...
“I’ll see you later...” Daniel mouthed over his shoulder at you, giving you one of his signature smiles which you happily returned... You wished that in some parallel universe things could have been different for the two of you, both of you being able to live your lives without the fear of hiding it away... but it wasn’t like that & it would never be... not with Daniel’s management in the way! The truth was Daniel’s manager was aware of your relationship, him being one of the main reasons it was still completely locked away! According to him, if your relationship came in the open it would project a negative light on Daniels’s intentions and could even cost him the chance of any success at McLaren! However, they weren’t totally opposed to Daniel being in a relationship... queue where Heidi comes in...
Heidi was any man’s dream! She is pretty, kind, and has an F1 background, everybody in the paddock adores her! She had everything that his management team thought he needed... so for the sake of the cameras and the thrill of Daniel finally meeting the ‘love of his life’ a PR stunt was set up to make Daniel’s name mainstream... apparently fake dating a former F1 stars daughter was more likely to have a positive impact on his career than having a real relationship with his teammate’s twin sister! So, for the sake of his career & like the fool you were you let it happen...
Hours passed after the press conference, spending most of your time with your family and friends as you enjoyed the bright heat of the Australian weather! It wasn’t every day that you got to spend the week in such a beautiful country, watching your brother dominate the track alongside all your loved ones!...
“Why are you keep smiling at your phone?” Luisa teased, obviously catching on the fact you couldn’t pry your eyes away from your screen “You are hiding something from us...” Lando butted in, raising his eyebrow up at you as you shook your head with a laugh “No... I’m not... but I am feeling a bit thirsty tho...anyone wants anything!” Luisa being the only one who wanted one herself, came with you...
Just as you were about to enter the McLaren drinks station, the sound of moaning caught both of your attention... “Who the hell is that?!?” Luisa laughed, giving you a confused look... however the more your ears listened to it the more the sounds became more familiar to you... “Maybe It’s one of the engineers....” You tried to play off your deepest thoughts “I heard Paul had his girlfriend around...”
“Fuck Danny...” Despite the loud noises of the crowd nearby, your ears picked up on the name... your heartbeat so loud you were afraid it was going to come out your chest.... ‘It can’t be’ you thought ‘he wouldn’t’ Trying to block what you had just heard out of your mind, you retrieved the drinks with Luisa, hoping deep down that there was some other visitor called Danny and it wasn’t your Daniel that was making that girl moan... but that hope washed away as you spotted a flushed Daniel and messy looking Heidi appear from where the moaning could be heard... his exposed neck showing off the same shade of lipstick she was wearing as dark purple marks scattered on his collarbone... her hair was ruffled and tangled together, the same yours was last night! Your drink dropped out of your hand as your eyes instantly locked with his, guilt and panic immediately obvious in his hazel eyes!
“(y/n)? You okay...?” Luisa asked concern in her voice as your teary gaze went to her instead “What’s wrong...?” Not being able to speak you nodded your head, looking down at the now smashed glass “Lets go get you another one yeah?”
Noticing Daniel running up to you, you quickly declined “Oh no, it’s okay! I think I’m going to go back to the hotel... I’m not feeling to good!” “Should I tell Lando?” “No!” You said a little to loudly, “I’m sorry, please don’t say anything just say I’m tired & needed a rest it’s been a long day”
“Okay are you sure you don’t want me to com- “
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Lu!” You smiled tearily giving her a quick hug before turning on your heel, speed walking away as the tears now streamed freely down your cheeks.... how could you be so stupid...! How could you think that anything he could just be in a fake relationship with someone that beautiful!
As soon as you made it to your hotel, you slammed the door shut, backsliding against the door as your sobs grew louder... the look on his face after he was caught flashed in your eyes everytime you closed your eyes... there was no escaping it!
A knock interrupted your thought as you cried harder... there was only one person it could be!
“baby... please open the door....” Daniel’s voice cracked through the door, causing your whole body to shake “please we have to talk about this...”
“Just go away...” You cried placing your hand on your knees, wishing the whole floor could cave in!
“(y/n) please... It’s not what it looked like... I love you!”
His words hit you like a bullet as anger flooded you inside, springing up off the floor you pulled the door open with fire in your eyes “Not what it looked like?” You spat, not even caring to hide the obvious tears in your eyes “I am not stupid Daniel! I wasn’t born yesterday to know that you just shagged your fake girlfriend in nearing distance to the girl who clearly loves you!”
Daniel flinched at your words as he cautiously followed you into the room where you sunk onto the bed, hands going back to your face as you tried your best to make a piece of what has actually happened...
“You know what maybe I am stupid...” You whispered, looking up at him again to find him looking down at you confused “You know to actually think you loved me...”
“I do love-“
“No you don’t Daniel!” You groaned, rubbing your eyes “Stop fucking lying to me!!!! If you loved me you wouldn’t of done that to me... not with her!!”
“It just happened... it doesn’t mean anything!”
“Just like we just happened then...” You spat back, nothing but the look of disgust in your eyes “Just like I mean nothing to you!” “You mean the world to me-“
“Oh do I.... Is that you spend all your time with her & not the girl you ‘love’! Is that why you never fought to get your manager to let us reveal our relationship...! What? Was that act I just caught you and her in just for PR was it... was it to create thrill for your career?”
“What the fuck are you on about?!?” Daniel yelled, clearly getting irritated with you “I did everything I could to get us to come out about our relationship... you know she means nothing compared to you!! I must hang around with her just like you must be near Lando!!”
“HE IS MY FUCKING TWIN!!” you screamed
“AND I’M YOUR TWIN FLAME!!!”
“Not anymore....” Your voice cracked as you turned around facing the window... “were not good for eachother Daniel...?”
“Why not?...” His voice sounded more deflated than normal... like something in him popped and all the hope left him “Were amazing for each other (y/n)...”
“Because relationships that start in lies... only end in them...”
“Come on... (y/n) don’t give up on us that easy we can work through this...” “You can’t fix something that is unfixable...”
His heart broke almost as much as yours as he noticed the redness in your eyes, the look of a person who had just had their whole world ruined by his stupid behavior... “I think you should go, Daniel...”
“No please... let’s sort this now!” He begged, getting closer to you as he reached for your arm...Flinching you pulled it away “LEAVE NOW!”
“You heard her....” A voice interrupted... Daniel turned around to see a furious looking Lando stood against the door frame... Luisa running past him to wrap her arms tightly around your shaking broken body “Leave!...Now!”
Giving you one last apologetic look, he left not saying another word, body shuddering as the wooden door of your hotel slammed against him as soon as he stepped out... and he knew in that moment he had truly lost you for good!
“oh (y/n)...” Luisa sighed as she brushed your hair out your eyes, allowing you to lean your head on her shoulder...
Grabbing one of the vanity chairs, Lando pulled it towards the bed where you both sat... a mixture of concern and disappointment in his eyes as he looked forward to you...
“Your going to explain every fucking thing now... & don’t miss anything out!”
Have you watched "Encanto" from Disney? If so, do you like it?
Yup i have seen it! And I do like it, tho unfortunately the titular song was soured a bit for me by it being overplayed.
Luisa is my favourite character. Love me a buff girl with a soft side
I didn't really care for Isabella, even after she was redeemed. I think what I wanted from her was a verbal apology and I'm upset that we didn't get that from her. I know there's something to be said about SHOWING you're sorry rather than SAYING you're sorry but I feel like they go hand in hand. Personally, I don't want one without the other. Love her design tho, especially at the end of the movie.
I know there's a bit of a curse on Disney movies right now where there's no actual villain which is a HUGE bummer since I love me a good villain (Bowser and White Diamond my beloved) but for Encanto specifically I think it works really well.
